It’s time for our September chat thread. Hopefully this will be the final relatively quiet month before Adam’s new single is released. As always, please keep the posting guidelines in mind, and welcome any newcomers. Enjoy!

luval, you neeeed a fox tail so you can wiggle it from side to side! Or you could just hang it with your Adam goodies, and when you look at it you can remember Adam wiggling his! Wink

Or use it for a duster! Smile

Re Adele and the idea of her success refocusing attention on the voice – ITA.
I am so weary of autotune and interchangeable performers…especially for the female singers, sometimes it is hard to tell who is performing a new song on the radio. Rolls Eyes Britney sounds like Katy Perry sounds like…and all of them are uniformly breathy and overproduced. ugh.
Maybe we are hitting a wall on that. Hope so. I’d love to hear some genuine vocal talent that isn’t buried under layers of sameness.

Adele doesn’t perform, she just SINGS and her voice isn’t for everyone, so there’s not much else to like if you don’t like the voice. I bought the album (because Adam told us to lol) and some of it I love but I can’t listen to the whole thing through, some of it is very unappealing to me.
    (Didn’t know she smoked. WTF?)

jlurk, thanks for Burning Man posts! am I correct in thinking that this was the 25th burning man? Maybe time to retire the concept, a nice round anniversary, before it becomes something it was never meant to be.

I’ll have limited internet access for the next couple of days, so here are the next two recaps.

9/4/10 – the Glam Nation Tour plays at the On The Waterfront festival in Rockford IL. I know that there were 1000 reserved tickets which sold out, but don’t know how many people were on the general admission lawn (I think access to that was included in the festival ticket). I believe it was quite a large number.

    http://www.adamlambertlive.org/2011/gnt-rockford-il-090410

9/5/10 – the final GNT date in the Midwest, at the sold out Civic Center Theater in Peoria:

    http://www.adamlambertlive.org/2011/gnt-peoria-il-090510

9/6/10 was an off day for the tour, so recaps will resume with Dallas on 9/7. Getting close to the end of the main North American tour now – that ended in Pullayup on 9/21/10. Hope I can find videos for the international dates, but I’m afraid there will be some gaps in those recaps.

Correct! ! Here is history from Burning Man website:

After Adams stirring vocals and sense of humor at the fireworks on the bridge we headed to Rockford for concert number two. It was also out doors but thank god I had a seat. Not too bad being 8 rows from the stage, but I was not with my traveling buddies and was stuck with very boring
Adam fans near me. I really hadn’t met any boring fans before but there are some. I met some fun and crazy ones on my trips to the restroom and consessions. The best part of Rockford aside from seeing and hearing Adam again was meeting Mils. I’m sure she’ll have some fun things to report as she sat with the fun bunch and had her first M&G. In the hotel later we convinced her to continue on with us to Peoria. a trip I’m sure neither of us will forget. Peoria was my favorite Adam show. I’d love to do it all over again.

  8. Kradamour says:

Gotta ask, jlurk…were you ever a burner?

  9. luval says:

I didn’t get a fox tail. Still have one more day to decide. Kinda wish I did, though. Smile

So Adam and the troupe were in Rockford, Illinois. All I have in my notes was that it was very very cold, he did not come out to the buses after the show and did not dance with Brooke. There was discussion about Adam being tired, MW voice cracking but most of it turned out not to be true. JoJosie and others were there. I’m sure they can verify.

  10. Kradamour says:

luval, you need a fox tail. Smile

Luval, you might not need one but I am sure Adam Jr. would appreciate an addition to his wardrobe! Smile

  13. luval says:

Damn!…With all this pressure on me now I have to get a fox tail!

  14. ultimathule says:

Spending Sunday downloading and listening to Steve Winwood – love his voice almost as much as Adam’s.

Guess I must be tired. I first read this as hanging the fox tail with Adam’s goodies and then Adam wiggling his. It took a minute of thinking about this (and smiling) and then I realized I MUST have read this wrong.

  16. Ellessay says:

    (Didn’t know she smoked. WTF?)

I agree Kradamour. I was late buying the Album…actually bought it after I heard Haley sing Rolling in the Deep this year. I actually think I prefer Haley’s version better.

I bought Adele’s album on Adam’s recommendation but I’m also having trouble listening to the whole thing.

