After months of waiting, get ready for “The Original High” this month. We’ve been treated with 4 songs already but are anxious to hear the full album. Adam is out promoting at various radio stations, on TV and doing phone interviews. With “Ghost Town” slowly moving up the charts, it will be interesting to see if TOH becomes Adam’s second number one album. With timely appearances on TV during the week of the album release, his casual fans should be aware of the new music and help generate sales. Here’s hoping to a successful launch and that it leads to a solo tour!

    I just spent over an hour detailing practically every moment of what happened today from the time I got up at 2:10am to my meeting with Adam and being with TLKC and M and P.

    When I clicked on post comment, I was prompted to sign in.

    I WAS signed in when I started the comment, WordPress!!!

    So, everything that I wrote to share with you was lost when I had to sign in again.

    Really Pissed

    Needless to say, it was a wonderful day and I’ll tell you all about it again soon.

    asif, you are too much girl. Speaking of OUT, I remember with a grin how I “outed” you as a Glambert in Chicago by calling you when I was in Chicago!!! So funny!!

    My mom asked me tonight if I still follow him. LOLOL. When she called I was listening to an interview! She wondered what he has been up to lately. I said, new album, top 3 on Billboard, Fallon Kelly, GMA, award shows, interviews, press, so, YES, I still follow him. ” Oh, but, he still wears makeup, right?” No mom, he stopped, he’s just naturally handsome now.

    We were just driving into Chicago downtown .. about 5 minutes away from the Hotel and the Greek Restaurant. It was a 10 hour drive.
    You are my first lady … the very first ALLER I’ve met. Thanks for the call and the oust. Heart I didn’t have the courage.

    That trip to QAL Chicago was somewhat disappointing to me. I wanted to meet, mingle, bert, and babble with all of you more. Party Clap ROTFL

    The dynamic of DH, DD and me changed when my S-I-L tagged along. She was a pearl clutcher and thought that I was a groupie. She loves country music.
    So 10 hours in the car …
    Instead of the Head bangs … I got all the head twangs!!! Frown

    My daughter and I had practiced the headbangs before the trip. We watched many YouTube videos .. started from Wayne’s World -BOH RAP. Grin

    OH!!! ETA: LUCY IS A GOOD HEAD BANG SONG FOR ME NOW. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!!!!

    Sparkle, looks like four options up your way. Plus the lottery? If you google all the locations and work out a strategy map it certainly seems do-able that you could manage an encounter. Traffic in DC is wretched, though, and parking is worse. Baltimore could be more promising.

    Tricky schedule, though. The Balto interview w/o a M&G seems like the best option for a more personal encounter, but there is no time after it to catch up with him because of the tight time frame for him to get to the next station. Before that interview could be good to try for an encounter, and then when he goes in to do that interview you could hustle to the 4pm promo station and get there before him and very likely get in for that.
    I would call the Balto 4pm M&G station tomorrow morning, too, just to see if they have additional tickets or would succumb to your entreaties, you never know. Nothing ventured nothing gained!

    Thanks so much sistakrads for thinking of me. I’ve been checking out Z104.3’s website – no mention of the Adam event! Odd! If I’m doing this by myself, Baltimore is only an hour away and much more doable than DC. I’ll keep you posted!

    Mils, I well remember your angst over whether to go to that Chicago promo, and your disappointment after the fact when you learned that you would have been able to get in. I think that your experience has inspired many of us to learn from that example and just go for it, even in non-Adam related situations.

    I think Adam is doing something on Sat. 27 June also. Will wait for videos then. I still haven’t watched all of the performances or interviews yet.

    Hi mils! I also read the info in the link that skaschep provided and I think the poster was saying that Amazon doesn’t report to HDD but they do report to Soundscan. (Billboard’s numbers are from Soundscan.) The BB report will be 99% accurate.

    Skaschep is the best person to clear that up but that’s my read.

    The comments on People and Billboard articles about the OUT interview have really bothered me, so I posted a reply to one of the commenters on Billboard. Here it is:

    Adam Lambert is talking about the specific experience of coming out in the heat of first fame. 2009 was a weird time. For years the media had been too polite to ask about sexuality. It was all about hints. Elton John and George Michael came out after years of press innuendo and when they were fully established. Then, all of a sudden, the push for marriage equality made sexuality much more of a public conversation and Glee certainly put the subject front-and-centre as an entertainment industry story. Add in Perez Hilton etc.

    The public reaction, especially from Idol fans, was actually quite good but Adam experienced a backlash from some prominent people in the LGBTQ media and the break in solidarity was probably unexpected and must have hurt . A gay writer from New York magazine actually complained that he was “obscenely gay” on Idol. Richard Lawson’s weekly reviews were disgusting. An awful lot of gay journalists gratuitously announced that they didn’t watch Idol but they were glad he lost.

    OUT wasn’t very nice either. They were obviously angry that Adam didn’t treat them as the “go-to” publication for coming out. They had provided very valuable support for years to celebrities who wanted to come out. Adam’s decision to go with Rolling Stone was the first indication that changing attitudes towards sexuality might mean that mainstream media would want to play a role that had previously been pretty much theirs alone.

    Adam was also a clear indicator that the upcoming generation might not be as conflicted and in need of hand-holding as prior generations. It is a given that even as people rejoice at new found freedoms they are a little bit envious of how much easier it is for younger ones. It particularly galls if the younger ones don’t seem particularly appreciative of how hard fought the gains are.

    I would bet you anything that the most prominent LGBTQ media people who condemned Adam for not coming out during the show would have run to the Human Rights Commission in a New York minute if they had been asked about their sexuality in the middle of a job interview. What was Idol but one extended and very public job interview?

    When you look at how Frank Ocean, Sam Smith and other artists have seized the initiative and owned their professional coming out since then, it is obvious that they and their management have learned from what happened to Adam Lambert. That is a blueprint of sorts and it would have been nice if Adam had had it.

    Sorry to be so long-winded but I set aside some time this morning to catch up on speculation about SCOTUS pending decision on Marriage Equality, which may come as early as tomorrow. The US is at 60% acceptance for ME and if you think a kid who sang his way into the hearts of a very large, very traditional and mainstream audience in 2009 didn’t contribute to some of that change, well, with all due respect, I think that you are wrong.

    I hope that Adam finds it, or that it is brought to his attention. I especially appreciated your point that Idol has all the elements of a job interview.
    Perfect opening, perfect closing. I think you very fairly presented the early response from the gay community to Adam. That must have been such a WTF time for him…but he handled it with surprising grace at the time.
