Updated the post with a few new videos and article/photo links. Thanks for bringing them here, makes my job easy.

Later on I’ll look for videos of the CHIC songs, I think those would be cool to have linked on this thread as well.

That said, I will say again that my wish is that we would refrain from spending time and energy here dissecting and complaining about what happens or doesn’t happen at MJs.

That is my wish as well.

Those professional photos on adam pictures are just gorgrous, all of them, he looked just perfect, and no 29, where he’s bending looking into the camera, the best photo for a very long time, definitely a contender for photo at the top of the next thread, just stunning.

  28. Kradamour says:

    Hi peeps!
Got home last night very late – train from nyc to Baltimore then drive to Richmond to check in with son then drive to Norfolk then brush teeth and race to be 1 1/2 hours late for a party then fall into bed. I promise that we haven’t forgotten our obligation to virtually bring everyone with us! Adamized also had an obligation until late last might. More anon!

  29. nkd says:

    We haven’t forgotten, I promise!
It was a great couple of days in NYC with wonderful friends.
I got home about 8:30 last night after stopping for a Mexican dinner with mr.nkd. It was 70ish here and it felt so good! I am not a cold weather girl, and it was very cold in NY.

We shopped, we ate, we saw a one of a kind concert! Details later! Kiss

  30. adamized says:

So sorry for the delay. Didn’t get home till after midnight last night and tho I peaked in this morning my dog has been very very needy. Actually I am typing this with two paws in my lap and a very wet tongue on my face. Pardon the drool.
Krad will of course embellish this recap with her own wonderful details but I will do my best since I find myself the first one at the table.
As nkd stated the weather in NY was quite brisk. Though we knew that we were going to be seated up in the peanut gallery we thought we should show some respect for the term “gala” and the price of our tickets by dressing for the occasion. This meant uncomfortable shoes for the long walk to the venue and a little less bulky black attire than our normal day wear. Well, to make a long story short we should not have bothered. The balcony was made up of folks dressed in mostly blue jeans and tshirts. Some folks did look like they tried to throw in a bit of glam, but all in all not a fancy looking group. We were all surprised that the balcony was only about a third full.
Pro side of being in the balcony was our great view. Con side was the long hike up and the feeling that we were sort of an after thought to what was a high scale charity event. During the evening their would be shout outs to us Glamberts in the balcony. I don’t mind Adam calling us Glamberts or members of the Glamily using that term but it was a little wierd having folks like Montel Williams urging us Glamberts to chip in $100 a piece to make a $10,000 contribution. Anyway onto the important part.>>>>>
Adam and Sam’s table was immediately in front of the stage so I couldn’t help but focus my binoculars that way just to see what was happening. So, what did we get to see? (yes, I shared my binoculars). Well, I saw Sam stroking the beard of the fellow sitting next to him. I saw Adam eat a few bites of food before he was led away. Imagine he eats!!! We saw Adam being a wonderful listener to the teen global leaders stories…
The true gala attendees were a mix of Nile’s wealthy connections; folks that had been associated with the charity; and yes some of our more well heeled glamberts. We felt the many of the attendees didn’t know Adam and therefore had no idea what the hoopla was about.
Adam, Sam, and Nile had such a wonderful time with eachother. They didn’t even seem to mind when Sam’s mike wasn’t on during the beginnin of Let’s Dance. Adam gave Sam and Nile lots of room to do their thing and made his parts mesh but at the same time really shine. I loved the energy they shared and especially loved Shady and Trespassing. I don’t think I have enjoyed a version of Trespassing more. I really wish he could have a do over and re-record those two songs with the type of orchestration Nile brought during the live performance.
I’m going to end here and let my travel partners make up for my large gaps. Before I go I wanted to let you all know that you were thought about by each of us. We kept talking about
how much we owe Adam. Without him we would not have found eachother and certainly would not have new friends all over the world.

  31. milwlovesadam says:

Adamized, thanks so much for your recap. Loved it. I give you props for even trying to be Glam in the cold. Out here, it’s all about warm feet!

