After a well received first show, Queen and Adam play the second of two back-to-back shows at the Allphones Arena in Sydney. Apparently Lady Gaga is attending, and may be performing as well.

Enjoy the concert and the chat!

So glad you are here with us!
    Blowing Kisses

    Kradamour – Thank you Heart
    I feel the same! Kiss

Small quibble: I assume that you mean ‘marquee’ performer.
    Smile

Ah, my spell check didn’t even catch that. Yep…’marquee’ for sure. haha
Thanks for the catch, sweet Krads – I’ll update as I don’t like my misspellings (though I do it often it seems. Confused) Big Smile

I think Gaga is facing some tough & darker moments recently.
And Adam’s character & Queen’s generosity shining some brightness into her spirit just may be the most sensational act on display from Sidney #2.

Smalls, I totally agree with this. We all love Adam so much, think of him first, and are ready to jump in and defend him at the first sign of a slight, underwhelming review, or “injustice”. If we look at it the other way around- Adam is fine, confident, and generously sharing his spotlight with Queen with someone who loves them as much as he does and needs some TLC from friends right now, it just makes us love him even more, as if that was possible.

As far as his voice issues and the steps that he might have taken to deal with them, we tend here to analyze everything “Adam”, from his hair color and length to his possible hook-ups to whether he hit a specific note, down to the last tiny detail. It is part of our obsession love for him. But I think that it is important to remember that as knowledgeable as some of us are (and I for one am deeply appreciative of that and learn a great deal), this is still speculation based on fan vids or recordings taken on cell phones. None of us were backstage or know what Adam did while there. That is part of the mystery. For me, I just know that Adam has the most beautiful voice in the world universe, he loves and honors us every day by giving that voice to us, and he will do everything in his power to take care of his gift for many years to come.

Of course, I am a musical dunce who can’t carry a tune and who sees the forest of Adam’s performances rather than the trees (although I admit to cringing while watching the AMA’s). I relish in the glory notes but often can’t follow the conversations about the finer details of the differences between the concerts and have to back and try to listen again and again to get what you are talking about.(Such a hardship Wink )

  4. Kradamour says:

Re GaGa – ITA, rs And smalls.
I think that she is one of those amazing talented performers who hit too well too early in her career…what on earth does one do to follow the mega-success of Fame Monster? So far, she hasn’t been able to figure that out, and in trying to do so she has become something of a caricature of herself.
Add in some health problems (present and former), and the usual crowd of vultures who lie in wait to leap on anyone at the top who might be teetering a bit…ready to proclaim the end of a career…
Yes, she can be really self-absorbed and insensitive. But she is intellectually brilliant, musically madly talented, and seems to be beloved by the likes of Elton John and Brian Mays. Like Adam, she wears her life on her sleeve and no one needs to wonder what she really thinks.
And from our standpoint, she was generous to Adam when he needed friends in the industry.
I am on team GaGa, and wish hard for a healthy and productive future for her.

Hi Kradamour Waving what are you doing up so late (if you are like cher and haven’t gone to bed yet) or early?

  6. asmallworld says:

Adam is awesome and doing awesome. I’ve never thought otherwise. He was doing fantastic before I thought of Sydney2 and he will continue after. I’m sorry for any issue created by my speculations to anyone here, and of sounding sure of them. Smile

    Love. Heart KissRose

  7. adamized says:

asmallworld please don’t edit yourself and your speculations. Since you weren’t there, I understood that your posting was based on experience and what your ears heard. If we all limited ourselves to what we know versus what we speculate when it comes to Adam this place wouldn’t be as nearly interesting.

What I do know is that he has all of our love and best interest.

    Have a great day.

  11. asmallworld says:

Hi, HK Smile. I agree completely! STL is a beauty.
Adam sounds amazing in the Sydneys, STL, and every song on the set list.
I’m loving how he is changing up little parts in these songs – like STL.
It’s like a delightful discovery of another facet on an exquisite diamond.

It’s always just variations of greatness with the Man.

(My prior mentions were about something different. It’s all good.)

I’m enjoying the videos right along with you!
Adam never ceases to amaze me with every song he does. In Love

  12. TLKC says:

My goodness, what a lot of heavy stuff. I’ve been out-for-the count for most of this week with a terrible cold and too tired to wade in.

