    Gonna call it a night. Didnt even go to the concert and im totally exhausted just sitting in front of my laptop lol finally crashing after meds and high. Yay me.

    Amidst lights, smoke bombs, handclaps and several rock was a return fireworks that of Queen, tonight at the Mediolanum Forum Assago performing with the American Adam Lambert in the only Italian date of their world tour. To the tune of ‘One Vision’ the figure of the singer and former contestant on ‘American Idol’ appeared in the belly of the huge towers Q positioned behind the stage: on him focussed the expectations and doubts of the public who filled the sold out arena in Milan.

    And despite bronchitis which caused him to skip the date of Brussels two days ago, Adam Lambert dispelled any doubts, appearing in great shape: as we have seen from the start with the proto-metal hit ‘Stone Cold Crazy’. Filling the metaphorical shoes of Freddie Mercury is not easy: they know all the pop stars who performed alongside Brian May and Roger Taylor in the last twenty-four, from Robbie Williams to Paul Rodgers. Adam Lambert seems to be the most suitable to take on this challenging role: his vocals and histrionics are second only to those of the late Bulsara. To the tune of ‘Killer Queen’ Lambert shows what he is capable of, combining agility with singing on the stairs and a powerful falsetto charged with camp and glamor, as he lay out on a chaise longue sipping champagne. Lambert does not make a secret of his artistic debt in front of Mercury: “I can not believe I’m on stage with the living legends of rock, were it not for Freddie I would not be here,” says the singer who in 2009 thanks to a Queen cover was selected for the American talent show. It does not seem a coincidence that he said this before introducing ‘I Want To Break Free’, also known as a pro-LGBT anthem.

    The group covers all their classics in a real night of Greatest Hits: From the first hit single ‘Seven Seas Of Rhye’ to the stunning ‘Who Wants To Live Forever’, from ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ to ‘Under Pressure ‘, from’ Tie Your Mother Down ‘to the super-hit’ Bohemian Rhapsody ‘, that mixed live and playback with lots of original video clips closed the concert before the encore. Lambert’s abilities also include rock-star sensibility,he’s always ready to engage the public: beyond the numerous flashy outfits embellished with studs, wedges and crowns the singer knew how to enchant the audience, inviting them to sing on ‘Somebody To Love’ and clap on ‘Radio Ga Ga’.

    This ensured the success of an evening gone far beyond a tribute: Taylor and May are not simply the torchbearers of a longtime legacy, but rock stars who still know how to win tens of thousands of spectators at a time. The solos of Brian May – on songs like ‘Fat Bottomed Girls’ or ‘I Want It All’ and in his long prog-psychedelic solo in the second half of the live – are as powerful as the old days. In addition to the drums, for his part, Roger Taylor contributes his voice in the middle segment of the live, when the two founders of the band take center stage, leaving the singer behind the scenes, the drummer leaves the skins to his son Rufus and guardian of Freddie Mercury in ‘Those Are The Days of Our Lives’ and ‘It’s A Kind Of Magic’. “We are happy to return Queen to you,” says Brian May in Italian with a pun. Between the energy of the band and the explosiveness of Lambert, truly for over two hours it seemed like the Queen of thirty years ago, when the Brits entered the Olympus of rock. And an encore ‘stadium’ with ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘We Are The Champions’ has just confirmed that the rock has no age.
