I just had the sweetest email from mlg, she wanted me to share with everyone that was there how much she enjoyed seeing everyone again and meeting some for the first time. She is going away on a short vacation, and wanted me to help her post. She’s been working every second since she got back to Chicago.

And, when Adam tours, and comes to Chicago, she wants to join the party!

    Here’s my email so far:

Hello, I just wanted to give a little feedback about the day and show at Water Works Park. Mainly positive, but some areas that needed improvement.

    1) I had a VIP ticket and had to stand in line with GA. I have never had to do this before at any venue, and I have been to a lot of concerts all over, many states. Every show I have ever been to where there were VIP, Golden Circle, what have you, there was a separate gate, separate entrance, separate line.

    [Scott Allen] Great suggestions.

    2) The guys handing out wristbands didn’t understand what they were for. Somebody did go and tell them later. (response )Agreed.

    3) The VIP area was great. The tent came in very very handy during the storm and the bathroom was fantastic. I did ask the gal at the water tub to re-stock TP, and, she did right away. ( Response)Excellent. Glad you enjoyed.

    4) The food was delicious. We were all so surprised at how good it was. Thank you for providing healthy options and good quality VIP food. It helped make the price of the ticket extra worth it. ( Response)This was an area where we definitely wanted to over-deliver and make everyone happy. I’m glad you noticed.

    5) Nobody knew what the line-up was. There were no posters hung up anywhere. It was all a guessing game all day. A suggestion would be to have several copies laminated and hung in obvious places, like at gates, tents, booths. One of my friends asked about it, and a guy showed her a line-up on a clipboard and told her to take a picture of it. Hunh? ( Response)The line up is always in question – as you noticed that day. Again, great suggestion. With 8 bands, we have we’re subject to airlines, ground transportation – and the artists schedule. We certainly weren’t trying to keep the times a secret, in fact, we made this information available on our website and via facebook/twitter in the weeks leading up to the show. It was always done with a “subject to change” note attached.

    6) There was a mom who was separated from her daughter early on because she was 16. The mom had bought 2 VIP’s. I don’t think she was compensated for the tickets. And, later on, during the Neon Trees set, a group showed up, dragged many ( over 10) chairs from the tent in very close to the catwalk, forcing those of us who had been there since the gates opened to cram our bag chairs really close together.

Oh, and they had several young kids with them. The mom who was forced to be separated from her kid was uber, and I mean, very , pissed off. Just saying.

    7) As the day wore on, many acts were running over and the whole show looked like it was running late. It was 7:15 when Neon Trees ended. And the reason I was there , Adam, was supposed to go on at 7. Then came the car give-away crap-fest.

So, what’s my point? Here it is. I am not a cray Glambert. But, I am a huge fan. There were literally hundreds of fans for Adam specifically that traveled huge distances to see him, and his set was advertised for an hour. May I also say that most likely 90% of the VIP and Golden Circle tickets sold were for Adam. If anybody noticed a lot of people wearing yellow and black, it was for Adam’s album colors. His fans tend to buy big. And that means lots of merch and lots of big cost tickets. He was only on for 45 minutes. Neon Trees was on waaay over their set time.

Why was Adam’s set shortened? [Scott Allen] With 8 bands, stuff happens. It’s a lot to cram in to a day. Again, it’s not just Adam we have to worry about…we have 7 other artists and need to be sensitive to ALL of their travel schedules, ground transportation schedules, and their individual needs on site and at hotels leading up to the show. The published schedule always said “subject to change.” Unfortunately, even the most well constructed plans are almost always adjusted day of show when you’re working with this many artists. Obviously, we learned a few things along the way ourselves.

He was NOT late. We all saw him watching Neon Trees. He was there and ready.

I asked a “manager” looking gentleman about it at the VIP tent during Train’s set, and his response was “well, he’s only had two hits.”

[Scott Allen] Certainly not an appropriate comment. I personally sought out Adam Lambert to get him on this show.

And Neon Trees? How many hits have they had? Granted, they are not my cuppa, but he does work hard, rocks hard. Still, his set was long. It should have been cut, if it looked at all like Adam’s would be cut. And, Train seemed to go long too.

I really would like some feedback.

    8) On a positive note, to a person, every single staff member working was polite, cordial and friendly. They even wiped the ice water off the water bottles. Unbelievable. ( Response)Happy to hear this. Thank you.

    Looking forward to your response.

PS. I drove from Milwaukee, by way of Chicago to pick up a friend, and met people from the Dakotas, Minnesota, and California to see Adam. There were others there from many states. I love him, he was mere feet from me, he does not disappoint, but, 45 minutes?? Seriously, that’s 25% less than advertised.

[Scott Allen] Again, subject to change.
    From me:

Scott, thanks so much for your answers. I do appreciate it, and will share them with my friends. We did have a wonderful day, the only problem we really had was with Neon Trees running long and Adam being cut short. The kids in VIP area is definitely something you need to iron out, though.

    From me:

I’m glad to hear that you sought out Adam. He is one helluva performer, isn’t he? Have you caught any of his gigs with Queen online? Unbelievable. I think you’d agree.

    From him:

I have – amazing! Thanks again for your comments. We don’t get better without people like you taking the time to let us know your thoughts and concerns. So, thank you for taking time to write.

  3. goatiegarden says:

Mils, Nice job with dead-on constructive feedback for the radio station. Decent responses from Scott Allen, although not the greatest response for Adam’s time cut short. Hopefully never to happen again!

  4. ultimathule says:

“Subject to change” – know what Scott Allen can do with that. If he thinks Adam is so great, then cut somebody else. Still pissed.

But, thanks again, mils, you did a terrific job.

  5. milwlovesadam says:

    Thanks goatie and ultimat..

Goatie, I wonder how it all turned out for that mom and daughter who were separated?

  6. jlurksacto says:

Scott Allen from the radio station, sucking up the compliments
and side-stepping complaints. Doing the PR thing. Nice job
Mils in staying sane. I couldn’t have responded civilly.

  7. milwlovesadam says:

    Thanks jlurks.

  8. ultimathule says:

Phonies like Scott Allen are all over radio – waiting for the day when it no longer has the power it has now. With today’s technology, it’s bound to happen.

  9. milwlovesadam says:

Hey guys, he responded to my emails very quickly, and very cordially. Of course he needs to be fair and not show favoritism. I would have liked a more specific answer about why Adam’s set was cut short, but, he is a PR guy. Oh well.

  10. milwlovesadam says:

From me:You’re welcome. Hey, as long as I have your ear, two things: Adam’s fans have been sharing an on-air clip of your guy that drove him to the airport on Sunday. So funny!! And a question, what do you think is the reason Adam doesn’t get airplay for Trespassing? To his fans, and to print media he has nothing but rave reviews. His CD is on so many “best of 2012 ” lists, etc. So why no radio play? I’m really curious. Thanks.

From him: Hi —. Honestly, can’t speak to why other stations aren’t supporting Adam. We have typically been on the leading edge of stations playing his music. And, happy to do so too .

Good to hear about the Woz segment. It was pretty funny.
