Adam is probably going to have sound issues at all these shows with combined talent. He is used to the best sound engineers coming off QAL concerts. Who knows who is running sound at these shows. He would be better off to bring his own guy at least for his monitor.

  12. rs says:

Just watched the whole concert on periscope and I loved it! (surprise, surprise Grin) I loved seeing/hearing Shady again, and ALN was especially fabulous. When he starts the rounds of TV shows with this song he is going to knock people’s socks off. Also really liked Underground. I know that some peeps didn’t like the Reggae IIHY, but Adam gets bored and changes things up a lot. I liked it, got me singing and chair dancing. Of course, Is This Love is still my favorite Reggae style song that he sings. So happy for luval and mmm222 who got to see it live. It was certainly worth the trip.

Here we go. Better recap now because there will me more shows on my heels!

    trip down

Left at 6:00am in the morning, walked into the hotel at 1pm-ish. What should have been a 4-ish hour drive turned to 6 plus. I have never been through so many delays on the highways & construction, street closures & congestion in NYC. But made it! There was mmm222 in the lobby so our day started.

    pre-show

We already talked about our Greenwich Village bakery experience. I’m dreaming about BaBa rum cake stuffed with custard. It was a mini cake so I don’t feel guilty. And of course our walk back to the hotel via Washington Square where I SAW JESSICA LANGE! I know I did! It was a missed opportunity to not at least take a second look to be sure. Oh well. Ron told me she’s doing a play in New York so there’s that! Lovely exquisite Italian dinner and off to MSG.

    The show

Wow the theaters now are so strict with security. I’m glad, though. SHOW WAS AMAZING! When Adam came on I couldn’t believe I was seeing him live. I mean Wembly was the last show but it’s a whole new experience every time. There was a large contingent of Glamberts in the center section who wooped & screamed and hollered. Adam clearing played to them. Smattering of Adam fans throughout the theater. We had great seats. About 10 rows back on the right as you face the stage. This show was definitely a Duran Duran audience IMO.

And Yay for the “usual suspects” as without them there would hardly be anyone cheering! I don’t want to hear (on twitter) peeps complaining about this.

Now mmm222 and I have some little differences of opinions on the show. We both agree on the terrible sound issues for all the acts. And as someone here said it will probably continue throughout this mini tour. Sheesh, after Queen Adam is probably stunned at the sound issues he has to endure. Now you all heard him say near the end of Wicked Games “can you hear me because I can’t hear you”. He was clearly not happy. But with a smile on his face. Flapping his arms so much to the sound guy. Actually doing that quite a bit through the whole show. When he left the stage, myself & the audience were kinda like “huh”? I noticed the bass guitar player looking like he didn’t know what to do but slowly took off the guitar. The drummer had a hesitation.

IMO it was not a break before an encore. These small shows don’t have breaks with encores. Some peeps shouted out Adam, Adam! He finally came back and continued on. But I would bet my life he was off to try & do something with the sound. He gives 150% and nothing much pisses him off but wow! But the show was great!!! And I feel we pretty much had a whole show! 10 songs is way more than I thought we’d get. Mine & I think the audience favorite was Trespassing/AOBTD. Genius mash-up. The crowd loved it.

Now I don’t want to be harsh but reggae IIHY as the last song just didn’t do it for me. Or the crowd either that I could tell. He announced something like “you may have heard this song” but I don’t think the audience recognized it. Although it was a bit peppier it seems awkward and it ended the show with a whimper rather than a bang.

Oh btw, the MSG theater was beautiful. Although there was a mouse that was running up & down between the rows where we were sitting. ROTFL

Then Duran Duran. Sorry, but Simon LeBon is no rock star. He looked a little shlumpy, his clothes didn’t fit, his voice was meh. He had two lady back-up singers who actually joined him at the front on the stage and seemed to sing much more than him! But his fans around me loved them. I like them but man it was LOUD! I noticed near the beginning Simon turning around and saying “louder” to the band or sound person. Terrible idea. Also, Simon said “this is the last show of our tour”. So this was their tour & the rest were the opening acts. We left half way through. Couldn’t take the loud.

    After show day

We got up early, had hotel buffet breakfast & I suggested to mmm222 to take a walk on the Highline. Have any of you ever heard of this?
    http://www.thehighline.org
A 1.45 mile elevated walkway. Weather was perfect, there are stops along the way you can go down stairs or elevators to eating places below. Check out the website if you want. So much fun!

So another 3 mile walk! I demanded that we stop for original NY pizza so we found a spot and it was scrumptious! Then I had to have a black & white cookie (or half moon). Found a cafe called Europa Cafe. Got our cookies & we were on our way back to our homes.

Best trip ever. I always say that but this was special. Did I mention that Comic Con was going on? Like Halloween early. So much fun watching the parade of costumes & getups. They are as dedicated with their obsession as I am with mine. Grin Seemed like we were there for days although it was only 24 hours.

I love New York. The energy is like nothing and no other city in the world. Add Adam to the mix and you have heaven.

    The end.

  32. adamized says:

luval thank you so much for the long and detailed recap. Love it! Having been at many of your and mmm222’s stops in NY I could clearly vision and taste my way through the time with you. So glad it was a great trip for you guys.

I wonder if Adam has the money to pay for his own sound guys to do these one offs with him or if the venues would even allow it. It is so clear that he sorely feels when the sound isn’t right.

    Thanks again for the recap.

  33. rs says:

Hi luval! Thanks so much for the recap. I know that the sound issues are so frustrating, both for Adam and the audience alike, but it still sounds like it was a fabulous concert. You and mmm222 are so lucky that you went and got 10 songs.

