Adam joins Sarah Mclachlan, Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O’Donnell, Roberta Flack and many others at the second annual Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the Holidays benefit concert. According to the concert website, this event will “help raise awareness about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth homelessness and support the True Colors Fund’s Forty to None Project”. Tonight’s show is taking place at the historic Beacon Theatre (capacity 2829) in New York City, is SOLD OUT and begins at 8 PM EST (5 PM PST, 1 AM Sunday GMT). I have not yet seen any information as to what exact time during the evening Adam will be appearing on stage.

As always we will hope for great photos and videos, looks like there will be some of the usual pic/vid folks at tonight’s show so we should get some good eye candy. Our dear friends TLKC, luval and adamized from here on ALL will also be there, hope you guys have a great time! Everyone enjoy the chat and the show!

Gorgeous WWFM – the drummer needed a shield – sounded as though he were banging on an ashcan cover.

The duet sounds beautiful – hope to get a better vid.
    Dl’d the soundcloud.

I’m again floored, cwm by how photogenic that man’s face is. The first pic, with his eyes closed, would make a magnificent head shot by itself. Divine.

Can’t say I’m nuts about the “Clooney” pics – but then not a Clooney fan to begin with.

But, damn, when you open an article on Adam you just never know what you’re gonna be looking at.

Hi ulti! Loved Adam’s performance, especially the duet (thanks, asif, for the video). Still think our DC concert was the best ever!

Well, sparkle – it was certainly good for me since the great gals around me found this vertically-challenged one a terrific viewing spot.

(I bought a “hanging” bar for over the doorway to the kitchen – think I’ve gained 1/2 an inch – be six feet by the next time you see me – either that or very long arms.)

Phew!!!!!!! Finally online after 2 days! Am not using my iPhone due to the high cost of roaming charges and haven’t been able to get onto hotel internet until this morning, with many thanks to the guy at our hotel desk.
luval just left and I’m desolate. It’s over.

What an amazing road trip. Left Toronto early Friday morning; disembarked at Syracuse at 4:00 p.m. thinking “all I have to do is look for the grey car”, only to be faced with half-a-dozen of them at curbside. Then I heard luval’s happy voice calling out my name.

Luval has a lovely, welcoming 4-bedroom house which would make a perfect way-station on the pilgrimage to our rock god’s North-eastern seaboard concerts. We settled in, I met Monkey the cat, and then went for a lovely dinner where we talked non-stop about guess who?

Early yesterday morning we set out for NYC and, like any decent Glambert flustered at the prospect of seeing our rock god live, we forgot stuff. Minus luval’s boots and my carefully packed 4-day healthy breakfast supplies, we arrived in NYC at about 4 p.m. checked in and walked over the Beacon to case the joint. Adam had been there but was nowhere to be seen so we consoled ourselves with a light lunch.

On the way down we had received an email communication that there was a Glambert dinner at PJ O’Hurleys so we went, leaving a message for adamized. What a surprise! It was a formidable group of approximately 70 strong, including Jeaneaux, who sat at our table. What a lovely and interesting gal. Almost all of the people were from WOW.
Got a chance to see the one of the B&W Lee Cherry photo’s. It was presented to a woman who lost her house in last month’s horrible storm. Adam and Lee personally inscribed it to her and her husband. It’s gorgeous. I was number 30/300.

We were all having so much fun, we didn’t leave the restaurant until 7:30. (Made some connections and handed out this site info. YAY!)

I loved the whole concert. Sarah MacLachlan is a favourite of mine. Whoopie and Rosie were funny. Jason Mraz and Carmen Electra were lovely surprises and Adam was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G as usual. I got more and more excited as the concert progressed because I realized that Adam was viewed as a primary draw, the last artist to appear before Cyndi. Very cool. Haven’t seen the videos yet but imho the hand holding moment in Mad World was a bit of a comical disconnect between Cyndi and Adam. Could be an SNL moment. But I seem to be alone in thinking that. I was hoping for a True Colours duet but Cyndi did that at the end, all on her own and it was touching.

