There wasn’t much about new music in April but Adam did have some fun as he and several “Forever friends” had a blast at Coachella. And he got a new tattoo too! May (the month not the guitarist) sees Adam (and possible the guitarist May) in New York for Live Nation’s National Concert Day “Kickoff to Summer”. He won’t be performing but will be interviewed so there will be videos and photos! The rest of May will probably be spent rehearsing for the QAL tour which starts on June 23rd in Phoenix, AZ. With the promise of this new tour being “a big one” they may need more time to get it in touring shape.

A thought. Since new American Idol will be on ABC, that’s where the frickin’ AMA’s were on.
I’ve been thinking that same thing ever since Daughtrey was mentioned, luval, but didn’t want to rain on anyone’s parade. I also think that Katy and Adam are too much in the same zone and that Idol/ABC wouldn’t want two judges from the same management company. Too much “gang-up” potential at contract time, especially if the show takes off.
IMHO, John Legend, who was rumoured, would be a very good complement to Katy. In that scenario, Daughtrey fills a demographic gap. Every judging panel has to have a straight white male.
It’s unlikely that ABC still has an issue with Adam but it could be that the best thing about the Idol reboot is that he will have a great annual opportunity to promote his music.

Yes, once Katy Perry signed on that put an end to Adam being considered. All speculation, of course. But yet again an amazing talent like Adam would be overlooked. I really dislike talking about him not getting it but I’m a realist. Oh well, we’ll see soon enough who they’ve chosen.

I don’t see Daughtrey at all. He might turn out well but he’s an unknown quantity as a judge. In fairness, I did not see Idol before Season 7 but what little I know about him doesn’t inspire confidence. He is a nice and talented guy but comes across as guarded, taciturn, reserved.
One thing Idol needs is a lot of young people who are inspired to compete. I think Adam has inspired a lot of contestants to try out. He is clearly a favourite among later contestants.
His biggest contribution to X Factor Australia was his passion and commitment to the job. He was stellar. Did ABC even look at his tapes? (DMG has to have submitted them.)
LOL on Iggy – she pretty much mailed it in for most episodes. It’s hard to think that ABC wouldn’t find that out if she were under consideration.

My opinion on Daughtry.
I loooooved him on his season, was one of the millions who cried out in angst when he was eliminated at 4th place, which was one of the top remembered moments of Idol ever.
He has a huge knowledge of music, is a great and articulate communicator, and can sing and perform his face off. I have his first and second records.
He came back to Idol along with Adam that season where they mentored some of the kids for several episodes. The kids spoke highly of him.
No, he hasn’t been a judge, but, he was on Idol During The Simon , Randy and Paula years, he has been through that boot camp.
He is loyal to his band, he was with them before Idol, and is still with them. He has the same wife, and is very grounded.
As much as I would love to see our guy on TV every week, I do think that Daughtry will be a very good judge.
I also do think that Adam will have a role in some capacity. He’s in too many articles, too many interviews, too present, to NOT.
I am going to bow to your much greater knowledge of Daughtrey, mils. I didn’t start watching until season 7 so am not really in the loop. Also Season 5 appears to have been a spectacular year. I am sure he will be fine but I can’t help thinking that Adam would be so good at this.

Katy’s upcoming tour is starting in September and the last date is in February 2018 – not much time for judging preliminary auditions. Maybe she has been told she doesn’t have to do that part of it – or can be exempt from some of it. It is a puzzle but we don’t know the Idol game plan yet.
I’m not sure why Katy being selected means that Adam is out. If ABC is looking for the drama to be in the contestants and not between the judges, and to go with the traditional 2 male and 1 female judge panel, I think a Katy-Daughtry-Adam panel would work out very well! After all Katy and Adam are friends and Daughtry and Adam worked very well together as mentors and they are nearly opposites which would make their opinions quite different.
And why aren’t these interviews with Adam discussing the fantastic job he did filling in for Keith Urban last year?
Adam and Chris Daughtry mentored the contestants at the Terracea Resort in California in Season 13. I thought that it was an odd pairing, but they seemed to get along quite well and their different perspectives complemented each other. Chris impressed me with his astute and sensitive advice to the contestants. I think that a judging panel with Katy, Chris and Adam would have great chemistry and be loads of fun while providing balanced, constructive criticism to the contestants.
Of course, I have no hope that my dream panel will come to pass. I just hope that they don’t hire someone boring like Carrie Underwood or a prima donna like Iggy.
