Singer Adam Lambert loves the idea of home concerts and thinks it’s something that could last past the pandemic. ‘It’s pretty cool. It’s a direct reflection of where we’re at with technology too,’ he told Metro.co.uk. ‘It’s amazing what we can do now, as far as casting ourselves everywhere. I definitely want to do something coming up, I’m gonna try to figure something out.’
Hi, ultimathule. Yes I hope we get songs…even if their not his but maybe Adam, Terrance & Anthony harmonizing or something. I mean really… Terrance & Anthony are from Hamilton so they all would be fabulous. Better than seeing partying photos IMO.

Here’s a translation of the Fast Forward German interview.
Adam Lambert, originally made famous by his unforgettable appearances in the American Idol TV format in 2009, has made a name for himself as the new front man of the legendary rock band Queen in recent years and has been on tour with the living legends almost non-stop. Now Adam Lambert is back with his own work, his fourth studio album “Velvet”. In the interview he told me how his songs are created, why he is particularly proud of “Velvet” and what he likes so much about Berlin.
Hi Adam, it’s been more than 10 years since you first auditioned “American Idol”. How present is your memory of exactly this moment, the first appearance in front of the jury?
I still have that in mind. It was a totally crazy situation because I had given up my job for that. I had put everything on this one card. I knew that if it went wrong I wouldn’t have a job or coal …
You really did a lot to be able to be there …
(laughs) Yeah, I just hoped it was going well. I was willing to stay there until they would give me their go.
You have just released your fourth studio album “Velvet”. How do you experience this phase? Are you happy to finally be able to share the album with the world?
Oh yes, I’m incredibly happy. I’ve worked incredibly hard on this album for several years. I approached it differently this time than before. The album has a different sound and energy, I just wanted to try something new.
Yes, I think you can hear that too. Your style has developed a lot compared to the older albums. The sound sounds very ripe. Was that a natural development?
Oh yes, I think I just got older over the years and I became more aware than ever of what I want to do as a singer. I played a lot with my voice on this project, the songs all have their own feeling… “Velvet” sounds 100 percent like me. I think the sound also reflects the music that I like to listen to. The album is just very authentic. I am very happy with it.
What inspired you when you worked on the album?
I haven’t listened to top 40 music for a long time because I didn’t want to just follow a trend. Instead, I trusted my own instinct. This maxim was at the center of everything I put into the album, I just listened to my stomach.
And what message do you want to get across with the album?
The common thread that runs through the entire album is love. It’s about different types of love, about finding love, falling in love and falling in love and about self-love. Some songs are about exactly that self-esteem and the realization that you should first of all love and respect yourself and be aware that you deserve good. That is particularly important to me. “Superpower” is a good example of this, also “Stranger You Are”, “Ready To Run”. These are all songs that have the message: “Hey, if that just doesn’t feel right for you, you deserve something better.”
You worked with great songwriters on your album. How did the songs actually come about? How does the songwriting process work for your songs?
Basically, it works a little differently for all songs. But the most important thing for me is that I work on the songs with the right people. With this album, I initially just told which music and which artists I like and we all listened to their songs together. Those were mostly older songs from the 70s and 80s, and then we just started freestyling based on this sample song. Someone grabbed a guitar, the producer tested a drum beat, someone played the piano – and so the chords and a rhythm gradually emerged, it all happened very naturally. And the themes of the songs were more or less derived from the groove of the song. Depending on whether a song sounds happy or sad, full of energy or rather seductive – the music sets the direction and theme of the song.
Then is it difficult to find the right lyrics?
It depends. The most important thing is that you play the balls back and forth with your co-writers. The first suggests something, then the second and then you decide together what works best. It’s a lot of teamwork, but for me it’s the best way to work. My best songs are made in a team.
And do you have a favorite number of all tracks on the album?
I like them all equally. (laughs) If it wasn’t, they wouldn’t have made it onto the album. There were a few who didn’t qualify for the album because they simply weren’t my favorite songs. (laughs) But I think that at the moment I would probably not name the songs that were on my EP last year, but the new songs that the fans are listening to for the first time, ie “Velvet”, “Love Don’t “,” On The Moon “.
What does a perfect, good song have to have to fall into this category?
A perfect song? I don’t know, the decision shouldn’t be up to me, but for me a catchy melody that you can’t get out of your head makes a good song. A melody that you like to sing along with and that makes you move. No matter whether the groove is slow or fast, this is an extremely important element. A song that you can rock with the beat of.
A European tour is planned for August and September. What makes the live performance of your songs so special for you?
Yes, the data is still available … and for this project I’m really looking forward to performing the songs live. I am really proud of the album, I worked on it for a long time and made changes to the label and management during the development period, tried a lot to find my style … It feels like I have crossed the home straight . I love the songs and I feel incredibly comfortable that the album is finally out. The style of the songs appeals to me and I can’t wait to perform the songs I love so much live and make the sound visual. That is exactly what is so fun – breathing life into the songs.
You are known for your extraordinary voice. Which of your songs do you love to sing live?
I would probably choose “Whataya Want from Me”, my first big hit; it’s always great fun, a long-running favorite.
And which song presents you with the greatest challenge live?
My new song “Closer to you”. The middle part is extremely difficult to sing (laughs). But I love this part, it’s so soulful. When I’m through with it, I can take a deep breath.
If you look back on your career so far: what would be your personal highlights?
When I performed at the Oscars with Queen last year, it was a very meaningful experience for me, the whole evening was just exciting. The appearance with Queen on the BBC New Years Eve show a few years ago was definitely a highlight. But what I would also like to mention at this point is a statistic for which I am responsible and which I only became aware of when I had already achieved this: my second album “Trespassing” had reached number 1 on the Billboard Charts – that Special about it? I was the only openly gay singer who had done this in America. I was extremely happy when I heard about it and I am very proud of it. Another highlight was my Grammy nomination.
You recently appeared on Fire Fight Australia with Queen. You were guided by Queen’s legendary Live Aid performance. Was that a challenge for you?
We decided to play the same setlist as the Live Aid gig. We wanted to bridge the gap between the “Fire Fight Austria” call for donations and the Live Aid benefit concert. It was a great concept.
Who would you like to work with musically?
I really like what Harry Styles has been doing lately. I like his style, the influences you can hear in his music. I definitely see things in common.
In these crazy times, which songs do you like to hear to come down and find peace?
I actually woke up the other day and was worried. So I just put Bob Marley on. That always puts a smile on my face and lets me take a deep breath and relax. Happy stand music! (laughs)
What else do you like to do when you are at home?
I’m a real serial junkie. I am constantly looking for a new series and then pull it all in one day. (laughs) I have time now … (laughs)
And last but not least: we are an online magazine from Berlin. Many years ago you also lived there for a few months when you were on the road with the musical “Hair”. What are your memories of that time?
I loved living in Berlin. We always went to this one club on Potsdamer Platz, I don’t think it exists anymore… I lived very close to Nollendorfplatz. Every morning I got a coffee from the café opposite and ate my currywurst at lunchtime. (laughs)
Thank you for your time, good luck with the album and I hope that we will see you live on stage very soon. And even if it doesn’t work in August September, it will be ready sometime.
Definitely! Thank you very much.
