Wait a minute. How do we know he has a cold? It’s not on his twitter that I can read on the internet.
Happy Birthday cgesq!
We’ll celebrate in person in London
mils: you go girl! I’m just too darn timid for my own good.
Just watched the vid posted above somewhere where the little kids are introduced with Adam while Mom records the awesomeness…then she goes in for her pic and KISSES HIM ON THE CHEEK and I writhed in discomfort. Adam was stoic but just for a moment his jaw tightened almost imperceptibly. How the hell does someone think that it is OK to do this? The whole video made me uncomfortable, actually, it wasn’t about Adam at all, it was about her and her daughters while she directed everything including him. Bah.
I think it is amazing that he still does hugs and even says that he enjoys them.
Happpy Birthday, cgesq! How wonderful that it fell on a Friday, so you can stay out as late as you’d like.
Fun and sweet interview from New Zealand:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=aYLED63sZyI
kradamour: I did not even have to look up that video, your description brought the uneasy memory right back.
Didn’t see that video, Krad – is it posted on this thread? Thanks.
turquoise, what should I do?
Are you talking about my hug and muttering in Hawaii? I’ve talked ad nauseum about how I was first in line and just asked for a hug. That was an incredible meet and greet. I’m so glad I had the chance. I just hope it isn’t my last.
Because, I want to hug him, sniff him, and mutter inane nonsense in his ear again,
MUAHAHAHA!!! {{ she says with an evil smirk }}
ETA Photoshopped GUCCI ad but I am leaving it because it is stunning.

mils here is the tweet, not from Adam from a woman that met him today.
and their pic. https://twitter.com/jeanjenie/status/213731068992438273/photo/1/large
hmmm Khaki’s?
GUCCI could well be one of those little apps that let you paste a pic onto just about anything. Not really buying it. But it sure looks good!!
turquoisewaters You could be right, but it sure had me fooled. #gullible
What is he advertising? Gucci….WOW WOW WOW
aw…you mean it’s not real?
Not sure now, people on twitter are questioning it.
I went back and looked…I think it must have been in the sidebar of another youtube and I clicked on it. Cringeworthy, indeed.
Well, he was voted music’s sexiest man on Billboard…so someone put him on billboard!
In some pretty good company! This is from an article about “Rock of Ages”
http://entertainment.inquirer.net/45255/tom-cruise-hits-all-the-right-notes
It’s from a website where you can upload your own images on all sorts of different posters and displays.
http://www.photofacefun.com/?section_id=new&sort=&p=11 – the Gucci one is at the bottom.

Shankman in another article said only Lambert can sing that legit rock today.
Now I’m inspired to go look at all his rock stuff I’ve so carefully preserved.
Probably go see Rock of Ages tomorrow.
So I downloaded zappar for the iPad…so fun! So now I have a photo of Adam standing in my dining room (not a photo of Adam that is hanging in my DR…but a picture of Adam that looks as though he is standing in my DR)…if I didn’t love my fleur de lys avi so much, Adam in my dining room would be a great one! My only regret is that his hair was not having a good day when the app was made.
It’s available for android and iOS (iPad and iPhone). (Free!)
I love that Adam has some geek in him.
(catching up)
Ron, I loved your proposed question to Adam about his song in 2012. I still watch that video from time to time, I have it on my phone.
Mils I missed your chicken soup recipe last time so would you please send it to me at your convenience. Talked to Goatie the other night and we are excited to see Adam and the ALL fans attending in Des Moines.
Hi AL!
Very nice of you to put together that photo for me! PhotoFaceFun is, as advertised, a fun website. I just did a couple myself.
Thanks very much!
Haha Kradamour, I have a picture of Adam in my living room! It’s kind of like flat Stanley where the little kids have to take him around and take pictures in different places, or whatever they do with him.
Okay, this is too funny:
OMG, nkd! We did Flat Stanley too!
Hahahaaaaaahahahahhaaha and LOL.
Try as you might, we could never have:
FLAT Adam!!!!!!!
Jojosie, your wish is my command. I’m heading over to fansite for your recipe.
Left a comment, jlurksacto on that UK site. Weren’t any there. Nice.
The PopMatters guy removed the info that said he was straight and married. Such a moronic review – Adam’s music isn’t queer enough. Every time I think of it my BP goes up.
We had Flat Stanley too. One family that we sent him to took him on a roller coaster, and took him in the bubble bath, and to State Fair, where he rode the big slide on carpets. They took pictures of all their escapades. Including a pic of Flat Stanley putting the moves on a teddy bear. Kinda naughty that Flat Stanley!! What a hoot. He also went to Israel, Minnesota and New York.
Oh the rooms and places Flat Adam can visit!
I know mils, but he is flat on my phone screen!
Colour me shocked reading some people analysis of Adam and radio here. I am sorry, I might not communicate my thoughts in the perfect way, so please bare with me as I intend no rudeness at all. I would start my highlighting some of the points I took away reading the radio analysis some of you have made here.
1. Radio pds watch out for track sales before playing a song: Can anyone who states this as fact point out how many of the songs on iTunes started sales at no.1 or even top 50 before being added to radio playlists? It is very few and far between and rarely happens. I have forever understood that sales follow radio spins i.e. if your song doesn’t get out there, no one knows about it to buy it and usually all songs need close to about 10m listeners to start having a showing in sales on iTunes, so how did this other theory come about?. Does anyone have any prove of a song that started selling without radio play first?
Even if you don’t follow radio charts, a little googling to follow each hit song trajectory would give you the necessary information. There is always wiki which despite its inaccuracies still gives some information too.
Stefano, the guy that was on AI10 is currently sitting at POP top 50 and charting higher than Adam now on the radio. I don’t see his song on iTunes 200 nor did it chart on billboard during its debut even with an A.Idol performance I am sure. All Adam’s singles on the strength of its fanbase alone had all charted on billboard without any airplay when they went for sale, yet the guy is charting and getting added more than Adam currently. So if I am to believe the theory that radio pds watch out for sales first, how then is Stefano charting and getting more radio spins + getting adds every adds day?
2. I read someone say the single choices have been horrid: Let us get something straight here, radio makes hits. Any song they are willing to spin ends up being a hit. There are a lot of terrible songs on the radio that are hits because radio spins them. Haven’t you heard people that originally despised a song, but ended up liking it because they got used to hearing it non-stop 100 times a day on the radio? That is what radio does. Every Bruno’s song released to radio were hits. How this is suddenly a bad song now because it is not sung by Bruno confuses me. Most of Bruno’s hit songs were boring, yet radio made them hits, just like they play any boring Kelly’s songs to become a hit. Google her track sales, some of them are very underwhelming for the kind of spins they got on the radio.
3. NCOE and BTIKM are bad songs and he should have released the best song of your choice on the album: Adam can release the best song ever written on earth, if radio does not want to spin it, it would never become a hit. And to some fans that know better than Adam, didn’t Adam himself say radio said they would not play ‘fever’ because of the ‘he’ pronoun?, and now some fans said if only he had released that, he would have smashed! Do the people with this opinion know better than Adam or could they mean Adam has been lying about what he says sometimes or what? Did he not also say in one of the radio interviews that there was a limit to what he could do in his music videos because of his sexuality? Does that not make it clear already that there is a double standard in the radio world there? What more proof do you need then? All the straight girls like Gaga, Katy, kesha, pink etc can depict gay in their songs and music videos and radio does not have any problem playing it and making them no.1 hits, yet a real gay dares not do so nor has that priviledge, yet some say really GAY does not matter in all these? Did he not also talk about radio having its own politics and getting a hit song is not about the quality of the song? Did he not release an in your face dance song ‘fye’ that radio refused to play? So what tells you radio would then play those singles choices of yours? see the absolute power starts and ends with radio. They break or make all artists as all artists are made via the casual fans radio play gets them.
4. About Adam showing desperation at G.A.Y: The guy was there to promote his single and album for God sake!. I am shocked someone plucking his album is seen to be desperate. Every artist does that either via their social media accounts or using adverts. Unlike most artists though, he does not have radio support that advertises their songs/album to the music audience every hour of the day. Rihanna who is one of the artists that get ultimate radio love is on virtually every tv show promoting her album and plucking (?) it by displaying it after every performance/the host doing it for her and on her twitter account. Even if he did not do that during his first era, this is his 2nd and he is supposed to grow and not stay stagnant! That is his career. He made a product that he needs to sell!!!
5. I read also that his music is not for teenagers and too good for them: Well Adam would disagree with you here since he said he made a POP album and wants to expand his fan base. Radio gets artists fans. Nobody knows about you if you are not heard on the radio every hour of the day. It is that exposure that builds up the fanbase. The Bieber and co you keep talking about got theirs too via radio. He gets played on Disney radio in case you did not know, including all the other known formats.
The boybands in vogue now are either British or Irish. Nobody knew them in America until radio gave them an audience. Follow the track of other artists charting, it is the same story. If radio plays Adam, he would get more fans too as that is fucking what radio does. And it is the same theory that works with sales. Notice how sales of artists on the radio increases with spins? Check the artists selling the most albums and singles and they are the ones getting the radio love. If radio play did not lead to exposure, more fans and sales, then all their hidden album tracks no one hears or knows about would also be burning up the sales charts and selling as much as their released singles, but we all know only the songs on the radio sells, so making whoever is propageting (sp) that theory not to be saying the truth. Unfortunately radio only gives that chance to a select few.
I would give an example; all Rita Ora did to get on the radio was her record label owner (Jay Z) following her to Z100 Ny to debut her song and bam! Z100 NY started spinning her almost every hour and all the clear channel stations added her in droves and even at that, she did not break iTunes 100 until last week or so. That was after almost two months of having her song on high rotation on the radio. Notice she did not come in with any established fan base as she is from the UK, nor was she anywhere with sales on itunes before radio started adding and spinning her single, but would soon have one now due to radio ie fanbase.
Same goes for Olly Mur, Cher Lloyd all from the UK Xfactor, Z100 and other clear channels are adding, claiming they are hot and in demand.
7. Adam got:
* a no.1 album with 77,000 sales with no airplay. Usher that would be debuting next week gets played on multiple radio formats from Urban, Urban AC, Rythmic, POP etc, and he is currently top 10 on POP airplay with close to 80 million daily listeners on the POP format alone, yet he would be debuting with about 120,000 come next week. That is some perspective there.
*He has more name recognition and buzz than a lot of artists radio is lagging on to and spinning.
*I do not believe age is the issue as most of the current artists on radio are older or in the same age range as Adam. The teen acts are the minority and not the majority. You can also verify their ages by googling it. It is in the open to see.
*His album got mostly rave reviews and reviewers said his songs are outrageouly good.
*He has gone around doing radio promo and concerts since February.
*Tell me what it is he has not done not to woo radio and yet they are still ignoring him. I am one of the ones that believe his sexuality is the barrier here and I agree with Adam in this area also. He himself already sends the undertone in the message of his recent music video and the explanation he gave for naming his album ‘trespassing’. If there were other gay artists on the radio, I wouldn’t buy the ‘gay’ excuse too, but there happens not to be a single one except Sia that got a feature on a David Gueta single. She does not have her own personal song on the radio. Don’t tell me only the straight artists know how to make good music. Also explain why the Scissor Sisters and other gay artists tend to chart elsewhere with their singles, but never in the USA. I woudn’t buy the excuse also that their songs are probably more European friendly since it the same European artists Z100 and other radio stations seem to be importing for radio play every month!
Lastly, he is not a one hit wonder. IIHY was a hit the last time I checked as it cracked top 16 POP.
There is Pulse Music Board (CHR) for anyone that is interested. You can pick up any current single to follow its chart and radio trajectory. Maybe that could give an insight into how those songs end being a hit.
You can check how many stations are spinning a song by using the below link either by typing the name of the artist in the search column or the name of the song. This should give a better perspective as to how those sales are being generated. The higher your spins on the radio, the higher your sales. And a lot of them like I said are on multiple formats, so their total audience impression is not the 50 or 70million listeners per day they are getting from POP radio alone. Note it is the same link that is used for the addboard mediabase. You only need to select the appropriate title link.
http://addboard.mediabase.com/SongsMenu.asp
I do agree with your radio analysis, sisi. In my opinion, this is the very weak link in Adam’s career path. If his sexuality is the issue here, then I question how WWFM eventually received adequate airplay in many areas. I still hear it on the radio on multiple stations. I would have thought that this time around would actually be easier for Adam, not more difficult. Both BTIKM and NCOE are good radio friendly songs. Wouldn’t having a hit already under your belt open up the eyes of these radio pds the next time around? This is the part that is puzzling to me. I’m thinking that if things don’t begin to “open up” for him, he and his label may not want to spend the time and money on these radio station visits. There seems to be a lot of time and work involved for very little return.
dcglam, I honestly think radio was trying to give the impression they have no problem with having a gay person on the radio by playing him the first era. Just like you are doubting if it could be the ‘gay’ factor at play, would some others also be wondering the same, since he got airplay his first era. It is all a game if you get what I mean?.