Now, hmmm, where are the rest of the gals….?

  32. rs says:

Thanks for the recap adamized. Funny about the balcony being only one third full. We were under the impression that it was just about sold out. Were they all Adam fans up there?

  33. dcglam says:

Loved your recap, adamized! Thank you for “telling it like it is” as well as for sharing your thoughts and feelings with us.

I don’t mind Adam calling us Glamberts or members of the Glamily using that term but it was a little wierd having folks like Montel Williams urging us Glamberts to chip in $100 a piece to make a $10,000 contribution.

I have to say that I shared those exact same feelings during the live stream of that part of the evening — a bit uncomfortable. I was happy when the “show” finally began.

Without him we would not have found eachother and certainly would not have new friends all over the world.

    Ditto…. Blowing Kisses

  34. luval says:

Thanks for the recap, Adamized. Have to tell you I cringed listening to Montel Williams. Was Adam there to hear this? Montel sounded very angry and I wanted to say “shut the f**k up”!!!

  35. milwlovesadam says:

Guys, guys, guys, I’ve been to fundraisers where the guests were “strong-armed” worse than Montel did. Yes, it always makes me cringe, but, I have seen the emcee literally “force” well-heeled people into writing checks on the spot for very large amounts.

I’m never comfortable seeing these tactics, but, to an extent, they do work. As for me, my ticket is usually all I can afford. Sometimes I try the silent auction, and never win, because there is always someone who can outbid me.

But, as I’m sure many of you can agree by the things you do too, I volunteer my time, versus writing a check. Virtually all organizations need both kinds of help.

  36. mmm222 says:

Last night I was way too tired to write a coherent recap. After all, running around NYC in the freezing cold, sampling or drooling over wonderful NY pastries and other food treats on every corner takes a lot of energy. So here goes…

Nkd booked us at the Hilton Garden Inn at 35th St near Broadway. We had a perfect view of the Empire State Building from our 2 rooms. We got very explicit instructions from the Gala by email about the logistics of getting into the venue and being seated so we wouldn’t disturb the main event. Our seats were GA, but we were not permitted to line up before 7:30 PM. At 8 PM we were taken in to the 2nd balcony in small groups. The Gala program had probably just started when we arrived. The dinners hadn’t been served yet. There were plenty of seats in the balcony. We were in the 3rd row center and had a great view. The program consisted of 12-15 teenagers talking briefly about what they had done as WAFF ambassadors. Then came some awards, followed by the auction. The auction was for high ticket items. They did auction off a 24″x24″ photo of the buyer with Adam. Nile wanted the bidding to start at $5000, but the other auctioneer placed it at $3000. Of course, most of the Glamberts were in the peanut gallery and in no position to spend that kind of money, which for some strange reason seemed to surprise the high rollers on the main floor. Fortunately, someone made the bid, and saved face for the rest of us. And yes, Montel Williams was obnoxious, although I wouldn’t say he came across as angry in person. In his defense, there was a lot of talking going on at the tables at that point. On the other hand, the Glamberts in the upper balcony had been instructed to behave, so we were quiet and respectful. Then came Adam’s award and his little speech. He was breathtakingly gorgeous, charming, articulate, etc., reminding me yet again why I am so in love with this man.