I hope that Adam doesn’t suffer any permanent damage to his chords because of this tour. In the end I want him working on and singing his songs for a very long time and am going to take consolation from the suggestion that fan videos aren’t the greatest source for precise analysis. I haven’t heard Sydney II beyond the Lady Gaga performance, though, so am not the best judge. It’s fair to think that, since all of the videos are taken by fans quality (albeit VERY TALENTED fans) that a discernible difference might be significant. All the talk about throat stress makes my own throat feel even more sore, LOL!

As for Gaga, I am not a particular fan of her personally but she is a talented singer and one of the biggest pop stars around, so it is kind-of great that she showed up to one of the QAL concerts and chose to sing a song WITH Adam, instead of on her own. I am sure that Adam would have been crushed if she had elected to sing something like Radio Gaga by herself.

I could have been reading too much into Adam’s tweets but his tweet telling Gaga that he was in the arena for her concert sounded a bit forlorn; as if he was kicking himself for not sitting with Bri and Roger and wanted her to know that he hadn’t chucked her show for a night-on-the-town.

Also, his little vocal tribute to Gaga in the first Sydney concert sounded a bit awkward, as if he hadn’t quite figured out how to salute her so he just dumped it in at the end of a song and then EXPLAINED it, so that there was no doubt about his feelings. He is an uber-fan/monster himself and this was a joy for him. Her flubs only made him look better and showed him to be a very generous and skilful performer.

As riskylady has said, some of Gaga’s off-stage behaviour leaves a lot to be desired but she is revered by many. Her monsters have seen the performance and will have affirmative feelings for him. Some of them will keep an eye on him and his music. It’s all good.

As luck would have it, I spent a good part of yesterday morning on twitter using my mobile due to a power outage. The Monster reaction was pretty nice. One fan called them “Sir and Lady Gaga”. Not too shabby.

asmallword: Share your thoughts always!!! If we start worrying about always being correct, perfect, and inoffensive, we can close down shop.
The only rule we have around here is: no hating on Adam or fellow posters (there must be a more articulate version of this).

  14. TLKC says:

Echoing adamized: please don’t ANYONE edit their speculations. Speculation keeps this site going. We all have our special concerns and capabilities or knowledge to share. The discussion that takes place when a concern is expressed helps to sort out feelings many of us are having.

Adam himself mentioned being on throat rest before the second leg of the tour, which clearly made a few people anxious at the time. This was a conversation waiting to happen.

  15. TLKC says:

no hating on Adam or fellow posters

Expressed perfectly turquoisewaters. It’s the thought that counts. Big Smile

  16. rs says:

TLKC, sorry about your cold and I hope that you are feeling better now. Ginger tea with lots of lemon, and cognac, if you drink alcohol, works wonders, or at least makes you feel better while the cold is running it’s course Big Smile.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that Adam was sitting with Brian and Roger at LG’s concert, but had moved aside when she gave them the shout-out so that the spotlight would just be on them.

  17. HK fan says:

Ok…now I’m confused smalls…I thought you meant it was STL thats his voice was cracking/giving way on???

another question, several people have mentioned the support that Gaga gave Adam after the AMA’s…..does anyone remember what???, I don’t remember anything, but it was just as I was getting into the internet to follow Adam so I may have missed it.

  18. HK fan says:

eta…it doesn’t sound quite as bad of this video.

  19. TLKC says:

Thanks for the advice, rs, I have been drinking lots of water but perhaps I’ll take your advice.

There was a theory that Adam had moved aside to give Brian and Roger full honours but Adam’s tweet mentioned that he moved in order to have a better view.

Don’t blame you for the confusion… lots of song references floating around with the same initials, many streams of thought on several, and two Sidneys. Silly

  27. asmallworld says:

ulti, I believe it was you that asked if Freddie ever performed with someone else on stage?

Yes, he did. It was on other turf, though and not on Queen’s stage or venues.
Freddie actually collaborated with an opera singer, Montserrat Caballé. He was a huge fan of hers and invited her to work together with him.
They wrote songs together, recorded the songs, released a single and held 2 concerts featuring those collabs.

This was separate from his Queen roles. Though their single did manage to find it’s way into Queen Greatest III album.

    It’s a fascinating story & collaboration, imo.

Two different genres collide and how they made it work with critical acclaim.
And a new genre was even formed from their merging known as ‘Rock Opera’. Big Smile

    Okay.

I’m gonna weigh in on the whole did his voice show strain or not “controversy.”
    (( Non-troversy?? ))

I am not going to advise anyone here to modify a post.

