Well, fall has arrived and it’s time for our October chat thread. This is the sixth monthly chat we’ve had on the site. Thought about using a Burning Man photo for this month, but decided to continue with the Adam getting awards theme with this photo of Adam and Leila at the 2nd annual PFLAG National LA Event.

Still hoping for a new single sometime soon, but maybe not this month. Enjoy the chat!

Sydney concert 10/20/11..tongue diving, he kissed Cam’s neck and mopped the floor!

Geez, can you imagine walking by a cafe and seeing him. Don’t know what I’d do. Well maybe I do know what I’d do. Tell him I was one of the Paris peeps who didn’t get a photo. That’s what I’d do!!!

Aww, don’t be negative nkd. Leave that to me! Time just flies by. Before we know it, we’ll have that album. Like I said in a previous post, I’ll wait as long as I have to. I am nervous for him, though. Big expectations that possibly cannot be fulfilled. I mean what can he or his collaborators say…”that stunk or this is awful or this song is a mess”. Although maybe Adam thought that and decided to start over as someone else said.

And even I am losing interest!

I feel the same way, Kradamour! I completely empathise with you.

The other night I mentioned a concern I have about this subject and I didn’t go into it but I will now. I don’t think this has been mentioned … probably because no one thinks it’s significant. LOL It has to do with Adam’s use of the word perfect and the number of times he has said it. Add to this, his repeatedly saying, “I’m a perfectionist”. There are many peeps out there who will take those statements to mean literally [perfect].

Anticipating this new CD, and the simple fact that it’s Adam, the bar was already set at a high level for and by his fans. Eventually, industry executives would look upon the release of Adam’s CD with very high expectations. But, when this CD was first announced and confirmed, I think the bar was certainly high but was also most likely reasonable and realistic. We were given an approximate time frame release and the standard was put in place.

Next thing we knew, we were told there would be a delay. Adam’s explanation was it has to be perfect and I’m a perfectionist. I would guess that a lot of fans began to think, “I know it’s going to be good but, with this delay, and he’s saying it has to be perfect because he’s a perfectionist, this is really going to be good! This is going to be great!!” This surely raised what was already a bar that had been set very high to an even higher level of expectation.

With each subsequent delay and explanation that it has to be perfect, Adam himself kept raising this bar higher and higher. I think we might be at a level now where one would need an oxygen mask to be able to breathe. Smile

My fear is that the bar has reached an unrealistic high level of expectation. This CD could be the greatest recording in the history of all recorded music but for some, not all, it’s not going to live up to what they anticipate it’s going to be in their minds. Because of this, I’m afraid some will be disappointed upon first hearing it. I’m reasonably sure this will be corrected when played a second and/or third time if people will listen to this CD on the CD’s terms and merits and not listen to it with what they imagine it’s going to be. I’m not directing this at anyone here!! I’m sure the peeps on this blog are going to first listen to this with an open mind. I only hope that the rest of Adam’s fandom will do the same.

So, I simply wish Adam hadn’t used the word perfect over and over coupled with I’m a perfectionist that followed each delay. To some, this may have created a false impression of the finished product. That’s on the one hand. On the other hand, what else could he say? He had to say something! I guess I’ve just defeated my own argument because, underneath it all, I do understand Adam’s public explanation. Just wish he hadn’t used the word perfect. There’s no such thing as “perfect” unless, of course, the subject matter is about me. LOL LOL

Here’s to open minds, an excellent CD and huge sales! Wink

  7. luval says:

    Hi Ron! I totally agree!

perfect…free of faults! My goodness. Anything lower than perfect will be a failure! Well, I exaggerate but I don’t want to hear that anymore either. My hope is he will not say one more word about how wonderful the album will be. I’m expecting a nice album. An album that can stand on it’s own with everything else out there. I want it to sell hundreds of thousands in the first week. I want to like it. Period.

  9. dcglam says:

    Ron…
I totally understand where you are coming from with the word “perfect”. I am looking at this “perfectionist” thing in a different way. I am thinking that Adam is working to make this CD perfect to him. I feel that we will not see (hear) anything until he has it just the way he wants for himself.

It is his baby, his masterpiece, his work of art. He wants the satisfaction that he did his best. JMHO

  10. Kradamour says:

asif, rapsista, a perfect post and a perfect pic to pick us up out of our seriousness! Smile

Ron and luval – yes. I want Adam to simply make an album and keep his thoughts to himself. Do not tell us how wonderful it is going to be – show us.
Let US tell YOU how wonderful it is, after we hear it!

  11. nkd says:

Ron, I get where you’re coming from and somewhat agree.
Music is art, and art is subjective, thus one persons perfection may not be someone else’s!
    Yes, expectations are high!

  12. ultimathule says:

    Darn – video removed.

  13. Ron says:

    Hi luval!!

Hi dcglam, I completely understand your point of view. I’m sure Adam has always meant “perfect” to mean up to his standards and he won’t settle for anything less. I was more addressing how the average fan might interpret the word “perfect” to mean they’ll be listening to something that is flawless. It might turn out that way! But I think it’s better to make that assessment after having heard it instead of before buying it.

