Aw, poor sick asif, nkd,and anyone else who came down with withdrawal sickness after such incredible Adam awesomeness. I remember that lots of us were very sick after the Queen/Adam shows in London. Please take care of yourselves and get better soon.
I am so glad for all of you who were able to get to this fabulous show. I did actually think about looking for an excuse to get to the States this winter so that I could go to Winstar, but family concerns are keeping me here…..and besides, I have houseguests from Toronto, so there is no way I could have come anyway. It really was just wishful thinking after all. Smile

    Haha – this looks familiar

  4. riskylady says:

In the theater, the distinctive arrangement with the strong drumbeat and guitar theme was more apparent than in the videos (of Mad World), and I think the TALC vid captures it more than riddle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mqp4nfWN_s
Pay attention around 1:02 when the guitar theme kicks in. It had a very exotic and strong vibe and was really arresting. I noticed his facial expressions – he was really zoned into it and nodding slightly to the drumbeat. Bet he had some input into the arrangement.
Same was true of Chokehold – seemed much stronger in the theater, really grabbed us.
Will post this on the concert thread too.

    OK, warning: Recap ahead……..

Listening to DancyGeorgia02’s Cloud concert recording as I write and it is REALLY GOOD!! Picks up the band more than the videos, for a more whole sound. MW sounds really fabulous here. There is a download in one of the comments too.

Just briefly, setting the scene. We flew into Dallas/Ft.Worth, arriving about 1 p.m. on the 30th. Not a cloud in the sky BUT 30 minutes before landing went through about 12 minutes of terrible turbulence, so I aged 10 years right then and there. Later confirmed with little dutchess and the Duke who flew in an hour before us that they experienced the same, but going through a dark cloud. Whew!

Anyway, spent the next 24 hours with our lovely hostess aely and her Dad who we met in Finland, enjoying a delicious dinner at a Turkish restaurant and great conversation. Dad is very well-traveled and has lots of great stories. Plus, we discovered we are all TV addicts of many of the same shows (with emphasis on the word MANY).
That night began the indoctrination of riskyhubby into the realm of Queen (there was also more wine), and continued the next morning with the life of Freddie Mercury. Ended with all of us in tears. She has a lovely apartment situated in a cozy, village-like setting with deli, Italian restaurant, etc. and cobblestone streets next to a lake.

About 2 p.m. we left for the Hampton Inn, arriving just in time to find our welcoming committee assembled in the lobby, consisting of nkd, adamized, retjenny and little dutchess. Awwww, guys Grin
We all got ready and left for the Casino about 4:30 p.m. WOW! The place is impressive, HUGE HUGE HUGE. The buildings outside are designed to mimic English, Italian, etc. architecture. Inside, a European theme with sections called Rome, Vienna, London, Paris, etc. with mini-monuments from each country. We decided to eat dinner at a pub in the English area so nkd, aely, adamized, TexasWannaHoldEm, riskyhubby and I chowed on fish-and-chips and burgers and beer. Then went to pick up tickets, and I went shopping.
The gift shop was about a quarter mile from our restaurant, and was out of the item I wanted. They directed me to the next one and when I asked how far it was the shopgirl replied with a straight face, “About a quarter mile.” NOT KIDDING, the place is HUGE. It is the largest casino in the world now. So hubby and I walked one mile round trip, but got our item LOL.

On our journey, ran into PaulaCoots, colligahou. tchrsd and OvationImpact at various points.
As “smoking allowed” Casinos go, you could smell the smoke but it wasn’t nearly as bad as the Florida casinos were. They had fans and ventilators going, air was circulating, and smoking was not allowed in the actual theater (even though of course some wafted in through the open doors, but it was quite tolerable overall).

First, I was quite surprised by the actual venue. Somehow, everyone kept describing it as rows of chairs in a cavernous room. I pictured those horrible metal chairs on a concrete floor LOL. In actuality, the chairs are nice padded ones, the room is carpeted and has great high ceilings with acoustic tiles and dark walls. GREAT acoustics.
I bought tickets in the back section which is on risers, so I could see over the heads of everyone in the flat front sections, and I’m glad I did. Could see perfectly, plus the sound was wonderful. Plenty of jumbotron screens scattered around too, and a drinks cart over to the left side.
Place filled up slowly, continuing even about 15 mins into the concert. Not sold out, but a nice sized crowd – maybe 2,800 or so. Everyone had glowsticks of all shapes and colors, and the venue also gave out NYE hats, tiaras and silver beads. Lots of sparkly outfits everywhere, people were nicely turned out for our BB.