Then at 9:30 PM, the two hour concert began. Nile’s band, Chic, played for the entire concert. It consisted of Nile, another guitarist, 2 drummers, 2 key board players, a trumpet, and a saxophone. There were also 3 vocalists. The band was really excellent and the acoustics for the venue were great. First came Taylor Daynes who sang 3 or 4 songs. She had a nice, big voice, but a somewhat dated sound, making me impatient for Adam. Then came Adam! It was truly magical seeing Adam, Sam and Nile performing together on stage. There was so much energy and joy, and they sounded incredible. Adam was at his best: charming, charismatic, sexy moves, and flawless vocals! Sam Sparro was adorable and obviously having a great time. “Shady” was beyond description…just amazing. I especially loved the new section toward the end. It added another dimension to the song and made it even better. I wasn’t crazy about WWFM. My favorite version of WWFM is the Berlin acoustic version. So, having a band this size do the instrumentals for this song was a bit much for me. Krads and nkd said they liked it because they’re so over WWFM that they liked this almost unrecognizable (to me) version of it. “Trespassing”, on the other hand, was perfect and fierce. It was my favorite version ever, thanks to the fabulous band. Also, Chic’s three talented vocalists were the back up singers for Adam’s portion of the concert. Although Adam always sounds great, having a highly professional, cohesive band and back up singers really does make a difference. (Enough said about that.) After Adam, Chic played some disco and other music for almost an hour. There were lots of instrumentals. At one point, 2 other black singers came out and sang with them. The finale was Sister Sledge singing “We Are Family” on the stage with the rest of the performers and some of the audience. She has a beautiful, rich voice and sounded great! Sam was there, but strangely, no Adam. We kept thinking he’d perform again toward the end, but he didn’t. But that was okay, the performance that we did see was so wonderful that it didn’t matter.

We had a late breakfast on Friday at a typical New York corner diner and then headed down to 25th Street to go to high end thrift shops and flea market antique shops. We also spent time in a vintage clothing store with some gorgeous dresses and accessories, some of them museum pieces or only for rent by the theater and film industry. We tried to have afternoon tea at a tea shop in Greenwich Village, but couldn’t get seated. So we headed to an Italian bakery with table service and had the best lunch ever of tea, cheesecake and pastries. Really, fruit topped cheesecake with cannoli for dessert is a well balanced meal! Then the three decadent members of the group took a taxi the 30 blocks back to hotel and drank hot chocolate while lounging on the beds in one of our rooms. The 4th person (our lovely, energetic Krads) walked back at top speed in the freezing cold. We had a late dinner at a wonderful French restaurant in the theater district. I had the best escargot appetizer in a garlic butter sauce. Yum! I shared one with Krads and it met her approval. We all headed home on Saturday. Adamized and I had time to walk back to 25th Street for a special weekend flea market before our train. We didn’t buy anything, but it was fun to look at all the treasures and/or junk.

We made the trip to NYC to see Adam perform with Sam and Nile, and it was well worth the effort. But the time I spent with nkd, adamized and Kradamour was equally wonderful. Thanks to Adam for bringing all of us at ALL together.

  37. Kradamour says:

Just for a minute, popping in to defend Montel. Didn’t see the livestream (obviously) but it seems as though it made Montel look bad.
    Au contraire.
The auction was not going well, and there was sometimes even some confusion about what exactly was being bid on and where the bidding was going. Even from the peanut gallery, you could just feel the energy in the room evaporating, and Montel did exactly the right thing to keep the auction going. Strong-arm? Hardly. He was only asking for a few thousand dollars, and this crowd could pony up if they wanted to.
Montel is a prior or present board member (don’t remember) and he was doing what was needed. Nile clearly didn’t like being upstaged, though.
Overall the auction was something of a hot mess. I wasn’t impressed. There was definitely money left on the table.
    IMHO

  38. turquoisewaters says:

Thanks for the recaps, adamized and mmm222. Hoping to hear a bit more from you, krad , once you recover. I love the video of Shady so much, it seems like that performance alone was worth the trip. And as you say, any concert experience is so much more fun with some lovely like-minded company.

  39. Kradamour says:

Hoping to hear a bit more from you, krad

Def planning to write a few pages a bit more tomorrow!
    Wink

  40. dcglam says:

I loved your detailed recap, mmm222! Clearly, the Italian bakery lunch was to die for — loved the pic! Shopping and eating are always main attractions for a New York getaway, second to a Mr. Adam Lambert (of course). Wink
Thank you for vicariously bringing me along with you. Heart

Kradamour… Thanks for your take on that “hot mess” of an auction. Even from the live stream I could tell it was not going well. Frown

  41. riskylady says:

