I’m back in the US now and finally got to watch RHPS. I wasn’t sure how easy it would be to find the whole movie on my computer, but I found it right away on a Fox site. It was free and had only one commercial at the 1 hour point, just after the dining room scene with dead Eddie. Here’s the link if anyone wants to watch it:

I’m not sure if it will work outside the US. I didn’t even try to find the whole movie when I was in France. I just watched Adam’s part.
My thoughts…Adam was terrific as Eddie! I loved his frenetic take on Hot Patootie. He sounded fantastic, of course, but I also loved the sexiness, charm and humor that he brought to the role. Annaleigh Ashford was also great as Columbia. What a pair! I’d love to see those two collaborate again on another musical.
As much as I like Laverne Cox, I did not like her as Frank. She may be a transgendered woman, but the fact remains that she is now a woman and an attractive, large breasted one at that. It just didn’t work in this role. Frank needs to be a scary, kinky man in drag for the proper effect. I agree that Adam would have killed it as Frank. But I’m sure that Adam much preferred projecting the image of a gritty rock and roll biker to Middle America rather than that of an androgynous cross dresser. Besides he was busy on tour during the filming and, as he’s said, that’s his first priority.
Now I plan to start watching the XFactor vimeos. I have a lot of catching up to do but, from all of your comments, I’m sure I’ll enjoy every minute of it.

I finally watched RHPS today and agree with most thoughts about Laverne Cox. I really was tired of her on screen by the end and actually skipped over songs. I have never seen the original, but something about her didn’t seem to fit.
Adam was amazing.I wish he had had more screen time.

I have a friend at work who is really only about 29, and she loves musicals, and finally got to talk to her about RHPS.
Now, she is of High School Musical age, however, loves RHPS.
She was quite ambivalent about the remake. She loved Adam, but thought much like me. Too tame, too well lit, and not even remotely sexy or gritty.
She said it looked like a try out for a road show.

Am enjoying the X factor. Love both Adam and Guy. Both are very respectful of team members and try to give advice that will improve their performances.
RHPS Adam was great as Eddie but the rest of the cast were so vanilla and even kind of boring. There wasn’t enough personality amongst them to keep me interested.

Hi ALL (waves)! I finally found an on-line version of RHPC and I think that I am in the minority here. While I of course knew all about the original show and had seen clips, I had never seen the whole thing and it wasn’t connected with memories of my past. While looking for the new version with Adam, I actually found the complete original movie on line and I watched it. I realize that watching on a computer screen isn’t like watching it in a movie theater with the whole audience participation. Please don’t throw tomatoes at me, but I found it very dated and a bit boring. Of course Tim Curry was wonderful and I could see how it became a cult favorite.
Now to the current version…since I couldn’t find the whole show I just watched Adams song, which was fabulous. I particularly loved that expression on his face when he got stabbed. After reading so many negative reviews I didn’t really want to see the whole show, but I wanted to see the other Adam bits (his first entrance and the pictures of him later) so today I looked some more and found an on line version that I could see from here, outside the US. My expectations were very low…..and I actually enjoyed it. I know that Laverne is all woman now and doesn’t give the impression of a transvestite, but she is a very good actress and singer. (They could have looked for a Dr. Frankfurter from among the contestants on RuPaul’s Drag Race, maybe Raja.) I loved Annaleigh Ashford who played Columbia, and she and Adam had great chemistry. She was familiar to me from Masters of Sex, and when I Googled her I saw that she was also in Wicked! I also really liked Ivy in the first song and of course her and Adam’s lips at the end. Isn’t it funny that we can immediately identify those lips and teeth, but it was, of course, the sneers and “faces” he pulled that we are so familiar with that gave him away.
So all in all, I enjoyed it and I am glad I saw it.
BTW, I know that I still owe you a review of the Tel Aviv QAL show. It is mostly written, just needs some polishing.
