After months of waiting, get ready for “The Original High” this month. We’ve been treated with 4 songs already but are anxious to hear the full album. Adam is out promoting at various radio stations, on TV and doing phone interviews. With “Ghost Town” slowly moving up the charts, it will be interesting to see if TOH becomes Adam’s second number one album. With timely appearances on TV during the week of the album release, his casual fans should be aware of the new music and help generate sales. Here’s hoping to a successful launch and that it leads to a solo tour!

    Important info from Q3 at Adamtopia:

    A reminder — time to forget about YouTube and focus on Spotify and other streaming music sources counted for the Billboard 200 Chart.

    VIDEO STREAMING ONLY COUNTS FOR THE SINGLES CHART!! SPOTIFY COUNTS FOR BOTH ALBUMS AND SINGLES.

    If there ever was a time to try free Spotify, now is the time. It is easy. And it looks like it is going to matter.

    >> James Taylor’s album is selling a lot and having a very strong presale. He has not recent history with studio albums but his demo and fans buy music.

    >> And then there is Nate!

    Adam will have an advantage over both in Track Sales and Streaming. He may need it.

    The “Ghost Town” streams will count toward both Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart and the Hot 200 album chart. NOTE: There is no extra value in streaming any individual song on the album except “Ghost Town”!

    I think I’m going to strictly Spotify starting at midnight. I might just alternate playing GT only for half an hour and shift to the full CD for another 30 minutes.

    James Taylor has been doing extremely well on Amazon. He is also selling on his website.

    I have bought the clean and explicit GT tracks on both versions of the CD so those options are out. Q3 says there are 6 ways to buy it. What are the 5th and 6th?

    Just to put things in perspective. Fun and Monsters and Men put out CD’s in 2012 and neither sold as well as Trespassing in their first week:

    OF MONSTERS AND MEN (April 2012)
    Week One = 55,000 – – – Final Sales = 1,093,000

    FUN (February 2012)
    Week One = 21, 2012 – – – Final Sales = 1,600,000

    The importance of a hit single cannot be underestimated. Stream Ghost Town as much as you can.

    Yeah!!! CD arrived, I’ve ordered 3 from different sources. I hope one of them is the clean version for grandkids.I don’t know what I ordered but the one I received is deluxe explicit.
    So, so much better on a half-way decent stereo.
    I’ll still do the spotify thing. I have made a playlist of all the songs so I can leave the whole album on repeat.

    Yeah, Kiwi! I’m good with Spotify, can’t get itunes to download properly, but I love me some actual CD sonics, so there’s a Best Buy and Target nearby, and I can make it to both next week.

    Strange to see one of the posters over at MJ’s, whose log on starts with an “I”, actually posted a couple of times in different Adam threads – both wishing him well and defending, to some degree, his nail polish. IIRC, she was very unpleasant on some other blog space about him, and usually avoids his threads completely. Could this be an indication that Adam is changing hearts and minds of the truly Adam “challenged”? Shock

    I agree Tothebeat, I’ve noticed on a couple of sites I read that the anti-ites are def. softening. They are pleased that his vocals are stripped back a bit and to the forefront in the songs.

    Debating whether Adam would have more fans at his B&N signing than James Taylor, a fan posted the following:

    “I spoke with the B&N he is signing at and they told me they are getting more calls about the Adam signing than the Union Square B&N got for Hillary.”

    The Amazon stream is gone. Too bad. It would have been nice if we could have streamed it today. NVM.

    The HDD sales for this week will come through starting at 11:00 and I will post it here. Muse will be #1 and it will be interesting to see how well they do. Also Taylor Swift seems good for about 30,000 per week in sales and 65-70,000 when you add in plus streaming charts.

    Something to think about: we can each stream TOH tracks 1500 times this week for the equivalent of one CD sale or we can go out and buy another CD. Laugh

    Based on iTunes and Amazon rankings James Taylor is the man to beat this week and we might as well prepare ourselves for that.

    It’s not etched in stone, luval but James Taylor is certainly finishing strong on the Amazon hard copy pre-sells charts. Both the deluxe and the regular are Top5. We don’t know exactly when he started pre-selling. It is also likely that his fans aren’t starting line purchasers – they are more likely to buy in their own good time. Glamberts are early pre-purchasers and first week hard copy buyers so we will see.

    I just checked on my Amazon.com order of TOH and it is definitely coming from the US. It’s being shipped by Amazon’s export division.

    I would like to buy one from Amazon.ca but am afraid that it might trigger someone at this end to notice that the US division is stealing one of their sales. Grin

    It won’t arrive until June 25-July 2nd so it may not make the first week sales.

    from Adamtopia:

    Playing the YT video if you are in the US is fine. Playing an audio stream that Billboard uses for both the Album and Singles chart is much better.

    If you are in the US — Spotify, Rdio, Google Play, Rhapsody, Beats all are free or have free trials and count for both the ALBUM and SINGLE. For example, one Spotify “Ghost Town” stream counts twice!! Please stream “Ghost Town” and “Ghost Town” Official Remixes. Also every Spotify stream counts. Not every YT play counts.

    Also streaming matters in the UK were you need to stream all the album tracks, not just “Ghost Town”.

    If you are in Canada, streaming does not count for the Canadian Billboard charts, and may not be very influential in radio programming decisions. Spotify and iTunes Canada (sales) appear to be the most influential to PD’s in Canada.

    Playing the YT video is fine, streaming a qualifying audio stream is better, doing both is the best! (Just use a couple of tabs.)