I have a question. I listened to the live stream, but sometimes the talking wasn’t clear, and mostly it wasn’t streamed anyway. At any point during the evening did they mention the Glamberts’ contributions for Adam’s birthday? I thought it was a little off-putting when Montel was harangueing Glamberts after everyone had been contributing already for a few days. I think at that point we were up to $43-$44k, plus a number like you flew there from out of town and also bought tickets. I sort of think that might have made Adam a little uncomfortable, too.
ETA: Btw, thanks for the wonderful recaps! That’s my favorite Trespassing too, such a full sound, and Shady was all kinds of brilliant with that sample Adam threw in – he is so smart that way. His voice and dancing in Let’s Dance was just dreamy, such a slow seductive jam. Sounds like you had a really special time.

  42. dcglam says:

I was wondering the exact same thing, riskylady.

  43. adamized says:

rs my guess is that the folks in the balcony were all there to see Adam but there may have been Nile fans there as well. No one left after Adam’s part was over so there certainly could have been a mix. I really think that the balcony tickets were an afterthought but who knows. The original headliner for the event was supposed to be Sting. He probably has lots of fans that would have enjoyed seeing the event without paying the table prices.
My feelings about being referred to as Glamberts weren’t only directed at Montel. It was more of a feeling I got from all of the speakers whom mentioned us(with the exception of Adam). I’m having a hard time putting it into words but it was like being seen as a cult. A bit creepy. And no, they never mentioned the donations.

  44. Kradamour says:

rs, I agree with adamized, re the references to the glamberts in the balcony. I really felt a little like a circus act, it wasn’t quite but almost was demeaning and I really felt that we were made out to be somehow “different” from the “real” attendees who had bought dinner tickets. Hard to explain for me, too.
    Confused

ETA: and I also heard no mention of the birthday contributions.
It would also have been gracious to thank all those in attendance for the portion of their ticket that was a contribution (anything over $150 for those dining, and anything over $50 for us in the balcony).
Fortunately, the concert made up for these failings, but the overall gala experience needed some tweaking IMHO.

  45. Kradamour says:

While I am at it, here is part one of my recap…

    WAFF: January 31, 2013

Once upon a time, many years ago, I was a buyer for a chain of department stores and went almost monthly to New York to look at lines and place orders. Best.job.ever. But alas, that ended in 1982 and I haven’t been back to New York since. And the Adam sightings in the United States are getting slimmer. So when I saw that he was not only going to receive the Unity award, but also actually perform, I emailed adamized and said “Let’s go!”, forgetting that she had been there for his Cyndi Lauper gig just the previous month. Uh, oh, no answer. Where is Adamized??? Finally she replied with some nonsense about having a real life and a real engagement the evening that I sent her the email so that she wasn’t hanging on the computer and checking her email constantly and I had to hyperventilate for a little while before she replied. ..! Fortunately, she conveniently forgot that she had just been there and agreed to join me and then we added mmm222 and at the last minute (hooray!) nekkid decided to join our happy band. Alas, dcglam wasn’t able to make it, nor was ulti, but the Maryland contingent was well-represented. (dcglam is an honorary Marylander, a very high honor, indeed!) (And nekkid’s family goes back to Maryland, so she is also one of us.)

Yay! Bought tickets (NOT the $1500 seated VIP dinner tickets…NOT the $695 seated dinner back of the bus tickets…NOT even the $395 seated dinner who knows where and then ushered to the balcony tickets…the $100 concert only peanut gallery tickets in the balcony, tax deductible to the extent of $50 such a deal…) and found a craptastic hotel on 31st Street not far from the venue (“Hotel 31”, very aptly named) and adamized was appropriately dubious but whatever.

The plan was for me to drive to Baltimore, stay overnight with Adamized, and then take the train together to Penn Station. Mmm222 would have to join us later, she had to work in the morning, but still arrive in plenty of time for us to put on our fancy duds (“chic and hip” dress, said the website) and mosey over to the venue for a 7h30 get-in-line time. Ditto for nekkid who was flying from Texas a.k.a the end of the world, west of the Mississippi, at least I think it is. (hehe, totally getting into the mindset of the effete northeast-coaster now, thinking of that old New Yorker magazine cover showing Manhattan as a huge part of the US and the rest of the US as vague and uninhabited…)
Nekkid wasn’t sure that she would be able to join us but took the initiative to book a couple of rooms at the Hilton just in case, and just as cheap as my craptastic hotel choice – everyone was relieved (it was not such a bad hotel, guys, just saying…) that we were going to stay at a reputable chain hotel right off of Herald Square (Macy’s!) and gotta say her choice was brilliant.