    Now, the concert.
Started about 8:30 or so, with IIHY. The band was very nicely dressed up in black, Ashley looked amazing in her sexy but simple little black dress with rose-patterned stockings and Rick in a nice white long-sleeved shirt. When Adam came out in his sparkly black jacket over white shirt, he looked stunning! I was so impressed that he dressed up for us (can’t remember what he wore in Bali last year, but it wasn’t this dressy).

Basically, I just basked in the first six songs, just letting the voice and music wash over me. Like settling in to a long, warm, cozy bath. Soooooooo goooooood. God, his voice should be patented and sold as a balm for troubled souls. Pure pleasure, no other way to describe it.
He was in OPTIMUM voice, and the band was very very tight. Someone who was around for it told us they had a THREE-HOUR soundcheck/rehearsal. And it showed.

I confess, I like the band. I love that none of them compete with Adam for the spotlight, and they all look happy to be there. Yes, Tommy doesn’t smile a lot, but that’s his way. His playing has improved so much! I love that he plays his solos but doesn’t try to TAKE OVER the song; instead, he enhances it. Brian hardly sang at all (must have gotten some word) and there were new arrangements of some songs, with different drums and guitar work. Overall, well done!

The first song that woke me out of my trance of joy was Chokehold. Wow. Much more base, drums, and Adam sang it with lots of passion. Mad World followed, with that amazing arrangement. Loved loved loved it, it sounded so special. The expression on his face was pure nirvana. You can tell in the TALC video, lots of closeups.
With OOL, he did a few more than usual lines before going into the reggae, really beautiful.

LMD is easily hubby’s favorite, and it was FABULOUS! The crowd went batshit crazy, bouncing and dancing, and continued with Kickin’ In. Just YUM!!!!! When he took that jacket off, gaaaaaahhhhh – that shirt really enhances his broad shoulders and narrow waist and hips. Then, there was the squatting dance, which was eye-popping to say the least!

After Trespassing, I expected Dragon Attack/WWRY, and when he announced a “fun” Hendrix song, I had no idea what it would be.
Then Tommy launched into a blues riff, and I swear, I just about lost it. Goosebumps! I cannot describe to you how this EPIC blues song got into that setlist, but it was…..soul-stirring….hard to put into words. The audience was mesmerized and swept into the emotion that was literally DRIPPING off that stage.
BTW, NOW THAT I HAVE LISTENED TO THE ENTIRE SOUNDCLOUS, GET IT!!! IT SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE THE CONCERT, PERFECTLY BLENDED!!!!
Then, we did get DA/WWRY and Shady, and a fabulous rendition of AYGGMW as an encore.

Total length of concert, 1 hour 20 minutes (per the Soundcloud) with really NO wasted time. It was almost identical to the Train concert the next night, and felt satisfying. I think it was PLENTY (and you know what that means). IMHO.
Adam is so engaging, and his sweetness is so apparent even from up on stage, and yet the sexiness is there too. The audience was great, totally engaged, whooping and bouncing when required.
There was a little brouhaha with security about videoing and he went into a 2 minute riff about it.
The next night, tchrsd and ovationimpact were going to ask why they didn’t bother the Train fans about it.

After the concert, my phone died. We attempted to go to the after-party with passes that floridagirl was kind enough to give us, but it was packed and they were only letting people in one-by-one as others departed, so we gave up and went down to the Casino Hotel tower and new, very lovely 24-hour restaurant and had snacks and drinks with retjenny, mrretjenny, little dutchess, and the Duke.

Next morning, everyone slept in. About noon, people started appearing and leaving – aely, adamized, nkd all left for Dallas. Texas lived nearby, so was already home. floridagirl, Margie32127, tchrsd and OvationImpact were at the Casino Hotel.
The latter two ended up sitting behind us at the Train concert that night LOL. It was a good show, lots of singing along by their fans, and also filled up a little as the concert started. Had dinner at Cracker Barrel beforehand, and the next morning we all departed.
Very very fun time, and one more great concert under my belt.
    When is the next one???????????
    Hope this isn’t too boring……

  20. luval says:

Riskylady…not boring at all!!! Am so so happy you got an amazing show. Love your recap. Love all recaps. Watching the videos the next day I almost felt like I was there. Of course your recaps make us feel like we were there too. And I agree about the band. Excellent! Have sent Red House to anyone I know.

