As October begins, Adam has just announced the official radio add date (October 8) for Trespassing, which is the title track and the third U.S. single from his album of the same name. A Trespassing EP with a radio edit and album remixes will also be available on October 16. After limited success for the first two singles from Trespassing, Adam likely needs this third single to be a hit in order to continue onward with the Trespassing era, at least here in the United States.

After an October 13th concert date in Australia, Adam will return to the U.S. for a pair of dates during the second half of the month, on October 17th at the Arizona State Fair in Phoenix, and on October 29th at the Texas Tango radio concert in Grand Prarie. Above we see a beautiful photo from @Alikat1323, taken at Adam’s September 25th benefit concert in support of marriage equality. Enjoy the chat!

Thanks for posting this because you cleared up something for me.

I thought everyone was laughing because Whitney said to Adam, “Forgive me for saying this but your ass is so pretty”. It kind of surprised me that this 14 year old would be bold enough to say something like that! That’s what it sounded like to me. Guess my ears were playing tricks on me. Laugh

    “Eyes are pretty”.

    Okay, got it now. Smile

  7. HK fan says:

What is ‘homecoming’. I used to think it was another name for the prom, but looking at the photos of Whitney that doesn’t seem to be the case.

  8. nkd says:

Let me give this a try.
Homecoming is a tradition at high schools and colleges when alumni are welcomed back usually for a football game. A king and queen are usually named and a court of dukes and duchesses, and/or prince and princesses…,
    A dance usually follows.
Local tradition dictates the course of events, but this is a general description.

Oh yeah, the girls receive and wear these horrid giant mums with huge ribbon streamers hanging from them!

Just to give you an idea of the mums

Homecoming is a dance held in High Schools when there is a football game scheduled at “home”, which means at your school. It is often the last game of the season, or a special game against a particular rival school. It is different than prom in that any student can attend, and prom is for Juniors and Seniors. It is a “couples” dance, nice clothes, etc. Many families attend the game to show community spirit. There are pep rallies, parades, decorations in town, etc. It’s really a big deal.

The game is the night before the dance, or in the afternoon of the dance. There is a “court” of elected students, like teh King and Queen of prom. Very competitive. Usually composed of the queen bitch of the cheerleaders and captain of the football team. Please refer to Glee, because that show is brutally honest at times.
Of course, things may have changed recently, but my youngest just graduated, and this still held true for his years.

  10. nkd says:

Do y’all do the mums in other parts of the country, or is that just a Texas or southern thang?

Now they use silk mums, but back in my day we had real flowers, and things weren’t quite as gawdy.

  11. cwm says:

turquoisewaters – Thanks for explaining what you saw in the Muse video that reminded you of my avi. I see what you mean now. To me, that Muse image does look like a bundle of nerves, as nkd suggested.

Funny that Sauli tweeted out the link to that video the same day that it came up for discussion here. Y’all are so on top of things!

  12. milwlovesadam says:

    We just have corsages here.

  13. milwlovesadam says:

Just watched the video Adam tweeted. And there’s hate in the comments. Why am I surprised?

  14. nkd says:

I researched a little, yep a Texas thang, but it’s spreading!

The homecoming mum is distinctive in Texas, where the over-the-top mum is widely considered to have blossomed first. But high schools in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana have adopted the tradition as well.

“I’ve had orders from as far away as military bases in Germany,” Braswell said. “It seems like wherever someone from Texas goes, they try to take the mum tradition with them.”

  15. nkd says:

The new Muse album was released yesterday, so it all coincided.

Hi Peeps! We have an extra ticket to the Phoenix show. Section C, row 11, Seat 11. If anyone is interested please let me know. I will probably have to bring it with me to the show since the tickets we purchased via Adam’s site don’t get mailed out until the 10th. That’s cutting it pretty close.

  18. HK fan says:

Thanks mils and nkd for answering….and not thinking I’m an idiot for asking!!! I do know quite a few Americanisms (is that even a word) from living in Asia and watching American tv but hadn’t quite sussed that one out.

    So heartwrenching.

  21. Kradamour says:

HKFan, yes, Americanism is a word, and homecoming is a very strange Americanism.
I think that in the south and in smaller towns elsewhere it is a bigger deal than in larger communities, simply because the local sports games are a bigger event when there isn’t as much competition for attention. For the school where I teach, it is a HUGE deal (a smaller high school in a community where everyone has gone to the high school for generations), but for my son’s school (in an adjoining city, much more transient population because of the military and other reasons) it was important but definitely not the focus of attention that it is where I teach.
(“Mums”? Really? Wow. Impressive! But not too flattering, gotta say.)
    Chic

  22. jlurksacto says:

Yah, and I start my road trip on the 15th. Ground Control’s office is just
2-3 miles from where I live. Could be there in 15 Min. BUT that probably isn’t
where the tickets are mailed from. Susan, guess I have to give you the ticket
in Phoenix. Lavel, you in yet?

