So this is a recap of my London QAL experience, both shows combined.

I stayed in London for 5 days, so it was also a vacation, not just for concerts. I was mostly away from wifi, only read some reviews of the shows during my stay. I arrived on Thursday evening, Friday was kind of a tourist day. Madame Tussauds (met vax Freddie Smile ) and in the evening Phantom of the Opera. That show in London was the best musical I’ve seen! Glad though it was before QAL shows Wink London really showed her best sides; the weather was warm (for me), sun was shining on many days and no need for umbrella or shovel. The hotel was good, new, warm.

The unfortunate thing is, that there were no fandom get togethers, dinners, pre-parties etc. Many Finnish fans went to London, but there’s no such feeling of belonginess as here. Some were in the queue the whole concert day, others probably did sightseeing and shopping or wanted to stay with their friends. I think the greatest – but quite chilly – pre-party was being in queue for GA. Great possibility to connect with Queen fans. But it’s not possible for me, so for me the night was just the concerts and couple of drinks before Smile I was hoping to meet kinkykiedis in London, but she had GA so she was in the queue since morning. I planned to visit her on the line, but unfortunately other circumstances messed things up.

On Saturday we left for the arena before 6 pm. O2 is a big round building with many restaurants around an inside avenue, the arena itself is another circle inside the building. There were many gates into the arena, of course we had on Saturday the furthest entrance. But before that we (there was five of us from the same hotel, a bit older fans) went to a bar which was supposed to be a meeting point for people from QAL Fans United, a hatred-free facebook group for Queen (and Adam) fans who cherish QAL. I didn’t recognize anyone, it was full of people, so we just sat in a table with two middle-aged British guys. They said they like to go often to see bands in O2, older stuff. They had seen Queen and Adam on TV on NYE and thought it would be good. Of course we told yes it will. I guess they had fun when we told about our QAL / Adam experiences, traveling around the globe… Not any Queen diehards, just loving old rock.

Inside the arena there were more stands where to get drinks and merchandise. On my way there I met some glamberts from Europe that I knew from Helsinki. Quick reunion Smile Our seats were in the lower stand, if the stage is at six o’clock it was ten I think. But I was surprised I wasn’t that far, O2 is a great shape venue. And great view to the stage, no one or nothing interfered the sight. My travel mate sat next to a lady from LA, US. I didn’t get a chance to talk to her much because the concert began soon, but she was a new glambert (found him because of Queen but missed the concerts last summer). So she had come over to UK, was going to many shows in three countries. She told she lives near Adam in LA! Drives past his house every day. Oh mine!

But now into the concert. When we arrived on Saturday, all GA people were already in. People in the bars and seats were quite matured, of course some 30/40’s but no young young people. Or they were probably standing in GA.

I have seen the videos, but live concert is always a different thing. Sound mix was perfect to our spots on both nights, Adam’s voice so beautiful and clear, not overpowered by music. On Sunday we had great location, thanks to dear cher <3, it was the block next to the stage but not too much on the side of the stage. We were quite up but the perfect view straight to the stage. We were at the same level in front as the first row of GA. On Sunday I noticed that there was a barrier on our side where the thrust ended. Lucky first 200 or so queuers got their own area in front, no one pushing…

On the first night I could hardly realize I was really there. My spot was great for seeing the full light show and the big round screen. So my agenda was to dance, clap, watch the lights and Adam's expressions. Lol he had so funny expressions, gestures and faces, it was joyful to watch. And the vocals! I heard that there was some bluray-taping going, but I am not sure. But I noticed some killer vocals. It was Save me that really dropped me, I listened like paralyzed. I can't describe it, but his voice was almost unrecognizable. Incredibly soft, sweet, sensitive. None of the videos I have watched have managed to capture it as it sounded. It was amazing. That a capella start, nothing but his voice soaring in that big hall. Save me and WWTLF were my favorites. They are so stunningly beautiful and show his incredible voice. The only thing that bothered me was that the audience seemed a bit quiet. I don't know if it was my location or what, but I thought there would be more screaming, clapping, jamming, fist pumping etc. Till the end of the concert it increased. But I didn't pay that much attention, I was in my own mood doing that Smile.

I think Sunday was the closest I've been to Adam (which is miserable compared to some great seats many of you had last summer). I immediately felt the energy, being close to the enthusiastic GA audience. There was much more loudness and energy than Saturday even before the show started. I think it was perfect to see first the whole picture from further and next day closer. I loved to go to the show two nights in a row! When I realized I had been there, I just wanted to experience it again. I wasn't feeling well during that day, mostly resting, but when it was concert time I got better and enjoyed it fully. Was so happy to get new dose so soon! Adam was so adorable on the second day!! He was much more loose, naughty, sexy, silly, moving around the stage a lot, commanding the stage and interacting with the audience. I mostly watched straight to the stage, what he was doing. On the second day there were less funny expressions, but more action. He was truly enjoying himself. In the end when he asked the audience to light up their mobile phones, it was so beautiful. I remember thinking that on the first night, why there are only few mobile lights on. Well, people are busy videotaping or taking photos Grin.

After the show I felt warm inside, with those two different nights my experience was full. Something was missing after the first night. Maybe it was the location. I needed to see those most enthusiastic people in the front row and Adam from the closer distance. I wish I had heard people commenting the show but didn't happen to hear any conversations afterwards. I didn't leave the venue among the first ones, so I didn't hear Queen fans singing (seen the video now). I hope all Londoners left as happy as I was. And grateful, that I still have one concert to go. I felt like the junkie who needs more. We get amazing videos thanks to many devoted fans, but the truth is that voice live is something that can't be imagined. I really really hope for a professional DVD. Queen would make the sound as perfect as it can be.

A friend of mine was also in London and in QAL concert with her own friends. She is a Queen fan (just a fan of music, not part of the fandom) and knows Adam, likes his voice but not his own music. Her friends are Adam fans but not ”in fandom”. I sent my friend a message later to ask what she thought of the show. She answered Adam certainly does justice to Queen's music. She wrote in her facebook that it was the best concert she has seen (has been to very many), Adam is amazing performer and even sings some songs better than Freddie. She linked there one of the great reviews too. Maybe now she gives Adam's songs a chance, I'm sure she would like some. She has only heard hit singles played on the radio. For me it was Sleepwalker and Soaked live versions that hooked me.

I took a lot of photos on Sunday, but they are not close shots. I have to remove them from my camera and see if I have anything good enough to share. Looking forward to my next trip, also in social meaning to meet old and new ALL friends Smile

LadyNorth, thanks so much for the wonderful detailed recap. They always all so much for those of us sharing the experience vicariously. I am really looking forward to Prague when we can get to know each other properly in person Grin

You’re welcome rs Smile I guess I couldn’t keep it brief, lol. But it’s nice to write down my memories. I’m also looking forward getting to know you better in person! And sharing an Adam experience Smile

Hi rs and ladynorth. Great recap! Always love to read others’ experiences at the concerts. Happy a bunch of you will connect in Prague. I would be in Milan now if not for this foot but stuff happens for a reason and I’m okay with it. My phone alerted me that my flight to Milan landed a few hours ago. Grin Guess my phone doesn’t know my flight was cancelled. I am just so happy my injured foot is just a temporary thing and not permanent. Time flies and ERA3 will be here before we know it. I will be looking forward to that with both feet intact!! Laugh
