I love Rod Stewart! I was thinking the other day that I would love to see him before he quits. I would loved to have seen him back in the day.
And Elton, I need to see him too!

STL: watch Roger smiling and reacting to Adam’s runs at the end of the vid, around 4:30.

I just love how, as a band, they have figured out to let Adam do his thang.

Also, a big difference between Adam and Freddie to me, is that Freddie was always out in front, with his mike or on an instrument, but, more like a solo act than Adam, who interacts with Brian and Roger, and by doing what Adam does, he is more “social” on stage, and is less “solo.”

This also keeps him closer to them more of the songs.

I don’t recall seeing Freddie interacting with Brian or Roger on stage. He strutted and preened and and carried on, but all by himself.

I loved Freddie, completely, as a true performer and great talent, but, I do believe that Adam is simply a different man. Both are over the top and extremely talented, and flamboyant, and great vocalists, however, I do believe that Adam takes better care of his voice.

Freddie often performed in less than top vocal condition, and missed notes. He smoked and drank heavily. He used a lot of drugs, and it affected his voice, to the point of cancelling shows. Don’t get me wrong, he was one of the best front men of all time. Very strong voice with huge range, when he took care of it.

I think that Adam, by being a trained singer, knows how to take care of his voice. IMHO.

I saw that! I love that they are enjoying this so much.

AL Thanks for the help in changing my avi. Once I saw your instructions it all came back to me. I finally got a chance to watch all the videos and now I can’t wait for Dallas.
nkd how can I get in touch with you once we get to Dallas? We are arriving the afternoon before the concept. That’s if all the flights are on time.

and I just want to let you know how proud I am to know you!!

Thank you so much for your support. Our legal challenge is winding it’s way through the courts just like so many other cases across the country. And yes I was so proud of Wisconsin when they tossed out their ban. Of course all of them are now working on their appeals. Since we filed our lives have not been the same. We have been asked to be speakers at so many functions that keeping up with our business is difficult. We have traveled so many miles. That’s why I’m so looking forward to Dallas and Adam. We get to get away and bask in that voice. The best R&R there is!!

Thanks for the recap firstimerob. Glad to know that you were close enough to Adam to see the perspiration. I hope you have an easier time of getting to your seat tonight.

Love your MP3’s, cwm. It will be great to get some of these on the iPod. From the looks of those photo choices you love the fringey look the best. Stunning.

  13. cwm says:

It’s late, but if I don’t get this recap written, I’m afraid I won’t be able to before the LA show, so here goes…

We had a lovely pre-show dinner at a restaurant downtown with a beautiful outdoor patio. It was a gorgeous evening, perfect weather for sitting outside, and the food was great. Thanks to turquoisewaters for setting it up for us! Those in attendance included turquoisewaters of course, jlurksacto, retjenny and mr retjenny, ladybugs, reese, firsttimerob, tchrsd, ovationimpact, starthart, and additional friends not on ALL (I hope I captured all of the ALLers!).

After dinner, we walked over to the venue and got in line. The doors opened at about 6:45. My family came to the venue separately, since I didn’t have them join us at the pre-show dinner. Family in attendance were my hubby, 14-year-old son, sister-in-law, and her 23-y.o. son, 20 y.o. daughter and boyfriend, and 17-y.o. son. Eight of us in all.

Hubby and I were on the floor, right side, about 2/3 of the way back – even with the front edge of the soundbooth. We didn’t have a close-up view, but we did have a good view of the stage and the thrust/mini-stage as well as the overall gestalt. Several in our ALL group were very close up on the floor – turquoisewaters, firsttimerob, and tchrsd all had close-up floor seats and I can only imagine that their eyes were bugging out of their heads the whole time!

The show was late getting started as you know. When the show started, the curtain ended up coming down, rather going up, so maybe that had something to do with it, who knows. It also took a long time for the venue to fill up. But once the show started, it was packed to the rafters. Smile

Also, as you know by now, the reports of there being no internet connection inside the venue were false. I had no problem tweeting, and others obviously didn’t either, although a couple of times I noticed some slight delay.

The show was spectacular. Amazing. Stupendous. Gobsmacking. Having a hard time coming up with adjectives to properly describe it. I had avoided watching many videos or listening to audio prior to this show, because I wanted to be at least a little surprised. I was glad I did.

Adam was simply amazing all night long. He looked gorgeous, of course, and he sang all-out on song after song. By the end of the show I was in wonderment of how he does it without completely losing his voice by the end. I did wonder a bit during The Show Must Go On if he was starting to feel it and was trying to protect his voice just a bit, because his voice took on a slightly different character to my ears during that song, but it was very subtle and I wasn’t sure; it could have just been the sound mix. And by the encore he was back to full-out belting.