By the way…I could never see his shoes in any of the videos. Not that it is important but what was he wearing?

And like you waiting to see what is next.

  21. ultimathule says:

Some sorta thick-soled shoes. Can see them in certain vids.

  22. ultimathule says:

Love your recap, riskylady – so happy you were there to hear that epic Red House – the audience reaction in the vids was just so wonderful to hear. DL’d the soundcloud – great to listen to the concert as it actually happened. Now there’s such a wealth of riches from all the vids that have come in it’s difficult to choose which one(s) I like the best. Hard work, I know – lol.

  23. luval says:

Can someone re-post the soundcloud? Thanks!!!!

  24. riskylady says:

Thanks, guys. luval, the soundcloud link is posted above at the top, just above the videos.
In the comments section under the soundcloud, there is a link in one comment for a mediafire download. When you click that, the concert is the first one on the list that comes up, and you just click on the down arrow to the right.

  26. milwlovesadam says:

Well, let’s not forget Napa. Shall we??

Maybe Red House ties it all up. Even stevens.

So, since a Best of list and videos has already been done, what other “Best Of” ideas do we have?

    Best suit and slacks?
    Best accessories?
    Best shoes?

    Best vocal runs?

Or, how about most sexy, most fierce performances ever?

We could work on a “Best of the Past (almost 5 Years ).”

I’ll start working on it…it’s a tough job. But, somebody’s gotta do it.

I suppose I could allow somebody else to help.

Well, with this cold snap, we all could use some heat…

  27. Calgary says:

  32. mmm222 says:

riskylady- Thanks for the great recap! It captured the concert beautifully for all of us who weren’t there. You confirmed my impression from the videos, that all of the elements: the acoustics, sound mix, Adam’s stellar voice, and the band came together perfectly in this concert. I downloaded it and made a CD for my car, where I surround myself with that voice wherever I go.

  34. riskylady says:

Calgary, this from Nkd Back on page 3:

The jacket is the one he wore as fashion correspondent for ET at the Grammys in 2010. At least I think it was 2010.
It looked so great minus the Col. Sanders tie!

Thanks everyone for the recaps, it is so much fun to read everyone’s experience.

  37. little dutchess says:

Sorry to hear that asif and nkd are feeling poorly after this concert. No fun. That smoky environment at the casino certainly didn’t help. Be well soon, guys.
Asif so sorry we didn’t meet up at WinStar. When retjenny told me about her mystery phone call I knew it was you and that you’d gotten her number from the planning thread where she’d left it for me.
We would have had fun meeting up and sharing this special time. BUt you did what you felt you had to do. So…next time, my dear!

  38. little dutchess says:

Riskylady Absolutely loved your recap; couldn’t add to it. I already said a few pages ago that the show was “perfect”. Adam was perfect and the band followed his lead. They were tight and really good together again. It made such a difference and the “new music” just put this show over the top. And the re-emergence of “Mad World” in a new style shows how talented and creative our boy is. you know…another day another way!
So glad I got to go and so happy to have shared this with so many of you. Yes,part of the fun is being with fellow glamberts from our ALL group. What a way to start the NEW Year!

  39. turquoisewaters says:

riskylady: thanks so much for the recap. It’s so hard to describe a visceral experience, but I can tell this one was very special. I am so glad you and your husband got to experience this live. (Thankfully there is lots of good video for the rest of us.)

  40. nkd says:

Is it the same jacket? Here is a pic to compare. I think nkd nailed it again.

Why do you all still doubt me? Wink Laugh Kiss

Thank you all for the concern. It’s been an awful few days. I’ve had the flu with temps of 102-104 the past couple of days and am fianlly out of bed today. I hope dear asif doesn’t have the same.

Thank you for the wonderful recap riskylady. It was definitely up there with the best Adam concerts I’ve attended.

luval, that gal has it right. So very right. She expresses it so well. Thanks for sharing.

I need a close up fix. So do a lot of us. It’s been a year and a half for me. Gah.

  44. ultimathule says:

Just a sweet and wonderful recap, luval – happy that her experience was all that she had hoped for – and more. Interesting about Adam’s face being more “angular” than expected – apparently his face now even more striking with this loss of “baby fat.”

