The Queen + Adam Lambert tour kicks off Thursday night in the “Windy City” of Chicago with many ALLers taking in the opening concert. The atmosphere will be electric as we wait to see what Q+AL have planned to entertain us. If the iHeartRadio appetizer is an indication of what is to come, we are in for a moveable musical feast!

Odd, I couldn’t edit one of my posts. When I went to “edit” it opened up another post of mine.
Anyway, wanted to clarify in that exit poll the man says “he’s no Freddie replacement unfortunately”.
I love,love.love all the recaps, and the more detailed the better! Keep them coming! And I know exactly how great it is to share it with a whole group of ALLers. We had that same experience in San Diego last year. It is funny, because we were talking then about how it should be a yearly event, and we were hoping that there would be a concert the next year that we could all go to together. Most of it came true, and it the biggest way possible, but there seem to be about 5 main gathering spots for ALLers. Still no one place where we can all meet. Maybe that is too much to ask, and at each event we add a few more “in person” encounters. This time I definitely know that I will meet mils, and kradamour and anyone else who will be at the get-togethers in Toronto and New York, and I know that ulti will be at the DC show, so I hope we will meet.
About the set list, the one they posted, and performed ended with WWRY-WATC, but I saw a photo of a woman who had the printed set list, and you could see that it had been folded under to hide the last song which was Don’t Stop Me Now. That was the finale at the LA preview and they killed it on that song. I wonder why they left it off in Chicago and whether they will include it in the coming concerts. Maybe they will put it earlier in the show.
mlg, emailed me the poster for tonight, a photo of her in the red boa and also a recap that I asked if I could share with you. She said “yes”! English is not her mother tongue so she is shy about writing at length. I find her written English charming as I am sure she is in person. She went with five of her non-Glambert friends.

My thinking is that because the concert started late due to some technical problems, they had to end by a certain time so decided to not do it.
One more post and then I am done! But it does have something to so with QAL. About a week ago I got an email from a friend of mine telling me that she had watched two of Adam’s Queen concerts (Kiev and Iheart in Las Vegas) on her computer. She knows all about my fandom (I stayed with her when I went to the Hard Rock concert in Florida) but she has never expressed any interest in hearing his music and she has always tolerated me when I talk about him in a mildly amused fashion. So I was floored when she said that she watched the concerts and that he has a fantastic voice! Anyway, her 80+ year old boyfriend (she is in her 70s) is here now with his son and daughter-in-law and I met them for lunch today. They are a very sweet couple and when they started talking about the Lady Gaga concert that they went to, I mentioned Adam and Queen. They are Queen fans, but know little about Adam. To make a long story short, they came over to my place so that I could give them a Kiev DVD and we watched a few of the vids from Chicago. Her favorite is Fat Bottom Girls and she was in stitches the whole time, especially when he was “riding”. Then she asked to see Killer Queen and they (she and her husband) loved the camp. They really GOT him. I showed them his soaring voice on Love Kills and WWTLF and she was gasping, and the clincher was BoRap. They thought it was fabulous and such a great homage to Freddie. The loved the chemistry on the stage with Roger and Brian. So the end of the story is that as soon as they get home (they leave tomorrow night) she is going on line to see where the concerts are and when so that they can try and get to one. Unfortunately they live in Naples Florida, so nothing is close, but I have a feeling that that won’t stop them. I also gave them a copy of Trespassing! It is the first time that I have been able to give an album away like that. No one here is ever interested. It felt so good

I love everyone’s recaps, I am not much of a recap per so I will just add tidbits when I think of them
I am looking for a picture of him in his white pants when he went up on the stairs on our side, left if you are looking at the stage. He went down into a shimming, dancing sort of squat and I about fainted into mils lap. I have seen a couple from those steps but none from that critical moment.
I thought there might be a second encore but the lights came on. I was thinking maybe if the crowd would have screamed more they might have come back but the lights stayed on and like you (AL) or others said it was probably a timing thing.
When the concert was supposed to start..7:30pm…the lines outside were a mile long. No way could they have begun on time. I heard that the doors didn’t open at 6PM like was told everyone.
What a wonderful 3 days! I was way too tired last night to post after getting home. I just caught up on all the posts here, and wanted to make a couple of comments before starting on my recap.
After the show, we saw the lady who had a copy of the set list. Don’t Stop Me Now was at the bottom of the list with “spare” in parenthesis after it. I’m assuming that they plan to use it as a 3rd encore song when they have the time and inclination to add another song. The main reason the show had to start late was that the lines to get into the venue were ridiculously long and many people were not seated until after 8 PM. We were in line for 35 minutes and just made it in at 7:25 PM. And there was a huge crowd of people behind us. At least I had luval, adamized, nkd & jlurks to keep me company as I bounced around in excitement in the line.