  14. nkd says:

I just want to be able to buy it!!!! Wink

  15. dcglam says:

You are so right about the average fan, Ron.
I have my fingers crossed and hoping (thinking) that he/she may not follow all of Adam’s tweets regarding this “perfect” album. I really do not think that Adam is trying to convey to the public that this album is perfect, and hopefully it will not be interpreted as such.

I don’t know if this is true or rumour.

    RCA might have done something.?!?

  20. Calgary says:

So this perfectionism is the flip side of the “fiery halo” – he is relentless in trying to get what he wants. In this case, it seems to be perfection. But it will never be “perfect”.

I am an artist, and I will often tweak and tweak and tweak my paintings. I thank heaven that I have friends who will say “STOP, that painting is done!” One friend has hung a painting I did early on, and every time I’m there I ask her if I can fix it. “What’s there to fix?” she asks. Who am I to question her taste? There are always imperfections, but we are far harder on ourselves than the people who are interested in our work.

I think Ron has a good point. Adam’s fans would have bought almost anything in the way of a single in the past couple of months – we love him, we are already on his side – as long as it was good, we’d be happy. But he keeps wanting it to be “great” at the same time as interest is waning, and if it’s not “great” it may flop.

Oh for the good old days when bands put out a couple of singles, and if they were successful, then a few more singles, and then made an album that had the singles and some new songs. There had to be a lot less pressure.

    I confess I’m getting fed up/bored/frustrated/losing interest.

  22. Oksana2000 says:

Believe me or not, but I just looked at Amazon.com and the BFM bastard album IS NOT THERE. The single is still on iTunes, but no album. Something must’ve happened, and I’m crossing my fingers that it’s not just another trick of You Know Who.
    Hurrrrah!!
Oh, I see that asif beat me to it… Smile

  23. turquoisewaters says:

Leave it to asif to always have the perfect focus!

I have read many comments how Adam should not be taking so many photos with drag queens. I disagree. He is obviously completely
comfortable, and so should everybody else be. I really like that he judged on this drag event. Hey, what’s one more day??
Maybe his biggest mistake was to make any early announcements as to when his album would come out. I am hoping that he does not take the perfect too literally, and that it won’t paralyze him. It might just be an expression that it will be his best effort and not a rushed job. Or a bit of the usual hype around new albums. After Gaga’s album annoucements, “perfect” sounds really modest to me.
I really don’t think the media expect a perfect album (whatever that is). I certainly don’t. The general public is most likely not even picking up on the “perfect” talk. We can be happy if they realize there IS a new album.

  24. asifclueless says:

Oksana.. I hope that it won’t disappear just temporary.

Nah … Ron, I’ll be your sidekick. Grin

  25. Oksana2000 says:

This may be just my gut feeling, but I think that Adam is not improving of what he had on his album, something tells me that at some point he decided to start from scratch…

    Hi Calgary!

Yes. I was around during that time and that’s exactly how it used to go and it seemed to work perfectly! Also, I don’t remember that it mattered what time of year or month a recording artist released an album. Whenever someone you liked released an album, you went to the store and bought it!

I remember reading an interview held with Doris Day. This was some time ago. She couldn’t understand how someone could take 2 years to record and release an album. She said, something-like, “In my day, I went to the recording studio by 8:00am where we’d begin with coffee and talk about the day ahead of us. We’d record songs until 1:00pm when we’d break for lunch. We were back to work by 2:00pm and, when we were finished around 6:00 or 7:00pm, it was done. The album was completed. How much more time do you need than that?”

Those were the good old days, alright. Wink

  28. luval says:

Ok, Debbie Downer here again. Bothers me that many of you are losing interest. Must be catching. First one of ya, then another, then another. Hang in there! What will I do without you here? Help!

  29. Oksana2000 says:

Maybe his biggest mistake was to make any early announcements as to when his album would come out.

turq, unless you are referring to his anouncement at the beginning of 2011 (single -spring, album summer) he NEVER said that he will have an album coming in November. It was a rumour started by somebody and then repeated by excited fans.

  30. Oksana2000 says:

luval, I’m not losing interest.I am simply impatient. If I was losing interest, I would be watching The X Factor. I must be one of those 10 million who is not watching…

  31. turquoisewaters says:

I didn’t mean November, I meant much earlier on (last year), when we were hoping for spring/summer. Hope my memory is not failing me here. And no, I think it was never uttered as a definitive date, more like what he was currenty thinking. But somehow it started the waiting process in my head…

  32. turquoisewaters says:

luval: Just wait. The first beep of the first single, and we will all be back!!

  33. Oksana2000 says:

Does anyone here knows how to check first 1000 singles on iTunes? I wonder how BFM is doing.

