The Original High tour of the US comes to a conclusion as Adam performs for a second night at the Orpheum Theatre in front of a hometown crowd (and many out-of-towners too). Let’s hope that when he finishes his European tour solo and with Queen that his break is short and he continues to take this amazing show to other countries.
Alex Newell kicks things off again at 8 PM with Adam following around 9 PM PDT.

(our epic 3-shows-in-3-days-in-2-cities adventure continued from the Los Angeles show 1 4/2/16 thread)

After gratefully getting a chance to sleep in and relax the next morning after the incredible first show in LA, my daughter and I joined the rest of our ALL friends at a wonderful Italian restaurant that france had arranged for us (this time including the wonderful and very generous jlurksacto who joined us for this show (thank you so much, jlurk!), but minus france and tchrsd who were having M&Gs with Adam. Yay for them and Happy Birthday tchrsd! It was wonderful to get a chance to chat with everyone and catch up.

For this show, we were in the 17th row, on the center aisle. So we had a great, straight-on view of the entire stage, like the previous night. This second show had the same kind of awesome crowd as the first LA show last night – incredibly diverse in age, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, fashion, etc. And a different set of Adam’s friends and family were there, compared to the previous night. Leila and her boyfriend were across the aisle and a couple of rows in front of us, Jake (jkstyle, the stylist) and friends I recognized but can’t name were a couple of rows behind us, and Lee, Scarlett, and Carmit were all there.

This audience loved him every bit as much as the audience the night before did. Everyone stood up as soon as the lights went out and never sat down again, and danced, screamed, hooted, and hollered loudly throughout the whole show. There was a little more kerfuffle with security in the center aisle at this show than the night before – mostly due to people wanting to go upfront or get closer and security sending them back.

I really made an effort to tune all of that out and focused myself intently on watching Adam. Whereas at the Las Vegas show, I reveled in how close to Adam we were, and at the LA 1 show, I reveled in the gestalt of the whole visual and musical presentation, at this LA 2 show, I really focused on getting into Adam’s experience of performing the show: how he inhabited the different moods and characters of the different songs and how he moved in and out of these moods and characters, how he moved and posed to achieve certain effects, how he channeled his energy for the different segments of the show, what kind of choices he made vocally, how the music inhabited him even when he wasn’t the center of attention (e.g. during the band/dancer intros, I watched him rather than the person being introduced and he was so in the moment and moving to the music so unself-consciously, the music was just flowing through him), even how he exited and re-entered the stage by casually trotting off and then re-entering with dramatic purpose and showmanship. It was fascinating and wonderful and amazing to watch and appreciate!

A few particular highlights at this show: After Hours was especially sexy. OMG he was just so smooth and sultry with that song, it shook me and took me a minute to get over it. GAAAAH. Check it out in the video above! Also, this show is where one of the stage crew surprised him and brought out an actual box, with the word “SOAP” written on it in large letters, for Adam to stand on during his soapbox speech. His reaction was sooo funny and cute! At this show, I also particularly enjoyed the brilliance of the whole opening sequence, starting with the BTIKM remix, flowing into the Ghost Town/EITN intro, flowing into EITN. OMG it’s so brilliant and so powerful and so compelling – I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. Also, at this show, his hair went from silver to sparkly! We haven’t seen glitter in a while, but his hair was really sparkly!

I loved having the luxury and privilege of going to three shows on three consecutive nights so that I could relax at each show, be in the moment, and really take it all in, knowing that I would have opportunities to catch all of the details and appreciate the different aspects of the experience across the three shows.

Alas, 90 minutes goes by really fast, and before I knew it, the show ended and our TOHT adventure was coming to a close. My daughter and I drove Reese and ladybug back to where they were staying, said goodbye, then drove the hour north to the house where we were staying. Got to bed at 2:00am and then got up at 2:45am to head back down to the airport for our 6:00am flight home and then straight into a full and demanding day at work. Aaargh, back to reality so abruptly!

I tell ya, it took me a while to really get back to reality. I think it took me more than a full week to really get over the post-concert high/depression/just-let-me-go-back-and-relive-it-again obsession. Adam Lambert live in concert – the original high indeed! So addictive!!! In Love