I love New York, too. I always feel so invigorated when I go there and have contact with so many different people. Just walking down the street and interacting with the people lifts me up. Of course, the last time I was there was for the MSG QAL, so the concert and getting together with my ALL friends just made it so much more fun.

I love the Highline. I walked the whole length of it a few years ago. Such a great thing to do with a no longer used train track. My other favorite place to power walk is around the lake in Central Park, just north of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

  35. mmm222 says:

Thanks to luval for the detailed recap. It saves me a bit of work. Haha! I’ll just add my comments to the ones she already made.

Starting with the sound issues, just to get that out of the way… Actually, the only difference of opinion luval and I had about the show was why Adam left the stage briefly after the 8th song. He did a little bow as he left. I thought it was the exit before the encore. Luval thought it was to deal with the sound crew before his last 2 songs. In retrospect, I think she was right. The band seemed a little confused, but I have no doubt that he meant to come back as soon as he dealt with the technical issues. We (and Adam) have been really spoiled by the sound quality at the QAL shows. When I look back, I saw Adam 8 times between 6/14 and 6/15, 7 QAL shows and the GMA show. Every one had perfect sound quality. It has to be frustrating for him to give 100% to his performance and realize that the audience isn’t experiencing the full effect of his stellar vocals due to technical issues. I’m not sure how well he can control this at these festivals with multiple groups, but bringing along his own sound technician would help.

Now for the show… judging from the cheers when the acts were mentioned throughout the show, there was a decent contingent of Glamberts, but an even larger group of Duran Duran fans. I heard numerous people say that they were fans of both. The first 2 acts, Phases and Rachel Platten, were only on for 15 minutes each. Phases was so-so. Rachel Platten was your typical female pop singer. She was very personable, but nothing special as a performer. A Great Big World was next and were on for about 20 minutes. I did like them, especially when they sang the I Just Want to be a Rockstar song. It made me think of Adam and Chris Colfer singing it on Glee. One of the lead singers also did a duet with Rachel Platten which was very nice. Adam came next for a glorious 45 minute set, then Duran Duran. I can see the appeal of Duran Duran, but only if it’s not in large, loud doses. And they are a very loud rock band. Their fans were up and dancing during Adam’s set but went totally nuts when Duran Duran came on. We stuck it out for 45 minutes, but then left to preserve our hearing for future Adam concerts.

Now for the best part…Adam! Luval and I were beyond thrilled when we found out that we were getting a 45 minute set. Adam started off with a bang with Shady. It’s such a high energy song and was a perfect way to start the set. It got everyone dancing. I thought the set list was excellent with a good selection of songs from his 3 albums. The reggae IIHY was closer to the original than usual. I didn’t mind it, but thought that it did not work as the last song of the set. Underground was especially good live. And then there’s Wicked Games. That song alone was worth the price of the ticket. I wanted so badly to hear that live. I nearly went nuts when I heard him ask if we know of a guy named Chris Isaak. It was just fabulous! All those moans, wails and suggestive looks make Wicked Games my “better than my wedding night song”. (Haha! nkd, I hope you’re reading this!) Another stand out performance was the Trespassing/ AOBTD medley. But I have to say the entire set was great. Adam was so beautiful and sexy, and his vocals were just perfect. I’m so happy that luval and I were able to go to this concert together and share all the Adam induced excitement. Our walking and culinary tour of NYC was also a blast. I can’t wait to do it again.

  36. mmm222 says:

luval– Thanks for the super close up Wicked Games link. What a great video! That just made my day!

  37. glambotgram says:

The periscope I was watching the night of the concert was very deceiving. You guys say AOBTD/TSP was great but when I was watching it seemed like he wasn’t even singing it half the time and that his voice was coming from a backing track and that he was just making complimentary sounds.

I glad to hear this was not the case. Big Smile

Great recaps from both of you luval and mmm222. Sounds like it was a great time and good for the waistline. Laugh

  38. ultimathule says:

Loved the recaps from my two gals braving the wilds of New York – happy it turned out so well and that you both had a blast –

  39. luval says:

I love the piano player’s smile. He’s very cute. I think Adam likes him too…as the keyboardist in this band.

glambotgram There definitely was a strong backtrack chorus in Trespassing/AOBTD but Adam was singing along with it 99% of the time. Yes, there was times when only the track was playing but not that much. The video up top shows it as it was.

  40. glambotgram says:

I watched the above video luval and it was much better than the periscope. I just don’t remember him ever using such a loud backing track before.

Boy he sure was frustrated in Wicked Games.

  41. Axxxel says:

Thank you very much luval and mmm222 for the extensive and informative reviews.. I think it is hard to keep it short… especially after a 45 minutes show and with foodtourism as an delicious extra. Grin

  42. Axxxel says:

That Wicked Game video, despite the problems, is just wow !

  43. turquoisewaters says:

luval and mmm222 – thank you for your awesome recaps and I’m so glad that you had such a fabulous time at the show! Despite Adam’s frustrations with the sound, it was obviously a great set sung spectacularly!

So, I think I can offer up something that will clear up once and for all whether Adam left the stage after EITN and came back for Trespassing/AOBTD to deal with sound issues, or whether it was intentional as an encore.

    Behold, the official set list:
    https://twitter.com/NoSilverNoGold/status/652311127989321728/photo/1

    It was the encore!

    Smile

  49. luval says:

Lol! Encore! I was wrong. Still feel the audience & band members were confused. And to me he looked pissed off!

  50. mmm222 says:

Thanks cwm! That set list does clear things up. He did do a nice little bow before he left the stage the first time, so it does make sense that this was the encore.