The concert:
The stage curtain started to glow, kind of lavender…the lights started to dim, the curtain got more intense…whole arena vibrating with an electric hum…music starts…
POW!! It’s Adam HUGE HUGE HUGE in that center magic mirror Q..leather leather studs studs glasses Dragon Attack pants ( thank you so much) and…NO VOICE…OMG no voice…glambot there’s no voice…so he just calmly and without missing a beat goes to another mic and the vocal can barely be heard ..Adam struts to the other side of the stage and tosses his mike to a techie and there’s still not great sound in the mike he was handed by same techie…and Adam is doing his familiar to us hand gestures and saying in gestures that we know so well ” turn it up motherf-***ers” and then, Let There Be Voice, and
there was Voice. And a glorious voice it was.
I’m not going to recap each song, I’ll just talk about stand out moments. Fat Bottomed Girls. OMG. How I have always loved this song. From waaay back with Freddie, to now with Adam. The whole place was singing along, the whole place was just pounding and fist pumping. The big screen of Adam was so very fierce….now, all you fat ass bitches get on your bikes and riiiiiide!! Wait, the camera is not on Adam!!!!!SHIT!!!!!! he’s doing sexaay stuff, but in the back of my mind, I know we’ll get good vidz, I know TALC is in da house. All will be well. Crowd is going crazy.
Time for a drum battle or a guitar solo.
And a costume change. Glambot and I are getting tactile at this point.
And then the crew places what looks like a settee or chaise lounge or sofa on stage, can’t tell the color due to lighting, but it is glam. Very Glam. What is the boy going to do? OMG. The anticipation is kill-ing me.
Lights come up, the lounge is purple. Straight up purple velvet and gilded and curvy. OMG Something is about to happen.
And then there he is, strolling , hips swaying, sashaying in those heels and fringes and gold and spikes and deliciousness and the Dragon Attack pants are still on ( I don’t know how because by this point about 10,000 men and women would rip them off with their bare teeth if they could ), and he gingerly places himself on the sofa. And begins to fan himself.
I’m going weak in the knees, squeeing, laughing so damn hard, licking up the camp, drinking it in, Glambot is doubled over, I look back, at adamaddict who is cracking up, Adam has the whole place in the palm of his hand.
And then he reclines.
Everyone is screaming and cat calling and carrying on.
And then he leans even more into it and grabs his champagne bottle. Crowd goes insane. Insane.
“How do you like my sofa? It’s so butch.” OH. My Gawd.
“How do you like my sheewz?” Heels clicking. Crowd screaming.
More fanning.
Oh. And he sang the shee-it out of Killer Queen.
I want It All: All of a sudden, he is butch. All testosterone in glitter and fringes. He shimmies, he shakes, he holds his long toned arms out akimbo just like on WAG and strikes poses. The fringes are sliding off, he takes them off, and very strongly places them over his shoulder, then on the mike stand, so rock and roll. His voice just soars. Goosebumps.
Love of My Life: Just so beautiful. Whole audience singing along. Freddie on the big screen, crowd goes absolutely ape-shit. What a powerful presence he still has, Freddie’s voice filling the arena. What a moment.
Under Pressure What can I even say? Love love love this song, always have. Audience singing along to every single word. Perfect.
Love Kills/Who Want to Live Forever:
I am still gob-smacked by Adam’s voice with these songs. The power and beauty brought me to have tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat, I found myself with my hands on my chest, my hands on my face, my jaw dropping, knees weak, the large screen with his face so big, his emoting so perfect, the power, the careful playing by Brian, so perfect.
I looked back at the rocker guys behind me, and they were so into it. So enjoying this. Yes. Adam won them over big time.
Long and powerful Brian May solo. I’m in the presence of a guitar god. His guitar sings, soars and is of a quality that is rare. I’m so grateful to have heard him play. My bucket list has one item to be crossed off.
Costume change.
Now it’s a zebra top, WHITE PANTS ( Glambot, white pants, we high five each other ), white gloves and those boots we’ve seen before.
Radio Ga-Ga.
I have loooooved this song since I can remember. At Live Aid, which I recall so vividly, the visual of the hand clapping, the audience interaction, and then so many years later, seeing it on the livestream from Kiev, and literally being moved to tears for Adam being able to have that moment.
And now, here I was, doing the choreography live, with Adam, with Queen, Radio Ga-Ga, I had a lump in my throat. Bucket List moment again.
Show Must Go On: This is a killer of a song. So well written, so emotional, so much connection to Freddie and his AIDS struggle, Queen purists were groaning and gasping, Glamberts were groaning and gasping for somewhat different reasons, maybe the same reasons, so much intertwining of fandoms, all I can say is this:
Give the boy an Oscar, a Tony and a Grammy, this was the best acting, singing and performance of a song in recent history. The masculine energy and emotion that man put out reached into every single person in that arena and moved them. He poured himself into every syllable and every note, and left it all on that stage. UNREAL. Crowd went nuts.
BoRhap: What can I even say? After being spoiled by all the vids from the Kiev, Poland and Russia shows, and London, how could it be any different? But it was. It was live. Right in front of me. I remember hearing and seeing it for the first time on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, that iconic video, that strange operatic song. It was so odd, so weird, so compelling, so unforgettable, I just wanted to see and hear it more. And now, it’s Adam, and the video montage on the big screen with lights and lasers and fog and strobes, and booming thunderous reactions from the crowd. Singing along, fist pumping. Just great. And Freddie, oh how we salute and adore Freddie.
Over. No way. Crowd is stomping and clapping to WWRY.