  17. AL says:

Funny, since she’s become so hugely popular, I’ve tried to like Adele’s voice, but she just doesn’t do it for me. She’s got a lot of power in her voice, but there is something about her tone that grates on my nerves a little. And her songs just leave me a little flat. Feels like heresy to say it, but I just can’t quite warm up to her.

cwm, I guess I am a heretic too then. I like Rollin’ In the Deep well enough but not enough to buy her album even if recommended by Adam. I enjoy the more quirky (using this term lovingly) female singers like Tori Amos, KT Tunstall, Kate Bush and Canadians K.D.Lang and Jane Siberry. I like music that I can connect to emotionally – whether the emotion makes me cry, contemplative or dance like no one is watching.

Here’s Jane and K.D. singing “Calling All Angels”
    http://youtu.be/ev5byDGADKs
and another of my favs of hers…

  18. ultimathule says:

With rare exceptions I prefer male to female voices. Just as I prefer the cello to the violin. Sometimes I wonder why I love Adam’s voice so much since he’s a tenor rather than a baritone. Believe it’s because his voice – simply as sound – is so extraordinarily beautiful.

  19. luval says:

Had a little bitty Adam moment at the fair. I had on a tee shirt with “Adam Lambert” in 1″ black letters on. (homemade). Went to a booth looking at something and the girl that worked there said “oh, Adam Lambert…are you going to a concert of his?” haha..I had to explain Quebec, etc. etc. She said she’s from Canada where everyone loves him and is sad that he’s not as accepted here. Felt that it was because he’s gay and that’s why he didn’t win AI either. She said “we’re more open in Canada”.

Gosh, I just hate hearing this but unfortunately it’s somewhat true. I just hope hope hope his new album will sell a million copies!

eta: I posted a “Memory” on the Ste. Agathe thread. Boy does time fly.

  20. ultimathule says:

Believe Adam still has substantial barriers to overcome – will never forget Chris Richard’s review (WashPost) of the D.C. concert. So incredibly close-minded (he loves rap and constantly praises ugliness such as the Jaz-Z/Kanye Thrones album) – and, paraphrasing – had to put his hands over ears at Adam’s singing. It appears that, for some, the more degenerate the album, the more “authentic” it is. The same attitude is prevalent in the art scene as well. Adam’s AO background and type of music will not make inroads with this type of person because people like Richards want to be seen as relevant with today’s “music.” They don’t have the guts to say the emperor has no clothes.

Adam’s voice, talent, and interpretations of songs are miles beyond the vast majority of other performers’. If Adam’s album is as exceptional as I expect it to be and if it is not reviewed fairly, we will know that the so-called music biz is even less about music than we feared.

  21. HK fan says:

I’ve only really starting seeing anything about Adele this year, have a few of her tracks on my Ipod, love Rolling in the deep and Turning tables. Don’t really know much about her, but was very surprised when I saw her as a guest on the Graham Norton show a couple of months back. Because of her look, (fairly severe hair, black clothes, quite old fashioned looking), I’d expected someone very quiet and demure, but she was so down to earth and really fun to listen to.

Re Adam, where the **** is he??? where did the rumour first start that they might be at Burning man? I’ve heard that they’re cracking down on photos this year, you can only take them with permission or something, but surely at least one grainy, dark photo would have come up by now if he was there. its been 6 days without even the tiniest little tweet. Maybe he’s locked away in a studio putting the finishes touches to his new single which he has decided to release next week as a surprise instead of 8 weeks!!!

  22. turquoisewaters says:

Late to the party (as usual), but I want to put in a word for Adele. I like some of her songs on the album, but get somewhat tired of her voice when I try to listen to the whole album. Then I saw her live in Berkeley a couple of weeks ago and loved, loved, loved her. I read a review criticizing that she “just sings” and I found it so frustrating. Just sings??? She killed every single song and her voice was just gorgeous. Plus she was a total hoot between songs, swearing right and left, telling anecdotes, interacting with the audience. I for one didn’t miss anything. We have plenty of female “stars” that specialize in prancing around in hooker outfits. Let Adele be Adele.

  23. turquoisewaters says:

AL: Thanks for the links. I love to discover new singers and I have frankly never heard of Jane Siberry before. I’ll trade one back. This girl from Paris has a great set of pipes, and her singing is so infectuous: ZAZ – Je veux.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQ9zeDd0mpg

  24. luval says:

Well said, ultimathule. I will keep the name Chris Richards in my notes and check out his review when the album comes out.