He commanded the stage with such presence, and was so engaging. He was funny and charming. The huge bra and the leopard print man panties brought lots of laughs. I love the way he caught the underwear as he was directing the singalong – they seemed to just suddenly appear in his hand. “Oh are these men’s underwear? FINALLY! Thank you, I really like them. I shall wear them as a hat.”

The audience loved him. Long, sustained, thunderous applause when Brian asked “How do you like the new boy?” And every time Adam would return to the stage after being away, he was welcomed back with loud cheering and applause. Lots of enthusiastic singing along, too. The yelling and screaming for the encore was tremendous. For most of the show, most of the audience was seated except for those of us on the floor, but everyone was on their feet for Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Bohemian Rhapsody, and the encore.

Highlights for me were: Fat Bottomed Girls, Killer Queen, Somebody To Love (which he sang spectacularly!), Who Wants to Live Forever, Under Pressure, Don’t Stop Me Now, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Bohemian Rhapsody, and the encore. Oh and The Show Must Go On, and Radio Gaga, and Another One Bites the Dust, and Love Kills, and In the Lap of the Gods, and… and… and. You get the picture. I loved every minute of it. Smile

Adam camped it up deliciously during Killer Queen and the crowd loved it. He is such a tease. It was PERFECT. The backwards spitting was very impressive! He has skillz! Brian did wander over to check out Adam’s antics during Killer Queen, which apparently surprised, and I think delighted, Adam – you can see it in their faces. In fact, there were lots of joyful, spontaneous smiles and laughter on stage throughout the show, which was a delight to witness.

Adam got lots of screen time on the big screen, although obviously it is shared among Brian and Roger as well. They did a great job of keeping the camera on Adam during all of Killer Queen so we got a great view of his theatrics throughout the whole song. Razz

Overall, the show does an excellent job of engaging the audience. Between the singalongs, Adam’s and Brian’s banter, and Brian’s guitar-cam that he turned out to capture the audience, it really brought artists and audience together. So so great.

I thought the London Q+AL shows were fantastic, fabulous shows that could not be topped, but this tour is like London x10. Just spectacular. When the show was over, I needed to sit for a bit to collect myself. I had so much emotion and energy surging through me, I was vibrating. It was such a great feeling. My hubby understood. More on that next. Smile

  14. TLKC says:

Also, a big difference between Adam and Freddie to me, is that Freddie was always out in front, with his mike or on an instrument, but, more like a solo act than Adam, who interacts with Brian and Roger, and by doing what Adam does, he is more “social” on stage, and is less “solo.”

This is the crux of the matter. I don’t know whether it’s Adam’s natural inclination or a legacy of his theatre experience but Adam cannot be around people or perform without engaging. (It’s probably both.)

Freddie and Mick Jagger (and Rod Stewart for that matter) are like black holes – they absorb all the light and energy around them and project it out. They demand attention; Adam wins it.

RE: yesterday’s discussion on swagger – I recant. In actual fact Adam has swagger and Freddie has no swagger at all. Freddie has strut. Mick Jagger has strut. They are like roosters, right down to the puffed-out chests. (I wonder if Mick Jagger influenced Freddie’s onstage persona a bit?) Rod Stewart is another one, lol.

The guy who accompanied Adam on his Trespassing radio tour said that Adam had a rare capability – to project out to the audience AND draw them in. He is doing both big time on this tour and he’s doing it as much with the band as the audience.

  15. TLKC says:

Thanks for the recap, cwm. I love reading about get-togethers and hearing everyone’s report on what it feels like to see it live.

Getting excited about tonight’s show, which will be epic, and the get-togethers in Toronto and NYC. I remember standing on the balcony of mils room after the Chicago show and being so blissed out.

How lucky we all are to have found each other. Thanks to Adam of course Big Smile

  16. cwm says:

OMG I can’t believe how long that last post was. Sorry! I’ll try to wrap this up quickly Besides, I really need to get to bed – I have another big night tonight!

After the show, hubby and I sat and visited with the couple in front of us for a bit while we all collected ourselves. They were very impressed. They spoke of friends with whom they had recently talked about Adam, who had wondered aloud whether Adam would have the stage presence to carry it off, and they were looking forward telling this friend how impressive Adam had been. The woman asked us if we had seen how great Adam was on Glee, so I think she was a bit of a Glambert already, but her husband was definitely impressed as well.

As was mine. He loved the show. We sang together in the singalongs at the top of our lungs, danced and swayed, and had a great time. Although I wouldn’t characterize him as an Adam fan per se, he is very impressed with Adam and his abilities, and thought the whole show was fantastic. He loved Adam’s theatrics in Killer Queen.