Didn’t love everything. Took a bathroom break during the lesbian band erformance. Missed the bum note in WWFM because I was so in awe of Adam that I didn’t see or hear anything else. Huge number of Glamberts in the house.

Luval and I lost each other after the concert and had to reconnect at the hotel. We went back to the stage door but it appeared that Adam and the other performers had crossed the street to a post-event party and we boringly decided to rehash the whole thing at a near-bye restaurant and then go to bed.

So sad it’s over. When will we see him again on this side of the ocean?

  24. TLKC says:

Post script: very sad that I missed adamized. Also luval is a Road Tripper par excellence!

  25. HK fan says:

TLKC, thanks for the recap, you sound like you had a great time, made even better by being able to flail with like minded people.
But where was the bum note in WWFM??? I’ve just watched the video cwm linked above and I didn’t hear one, thought it was great, best version for a long time?? although admittedly I have just woken up after falling asleep with my daughter, so my eyes and ears aren’t working fully!!
I loved the MW duet too, thought Adam was perfect in it. Don’t think I’m quite hearing what everyone else is regarding Cyndi Lauper though….It sounded like she messed up her words on her solo verse, and she seemed nervous, and sticking her hand out for Adam to grab as reassurance. And her end notes sounded off, but I’m really not very familiar with her voice (only know 2 songs) so thats maybe just the way she sings.

  26. TLKC says:

You’re going to have to ask luval ‘cos I missed it. Just to be plain, it was the guitarist’s bum note, not Adam’s.

  27. TLKC says:

You can’t see it on the video but in my memory she held her hand out for a while before Adam saw it (or took it.) Not bad, just a bit humorous. In the end they connected beautifully. I love how Adam accompanied her vocals towards the end of the song – she took the high notes and he dropped his voice.

    Their hug is awesome.

  28. Ron says:

Wonderful recap from a wonderful lady who had a wonderful time! Thanks TLKC!!

Enjoy the rest of your stay in NYC! The city that never naps. Wink

luval, safe trip home. I’ll phone you this evening.

Hi HK Fan! I agree with you. I didn’t hear a bad note during WWFM. Adam sounded great although I thought the band was too loud. I would have cut the volume by half and slowed down the temp just a bit. Otherwise, he looked and sounded great.

There’s no reason to hold hands for a duet of “Mad World”. It’s a song about isolation. I think Lauper was reaching to Adam for a kind of “support”. It’s the first thing I thought when she made that gesture. It might have taken a bit more effort than she’s used to to hit those big notes at the end. Holding Adam’s hand gave her the strength and confidence to go for it and I think she sounded great.

Another example of Adam being a very generous performer. He more or less gave her the end of that song.

One of the Tweets that I read summed it up best when it said the reason he/she liked the duet was that “Adam brought out the best in Cyndi”.

  29. rs says:

Thanks so much for the recap TLKC. That is just what I was waiting for. I couldn’t figure out how the concert was organized. I knew that Adam came on near the end (as per his Keek in the car saying that he was late) and I saw that he introduced Cyndi. So she only came on at the very end? And did she duet with anyone else? or just with Adam? I saw that thing when she reached out to him and it took a while until he saw it. There were a few things like that. At the end he went to kiss her hand but then she got even closer to him so he kissed her cheek and then they hugged. These are spontaneous, unrehearsed, adorable bits of affection and I love them.

How was Roberta Flack? I love her. What did she sing?

  30. rs says:

Hi ron, hope that you are feeling better.

I was writing my comment while yours was getting posted. I agree with what you said about Cyndi reaching out to Adam, and I also thought he was being very generous giving her the big notes at the end of the song. But it was her show afterall. And he really was so thrilled just to be invited. He said it and you could see how genuinely he meant it. About the song choice, it is kind of a strange song for a duet, but Cyndi asked for it, and it does speak to the population that they are raising money for (lonely, homeless teenagers).

  31. Ron says:

    Hi rs!

I am feeling a bit better. Thank you for asking.

I could only think that Cyndi Lauper liked the song Mad World and perhaps it was the first time she saw Adam when he performed it on Idol and so she wanted to sing it with him.

Your observation about this song being sung re homeless teenagers makes it all the more poignant and meaningful. I’m sure you’re correct.

