The friends of Slaves to Rock were yesterday at the Sant Jordi and they made us participate in what happened yesterday in the Ciudad Condal with the passage of Queen + Adam Lambert.
It is a real privilege to be able to enjoy live, even if only with half of its original components, one of the ROCK bands with capital letters of history. The biggest loss we suffered on November 24, 1991 with the death of the unique and irreplaceable Freddie Mercury, which made, after a while, the great John Deacon got off this almost perfect machine called QUEEN, for which they have continued fighting both Brian May and Roger Taylor.
The first attempt to continue playing live was with Paul Rodgers, which also allowed us to listen to some Bad Company song, an experiment that lasted two tours and a studio album, but that was not the image or the sound that came to us from the stage that we enjoyed with Freddie, without detracting from the good singer that is Rodgers, which has changed radically with the signing of Adam Lambert, out of a contest of American talent, which in this his third tour with the band shows that it is the voice and perfect figure to replace Mercury.
With a large stage in which appears an image of the mechanical monster of the album “News Of The World” which is celebrating 40 years, although it was only noticed in the visual assembly since the set will not be mounted around this, they begin to his performance with “Tear It Up” (surprise !!), followed by “Seven Seas of Rhye” and “Tie Your Mother Down”.
The set is very well structured to accommodate the brilliance of the three stars of the band that are accompanied by keyboardist, guitar accompanist, bass and percussionist, with whom they star in a duel with another drummer who is mounted on the catwalk that leaves the stage and to which Roger feels to interpret some more theme, amen of the interpretation of “Lucy” by Lambert and May’s guitar solo and his “Last Horizont” (melody beauty where ever !!).
And in the middle? … In addition to the three mentioned above, another 19 topics more difficult to stand out from each other, but to name a few: “Killer Queen” (with Adam sitting on the head of the aforementioned monster that comes from the floor of the stage), “Do not Stop Me Now”, “I’m In Love In My Car” (sung by Roger, of course), or the touching moment in which Brian with his 12-string guitar performs a piece of the Concert of Aranjuez joined to “Love Of My Life” in which he sings the first verse and the second one sings an image of Freddie on the screen, and for server another momentazo has been “Under Preassure” sung by Roger and Adam … ??
The show is terrific at the multifunction, light and sound stage, which makes each song a numeration and when we realize we are skimming the end when “The Show Must Go On”, “Radio Ga Ga” and the unparalleled “Bohemian Rapsody” as the climax to the set. After a few minutes, Freddie reappears on the screen for his only Wembley vocal and make us sing, followed by “We Will Rock You” and “We are The Champions”, with Adam wearing a crown of “brilliants”, after which they leave us with the feeling of having lived one of the performances of the year.
