It’s time for our September chat thread. Hopefully this will be the final relatively quiet month before Adam’s new single is released. As always, please keep the posting guidelines in mind, and welcome any newcomers. Enjoy!

  1. Ron says:

    Hi!

Adam was in “Wicked”, that played at the Winter Garden theatre in Toronto, for 3 months. The Winter Garden is less than a 10 minute walk in a straight line from my apartment building. It’s on the same street that I live on. I never saw the show. TLKC has an “in” at that theatre and could have gotten us front row seats. But, not only had I never heard of Adam, I didn’t know TLKC at that time, either.

Do wonder if Adam went to any of the gay bars that are also less than a 10 minute walk from my place and from where Adam most definitely would have been staying.

No chance of my bumping into him back then when I might have remembered an interesting looking guy with an unusual haircut. If he did go to any of the bars, it would have been, I guess, close to midnight and most nights I’ve usually been in bed for 4 hours by that time. Smile

So near, and yet, so far.

  2. Kradamour says:

    An amazing post, Ron.
So many people here and elsewhere have posted that they “almost” met Adam before he became THE Adam, aka Flave Bone. A number of posters have noted that he was so unpreposessing that they barely noticed him when he was out and about.

It just wasn’t his time yet.

  4. nkd says:

Wow Ron, if you had only known!
If I had known, I would have gone to see him during his run of Brigadoon in Houston. He would have been 23?! So young! Smile

  5. Ron says:

    Hi Kradamour and nkd!

Yes, if I only knew then what I know now! Wink

The Fleur de lis ring that I brought to Kradamour’s attention and bought for myself was delivered a few days ago.

Very nice, very HUGE and very much designed for a lady.

I wear it well, actually. LOL

  6. Kradamour says:

chuckle…I am always happy to hear about peeps wearing fleur de lis, Ron!
I am enjoying the f-de-l earrings I bought from PennyRoyal. I only wish (surprisingly) that they were just a bit larger. Maybe being an Adam fan is adjusting my perception of “tasteful” Smile

  7. Kradamour says:

ah, nekkid, Brigadoon…THAT I would love to have seen. One of my favorite stage plays.
My dream is still that he will one day play Pippin as First Player…I’ve seen Ben Vereen and Tommy Tune in the role. I think Adam would be in his element in a Fosse musical.

  8. Calgary says:

On Adam executive producing- I assume that means he’s the boss? I had worrisome thought though, thinking about a clip from Lee Cherry (I think) about the Zodiac Show saying how headstrong Adam could be and how hard they had to argue with him to dissuade him from wearing a fiery halo on stage. I just hope there aren’t any “fiery halos” in the new album!

  9. nkd says:

A “fiery halo” could be cool though. It would have been quite impressive in CTF, but could have also been a disaster!
Let’s hope he has time to think and rethink those kinds of impulses! Saying that, I do love impulsive Adam!!! Wink

  10. Kradamour says:

Y’know, Calgary, I would have had the same thoughts a year or so ago. But I think that Adam learned a very powerful lesson from the AMAs, and that it was good for him to learn at the very beginning. He has also sounded rueful over the probably impulsive choice of the FYE cover art, even though he would never admit that it was probably not the wisest choice.
Adam has visibly matured since Idol, intellectually and artistically, and there is a mile of maturity between the Adam of the Zodiac Show and the Adam of Ste Agathe. I share nekkid‘s love for Adam’s impulsive side, and I hope that he never completely loses it, but I think that he has learned that there is a time and place for everything, and sometimes taking a deep breath and thinking twice is a good thing.

  11. Ron says:

    Hi Calgary!

I share your concern! Personally, I don’t have 100% confidence in Adam’s choices. Cher’s song “Believe” during Hollywood week?! “Satisfaction” (one of my least favorite songs of all time!) and … well … that show that should always remain nameless.

That was then and this is now and he’s grown and matured but, for me, he has a “spotty” track record. Like everyone else, I can only hope that his instincts about this CD are “spot on” and that it’s going to be a huge success.

It concerns me that, after the listening party, Papa Lambert’s tweet read, “I liked it”. Was he refering to being together that evening or what he heard Adam sing that evening from the CD?