  23. JOJOSIE says:

Mils I had to laugh at your head bitch cheerleader description. There were two senior cheerleaders my last year of high school. Myself and a friend, who was the head bitch cheerleader. When homecoming queen election time came I’m sure she thought she had it in the bag. But that year they decided since a cheerleader had been queen every year for some time that cheerleaders couldn’t be nominated for queen. That was great as my very best friend got to be queen. Yes, I was a cheerleader. I was little and cute back then and could do cartwheels better than anyone else and flips too. I was also nice and an honor student, something that some folks don’t always associate with the sport. We definitely didn’t have those mums, but did have a parade and dance after the game. A big thing at our school was a pep rally the night before with a bonfire. Thing change over time, local and traditions but I do believe most schools do still celebrate homecoming. Now we can all practice cheerleading for Adam.

  24. milwlovesadam says:

Kradamour, you may be right about some towns, but, in our large high schools, in the suburbs of a large city, Homecoming is still a really big deal. Each suburb is like it’s own “small town” in the context of a big metro area. There is intense rivalry between schools, and at Homecoming it really comes out!

  25. milwlovesadam says:

Jojosie, you still are cute and perky!! My school has a huge pep rally before and a bonfire after the game ( Friday night ) and the dance on Saturday night.

  26. luval says:

  27. jlurksacto says:

    Yep!

  28. glambotgram says:

Homecoming LOL is this Friday at out school. In addition to a parade, dance, Queen and court. We have activities all week. Kids have different dress up days all this week, Farmer day, favorite movie character, each class has their own theme and there is a theme day, spirit day, favorite disney character etc. One year, somehow, our high schoolers slipped in a cross dressing day. Laugh It was hilarious but the administration was not amused especially since every guy looked like a 10 cent hooker.

One thing here also is the girls ride in convertibles around the football field at halftime then get out and are escorted across the football field by their fathers. They stand in front of the home crowd and last years homecoming queen crowns the winner. This is a small community and it is a very big deal here.
No Mums here, our girls carry roses, and have a corsage for the dance.

  29. Kradamour says:

mils, I also think that it is a bigger deal in the midwest. When I lived in Illinois and in Iowa, homecoming was HUGE and I understand from friends there that nothing has really changed.

Crossdressing day – what a hoot!
The school where I teach has homecoming this Friday, also. Our dress-up days don’t get a lot of participation, but it is fun for those who participate. Today was twin day, and quite a few BFFs dressed alike. Yesterday was character day, much less participation. Tomorrow is extreme immaturity, the kids will dress as babies and little kids, that day is quite popular. “Spirit links” of construction paper are sold during homeroom, and the class that makes the longest chain wins something.
I hadn’t thought of this being a particularly American thing, but I guess it is.
    Thinking

  30. nkd says:

Week long activities, girls in convertibles, dads escorting daughters, and last year’s queen crowning the new Homecoming queen all happens here too. I live in a large suburb of Houston. The Homecoming court does not wear the mums on the field, just to be clear.

  31. Kradamour says:

So when do they wear the mums, nekkid?

Hmmm…how to make this less OT?
Oh, I know….when Adam did a “Homecoming” to his high school during Idol!
    Grin

  32. JOJOSIE says:

Luval Does that mean your coming to Phoenx? I’m sharing my room with Ladybugs, but could make room for one more if your interested.

  33. nkd says:

Everybody has a mum! Traditionally boys buy them for their dates. The boys also wear smaller ones on their arms now too!
Almost every high school girl will have a mum.
They wear them in the stands at the game, but they are not usually worn with their gowns during the ceremony.

Where’s Texas? I know you know about this!

    Example

This discussion came about after Adam called in to Ryan’s show in support of the high school teen elected to the Homecoming court. So, a little bit on topic! But this is probably enough. HK fan now knows way more that she cared to find out!

I think I’ve told everyone before about my grandson who was bullied a lot in elementary school and rumors were flying that he was gay. My daughter & family moved to another city, so he got to start over in a new school and this year he was voted as the Sophomore Duke for the Homecoming Court. The girl he has a crush on was voted as Duchess and he’s excited that he will get to dance with her. (ok, so he’s still a little shy about the dating thing!) He’s come a long way!

Hey! It wouldn’t be Homecoming without those big ol’ Mum’s! Loved them!

I’m originally from Glee country–Lima, Ohio. Mums were a big thing there. We used the real flowers, simple white ribbon, and usually a pipecleaner fashioned into a “B” on it (for the name of our school).

Seems like the tradition has been around a long time though. I was in high school 1969-1972 in Ohio. Big Mums, a Homecoming parade through town, and the dance. Fun memories.

I moved from Maryland to Texas and my first homecoming my boyfriend and best friend asked me what kind of mum I wanted. I had no idea what they were talking about so after school we went to a florist and I really thought it was a joke. I asked them why would you wear that? Of course, they said tradition. I said well not mine and I never did wear one. I still think they are hilarious! And they keep growing. My best friend showed me one that her daughter wore and I swear I could only see her face and hands. I get the tradition more now but moving from DC to Ft. Worth (Cowtown) was culture shock.