It’ll always be one of my favorite songs.

  32. Northern Spirit says:

Thanks for the recap, TLKC. So glad you had a great time. It was fun being on twitter imagining what was going on. We did get audio live for Adam’s performance, thanks to @vistadiva. Boy, security was bad last night.

I rather liked it when Cyndi reached out to Adam, but I also saw it as a means of support and comfort.

  34. Ron says:

Great photos and videos above now added to the page!

There’s JamieGlambert under the umbrella! I’ll tell you, that girl certainly gets around! Laugh

She lives 45 minutes away from Toronto and I first met her at the party we had for Adam’s 29th birthday at Monarch’s. She’s my good luck charm. I couldn’t begin to read the numbers on my raffle ticket for the grab bag prizes. She read mine and I won. I’ve never won anything before in my life. Jamie did it for me. Smile

Second time was in Ste.-Agathe. Third time was here in Toronto for Adam’s 30th birthday get together. Last time I saw her was the autograph session in May where she got to interview Adam on TV. I don’t know HOW she pulled that one off but I don’t think anything gets past her. Laugh

You can just tell from the photo that she’s a lot of fun.

  35. Kradamour says:

But, damn, when you open an article on Adam you just never know what you’re gonna be looking at.

Too true, too true…and not always a good thing…this look is a little bit too much Eddie Munster, imho…
    Thinking
Loved loved loved the MW duet! but I can never hear MW enough, that one soaring note just stops my heart every time.
So glad that it came out of mothballs for this event…I would love for Adam to bring it back into his concerts now that he has a larger body of music and isn’t out there pushing a single album. It was obvious from the crowd reaction when the song began that it was very welcome.
    Grin
Re the hand holding – Cyndi Lauper is a huge star, and a link to her means something in the music business. Adam was appropriately (and I think sincerely) deferential to her, and I thought when she held her hand out to him that it was to emphasize her stamp of approval. It seems to me that Adam has quite a few people looking out for him quietly in the background, such as Elton John inviting him to sit at his table.
    Just a thought.
(I’ve only been to two or three concerts in my life prior to Adam, and Cyndi Lauper was one of them, almost 30 years ago for her Girls Just Want to Have Fun tour. So much energy!)

  36. milwlovesadam says:

LULZ. I think the hand holding was ” Oh Adam, please share your youthful energy and alien-like supernatural life-force with me. Please imbue me with even an iota of your talent, and may it spread to my vocal cords as well.”

Either that, or it was “OMFG I’m standing next to him, my Idol of singing and out-ness and fierceness, and please oh please hold me up or I will fall over.”

    Either scenario works for me.

  37. cwm says:

I thought the reach-out and hand hold was very touching. I interpret Cyndi reaching out to Adam as a spontaneous moment of human connection, affection, and support in a song about pain and isolation. (And also a stamp of approval, as kradamour suggested.) It was clearly spontaneous on Cyndi’s part and Adam wasn’t expecting it. I didn’t think he took long to respond at all – he had to transfer the mic to the other hand, and then gracefully and deliberately reached out to take her hand in keeping with the slow tempo and emotion of the song. I didn’t see it as awkward at all – but rather graceful and emotional.

And the smile, kiss, and hug at the end was beyond lovely. As someone on the TALCvid said in a comment on the vid, “Man, if everyone could get folded up in a hug and kiss like that from Adam, there would be no illness or sadness left anywhere in the world.”

  38. cwm says:

    LOL mils!

  39. milwlovesadam says:

I actually loved the Mad World. WWFM seemed rushed, but good. I’m just such a fan of the slower version we have been hearing this year.

I’m also so pleased to see how Adam seeing his Glamberts was so reassuring to him.

Jeepers, doesn’t he know that the show sold out because of him? Honestly, if my kids were in New York this year, I would have been there too. Would have made it a combo trip.

  40. rs says:

Adam got almost 1000 new twitter followers since yesterday. I wonder how many are from the concert last night. Cool

  41. rs says:

For those of you who didn’t follow American Idol during Adam’s season, Cyndi Lauper appeared in the final and did a beautiful and very generous duet of Time After Time with Adam’s “little sister” Allison Irahita. Along with Adam and Queen it was a highlight of the show. She might even be following his career since then. Here is a reminder.