The rest of the family loved the show, too. The teens and young adults had a lot of fun and were blown away by it. Even my 14-year-old son, who like most 14-year-old boys rarely says anything but a grunt, smiled broadly and said “That was good!” LOL

One more thing I want to share before I sign off.

After we got home from the show, I went through the photos on my phone and tweeted out a few. (Thanks for the shoutout up top, eywflyer! Smile ) When I was almost done posting pics and catching up on twitter, I saw Adam’s tweet thanking San Jose and saying that it had been so much fun. I responded to Adam, and tagged @DrBrianMay and @QueenWillRock, heaping praise on the show – I said the show was stupendous, that I loved every minute of it, and I thanked them for bringing so much joy to so many. About 20 minutes later (at about 2:30am I think), I got a notification that Brian had favorited my tweet! I was so excited and touched by that – I knew that he had seen my tweet and appreciated what I said enough to favorite it. Awwww! I love that man! Actually, I have a great deal of respect, admiration, and affection for Brian. He just seems like a truly exceptional human being and I love that he saw and appreciated what I said.

Ok – that’s all I got! Next up: the LA Forum! Big Smile

I have been busy all day packing and getting organized for my trip and haven’t let myself look at the vids from SJ. I just watched STL……That bit near he end when his fringe thingy slips down revealing his shoulders is the sexiest thing I have ever seen in my life, more so than any strip show could ever be. Ok picking myself off the ground. Just want to read cwm’s recap and then back to work.

  19. ultimathule says:

So much fun reading your recaps, cwm – and what must have been so great for you is that your family is right there with you – just makes it even more special.

CWM I am sooooo impressed that you have time and energy to write such a great recap.

The only thing I can add is there were 3 more at our fun, fun dinner party! tothebeat and her hubby and jlurks’ cousin, Nola!

From where we were sitting at the concert we could see you. We were sitting with Jlurks and his cousin and we said, it looks like Carol is sitting by herself. Little did we know that you were surround by your family. But we did see you dancing away!

  23. firstimerob says:

I just listen to the videos and the sound of the first two songs is not what I heard. I am so relieved. You guys must of thought not only can I not walk so good I can’t hear also.
The opening jackets leather is so beautiful it moves in a soft flow as Adam moves I would have love to touch it (WITH HIM IN IT) wanted to so badly. Another thing being so close is seeing Adam from head to toe, his moves OMG I had no idea he did so many Elvis pelvis moves, in video’s we see most of his top half to catch that beautiful face whats going on waist down WOW…….
So happy have to met you all before the concert and thanks again for putting dinner together.
Will see some of you tonight and get another perspective especially since I am taking my daughter who likes Adam and has bought some of his music by no means a Glambert.

  25. cwm says:

retjenny – thanks for adding those I inadvertently left out of my list! I’m sorry Tothebeat! I knew I was forgetting somebody!

Also, to clarify – only my husband and I had tickets on the floor – he was the tall, handsome hunk next to me on my right. Smile The rest of the family was up and back in sections 103 and 106. We were all split up because in the ticket buying frenzy, I couldn’t find any more than four seats together at a time.

rs – yes, yes, Somebody To Love was spectacular in every way imaginable. Not only his voice, but his presence, his moves, and yes, his sleeves. LOL. I noticed the fringe sleeves dropping down his shoulders (how could you not?) and wondered aloud what he might do about it, but he just let them ride halfway down his arms. Which was awesome. Razz

cwm What a great concert re-cap!!!!! Particularly nice to read after that toffee-nosed reviewer’s comments about Adam’s voice being ‘bland’ – grrrrr, and all the observations about the audience sitting, not standing. It was just so good to hear from someone who was actually there for the entire concert, unlike the reviewer.

How great is it that Brian read your lovely comments on Twitter too! Those guys deserve so many accolades for giving us such great entertainment and their joy makes us all so happy too! Thank-you for doing that for them and for us Rose Rose Rose .

    Hi all-
I am trying to get ready for my trip to Vegas tomorrow AM and have read very little of this thread nor have I watches/heard anything other than STL. mils I loved your thoughts and insight in comparing Freddie and Adam and I so agree…never could quite put my finger on it.
cwm I just read 1st part of your recap and am just getting into your family’s reactions etc. your recap put ME in San Jose (especially having just watched SJC.) It was wonderful and I’m so psyched! I was at Chicago and saw this show…but each nite he gets betterer and betterer. “Another day, another way”(to a degree)as the duke and I frequently say. So far, I agree with what I’ve heard that San Jose was one of the best shows (we know they are all great but…) ..oh except for that weird review from that guy. Tonight should be unbelievable and those of you there probably won’t be able to stand by the end you’ll be so weak in the knees.
It will be interesting to see how they change it up in Vegas due to no thrust and smaller stage. This is all so exciting I can barely talk or think.

  36. ultimathule says:
