Kradamour, I am sorry about my English. I did not know it came off that bad. Hope it was not so difficult for you to understand my post anyway. I would appreciate if you could point out those english fails to me next time , so I could learn and be better at them.
As for your post, I agree with some of your points. I do not agree though that two of your friends not liking the album, means we as fans are probably seeing things with the fan’s goggles on. No music is universally loved. It is the majority opinion about it that carries the weight and matters.
Adele is almost at 10m albums sold in the US alone. Her album metacriticns score would show even she has her own critics. For example the same publication that recently gave Adam a 5/10 metacritic score gave her the same score. Despite this, the general tone has been Adam made a great album of brilliant pop tunes.
Miss Chaos… Your opinions are far from stupid!!!!
Btw how is that little furry howler Trespassing doing?
ultimathule, yes he does. Do you know artists like Jason Derulo, the wanted, Flo rida, David Gueta, Train, Jlo etc hardly sell that many albums despite their constantly being on the radio? Jason Derulo I think opened this era with less than 20,000 albums with 2 top 10 radio hits.
To me Adam has proved with his sales he can sell if given the right exposure. I am impressed he is actually selling averagely good with no hit single on the radio, as usually your song on the radio gives the exposure to move your albums and he has nothing of such.
Wow. Trying to digest all this.
I agree with most of sisi’s post. Thanks for the courage to write all that. And kradamour, I agree with you too. And everyone else. Let’s agree to disagree when necessary.
I do think we are over-invested, we are exposed to everything the guy does and says. I do feel that he had quite a bit of hesitancy about the choice of NCOE as the single. Before that he seemed to mention Cuckoo and Shady as his preferences several times. None of us knows what goes on behind the scenes, the pressure and influences for single choice must be enormous.
I would like to clarify my use of the word “desperate.” What I meant was not directed at him mentioning the CD or encouraging people to buy it, or it’s release date. He needs to sell his CD. Rather, I saw an urgency in his performance, an extra hard effort to “perform” that I had never seen before. We have become so accustomed to super loosey-goosey and fluid Adam with easy going “I just love to perform” grace, that I just saw something different at G-A-Y. I was reading between the lines, and presumed myself to know him and his body language and performing style better than average because of my obsessive fandom. Mea culpa if I upset anyone with my use of the word “desperate.
In the meantime, he was on MTV this morning, I missed it, but, it will pop up somewhere for me/us to see it. So, even when in Europe, he still has visibility here. Yay.
Oh, and my “one hit wonder” reference was exactly what I meant. Most people who don’t follow him like we do, only know about two things: The AMA’s and WWFM. IIHY was a lesser hit. It just didn’t get as much airplay or have the legs that WWFM had. My local station still had WWFM in its regular rotation until 2 weeks ago. No BTIKM or NCOE in my fairly large city at all yet. Not even a Bruno Mars connection can get Adam on the radio here. If it isn’t Pitbull or other such crap, it doesn’t get airplay.
And, if indeed sales are not connected to airplay, then I am just stumped. A number one CD getting minimal airplay just doesn’t make sense. Gay or straight.
A lot of times it takes becoming familiar with songs to get them and start loving them. There have been many albums that I now love that have taken many listens to get there.
Adam’s album is great, not based on fanbase reaction, but on all the critical acclaim it has received.
I also am stumped on radio airplay.

It shows how all media is now controlled by six conglomerates and the effect it has on radio airplay.
apal, trying to figure out how to read the article you posted, can you give a more specific link?
Exactly what I meant milwlovesadam. I still don’t believe how a no.1 album can struggle for radio spins. If they needed sales as a motivation to play him as some think (which is not necassarily a requirement for other artists), he already proved that with his no.1 album sale and subsequent weeks sales. Therefore something else must the be reason why.
As for GAY, I watched those videos and enjoyed them. I did not see much desperation in his performances at all and I respect your opinion. Who knows if there was truely desperation, if he did that because he was supposedly performing to an audience of gay guys that has not always been his audience demo and was therefore trying to impress them and win them over? His performance style to his mainly female audience might be much more relaxed because he knows those already love him? Who knows also if he did that because it was a club setting and his british management team was at hand to watch the show? Like you said, we don’t always know every behind the scene detail.
Lastly people might know him with just WWFM, but I am sure others that the song interest enough to find out who is behind it might possibly goggle him and get to see he is not a one hit wonder? It is true that is his most popular song, but what is fact is, he scored more than one hit. Whether radio grudingly gave him a semi hit or not, it is still a hit. Top 20 hit is a chart term that categorizes some of the hits. Not every song is a top 5 or 10 hit. Top 20 are seen to be moderate hits too although not in the same category as the first two.
I personally believe radio willingness to continue spinning the song is because that was the safest Adam full of angst single. The flamboyance in IIHY and ‘eyeliner’ and other stuffs might be another way of saying no to a gay teamed song from a real gay being popular on the radio, hence why they hardly spin that.
OK, after all this discussion, can anyone just ask a Radio station or two, why Adams new release isnt being played? They can say its not requested, because as you all know, the Glamberts request it, and they played on some of those games that his song beat, and hes so popular on all the contests, that he wins, and he went to all the radio stations and the DJS all loved him, and on and on. But I still hold to the fact that you can sing along with WWFM, hell I even can and I cant sing, you just cant sing along with BTIKM or NCOE to an effect. Actually singing along to Trespassing is fun, lol. But in the long run does it matter? As said, he is really popular in the industry, Queen,Slash, Elton John, Meatloaf, Adam Shanklman, producer, heck who knows if he can make a movie and have Adam sing in it. Look at the big surprise of the EMA awards, Adam telling us he might be there, the boy can keep secrets!!!!!
Little furball Trespass, is a handful, smart for training, but he only will pee and poop in the pen outside, thank god its on concrete, not letting the little guy in the house till he can hold it, lol.
Mils, Sorry don’t know how to link as I obviously didn’t get it here. Go to MJ’s Countdown thread. Jean posted it there.

Here is the link to current top 50 songs on the POP radio format – http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pop&action=display&thread=112968&page=30.
It gets updated daily, so if you scroll down you would see today’s radio updates for example.
I posted this to prove it is not true that radio has to see how many units you’ve have sold of your single, before they start adding your song. A lot of the songs charting top 50 already are not even in the overall top 200 songs on iTunes.
Don’t forget to note that is just one radio format i.e. POP chart. Most of these songs like I earlier said are on multiple radio formats from Urban, AC; HAC etc for example at the same time. It means when you add up the number of people that hear this song daily, they are probably close to 100 to 200million people.
*Aud – stands for the no. of hears reached daily
*Aud+ – means the additional audience that gets added with each additional spin from the radio. Sometimes the no. could be negative if the song is being spun just at nights or is already loosing radio spins and peaking or stalling.
*iTunes – Of course tells its rank on iTunes. Something interesting to note here is, not all of the songs charting have a healthy iTunes sale. Some are even not in the top overall 300 on iTunes eg Stefano and some other ones you would find out by yourself.
*Spins – means its total spins on that format (POP in this case)
*Spin+ – Shows additional increases in spins a particular song gets daily. This could also be negative sometimes. Usually healthy songs are not supposed to loose but gain spins as loosing might mean it it peaking/stalling.
*Bullet – Tells about how healthy its spins gain is.
*Bullet+ – Tells about whether its spins are increasing at the same rate it was gaining same time the previous day. When a song with a big bullet suddenly looses it, that could signal the end of the song on the radio most of the time i.e. reaching its radio play peak.
NB: Too long an essay, I know. Pretty bare with me, Just wanted to pass some radio information to those that might be interested instead of just making wide guesses based on our imaginations.

Miss Chaos, if singing along to a tune is the problem, I bet a lot of rap songs that dominate the airwaves would not be there. Rapping just like technical good singing Adam is noted for is something that can be done just by a few. Those rap songs get played all the time despite this liability. In fact Pitbull is on virtually every song released to the radio these days.
And it is not according to requests as I gave examples of those imported British artists and boybands no one knew about that instantly get radio love. Definetly nobody is requesting an unknown song by an unknown artist. It makes sense that home artists with a bit of popularity would have more inbuilt fans to request than those entirely unknown. Yet radio spins them without requests and generate fans who later request those songs for them.
Z100 NY added one UK Xfactor graduate again two weeks ago – Olly Murs claiming he was hot and in demand. I am sure nobody in the US knows of his hotness and being in demand or else his song would be starting out at no.1 on iTunes or at least be in the top 100 already. See what I mean?
I am not sure if we have seen this, I know i hadn’t seen it before.

This is the last I’m going to say on this subject unless I decide to have an opinion which is what this or any blog is about.
Miss chaos. I did get a return e-mail from the music director at my local station after requesting NCOE several times. He said there was no room for it. That they didn’t even have room to play songs from artists that were doing better than Adam. But he would bring it up at the next meeting with the program director. And that is it!!! Amen.
sisi, just curious, what is your standing on Adam, and whether he gets played on the radio or not? Are you upset with the radio, the songs, the DJs or what other factors are you concerned with. I appreciate you and the whole discussion, and since we cant get banned here, lolol, we can say most anything for or against our artist, who happens to be Adam, lol, or other posters, and we can have a civil discussion, as far as I know
luval, I love your opinions!
Please keep expressing them.
glambotgram, thanks so much for the link. That is out and out scary sh*t. Big Brother indeed.
So, since radio play makes no sense at all and is not directly linked to sales, maybe it works in reverse. maybe there is a “plan” ( Not gonna use the word conspiracy )to sometimes put on air songs/singers and then hope it ties in to sales?
And, singles sales vs CD’s is a huge factor.
Over on MJ’s I read that Seacrest is vying to buy Dick Clark productions and is also considering a re-boot of American Bandstand. That would be all kinds of awesome. And good PR for entertainers/music.
Know what else I wish for? A show that would only feature, let’s say, top 12 contestants from all the shows like Idol and Voice, and have them promote and perform their post-show stuff. Kind of a “where are they now and what are they doing?”
May I also say how much I love the interaction here? The free exchange of ideas without name calling and anger/hate. So refreshing. Whenever I see that, even at places we all love to go go, it is just so out of order.
ALL. The true Neapolitan ice cream. Many distinct flavors all in one box.
Miss chaos, my stand on Adam is that, he is a very talented artist that is being descriminated against on the basis of his sexuality by the radio owners.
If you read thoroughly through my posts, you would have noticed my anger was at radio and maybe a little at some fans buying into the radio lying tales. To be honest, I am not really angry at the latter though as I understand not every fan understands or follows radio like some of us stans that monitor his numbers progress on a daily basis.
Thank the Lord we cannot get banned here. It means people can freely express their opinions in a civil manner without the fear of an impending ban hammer.
LOVE that Whole Foods pic, nkd!
LOL photo shopped again http://twitpic.com/9x3hw5
Luval, not to draw you out of your break from this discussion, but I have been cracking my brain and do not know any artist doing better than Adam either with sales or a no. 1 album in the country struggling for radio play.
Do you or does anyone know any artist that fits into this description? I really want to be able to understand how that person is doing vis a vis Adam and by so doing better.
Love that picture!!
That’s a very big……
Chair!!
LOL
John Mayer.
John Mayer is unfortunately not marketed to POP radio as a core artist. His song has been on AC and HAC for forever since around February or so ( oops I just checked, I think his song has already peaked, but I am very sure it is still receiving substantial recurrent play on the radio being Mayer). He was one of the artists that flew past BTIKM within a few weeks of release when his song came out. He doesn’t have a problem with radio as he is a core established HAC artist that recieves top notch treatment like Train and co do on HAC.
This is the information I got from Saga’s website. She posts Adam daily radio charts used by Adamtopia for example:
As at April 10, John Mayer was already 14 on HAC with an audience impression of about 8 million people. Note his song came out months after Adam, yet he still flew past him on the chart and his audience impression already doubled that of Adam at his 17 HAC peak even at that stage when he (Mayer) was 14.
http://adaminradioland.wordpress.com/page/8/
I don’t have the details of his AC chart as Saga does not really post that in details. What I am saying is he is one of the established radio acts that get airplay on his primarily HAC/AC formats no matter what. If Daughtry could get a top 10 peak, I am sure radio treats Mayer better than that.
Adam is marketed to POP though, so we can say he doesn’t get support on his primary format and neither is HAC jumping with joy to play him.
sisi, I am a language teacher, so it is easy for me to pick up the clues that someone is not a native speaker. Your English is excellent.
They did like it, very much. And liked Adam on Idol a lot. But I got the feeling that they won’t really play the album again, they listened because they were curious and because I asked them to. But I think it is pretty much “out of
sightear, out of mind” now that it has been listened to.We gift these CDs (I have bought about 10, and many fans have bought more than that) but if the music isn’t on the radio I think they get put aside after a listen, assuming that they get that listen.
Exactly.
If only critical reviews would = airplay.
And why the h*ll don’t they?!?!?!?!
I think that for me, this is the other piece of the puzzle.
We know that sales don’t equal airplay.
Requests don’t equal airplay.
Okay, I get that. We stupid fans don’t know what is good enough to put on the radio. (eye roll)
But I totally don’t get how critical acclaim does not affect what goes on the radio.
Good music on the radio should equal more listeners.
So if objectively good music is not being played to attract more listeners, there must be something else at play.
And that “something else” is not being good for Adam.
short story to add to the mix—
was reviewing thr “top 20” on vh1 with my granddaughter and watched the #1 video by some Carly girl which she just loved–kind of a Taylor Swift song about call me to a good looking young man next door and short story of video, kept trying to get his attention and when she did, he watched her and band performing and ended up giving his phone number to the GUY in the band!!!!! this went right by my granddaughter—-Also anyone else still waiting for Fault magazine?????
Shout Out to Miss Chaos over the name of your new dog!!!!! My Oliver just got another haircut and we stayed with the “Adam” look!!!!!
To contribute a bit of good news to the radio airplay discussion, Siruis XM 20 on 20 has been spinning the hell out of NCOE this week, 71 spins which is good for #7 on that station’s spin chart. Up from zero spins the previous week. 20 on 20 is playing the song far more than any other station at this point, the next station in the list is WKRZ Wilkes-Barre with 27 spins in the past week.
The XM spins may be helping to stabilize album sales a bit, its been holding around #30 on iTunes pop for a week now, and its rate of decline on Amazon best sellers has slowed considerably, only dropped from the mid 70s to #80 in the past week.
YAY!!! Eywflyer. Thanks for the news and I noticed that too! I pray they continue to support the song. They ‘Sirius’ were also a major BTIKM supporter.
How I wish those stations Adam did radio concerts for would support him more eg. Chicagow, Phil and New York.
Anyway, I am happy it is at least moving on POP. Some chart watchers are projecting it might break top 50 this coming weekend at the latest.
I know, the more we complain, the more Adams songs move up
LOLOLOL
OK. I cave. Enough angst and woe for one day.
Adam found Whole Foods and buckwheat ( my favorite kind of pancake FWIW, but he probably just put buckwheat groats on his salad, LOL).
A fan found him there, and got a pic. And, dammit, he looks stage ready while getting a SALAD!! I’m not sure he’s human. Maybe he is an alien after all, like in MIB.!!
I’m gonna take it all out on my treadmill. Went to WW and am in a plateau. AARGH!! Think I need to hit the kale and veggies and fiber/grains harder this week.
Adam had an event this morning so I am sure he was coming home from this so he probably was stage ready.
The love affair between Adam and Whole Foods continues
josephine, I’m still waiting on my Fault magazines. I’m sure it’s because I live in a desolate outpost from society in the 4th largest city in the US!
Adam and Whole Foods, and Home Planet
http://www.thehomeplanet.org/2012/06/the-epic-love-story-continues/
sisi: Your English is excellent. Take it from me also. I am not only married to someone who truly blesses my life with Broken English.( You could teach him a thing or two!) But, I also help people communicate for my profession. You do a great job.
Whole Foods “loves Adam” (the tweet says) but they don’t sell his CD
I have been following the numbers too, and Trespassing is still in the top 200 overall in iTunes Music (#188), moving very slightly up and down. Added to what eywflyer said, the reg Trespassing for $5 (really ends up as $4) is #31 on Amazon MP3 best seller albums list, with a green arrow up, and 5 days in the top 100. I bought one for my daughter and then got her the bonus tracks separately. Hope this indicates a moderate but steady stream of sales.
I also think it’s good that he has done the radio concerts, and will do more after Europe. And then move on to his Asia/Australia/NZ promo probably. Live performances are his forte, the more the better.
On another front, the VEVO video of NCOE is chugging along nicely, gaining an average of 152,000 new views daily, now at 2,730,734. Seems to have a lot more presence WW than BTIKM, per the stats. And, seems to be very well liked by the younger crowd. Plus, the fact that it was #4 on MTV this morning is good.
I think we can help Adam on this front, by adding views to the video on MTV (who seem to be on his side) and VEVO, and also any streaming we can do. I don’t get Sirius, but did sign up for MOG at $5/monthly. I gave up on Miami radio stations, you all know why……but, to be fair, I do see that PhillyQ102 and Chicago seem to be playing him some, per Twitter. And a few others. Fortunately, radio outside the US is much more Adam-friendly.
It’s not easy, but we have to keep moving forward. The tide is slowly turning and I don’t think they can hold out forever. (IMHO)
LOL, nkd, I’m in a desolate outpost too (the tip of America’s “appendage” so to speak) and no Fault here either.
nkd and riskylady I think you should both contact Fault. From the time they said they were all sent, Everyone should have them by now.
No Fault here
jlurksacto, it’s always your fault!
No Fault here either.
I’m not sure but it might have something to do with the fact that I didn’t order one. I’m going to look into it.
Yah, messed up an Amazon.jp order for Adam’s CD also. Because I don’t read Japanese too
well – or at all – selected payment to be made just prior to order being
shipped (instead of regular VISA) via in store/telephone/in PO/etc. Google
translate didn’t help so ignored and order was cancelled. Reordered last
Sat. and selected regular VISA debit/credit. Shipping was almost as much
as the CD. Delivered to doorstop yesterday. So maybe no Fault was an
order messup – but have email receipt and bank statement.
Ron, wrote a long response, residing now somewhere in “the cloud.”
I just checked Fault’s website. Needless to say the mailing is pretty much a fiasco. Looks like all pkg were sent to the US on May 24, and recorded as in the system on May 26th. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why some have received theirs and others have not. There are people all over the world still waiting, even in the UK. The people at Fault are really upset with the mailing company they used.
But it seems like they are sending names of people to the mailing company that have not received theirs yet, so you might want to put your name on the list.
I wonder if being in a larger city is a hindrance, maybe more custom level inspections? The mailing company has suggested this as part of the reason but that doesn’t really hold up as it is not only the US involved.