Hello everyone… Got back from NYC about an hour ago.
TlKC gave an excellent recap. What I’ll do right now is do a play by play of the artists (short & sweet). I was actually trying to write things down so I wouldn’t forget anything because it seemed such a long time until Adam came on.
    1. Sarah McLachlan. my favorite of the night after Adam. First song I was unfamiliar with but the second was her signature “In the Arms of an Angel”.
    2. Whoopi…she only talked a couple of minutes but joked it was nice to hear Sarah’s song without the sad video in the background for once. (the ASPCA one if you remember).
    3. Cyndi talked about the cause.
    4. A troupe called “Ballet With A Twist”. About 10 dancers doing ballet with a rock background. Was ok but I think they needed more practice.
    5. Carson Kressly. Was pretty much the MC. Funny. Have always liked him. From Queer Eye For the Straight Guy.
    6. Counting Crows Adam Duretz & his guitar player. Did 2 loooooonnnnnggggg songs. Some people liked them, though. They said they just figured out what to sing before they came on stage. Hmmmmmm. I paid for this? Neutral
    7. The lesbian hard rock guitar group. Lotsa noise.
8.Robert Flack. Did two songs. First one I never heard of so I can’t tell you the name. Second one, she’s on piano, was Hey Jude. OK. Thank goodness only 4 (I counted lol) na na na na na na na….na na na na Hey Jude! McCartney goes on forever!
    9. Rosie O’Donnell. Told the whole looonnnggg story about her heart attack. Then Rosie & Cyndi bantered a bit back & forth and sang Santa Baby.
    10. Billy Porter. Some guy that’s in Cyndi’s play about shoes (?) coming out in the spring. Nice voice. One song.
    11. St Vincent….hated this one. The lead singer gal was just not my cuppa.
    12. Terry Nunn…used to be with the group Berlin. She sang Take My Breathe Away. Very nice.
    13. Melanie Fiona..disco/rap with 2 backup dancers (wearing thongs lol). I liked the act.
    14. The Exec Director talking about the True Colors Foundation
    15. Surprise Guest…Jason Mraz. Not my cuppa either. Got a nice reception. First one to sing a Christmas song (other than Santa Baby).
    16. Another surprise…Carmen Electra & her backup dancers. Was like a Pussycat Doll show. Not a crowd for this. Very little reception.
Then Adam……I do believe he got the biggest cheers, shouts, whistles & crowd love. I’m not just saying this either.
So that’s it for now unless I can think of anything else. It is hard to sit through so many acts waiting for only one. And the pre-show glambert party was the biggest, loudest & craziest I’ve ever been to! And this is knowing Adam will only be singing 2 songs!!! Amazing. Met many new people. I wish Adamized & her sister could have been there but they came later in the day & it was on to the theater by then.

  44. ultimathule says:

    At the after party, asif?

  45. luval says:

btw I listed to the WWFM youtubes & didn’t heat the guitarist’s bum note, but several people I talked to coming out of the theater noticed it. It was so obvious to me in person. Another example of youtubes not necessarily sounding like the real thing.

I heard the bad note, luval – it was so obvious in one of the vids – at about 2:44 – forget which one. Like chalk on a blackboard – big fail on the part of that guitarist.

*BUUUUUURRRRRRP* That Garfield-sized burp was me after digesting both the audio livestream of Adam, and then aaaalll the goodies here. YUUUUMMMM.
Faves: Andy’s intro of Adam, so sweet! As TLKC pointed out, having him almost at the end, signifying major draw! Audience reaction!!! Lovely slow Mad World duet and hug. And sharing the intro of Cyndi with Carson!
Have to confess, didn’t like the end of the duet until I heard it on the TALC vid, which for me had the best sound, and there was a good balance with both voices.
LEAVING FOR SAN FRANCISCO ON THURSDAY, CAN.NOT.WAIT!!! ADAM is the headliner – have NO idea what we will get, but I want it all anyway.
