April was an exciting month, to say the least – news of sold-out Rock-in-Rio concert – great articles in Attitude and Notion magazines – many interviews – Ghost Town single and video release – and lots of angsting over Shazam/Spotify/iTunes/YT and how best to promote Adam, along with the “whistle” question – whodunit? This month may see Adam performing GT live on TV and moving his way up the radio charts. Should be a busy time before the album release on June 16!

    Haha luval your comment about seeing minuses where others see dashes, as well as the mix of optimistic vs. worried posts over the last few pages remind me of one of my dear engineer husband’s favorite jokes…

    I just arrived in Washington DC for a conference over the next few days. I’m very happy to report that adamized and mmm222 will be making the trek into downtown DC to meet up with me and we’ll be getting together for dinner tonight! Yay! Looking forward to seeing them and doing some serious berting! Smile

    Yes, twilightmagic. It was brought up during the Trespassing era. Our good friend kinkydies confirmed this with the label last time around and advocated loudly for the buying of CD’s one at a time. (She even made a sales associate angry by making him ring 5 CD’s through separately, which is not a good idea since the clerk can notate the sale if they wish.)

    Based on my 30 years of experience as a retail buyer, I can confirm that it is both possible and makes sense for the retailer and radio to use it.

    This does not affect unit sales report on mediabase or soundscan. EVERY CD SOLD ABSOLUTLEY COUNTS AS A CD SOLD BUT TPTB CAN READ THE SALES IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS.

    Radio chooses to read the sales in terms of how many people bought (i.e. liked) it. Charts and best seller lists are very sensitive to the possibility of bulk buying. This applies to books as well as CD’s. The New York Times Best Seller list, for example, notes when a book has been subject to multiple purchasing.

    If you are on iTunes or Amazon, you have seen notifications that “other people who bought song/CD A, also bought this CD/Song B. They can tell you that because of a tool called is “Basket Analysis”. It analyzes transactions.

    Radio looks at basket analysis because their success depends on people actually liking the song – that means a 5-CD multiple purchase by one person = one “like” to them.

    The analysis is confined to the transaction. As far as I know radio doesn’t ask iTunes to supply information re: gifting or multiple transaction but the time may come when they will.

    This analysis is not hard to come by – you can get unit sales and the number of purchasers in a weekly line report. It is a gold mine of information and definitely worth having if you are a radio station.

    I just wanted people to know that, if a person wants to ramp up Adam’s sales by purchasing multiple CD’s, it will help him a little more with radio if they purchase them one at a time.

    Re: sales analysis – analysts looks for both trends and anomalies. Anomalies are full on information. Generally speaking, there are projected trend arcs for products. A product that is below trend may be dropped or given a stay of execution. A product that is above trend will be subject to extra analysis to ensure that the purchasing activity isn’t anomalous (i.e. regional variations, an employer’s legitimate gift to all of his 200 employees etc.) This matters because you don’t buy on trend if purchasing activity involves anomalous purchasing.

    After it’s fast start, GT needs to deliver a solid, steady performance in all categories to maintain it’s position. That’s why I waited until this week to buy the clean version of GT and why I asked a couple of days ago if anyone knows whether purchasing of the same song 4 times (clean/explicit, regular/deluxe) counts as 4 separate sales. If so, I will buy the other 2 versions.

    Finnberts are really excited about this Live Aid event. I hope Adam sings more than a couple of songs. A lot of performers are involved in this event, including violinist, Pekka Kuusisto. YAY! It should be fun to watch the livestream.

    No humidity TLKC. Humidity is less than 10%. When it is that low, it is hard to breathe outside. But, of course, high humidity is terrible. That is why I try not to leave Jerusalem in the summer.

    Shoshanna has flown over quite a few times to assist Adam on US promotions, so she has UK and NA. Beyond that, we will probably find out when he starts the international promo tour. On twitter, she seems to be the face of his publicity team for fans of all countries.

    OMG freaking out here!! I just got a tweet from kinkykiedis about the live aid! Been off the grid since morning, busy day today. That’s great news Big Smile Don’t know what to do… many finnberts are not going but some are… Article said he performs his new hit so I don’t think it’s more than one song. Probably I will watch it on tv. Great exposure, I guess many peeps are watching because the show is full of Finnish top stars.

    But never say never, I sleep on this and there’s always possibility to visit Helsinki Wink Especially if there’s any chance he stays for more days… cwm, thank you for thinking of me, any possibility you might come over to bring me luck for meeting Adam finally Wink

    Well it will be a shame if Adam only sings one song at that event but he is very big in Finland and it all helps.

    I have heard that Shoshanna is a bit bitchy, cait, but I don’t pay a lot of attention to her tweets. She probably doesn’t make the promo and event decisions. The publicity team generally writes press releases and handles the communications including social media.

    I was in the taxi on the way home and heard a familiar whistle in the background (radio was turned down quite some). Tried to Shazam, but the volume was to low. The Taxi driver however notice me doing that and turned up the volume for me! It was GT indeed on SlamFM. Since he had that station on I asked the taxi drive if he heard that song more often and he said yes, it’s played at least 4-5 times a day!! Very nice (although it’s a small station it counts)! Then got home and saw that Q-music had replied to my tweet about them playing GT this afternoon. They played it about the same time! Then after that 3FM played it just 20 minutes later as well (according to their playlist).

    So in about 20 minutes time GT got played on 3 pop stations here in the Netherlands in prime time for everybody driving home from work and stuff. Really great!

    GT dropped a bit on Dutch iTunes but after those spins it rose 2 places again. Now on #14 overall and #8 Pop. The album keeps popping up in iTunes as well.

    Really exited of him getting to the Netherlands. Wonder where he’ll be.

    So great for the Finberts to have him perform there.

    cwm – dinner tonight with adamized & mmm222 – aren’t you lucky! I don’t think we’ve met yet – you weren’t at WB in May 2012 when I met adamized & mmm222 for the first time, right? I was tempted to invite myself to dinner – what’s a 2 hr drive to meet up with fellow ALL’ers – but I just don’t have it in me today. Too much going on in RL. Have a fabulous time!

    I think I may be nuts. I got home, decided to check the ticket situation for Live Aid. For seats, only few single seats left. I made some thinking and bang, bought one. There are many problems on the way, a lot of health problems lately, and anyway I can’t sit in concert for full 5 hours… so I should know when A is on to go on right time.

    But I thought if I cant find that out or am in too bad condition to travel, the price of tix (58€) goes to good cause. I just couldn’t resist, Adam will be only two hours away! I have a serious need to hear his voice live on Stadium… Even one song. I also like some other performers there. I think most Finnberts who go have bought golden circle standing tix.

    I’ll see what happens, will I be there or not. Kinda shocked now, this came pretty soon lol. I think I call this a day now, I need some sleep.

    Thanks glambot & sparkle! Thumbs up I manage to solve the puzzle. I have to stay two nights, can’t attend a long concert and travel the same day… I hope some friends are free so that I don’t have to pay a hotel and can meet friends on the same trip. Will work on that tomorrow. I feel unreal!