I just have a concern that there would be lurkers here who would take this concept and run with it..to the media.

I/we have all had concerns in a motherly fashion over the years about Adam and possible vocal strain. It has simply never panned out.

He has sung through colds, he has sung in wild weather changes, he has performed 114 concerts on a tour where we all thought he would damage his voice.

He has pushed himself –HARD — with QAL.

I have heard with my trained ear several slight moments on this tour where he has subtly, with nuance, adjusted certain points of certain songs in order to help and protect himself vocally, in many shows.

I highly doubt he resorted to the “big gun”, Highly.

It takes a skilled MD. ENT with experience, not just some road doc, to safely do this , MID-SHOW. With 20,000 fans waiting, and the eyes and ears of the entertainment world watching Gaga watch him perform.

Smalls, I loooove you, and your expertise regarding the vocal cord is awesome and detailed, but, I am concerned that these expert posts may fall into the wrong hands.

Also, because Brian and Roger have made so many public statements that they are singing real, organically, with no “assists “, this may be mis-interpreted and used against them in some way.

Color me cray, but who knows who reads this little blog in the fandom??

Judging by the number of hits AL and eywflyer have posted, we have way more lurkers than posters.

I am not the moderator of this blog, in any way shape or form.

Please, no throwing tomatoes, I just am posting my opinion.

I will delete this if asked to by you guys.

  34. milwlovesadam says:

And, FWIW: Adele is not a trained singer, from what I have read about here, she’s a “natural” , and this is what led to her strain and need for surgery. Same with Elton John.

Celine is highly trained, and has no excuse for her strain, except for overuse/misuse.

Freddie was not a trained singer, and he abused drugs and alcohol and smoked and misused his voice terribly. It’s amazing that his voice lasted as long as it did, quite honestly.

I am, quite frankly, glad that there were so few interviews during QAL, it gave him a chance to be quiet and protect those glorious cords.

Boy does party, though, in loud smoky clubs.

Disclaimer: Anyone who chooses do something unhelpful and unbeneficial toward Adam Lambert and/or Queen with anything posted on and from this site needs to sincerely keep life’s karma and reciprocity in mind and would be wise to not do so. I hope everyone who would ever see this site will use only good character, positive effort for Adam Lambert’s benefit, and a clear conscience.
Okay, there & said. (I hope)

    Okay on to other things:

Adele: Yup, I’m with you… she is considered a natural, and she is very gifted that way… singing “natural” & publicly since age four. She is considered to have a naturally powerful voice & her body “design”, if you will, has been known to help her enhance her singing as well.

She has also received vocal training at different points in her life, and is considered ‘technically trained’ within the industry as well as a “natural” and self-taught from extensive performance experience. Most notably, her vocal training came from the British School of the Performing Arts, where she attended. There she did received technical vocal instruction/training within various genres.

In 2011, Adele started singing lessons and training again, and employed a vocal coach for further instruction & training for improvements in technique, conditioning and in methods to protect her voice.

With you too on Freddie… like you, mils, as far as I know to date he didn’t receive any training or coaching at all, and was exclusively “self taught”.

I feel I learn so much from you wonderful folks here and the wealth of what people here bring to the table. I thoroughly enjoy our love & admiration for the Man. I think we’re a great bunch!

mils … When we meet in person (hopefully soon!) … if you ever desire to know, I’ll share involving my awareness and knows, accounts and experiences.
We’ll be caught up with the Man … so, if you don’t, that’s great, too! Grin
That’s what all this is about, anyway.

Hugs, mils… thank you for your wisdom and insight. And thank you for using it here.
    You’re a blessing … smart as a whip… and pretty damn cool.
Happy to be here and know you more. Kiss

I don’t doubt what you say at all, I just would hope to keep it private, not out there for the interwebz to see and glom on to.

Who really knows what trade secrets keep his voice so out of this world.

He talks openly about Throat Coat tea, and honey and lemon. These are standards. He chews gum on red carpets and in interviews to keep his throat moist, smart cookie.

People who had those expensive on the stage seats have tweeted about his tea and “mouthwash” being right there for him. He is seen on many vids taking swigs from bottles to keep his voice in top shape between songs.

At one of his recent shows, Sydney 1 or 2, he actually drank quite a bit of his “champagne” before spitting just a little.

    Okay. Enough.