After the show, we had to gather our emotions, get our stuff, etc. I stopped to talk with the rocker guys behind us, the loved the show, were very impressed with Adam and Brian and Roger. They knew that the other drummer was his son,and knew his name. I was impressed.
Then they started putting on special wrist bands. They were black, with red and gold lettering.
The darker, NY guy said to me “Don’t be upset. I wanted to tell you earlier , but didn’t have the heart, we can see you are a huge fan , but,…we know Spike …we’re going backstage now.”
To which I uttered a very classy, very sophisticated knee- jerk response of “F***ck My Life!!!!!!” They just laughed hard and said they had to rush and go.
In the lobby, we saw lots of Glamberts, met up with some from other sites, and saw the people who had the set list, with one song, Don’t Stop Me Now, as a spare as luval talked about upthread.
After a cab catching adventure in the rain, there was a party in our suite until 2AM. Several bottles of wine disappeared and many snacks. Peach salsa. Yum.
At one point, my corner friends and I were all in my bedroom, gabbing and pictures were starting to come in.
So nkd just casually shows me the first pic I had seen. It’s the one up top of him reclining and sprawled out on the chaise. I almost choked on my wine. I grabbed her phone, I had to walk away, my knees went weak, I had to lean on something. I’m not kidding.
So there were nkd, glambot and asif laughing at me!!! The corner was found in Chicago.
What a great time with friends in that suite.

Next morning, we had an ALL breakfast, with some Juneau and Xena friends as well, and lingered and gabbed about many things.
On our way into breakfast, we bumped into that mom and daughter who we rode with to the show. The daughter so cute, just bubbling over with happiness. I gave her my special bracelet that was made for the show. She was just thrilled.
All in all, I’m still in recovery mode. As I’m sure many of us are. What a couple of days and couple of nights. What a show. Simply incredible.
Such a great recap, mils – almost like being there. What an experience – you must be so happy.
That mic fail – still gobsmacked that it was all such a mess – one mic after another. In a less professional performer could have been a disaster at the very opening of the first big concert. Queen wanted to open BIG and this incredible failure took place. How could this happen? Isn’t the equipment tested? Someone make a mistake? Almost like it was deliberate – if not, the moron in charge should be summarily booted, imo.

mils awesome recap, just one thing, it was my phone, I saw the picture and said Oh My God nkd said what and I showed her the pic and she grabbed it to show you. Lol she is pretty grabby. Then you went to your knees, really I thought my phone was a goner.
When I got it back, all sweaty and everything, I went to show everyone in the other room and Asif was trying to take it too. 
I hung on that time, there were ooh and ahhs through out the suite.

I kind of outed myself as far as the blog goes. When we got in the shuttle, I asked the lady next to me where she was from. She said Iowa and that was her Mom in the front seat from Iowa too, and their friend from Milwaukee in the seat behind her Mom. Well it was a light bulb moment. I started hollering Mils? Josie? Lady next to me says that’s …. mils real name. I said again Mils? she turned around and I said, I’m glambot, we all squeed, and beside me my husband was looking at me like I was crazy. So out I was.
After breakfast the next day he said everyone was really nice. I told him, yep, these are my people. My family and friends and co-workers don’t get it, but all these people really get it, so this is who I talk to.
So yes this and the shows, My Happy Place.
