Risky, dear risky, thank you so very much for posting that STL at 1116 last night!!! The video was like peeking through a window, lol, but the audio was fantastic!!!! I really liked being able to see the crowd clapping, and the cheering after that glorious vocal adventure of a song!!

Ahem, gonna talk professional fer a quick second. Whilst working with the voice ( not singing, just a voice ability perspective) , we aim for 10 seconds of phonation with quiet voice as being a goal for average or normal.
As you increase loudness, and try to maintain a tone, you need a lot more vocal and respiratory control. To go beyond 10 seconds, loud,on pitch and unwavering, is astounding. We all know it, but,from a mechanical perspective, it takes a very skilled singer to produce these glory notes. And then change pitch for what follows immediately.
I’m always just blown away. And constantly reminded that Freddie adored opera, that Adam studied operatic voice (albeit briefly, but with lasting impact. ), and how it is embodied in the music of Queen.
Thanks, mils – that was very interesting – always like reading about the technical parts of singing (my relative is always a good source for me – run Adam segments past him occasionally) –
That soundcloud by queenofcarg is a hoot – so much audience singing can barely hear Adam at times – but if you like enthusiasm give it a listen –
Adam’s always gotten great comments after a show, but they seem to me to be increasing in frequency and intensity – perhaps just the city/country?

I’m just going to clarify my earlier post, just in case anybody out there is trying to hit the 10 second mark, and can’t.
Okay
Take a deep breath in.
Say “aaahhh ” as long and as loud as you can until you run out of air, on one breath.
It’s normal to lose loudness and change pitch along the way.
Less than 10 seconds indicates several things to a trained voice/speech Therapist.
More than 10 seconds also indicates things.
Going to 15 plus seconds, loud, with tone/pitch control, body movement, and instantaneous vocal recovery, is a feat managed by few in the world.
Also, what you do see, and what you don’t see speaks volumes about his control and talent.
You see him breathing very low, so low it’s literally below the belt. His lung capacity is huge. That means that lung functions like vital capacity and tidal volume are maxed and used. You can see this. And ,yes, it can and does result in certain bulges that are so glorious to behold. Not every singer experiences this, but, obviously, it happens to our guy.
What you don’t see is shallow rapid breathing, losing his air, inappropriate phrasing to catch air, neck bulging, neck veins bulging, hoarsrness, facial grimacing, no straining to walk and sing.
He walks. Struts, sashays, twirls, rides the bike, all while singing and not missing a beat.
He has learned to take advantage of a loud audience singing along by putting the mic out to them. Rather than trying to sing over them. It is fun to watch, but it’s very vocally smart to avoid straining his voice.
Also, what we see, his chewing gum during interviews, always has a drink in his hand, wearing scarves wrapped around his neck, collars up when outside in cool air, he looks gorgeous and hip,fashionable, but it’s all for his voice. Very smart. Alcohol isn’t always in his glass, he’d be constantly bombed if it were. But, even in a bar or while socializing, having something to sip on while talking in a noisy environment is very good for vocal conservation .

Thanks, mils, I’d forgotten your professional specialty. Really, really interesting to “hear” about your expertise and analysis of the voice. Especially Adam’s, lol. Sure hope you won’t hold back on adding to our collective knowledge – you know, whenever you are so moved…
Adam does not profess to know much about some things, e.g. math or politics, but it always seems to me he is able to act instinctively so quickly, and is maybe (unlike most of us) a true multitask-er. He see’s what’s happening in the audience, and on stage – remember when he guided Brian away from a couple of disasters early on in this tour? Probably happened before Brian had the hang of the new staging. All the while doing everything mils has described with his voice and performance. It’s a kind of genius itself, I think!

It was firstimerob and her artist son who we met in Brooklyn before the show. Of course, our Brooklyn adventure was so surreal (bizarre wellness hotel, overdosing on cheesecake, etc,) that it’s not surprising that we lost track of some blog aliases along the way.