Nice that he liked it but he didn’t love it? Maybe I misinterpreted that exchange.

  12. nkd says:

I’m listening to Scarlett Cherry’s Labor of Love. I love it. So different than what I usually listen to, but it’s bringing me to tears, it’s so beautiful. Her voice is amazing. Smile

  13. nkd says:

Ron, here’s Eber’s tweet. I think he’s talking about the get together when he says he enjoyed it.

    milestougeaux Miles Tougeaux
@adamlambert Enjoyed it! Wish it could have been longer. Keep up the good work. Trust (and defend) your gut!
    12 Sep

  14. nkd says:

Of course Eber was excited to see Herbie Hancock a day or so ago, so I’m not sure about his take on current music! Wink

  15. Ron says:

    Dearest nkd,

I’m beginning to think that your tear ducts are very close to your bladder. LOL

    Wink

  16. nkd says:

HUH? I’m emotional! I’m waiting on my first grandbaby! Smile

  17. ultimathule says:

Don’t know if you read my posts yesterday, Ron, but I share some of the same concerns that you do – and that it was the “gut” comment that puzzled me. IMO that was a danger signal that there were diverse opinions as to what to put on the album. Could obviously be wrong, of course, but that’s how I read it.
And couldn’t agree more on the incredible transformation from “Mama” to “OoL.” Been fascinating to watch – perhaps in the distant future Adam will speak to this.

HUH? I’m emotional! I’m waiting on my first grandbaby!

That’s RIGHT!! Please forgive me … I forgot. It’s any day now, isn’t it?

You’re the new “Grandmother” because in no way shape or form do you look to be anywhere near being a grandmother. But, I have to know that you’re very happy to be “Nana”. Let us know when it’s official.

  19. nkd says:

It’s any day now, isn’t it?

Yes it is Ron! She was due Friday. Taking after me already! Wink Her mom is very punctual.

  20. Ron says:

    Hi ultimathule!

Yes, for me it was the “gut” comment as well.

Interesting that I thought I knew that Eber tweeted “I liked it”. And that opened the door to all kinds of interpretation. Thanks for correcting me, nkd! But, instead, he “enjoyed it” which I’m sure he meant being together that evening.

  21. Calgary says:

NKD – I just put Labour of Love on my iPod and every time one of Scarlett’s songs pops up on shuffle,it stops me for a minute as I think “hey, who’s the wonderful voice and the great song?” I may have to invest in a few more copies for friends. I hope the album has done well.

  22. nkd says:

I’ve had the Labor of Love CD for months and just opened it. Why? I love it. Her voice is beautiful.
If anyone hasn’t listened to the snippets:

A little different vibe than my offerings last night! Wink Grin

  23. mieps says:

Ron! Some high note from Satisfaction was the first nanosecond I heard of Adam. And look where that got me Wink
It will always have a special place in my heart. I actually also liked Believe. Of course I didn’t hear that until months after… I shall write my discovery story in the appropriate thread one of these days.

  24. Kradamour says:

I didn’t know Adam had sung Believe! i never saw him on Idol except for part of Mad World and the finale so I had to reconstruct Season 8 from youtubes and somehow I missed that one – and apparently no one talks about it or I would have caught it before. Hmmm…was it the execution or the cheesiness of the song that kept it off the radar? Guess I’ll go and find out!

ETA It wasn’t the whole song, just a part, and he was still wearing his number. I guess I don’t really understand the Idol process, not sure about how one moves along in the competition. Never mind, it doesn’t matter now but I would have liked to hear it all. Love that cheesy song! Smile

  25. luval says:

Good morning Kradamour. If you can’t find it (I’m sure you will) I’ll help you out. It’s too short, though!

I have a dvd with Idol 8 (only Adam) which is terrific! If I can figure out how to copy it I’ll send you one.

  26. Kradamour says:

I shall write my discovery story in the appropriate thread one of these days.

Don’t know where you are, mieps, but here it is a quiet gray Sunday. Perfect day to write a story! Smile And to read one!