Playing him this era means he would finally get established as a radio star and I think radio is uncomfortable with that. They are fghting against establishing him on radio as doing that would mean, he is a radio staple that his subsequent singles have to be played just like they play anything released by Kelly C. and co to death irregardless of the quality.
The Justin Bieber example I read somewhere here could also give a little insight to some of the radio game. Note he has consistently been selling better than the boyband radio is pushing – 1Direction, but yet radio doesn’t spin his song as much as theirs. The Billboard article noted the pds saying, it is because it is not connecting with their listeners and getting negative feedbacks. Tell me, how else can a song show it connects, if it is not through sales? That is radio for you and yet they would spin and spin another song by another artist that is not necessarily connecting until it connects because they are bent on giving the artist involved a hit.
Omg…my mind is spinning from reading your posts, sisi. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion whether you agree or not. Obviously you don’t agree with many of them. That is fine but I’ve never felt such anger since the day this blog started one year ago. That’s all I have to say right now as I am at work. Btw number 4 on your 6:24am post. The word YOU is incorrect. I believe one person mentioned the desperate thing. Some agreed…some disagreed. Also as Adam would say “it ain’t that deep”.
Luval, sorry it came off as being angry as I did not intend it that way and started off apologizing should some see it like that too.
Yes, you are right ‘it ain’t that deep’ hence why nobody should take my post as being forced down on them. I was only trying to explain some misinformation on the radio thing from my own perperspective and by so doing, trying to help in my own little way.
Sisi, I’m not totally doubting it could be the ‘gay’ factor. I just question it because of the radio support for WWFM. Hmmm, interesting “game” theory you present…
WWFM was a Pink song, thus they played it, still do, and Grammy nom helps. IIHY came along right after, good jumpy summer song. No Adam for 2 years, BTIKM, great song in my opinion, gay Adam stil out there, to much of a vocal singing song, people didnt relate. They tried to put The Bruno song, which I never understood, riding on Brunos coattails, to me was the wrong idea, I think Adam thought so to. If Bruno had released NCOE it would have been a number 1 hit, tho not sung as good.
They should have went with Coukoo, Shady, or even Trespassing, and said screw it, he wouldnt be any worse off.
But Adam said he will be releasing more singles if he has anything to say about it, it seems he does have some say, and is standing behind the album, he put a lot of hard work into it, and hes smart. And as Ron says we dont everything that is going on behind the scenes.
If he didnt have the Queen gigs, I would worry, hey but wait a minute, dont they play Queen all the time, Freddie was Hummm–they play Elton John all the time he was–humm—.
Adam will close doors, they will open for him again, we all wanted him to blast up the charts and be another Adele, but there will be a lot of great things ahead for Adam, wait and see.
Was gonna say that NAL is in free concert (radio thingme) in Sacto today, but maybe I shouldn’t.
Miss Chaos, aren’t you saying the same thing? You think WWFM got played because it was a Pink song, so is NCOE not an Adam’s song. Adam did not write the song. It was written by Bruno with a similar track record on the radio as Pink.
It became a hit and got the grammies nomination because it was played on the radio and sold well. I am sure his label submitted that song because that was the most popular of his singles and the highest charting one.
Do you really think Adam is responsible for picking singles? I was told labels do that. He said in one of his canadian interviews that his label recommended he worked with Bruno and Pharrel Williams to him. He is not that established yet to have all his way with his label. If the label picks the singles and have a say in who works on the album, how then is Adam riding on anyone’s tails.
If Bruno was to release that song today, radio stations would be having a competition with who could spin it the most, same with BTIKM. I remember Kelly’s boring singles that have all flyed on radio because of who was singing it. Even Daughtry’s got played to death without selling on iTunes with his first single this era and also many before then.
Another thing I would like to point out is, if indeed certain radio stations picked NCOE as the single they would be willing to play and yet are not playing it that much, what makes you think they would have played the one that was forced on them like ‘trespassing’ and the other ones fans are suggesting better? I would really like to know how you are so sure radio would have played any of his other songs much better.
Sisi, I am always glad to see a long, thoughtful post supported with examples, whether or not I agree with any or all of it.
Thank you for the obvious time and effort you put into your post, and welcome to the blog if you are a newcomer (I don’t recognize your name but perhaps it has simply been a while since you posted.)
I am thinking that English is perhaps not your first language, and it is brave to post one’s perhaps controversial thoughts in a language that is not one’s own, with the risk of misunderstanding.