  45. glambotgram says:

nkd no doubt here, I am glad you are feeling better.

  46. cwm says:

Awwww nkd I’m sorry to hear that you were so sick! But I’m very glad to hear that you are feeling better now and able to get back into the fray.

Still looking forward to a WinStar recap from you and adamized! Would love to hear about y’all’s shenanigans! (I’m just sorry that I wasn’t there to shenanigan with you. [is that a verb? teehee]) Party Drink Music Note Dance

  47. cwm says:

I looooove that recap from Marisa (the Adam virgin from Sao Paulo, Brazil). Beautiful sentiments, beautifully expressed. She really captured the essence of the magic of seeing Adam live.

    This is my favorite part:

…He has a gift. He can see things no one else can, do things no one else can, hear things no one else can. It’s like he has the music inside of him. All music. Everytime he tries something new, all he has to do is go inside and pick what he wants, because it’s all there. It’s amazing, and it’s almost too much. There’s so much music, so much joy, so much love, so much sexiness inside of him, that sometimes he just has to laugh it off. He knows it’s ridiculous, because no one can be like that, and yet he is.

Right now, he could be singing operas, doing musicals, improvising in exclusive jazz clubs. Because we’re the luckiest bitches in the world, he chose pop music. And because we’re so fucking lucky, he’s growing right in front of us. I don’t think we have seen half of what Adam can do. Hell, I don’t think Adam has seen half of what Adam can do. The best is yet to come, and I’ve seen it, because it’s already there, inside of him…

  48. cwm says:

riskylady – thank you so much for your detailed recap! Looooved it! You really helped us feel like we were there. It makes me so happy when Adam has a awesome show like this and we have a bunch of ALLers there to enjoy it together and share the joy and the stories with the rest of us. Between the great vids and pics from TALC and riddle06 et al., and your loving, detailed recaps, it’s the next best thing to being there.

(Although, I know, I know, the videos just cannot do his voice and the experience justice…)

    Heart Heart Heart

  49. adamized says:

riskylady great recap. I’ve just dragged myself out of bed after nearly two straight days of trying to sleep through the flu. Bad germs out there folks.
cwm thank you for sharing Maris’a recap with us. She puts into words what I feel about Adam and his amazing gifts.
    mmm222

That shirt looks sooo much better partially unbuttoned. Actually, virtually all of his shirts look far better partially unbuttoned.

    So true!!!
I loved that Adam and his band put some time and energy into creating something special for us. I appreciated the new arrangements and the addition of Red House. We went nuts when we realized we were getting a new song and OMG it was something special. Tommy’s playing was top notch. I hope that they keep exploring new avenues.
I also appreciated that Adam dressed up for us. I think he made it all of five minutes before he undid some buttons and then as the night progressed he taunted us with his “strip tease”. I don’t know how he can make taking a jacket off look so damn sexy. I loved how he kept playing with it (and us) the entire night. He is so toned that he spent most of the evening pulling up his pants and trying to keep his shirt tucked in. I think that outfit could have benefited from some tight black jeans (iheart ones???)
He looked so happy. He radiates confidence and humor and happiness and sexiness and…………
The highlights for me above and beyond seeing our boy was having the chance to spend some time with our extended ALL family. I mentioned to luval that going to an Adam concert feels like a family reunion. I finally got to meet Texas and have the chance to see a bit of Texas. nkd and I spent a day in downtown Dallas and an overnight at an historic hotel within walking distance of the book depository and grassy knoll. Our hotel package included tickets to the 6th floor museum. I don’t think I learned anything new there but for younger folks who may not have been immersed in Kennedy history it probably is well worth the visit.
nkd and I went out for some Mexican food before she took me to the airport. My first time eating a stuffed fried avocado.
If it wasn’t for this crappy flu that many of us seem to have taken home with us I would say it was a perfect trip. Oh well, I guess you get the good with the bad.
    Back to bed for me.

  50. firstimerob says:

Thank you all for the recaps, videos, photo’s, yes almost like being there.
I am eating humble pie for being so negative about the band before these last two concerts. They really practice and corrected all the flaws I picked up prior and what a difference. Do you think they listen to us? Question Red House blew my mind for one but the big difference is in the old songs new sounds.

Thanks again for all who were there and shared our wonderful Adam. Can’t wait for what gifts we will experience in 2014.