In regards to Adele her look is interesting but she just kind of flaps her hands when singing and I find it distracting. But yes, let Adele be Adele. And as I mentioned, I would love to see her in a small club someday.

  25. Kradamour says:

OMG, turquoise, thank you for the vid of ZAZ! I’m off to find more of her! There is something wonderful and almost wistful about her voice, even when she turns up the volume. Love it. Smile

  26. ultimathule says:

Yes, Adele belongs in small clubs – an arena artist she’s not – probably not even the 930 Club in D.C. If she’s relaxed and herself with funny repartee between songs and sets, she’ll do fine. Her VMA performance was distracting, not only because she wasn’t in top form, but, as noted, her hands constantly moving towards her chest as though she had heartburn was distracting. But, then, if she’s making big bucks, all this is irrelevant. (How long has RITD been at the top of the charts?)

  27. Kradamour says:

Zaz’s manager: “Despite the demand, it seems preferable to do her first tour in fifty small places which will render her credible.”
Which seems to be the reasoning behind Adam’s small venues.
And in fact in 2010 she was the most popular of French singers and the most played abroad.

  28. Kradamour says:

luval, thanks for the memory on the Ste Agathe thread! That was a long 85 days…

  29. luval says:
  30. turquoisewaters says:

Kradamour: Haha, I knew you would like her!

  31. turquoisewaters says:

After seeing the video that luval posted, I have to say that there is really value added with Adam’s showmanship. I am glad he dares to put it all out there.

  32. luval says:

There are hundreds of fan videos out there. Maybe it was the song, which I love, but golly Adam is just the whole package!!!

  33. Oksana2000 says:

So Adam disappeared from the face of the earth? Methinks he went to Burning Man. I would swear that I saw a man like him and someone smaller like Sauli on the Webcast.
    Right, yeah… Rolls Eyes
Adam, if you didn’t go to BM, can’t you go out, or do something like that so paps can take picture of you? He? It wouldn’t kill you. (pouting)
I have to admit I went as low as doing GoogleEarth on his home. Nothing.Nada.Zilch. I know, I know it doesn’t show satellite picture of every frikking second, but hey, you never know.
BTW, I bought Adele and Bruno Mars album at the same time. I have to admit to listening to Bruno quite often. Adele’s..not so much.

  34. ultimathule says:

Love that vid, luval – already on my iPod. Speaking of the latter – strange occurrence tonight – synced, as usual, but when checked iPod to see if everything downloaded, there was NOTHING on the iPod – all music – Big Zero – gone – wth? Plugged the iPod back in and it took more than an hour to re-load the iPod (4,000-plus items). All came back, but have no clue as to what happened as did nothing differently. Good reminder to use my external F-Drive more diligently.

And – so funny – GoogleEarth – can fully understand – hopefully a dip in the pool? – fully clothed, of course. Feeding the damn squirrel or whatever it was at the window?
The guys love to eat and drink – they must go out at least once a week. Ordering in?

If I hear Adele’s song one more time on the radio, think I’m following Elvis’s example with his TV.

  35. luval says:

ultimathule…you are funny. I know many videos I and others post have already been seen before. Smile

Here’s another one from 24/7 that you’ve all probably seen.

  37. Kradamour says:

OMG that Weird Al video…too funny! and (sad to say) fanadama managed to hit pretty much every bad photo of Adam…but it’s a hoot and I hope that Adam sees it!

I am glad he dares to put it all out there.

  39. ultimathule says:

luval, just downloaded that “Falling in Love” vid today – saw it on AQD, I think – was actually new to me.

That TMZ vid, though, was so darn funny – Adam in his turquoise shorts on the beach with Taylor trying to rip him off the peep’s back – classic. There was one photo where Taylor, Adam, and the peep were on each other’s back and someone had posted an extremely funny caption (obscene, of course) – wish I could remember it.

Even when he’s in hiding, Adam’s a source of hilarity.

  40. JOJOSIE says:

I’ve heard from both Goatie Garden and Madnessinmotion today as we were all thinking about where we were one year ago. I know you that went to the last concert will be doing the same the end of July next year. I guess I’ll go to the fan site and send a message to Mils as she must be letting real life interfere with her Adam fan duties. I was looking forward to what she had to say. I feel like his mother (more like grandmother) when I start thinking Adam could at least tweet.