Bottom line, nothing Adam makes sense. I am still struck by my son’s immediate and matter-of-fact response to my expressed frustration about Adam’s radio play: a shoulder shrug and “Mom, the dude’s gay.”
A few data points:
1. I live in a large but very conservative market. Black/urban radio plays extremely racy stuff, but few white artists, and the “racy” is always heterosexual. Aggressively heterosexual. White radio plays it very safe, and I have only heard Adam on the radio a handful of times. BTIKM once, and WWFM perhaps three times. NCOE once. All but two spins of WWFM were on the Ryan Secrist show.
I still scratch my head when I hear about what a hit WWFM was. Not here. It was apparently a hit in large more progressive markets that could drive sales/spins.
2. My understanding of radio from the radio politics here (where stations are constantly being bought/sold/format changed) is that a relatively small number of people control the majority of airplay in a given market, and that this pattern is duplicated on the national level. In my market, I would bet that the few movers/shakers that control the white stations are very conservative. This is still Pat Robertson country and I don’t see Adam ever being welcomed to the 700 Club.
3. Adam is invisible if he isn’t played on the radio, except to very invested fans. My friends watch little TV, and no daytime TV. The fandom sees tons of youtubes of TV shows, cable and noncable, US and non-US, because we go looking for them. I have two friends who loved Adam on Idol but had no idea that he had put out a first album, much less a second, when I offered them each a CD. They both liked the CD but weren’t blown away by it as we are. I wonder how much of our passion for the music is enhanced by our sharing of Adam’s journey?
4. I’m just as clueless as anyone. We speculate, we agonize, we analyze, we keep the faith. Why isn’t Adam a huge star? Why don’t peeps select a lovely French Sancerre instead of a mediocre California Chardonnay?
We just don’t know, and maybe we never will. But I am glad to see as many opinions and perspectives as possible. Even in the case of disagreement, it is better to have something to think about than to just endure empty bewilderment.
Having said all that (another long post this morning!), I definitely agree with some of your post, Sisi, and I am willing to think about the rest.
We dont know if they would have played any of his other songs. They did play someone elses song, ie Pink WWFM, really I am a little surprised that they didnt play NCOE, being that is was a Bruno song, I said I felt they surely would have played it if Bruno was singing it. Are they doing a secret little banning of Adam because he is gay, who the hell knows,
He needs radio play to have a hit number one single, I dont think those 2 were number 1 singles that Adam or as you said the labels picked. But maybe Adam had no choice, and said you are the bosses, ok, I want my own singles released later, who the hell knows.
What do we want as Adam fans? Is Adam crying because his first 2 singles arent number 1? Dont know, but having the Album be number one first week on release, as first gay man is a great step, and possibly the radio stations got scared, and knowing playing his songs that I believe are really popular, worried them for their other artists that they push. Hey I know nothing about how all this works, just my honest stupid opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!
There was clearly something going on there. Remember all of our angst over that and some things that Adam said at various events?
Thank you for this, Miss Chaos. The one thing that we can bank on is that Adam will not give up his dream and his passion. As long as his “big sisters” have his back, he will feel safe and will continue to work toward his goals.
And so far, he has done a heck of a lot better than most of the wannabees who stall out early.
I’m not losing any sleep over Adam’s career – he will always make a good living with his art – but gotta say that I have worn a bald spot from the head-scratching!
Have a great day, peeps!
Adam on MTV 10 on top right now #4
Miss Chaos, if we believe what Adam said himself and don’t assume he was lying, then radio stations picked that single. He sampled 4 songs that fans were asked to vote on that included ‘trespassing’, remember? I would like to believe a similar thing was also done for the stations. There definitely would have been options given to them, for Adam to have said NCOE received the greatest response from radio. That was the reason I said if they indeed picked a song out of the lots given to them as the one they would play and are still not playing it, what makes you then think they would have played another chosen entirely by the fans or the label ie. ignoring radio own choice?F
I agree a bit with the 2nd part of your post because I also think Adam’s current radio struggle is because the radio lords are probably thinking he might end up being huge if they establish him.
It is definitely not because of his songs or his talent. This is someone some of the best in the music world like Queen, Slash and others that don’t easily come to mind have raved about and it also not about sales, as he’s selling much better than some of the artists constantly on the radio. Something therefore is definetly wrong.
“selling much better than some of the artists constantly on the radio” – interesting point, sisi – never made that connection. (Proceed to head scratching like Krad.)
