Walking home now. This might be one of the best gigs I’ve been to and I’ve been to some QAL shows, lol. The energy of the crowd was amazing and Adam was feeling the love! Damn. This is my last gig so now I’m sad. ?

Translation:
Part 1
The best live version of Queen after the original with frontman Freddie Mercury. That brought Queen and Adam Lambert in a more than two-hour show in the Antwerp Sportpaleis for about 13,500 fans. A show that Freddie honored several times and a singer who flawlessly spoke his falsetto. The painted Lambert with glitter eyeshadow remained very close to the show level of the original front man. We counted 5 changes of clothing, not infrequently he wore plateau shoes with a high heel, and saw that glitter was incorporated in his pants or in his frequent striped cardigan. Furthermore, he referred to the ’80s with a pink and black checkered pants with a pastel blue vest. A large production had Queen and Adam Lambert also, good for no less than 20 trucks and 5 tour buses to people and material. The B-stage, catwalk and A-stage had the shape of a black electric guitar with a red edge. And then there were several multicolored lasers (during a phenomenal ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ in which Adam Lambert effortlessly pulled out high and he ended up in the stage on which Brian May appeared and gave a handsome guitar-out), a disco ball (at ‘I because to break free), white confetti (‘We are the champions’), CO2 jets (‘I want it all’), and two LED screens (one curved at the front of the stage and one rectangular at the back) that gives the spectacle a high visual impart content. The only flaw was the ego trip of the two original band members: guitarist Brian May (‘Last horizon’ as a guitar solo via a lift from the stage), drummer Roger Taylor (who sang ‘I’m in love with my car’) and singer Adam Lambert (who brought his ‘Lucy’) that nobody seemed to be waiting for. Such things not only took the pace out of the show, you just felt the tension of the concert was very relaxed. If they were to delete it and go for a tighter performance, you would undoubtedly have seen a 5-star performance in the country’s largest concert hall. Now it was very good and you went home with the feeling that it could still be just a little bit better.

Part 2
Half an hour later than expected – many fans groaned again under the traffic around the Sportpaleis – Queen and Adam Lambert started the show with ‘Tear it up’. At the back of the stage was Lambert with his platform shoes with red heel and red cloak to sing ‘Play the game’ after ‘Tie your mother down’. ‘Fat bottomed girls’ started singing in a multi-part a capella, after which electric guitar and drums enriched the song and the frontman who in the meantime became Queen’s singer for six years now insulted us with ‘All my fat ass bitches out there’.
Despite those six years that the finalist of American Idol from 2009 is already touring with Queen, he still has to claim and defend his place. That seems to be very tiring to have to say again and again that there is only one rock god: Freddie, have to admit that you as singer also miss this iconic singer, and you intend to celebrate him together with the thousands of fans in the hall. Irreverently, Queen and Adam Lambert are sometimes regarded as a cover band. That is obviously bullshit. If you were to carry on that reasoning, then world bands like School Cool would have had some former members with Justine Bourgeus, Andrew Van Ostade, Nele Paelinck and Michael Van Ostade. They would no longer be allowed to perform under the original name as their sound and occupation changed considerably. over the years. Does not Queen have a hit with ‘The show must go on?’?
What was so nice to see in the Sportpaleis was the fact that Adam Lambert often attracted the theatrical card. On ‘Killer queen’ we saw him sitting on the head of a silver robot with pink LED eyes. Lambert called him Frank. At ‘bicycle race’ a bicycle emerged on the B-podium and we saw the singer cycling to the right-hand side of the stage, and with encores ‘We will rock you’ and ‘We are the champions’ he wore a golden crown as a king and a golden cape where he again showed off at the right side where we sat. Admittedly, journalists had received very good places in the hall which is not unimportant to write a good report.
Part 3
Brian May, for his part, also charmed the Antwerp public. So he said ‘Good evening. It was warm. All right? “To the audience for his ‘Love of my life’ acoustic on his stool on the B-stage and the audience let the song sing along. A song that Freddie Mercury himself put down at the end by appearing on the large LED screen while May with some pathos in his hand, which eventually formed a fist, tried to reach his original singer on the screen. The audience at that moment illuminated the cockpit with their smartphones. ‘It’s amazing. Another dimension. “The guitarist recorded that he was performing on the eve of Asteroid Day. May also got his selfie stick upstairs to film himself and the audience so he expertly boosted the enthusiasm of the fans. The concert between Taylor and Lambert on ‘Under Pressure’ could not convince us further down the road because the song lacked a good second voice (that Bowie can handle) and that can stand next to Adam Lambert.

The audience sang and clapped heavily on songs like ‘I want it all’, ‘Somebody to love’ in which the fans sang the ‘Somebody’ as answer, ‘Crazy little thing called love’, ‘Radio Gaga’ that twice repetitive folded was provided with a fine modern live version with those delicious bleeps processed, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and encores ‘We will rock you’ that was folded and faded just like ‘We are the champions’ on which the audience waved along and sang along as if the Red Devils had just become world champions.
Part 5
Queen and Adam Lambert put an overwhelmingly live spectacle in the Antwerp Sportpaleis completely in the spirit of what Freddie used to do. Did we see a cover band at work? No. More accurate and respectful is to report that Queen 2.0. live there as a house.
Note, he estimates crowd at 13,500, while our spreadsheeter has 18,500 of 19,500 offered as of 6/28. She’s usually pretty accurate. And this Instagram by them shows a pretty full house, just two sections right by stage are empty, maybe by design as not even one body there. So I choose to believe her over the reviewer.