  27. Kradamour says:

    Good morning back, luval!
You’ve got amazing things in that box of yours… Smile I really enjoyed our “show and tell” session at your house on the way to Ste Agathe!

  28. luval says:

I just wrote on the Glamberts thread. I noticed there are no page numbers there. Maybe we’re on page one?

  29. Kradamour says:

It’s only 31 posts, luval. I think that is still only one page.

  30. luval says:

thanks kradamour…I thought that it went by the length of the page, not the number of posts.

Am watching SNL taped from last night. Think I’ll drop them a line. Smile

kradamour…forgot to show you guys my scrapbook. Maybe on the next tour!!!

  31. Kradamour says:

“Am watching SNL taped from last night. Think I’ll drop them a line. Smile

    visualize, chérie! Smile

  32. luval says:

Just watched it, krad…there was one segment called “Who’s On Top”…pretend game show where they would name two celebrities, and say “if they were gay” who would be on top.

Not sure what Adam would think. It could be funny, but not to everyone. But I guess SNL is equally disrespectful to EVERYONE. If I can find it on youtube later I might post it.

  33. Kradamour says:

Dunno, luval, sounds like typical tasteless SNL humor that is very funny to some and offensive (or just not funny) to others. I haven’t watched SNL since law school – a very long time ago! but sometimes it was breathtakingly wonderful and other times just as breathtakingly awful.

  34. nkd says:

Kradamour…here’s Adam singing Believe, if you haven’t seen it.

  35. Ron says:

    Hello mieps!!

    mieps says:

Ron! Some high note from Satisfaction was the first nanosecond I heard of Adam. And look where that got me
It will always have a special place in my heart.

I apologize. I certainly didn’t mean to throw cold water on the song that first brought Adam to your attention! I more than understand how “Satisfaction” will always hold a special place in your heart. When that song was released, (I guess I was about 2) Wink I remember I would turn the volume down on my radio to inaudible. Just hearing the opening strain of those electric guitars was enough for me. Smile I’m obviously in the vast, vast minority as it’s considered a Hallmark Rock Classic!

As I look back on Adam’s song choices during his time on American Idol, one week I was “Up – Yes!” and the next week I was “Down” – Oh, no!. Smile

“Bohemian Rhapsody” audition was when I became a fan less than 10 seconds into the song. A big, enthusiastic “Yes”.

“Believe” … “Oh, no”. I don’t know if this actually happened but I think Seacrest was standing in the wings with Adam, just before he was about to go on stage and sing it, and asked “Are you sure about this, buddy?” Smile If my memory is correct, Adam replied “Yes. I’m up for it. Let’s see what happens”. Something like that or … maybe this is a false memory of mine.

“Satisfaction” … “Oh, no”. (Again, sorry mieps!) Wink

“Black or White” … “Oh, no, NO”.

“Ring of Fire” … I’ve long since come to LOVE this song but, at the time, I clearly remember thinking, “Is this guy deliberately trying to shoot himself in the foot?!” Country Week. Sitars?!?? Randy points out to the world that “this guy wears nail polish” and if Randy’s wife had her way … if looks could kill … Adam would be dead. “Oh, no” (back then). Big “Yes” (today).

What on earth is Adam going to come up with next week?!?? I was SO tense, S-O-O anxious for him that you would have thought, at the very least, that we knew one another or that he was a member of my family! How could I have these very strong feelings about someone that I don’t even know?!?? There was only one logical solution to get through the next performance night … liquor! LOL I shouldn’t admit that because, I know, it’s absolutely ridiculous! Smile So I was, to put it mildly, in a “very happy place” Grin when it was Adam’s turn to perform. LOL

And what does he sing? “Tracks of My Tears”. I thought he looked the best that he had ever looked up to that point and he sounded fantastic!! Big standing ovation and prolonged cheers. I remember looking bleary-eyed at my glass of wine and thinking, “Well, I didn’t need this after all!” LOL

“Play That Funky Music” Confused: Rolls Eyes

The following week changed everything for me, though. Everything solidified and came together with “Mad World”. After that performance, he could sing whatever he wanted and, in my book, could do no wrong.

