This month Adam will release his new song (and maybe video) “Superpower” on the 4th and then the 6-song “Side A” of “Velvet” on the 27th. The following day, Queen + Adam headline the Global Citizen Festival and that would be a great opportunity to introduce the world audience to the new single!

    There is a boy band on The Today show now. “Why Don’t We” is their name. They’ve had millions and millions of streams. They release one song a month. My hasn’t the music business changed.

    eta: one of the boys, Daniel Seavey, was on season 14 of American Idol & came in 9th place.

    I get that Adam doesn’t care about radio anymore, but I would like to be able to listen to Adam’s music with my grandchildren around, so I am not a fan of the profanity either. Surely there are other words to use. I don’t think profane words give the song more impact.

    I also don’t like movies that use F*** as every other word. To me it just shows a lack of intelligence on the part of the writers. Come on people use your vocabulary.

    Back when Adam was still with Warner Brothers, I was following the radio biz a lot, the charts, etc. First, US radio doesn’t just “pick up” songs. Most stations are part of huge conglomerates like iHeart radio. They have set playlists fixed by program directors, in conjunction with the artists’ major labels. The “suits” as Adam calls them decide which tracks of which artists they will push for ADDS to the playlists. I read it costs $500,000 or more per song to get good play on a large number of stations, i.e. every half hour, every 15 mins, etc. That’s the dirty biz part Adam hates, per his interviews.
    So basically what makes a “hit” is frequent play of any “tune” selected and paid for by the labels and program directors and foisted on the general public. $$$$$$
    We know he always thought each album had several singles, but the suits obviously didn’t.
    So he’s now with an Indie label, and has repeatedly posted sales and streaming info – hint, hint.
    Maybe he’ll do clean versions of the songs as needed, we don’t know, but there will be cd’s to play in cars, or new cars have streaming features too. But I’m pretty sure he’s had enough of US radio, as have I. I NEVER listen anymore to the crap they have, even 5 mins is too much to bear to even hear one Adam song. I have my cd’s for that. IMHO of course.

    He also said in a live Instagram chat he doesn’t care about hits, charts or awards, just wants to make his music and hopes fans like it.
    I’m sure he’d like them, but he said they’re not his goal.

    That was a wrong choice of words when I said radio would “pick up” his new single. Streaming is the number one way music is listened to these days. Billboard had a great article a while back on how radio chooses the music they play and it’s complicated. Wish I could find the link.

    Agreed, luval – was just explaining in case some might not remember. Adam had so much disappointment with the labels and US radio.
    I remember the old days, when they played a mix of all kinds of music, and you could request anything. Now it all sounds the same. (Crap)