  36. Teri63 says:

As we await Adam’s album, I’ve really enjoyed coming here to read everyone’s input and share in all of your excitement/nervous anticipation/fearful anxieties. I’ve felt some of the anticipatory frustration, too, but I keep coming back to an inkling that Adam’s perfectionism is not entirely responsible for moving the estimated release date back to 2012. RCA is a huge and very established company that has worked with some of the all-time greats. While Adam is obviously respected enough to have merited some artistic control (thus, his “Executive Producer” title), I truly don’t believe that a company as experienced as RCA would allow him–a guy with just one album under his belt–to make the ultimate decision about when the album will be released. I really think it’s a strategic move and that in the meantime, Adam and RCA are just having to rationalize the decision to his fans. RCA has done so by stating that while they are excited about the work that has been done, they feel it can be tweaked to make it even better, that it is just on the cusp (of something – LOL! Greatness, I hope!) Adam has tried to stave our hunger for new music by giving us a beautiful preview of “Outlaws of Love,” publicly tweeting back and forth with various producers for the benefit of piquing our interest and letting us know things are in the works, making statements to the media about being a perfectionist, etc.

I’ve loved some of the comments above, but I don’t necessarily share the fear that Adam’s admission of striving for perfection will backlash with over-expectation for his new album. IMO, the majority of the people even paying attention to what Adam is saying right now are either his established fans or his enemies; his fans will love him even if the single they wanted in September is really released in November and the album is pushed off a few months from his early estimates. I mean, if Adam had initially, at the very beginning said he planned to release the album in February or March of 2012, his fans would have just gone with that. There might have been a few moans and groans about the gap between album #1 and #2, but we’d have accepted it and collectively started the excited count-down. Anyone who ceases to be a fan just because he’s delivering a little later than his earlier time-frame estimates isn’t really a fan, IMO. As far as those non-fans who follow every word Adam utters in hopes of finding fault, they’d have found something else to deride, anyway.
I’m really eager for Adam’s music to come out, too, don’t get me wrong. But I don’t think the members of the general public who are not yet fans or haters really care in what month Adam releases his music. People who weren’t into the last album and who didn’t follow the GlamNation tour likely don’t even feel the time passage between projects. Ultimately, his fans will buy the album whenever it comes out, and if it’s good, others will jump on the train with us.

  37. Calgary says:

    Hey Ron!

Can you twitter that Doris Day story to Adam? I think he needs some perspective!

  38. luval says:

Nice post Teri63. Remember that letter to the editor in TV Guide last week…”what happened to Adam Lambert?”. I’m glad I’m in this bubble, but I have to remember there are millions just living their lives, turning on their radios if only in their cars, not giving a hoot about Adam or anyone else for that matter. Yes, these are the peeps that I hope will jump on that train and get those “ear worms” from an Adam Lambert single!

  39. luval says:

Nice post Teri63. Remember that letter to the editor in TV Guide last week…”what happened to Adam Lambert?”.

Yes, loved reading your eloquent and reasoned post, Teri63.

luval, I was going to mention that “whatever happened to …” letter but, as always, we laugh alike, we walk alike, sometimes we even talk alike so not surprised you mentioned it first. We walk alike?! LOL

Honestly, I could wait until next October to hear this CD. My listening to this music doesn’t matter. My frustration, worries and even sadness have to do with Adam and his career and where he should be now after being in the public eye for close to 3 years. He’s already the subject of a “whatever happened to???” That’s awful. If one person has this thought, many others must be thinking the same thing.

I suppose this is very juvenile of me to feel this way but I’d like to see each and every naysayer who complained “all he does is scream”, “I can’t stand the tongue [sticking out]”, “Forgetable”, “Isn’t his 15 minutes [of fame] over yet” to be squashed by his success. Yesterday!

We all know he’s been hugely successful but not to the extent where his critics would be forced to sit back and think, “Well, hate to admit it but, I guess there is something to this guy after all”. I’m sure the critics would never admit that they hate to admit it. Smile

I’m not impatient for the CD release. But I am very impatient for Adam to be an icon in the music industry that Paula predicted he would be one day.

I’m sure … aren’t you? … that Adam will be nominated for a Grammy. I hope this CD receives multiple nominations and several wins! Then he’ll be where he should be now and I can relax. LOL

  46. Ellessay says:

I hope the extra time taken with the album will give him a chance to really grow into the music. The last one was done in such a hurry, and most of the songs were so much better after he performed them after a while. They’ve had time to really tweak the production this time.

Yeah, I am anxious for the new album, but I’m still listening to the old one several times a week. When I get tired of FYE, I listen to the AI songs. Can’t wait for the new single!

  47. dcglam says:

    And Ron…..
    I agree 100 percent!!!

I’m right there with you Ron. I have a sister who had the tongue complaint and another one who didn’t like the scream. Would love to see them as rabid as I am about Adam.

  49. luval says:

haha…Ron…forgot about complaints about the tongue and screaming. So maybe everyone will too! Yes, an icon. Love that.

I know we spoke about this before, but in regards to Grammy talk, he’s probably too late for 2012 even if the single came out next week, so it would be 2013 right?