This has turned into an awfully long apology to mieps! Smile Now I apologize for the length!

I’m going to quietly go and sit in the corner for the rest of the afternoon. Wink

  36. Ron says:

… and learn how to make use of BOLD properly!! Rolls Eyes Well, I AM new to all this posting business. Grin

  37. luval says:

Ron, I’ve always disliked Satisfaction too. Doesn’t matter who sings it! I saw the Rolling Stones in several tours. Always went for a potty break during that song. Smile

  38. Kradamour says:

Ron, loved your big and bold post! LOL
I think you should copy it over to the glambert thread.

    ITA re Satisfaction.
And y’know, I just realized that WWFM makes me think of it. Not lyrically, really, but just the broken cadence of it. (not correct musical terminology but want to express the sense of my feelings about it)
Maybe that is the key to why I just can’t warm up to WWFM. I try so hard! It was Adam’s grammy nom! I have waved glowsticks during it! But if I never hear it again that is OK. It just seems so choppy, and the key is funny for me. (shakes head) I know that lots of peeps love it, so I won’t go on about this. But I am hoping so hard that the next single is something I (and millions of others!) can sing along to on the radio.

  39. nkd says:

I like Satisfaction. Stones and Adam’s versions. Smile

  40. ultimathule says:

Loved your post, Ron – particularly, how could you possibly have strong feelings about someone you didn’t even know? Well, it’s a puzzle, conundrum, etc., but it apparently has happened to millions of people. And, the anxiety each week – gawd – how I remember – wanted him to win so much. Going on three years now – a little more relaxed – but, boy, those feelings still pop up on occasion.

  41. luval says:

I heard WWFM in the Vitamin Shoppe today.

Oh, and when Adam said “my mother’s favorite” I cringed because usually that is the kiss of death for a contestant. Simon was always mocking people who said that. Especially if they stunk! Obviously that wasn’t Adam’s case.

  42. nkd says:

WWFM is not a favorite of mine, either. I do like Adam’s acoustic version of it, however. Maybe part of the problem with it is that it was written for Pink, and the same backing tracks were used for Adam’s recording. Maybe not a perfect fit for him.

  43. Ceddies says:

I loved the Stones back when they first came out. Was not a particular fan of Satisfaction until I got married in 1966 and moved to Ft. Walton Beach, FL. That was one of the songs that really blasted across the beach from the restaurant and clubhouse. It is now in my mind as a happy memory from some good old days. As I stated before, Paint It Black is my all-time favorite Stones song, and it was blasted across the beach too.

Oh, and I liked Adam’s version of Satisfaction too.

  44. mieps says:

Apology accepted, Ron. After all, I can’t really be too hard on you, since you’re a new poster and all.
From the looks of it we disagree on more songs! (And agree on some.) I don’t have time yet to add a post to the discovery thread, but will soon.

  45. mieps says:

And my taste cannot be trusted. I also like Time for miracles and No boundaries!
I don’t mind WWFM, but I certainly never understood why that song became such a hit. I always thought it was rather boring and monotonous.

  46. luval says:

luv Time for Miracles & No Boundaries!

  47. luval says:

So tonight Adam and Leila are being honored at that dinner. This is the type of event I would love to attend. (wouldn’t we all). Hope we get some pictures. I think we will. Adam is proud to be photographed with mom. Have to see the hair and clothes too!

  48. Kradamour says:

Oh, and when Adam said “my mother’s favorite” I cringed because usually that is the kiss of death for a contestant. Simon was always mocking people who said that.

One of the many, many things that I love about Adam is that he has always been open about his love and respect for his family, and especially his mom. No phobias about being seen as a mama’s boy, even though the image he is going for is sexy and rockstar. Smile

  49. Kradamour says:

    LOOOOOOOOOOOVE Time for Miracles!

I don’t mind WWFM, but I certainly never understood why that song became such a hit. I always thought it was rather boring and monotonous.

Yes. Or why it was chosen to be the single over, say, IIHY. Confused:

  50. luval says:

Did WWFM ever crack the top 10? I keep thinking it got as far as 12.