Adamized and I went online to buy our train tickets (“Julie” the fake chat person, is worthless, btw, and we struggled for about an hour to try to book the Amtrak tickets online and then gave up before calling to make the reservation. It would take a page to explain what the problem was and really you won’t care so we’ll skip that step.)

So now we have concert tickets, train tickets, and a hotel. All set! Uh, oh, here is an invitation to a Ground Hog Day party in Norfolk on Saturday night. Hmmm…okay I can still do it if I leave NYC on Saturday morning before everyone else. Gotta change my train ticket. Not easy, but I manage. While we are at it, maybe adamized and I would rather sleep a little bit later on Thursday and take a somewhat later train. Yes. Okay, gotta change that ticket. Uh, oh, we lose the AAA discount because it is less than 3 days out. Whatever. “Julie” is still less than helpful. I am trying so hard to love Amtrak, and they aren’t making it easy, but I know that the ride will be awesome!

So it is Wednesday, time to drive to adamized’s house – woot! Gotta pack. I am hella bad at packing. This is taking hours. This is embarrassing. Okay, ready to go…on the road about a half hour later than I want to be. The goal is to arrive in time for adamized to provide dinner.

Oh, no! backup at the tunnel! Worse: a disabled vehicle in the tunnel! Turn off the car engine. Take a nap. Wait for the disabled vehicle to be removed. Whoa! Cars honking behind me! It seems that traffic is moving again! Hooray! But an hour lost and dinner will be really late now…but I am well rested from the nap…

Almost to adamized’s…she is a saint and has promised to wait for me for dinner. She has brought Indian food from a local restaurant…I love Indian! …but oh no! The heavens have opened and it is a DELUGE and can’t see more than a few feet ahead! We are going at a CRAWL and it is getting later and later and I am frankly a little afraid because I can’t see anything at all…but there is the turnoff for adamized’s lovely house and I am there and Daisy is licking my face (naughty dog! But totally lovable) and the kitchen smells of spices and it is all good. Yum!

After dinner, we sort out what we will take to NYC and nestle all snug in our beds, with visions of glambulges Adam dancing in our heads…
    Chic

    G’nite peeps!

Adam was not on the floor during the auction. He left with some fanfare at the beginning of the auction to “get ready.” (He didn’t change his clothes, so I’m not sure what that entailed. Maybe drinking some tea for his voice?) So, Adam wasn’t there when they were trying to get more money out of the Glamberts and everyone else in attendance. I didn’t hear any mention of the birthday donations, either.

  47. dcglam says:

And no, they never mentioned the donations.

Wow, this is very disappointing. I would have thought they would have made a big deal out of it. It certainly seemed to be a big deal to Adam and his fans.

As I recall, someone came to get Adam for that $3000 picture to be taken, so he wasn’t there during the auction.
Did he come back then and eat some more, then accept his award?
It was fun watching him eat just like a regular person, fork to the mouth fork to the plate! I think he had about three bites.

I concur, there was no mention of the birthday donations.

Thanks, ladies, and Krad for the tantalizing recap. Waiting to hear about the dancing glambulge Adam. Actually, it did seem that the GB was pretty present and caused much discussion on Twitter about certain little nob-like impressions in the leather covering same. Ninjas speculating about a piercing, which, after some “research” I sort of concur that maybe….

Yes, disappointing about the non-mention of the donations. I guess we can’t say anything because it might reflect back to Adam and could be misinterpreted or something.

OK, OK, corner for me. Thank goodness mils has made it into such a warm, welcoming place (in her best interest, I might add LOL).