  41. jlurksacto says:

How great is the charitywater’s thankyou to glamberts! ! !
And they are still open for business.

  42. ultimathule says:

  43. ultimathule says:

    Well, Adam loves the 70’s.

  44. cwm says:

Love Tommy’s prediction of how we’ll react to Adam’s upcoming album. Didn’t Alisan Porter say something to this effect, too? Time to stock up on the Depends, I guess. Haha

    @Jarya_ Jaï
@TommyJoeRatliff what do you think of Adam’s new album?

    TommyJoeRatliff TommyJoe Ratliff
@Jarya_ ALL I am saying is that you guys will shit yourselves… It’s going to be amazing!!!

  45. cwm says:

I think Adam worked in the studio (per his tweet) for a couple of days early in the week last week, and then he and Sauli headed over to Burning Man for the rest of the week. I don’t think he would go to Burning Man in order to “find himself;” I think he would go because he loves being among other artists of all types and among those who value free expression. And it would give him and Sauli a chance to really break set and do something crazy and inspiring. I think he decided to unplug from Twitter and other media so he could just be an artist for a little while and not a celebrity.

At least that’s my theory and I’m sticking with it. LOL

Looks like the mass exodus from Burning Man is happening now, so I guess we’ll find out soon enough. I predict we’ll get a tweet from Adam by Tuesday. Smile

  46. adamized says:

cwm I agree with your theory. Makes perfect sense. If he can spend a few days being among other creative/free spirits and share his love for BM with Sauli…all the better.

Hi. I’ve got a few minutes here, but I have been thinking a lot about a year ago, and what joy that special weekend brought to my life. As with so many others, real life had kicked me in the *ss big time for the past couple of years ( nearly lost both my parents, illnesses, job losses and changes, etc), so that weekend truly recharged my batteries.

    And.

    I met Adam.

  49. milwlovesadam says:

A year ago today, I sat in Goatie, Madness, and Jo’s room in Rockford, sealing the deal on my Peoria ticket off Stubhub. I couldn’t believe it. I got a ticket for something like 58 bucks. Best 58 bucks I ever spent in my life.

The night before was the Rockford show. And my M&G. I have my recaps on MJ’s. However, I have kept in touch with my ticket buyer, spent Adam’s BDay with her,
( she stayed at my house), she is a sweet gal, we have much in common. I’m hoping to share more Adam fun with her.

The weather was Midwest cool, not cold for us. But probably cold for the troupe. We all wore very light jackets. Adam kept his Strut coat on. We had a silent Soaked. My new friend and I had tears in our eyes afterward. We were in the 6th row If I remember correctly. The encore was Mad World.

The reserved area was very nice. Folding chairs on grass. The GA area was packed. The crowd was the largest the had ever had at On The Waterfront festival. Adam sold it out in 5 minutes, crashed the server. I got this info from the people at the theater when we had to go and see if our tickets were valid. Remember the scare we had?

After the show, we went out to the buses, which because of the configuration of the place, was right next to the stage. We saw Tommy, LP and others hanging out of the bus. No Adam. Until the bus started to pull away. That was when he showed up in the front of the bus, in his One shirt, light blue denim, epaulets on the shoulders, the light from the bus giving him an out of this world glow. I swear, that sight made the crowd gasp, and woo. Not just because it was him, but because of the “glow”. Afterward, people stood around saying ” Wow. Did you see that?”

We all hung around, then walked to Goatie’s car. Got to see the decorations on the car for the first time. So many people were taking pictures. So, we all piled in and went back to our hotel, by some stroke of luck, we were all in the same hotel. Spent waaay too much time in Goatie’s room with everybody. Much fangirling and getting to know each other, until we finally had to just get some sleep.

That was when the plot to kidnap me was hatched. We tried to get my ticket, but at 1 AM, Stubhub wouldn’t wake up the ticket owner to negotiate a price. Had to wait until morning. Called hubby, and told him, I might be kidnapped. He was actually pretty cool about it. Which just added fuel to my fire. I knew all would be OK at home if I went to Peoria.

Loved the Weird Al video and the charity water one too.

Adele, I love some of her songs. When Haley sang RITD on Idol my husband wanted to know who sang the original so I played Adele’s you tube for him. His comment—“Haley does it better”
