After a very busy couple of weeks of promo and radio concerts following the release of “Trespassing” on May 15, Adam will head to London early this month to begin preparations for his upcoming concerts with Queen. He will do some album promo and a couple of live performances in the UK as well, where Trespassing is set for a July 2 release date. One of these shows is the “Rays of Sunshine” charity event at the very prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London. Adam will also return briefly to the US for a free radio concert in San Francisco on June 24.

Our featured photo (Brian Ach – Getty Images) for this month shows Adam in a very happy mood while performing at the KTUPhoria radio concert. Enjoy the chat!

Eywflyer…please keep posting the numbers. The truth will set you free as they say. I’d rather know what’s happening then hear nothing but then being hit by a brick with disappointment. And like Ron says, Adam knows things that we don’t. I trust that he and his management will make the correct decisions. If not, then he should get the hell out if he can.

  2. ultimathule says:

Never sure how this works. Is NCOE not climbing because of lack of radio play – or is it something else?

  3. eywflyer says:

ultimatethule, it’s a combination of factors. Just not enough adds (only 28 of the 92 stations in the monitored Hot AC panel have added it so far), many of those stations that have added it aren’t spinning it very much, and some of the stations that were spinning it more before have already decreased it. Radio station PDs also watch track sales, and the download numbers for NCOE (and BTIKM before it) have not been good at all.

BTIKM also stalled on the HAC airplay chart for about a week in mid February around 500 spins and at #32, then started climbing again, eventually peaking over 1200 spins and at #17 in early April. It’s possible that NCOE could do something similar, but at this point Adam really needs more than a marginally moderate HAC hit (which is what BTIKM was IMO).

As for Top 40 radio, I know that NCOE is not in the top 50 on Mediabase airplay yet, but don’t know exactly where it stands. The message board that had been posting the #51-200 chart for Top 40/CHR radio airplay has not done so since June 2 as there are some recently raised copyright concerns. The number of Top 40 adds to date compared to BTIKM data suggests that NCOE is probably not particularly close to getting into the top 50 airplay yet.

For today’s adds, with 29 of the 92 monitored HAC stations reporting, NCOE has one add (WBMX Boston).

ETA: a note on adaminradioland says that NCOE has about 186 Top 40 spins currently, with #50 on that chart at 313 spins. NCOE is probably in the high 50s in chart position now.

  4. jlurksacto says:

Is NCOE not climbing because of lack of radio play

Hey peeps, have you/are you calling/tweeting/emailing your local radio stations
requesting NCOE? Daily? Adam spent a lot of time visiting radio stations.
How about a little help. First page of daily adamtopia thread.

  5. luval says:

Who knows ultimathule. If radio doesn’t play it no one can hear it. And if people can’t hear it they won’t request it because they’ve never heard it! Except us, of course. My radio station won’t play it because they “have no room and they can’t even play music from artists that are doing better than Adam”. This is what I was told. Yet they play the same 5 songs over and over. It is nuts.

  6. ultimathule says:

Many thanks, everyone, for your replies. After reading that Billboard/Bieber/Boyfriend article, found the whole radio thing dispiriting.

I had posted this briefly yesterday then dotted it. Here it is again – Trespassing album sales trends which I posted on the Adamtopia numbers thread on Sunday. If you don’t wish to read unpleasant data, I suggest that you skip the rest of this post.

  8. milwlovesadam says:

Adam suffers from a serious case of “The Wrong Singles”.

    Over and over again.

He should have released Fever or Sleepwalker or both from FYE.

    Period.

    End of argument.

Those were the best “singles” from FYE.

WWFM may make him a one hit wonder when all is said and done.

Don’t throw tomatoes at me please.

My question is this: If TPTB love him so much, and he gets so much industry cred and respect,

Why do they keep throwing him under the bus?

Who exactly is picking these singles?

Does nobody work with fans or read blogs or ask real people?

And, the real question is this, for once and for all:

Did the AMA’s REALLY TRULY f*ck his career forever?

No egg throwing. I really mean this. I have avoided the gloom and doom approach hard all this time. But, honestly, I refuse to accept the gay issue as what’s doing this. It’s bigger than gay.

After this tea party re-election of my ultra-conservative “Governor” my mind is in a bad place.

I’m sorry, but, after watching his G-A-Y performances, I saw a desperate Adam. He was working so hard, I didn’t see joy in his performance there at all. I only watched each video once, I couldn’t watch them over again like I usually do. He was over-eager to please and trying too hard. He’s “selling” himself there in a way I have never seen before from him.

He has so much hard work ahead of him with Queen. It will be a make it or break it point in his career. AGAIN. If those English fans don’t get behind him with Queen, he will be done in Europe. And, since he’s not here in the states to promote his work, his sales are falling and falling.

Maybe I’m wrong, and I hope I am, but, like Ron said, it’s a waiting game. Maybe he’ll end up being a hit in Europe. I just don’t think it’s gonna happen for him here in the states. He has his loyal fanbase here. But, how many is it really? I mean really?

If the average fan bought 2-5 CD’s, doing the math, maybe 30,000 people bought CD’s that first week. 12,000 the second week ( or maybe 6,000 people with 2 each ), then less each week after that. I have a feeling many of us have had these thoughts. I’m just typing it out.

I want him to be successful. I want him to have a long and fabulous career. I want him to make more records. I will always cherish his voice and everything else about him. I just am truly concerned that he is getting advice that is misleading him. Or, maybe, he’s over-thinking it and is himself partially to blame.

Shady, Cuckoo or Runnin’ should have been his first single off Trespassing. Kids should be dancing their asses off to one of those in clubs this summer and right now while he’s in Europe. Then he could come back to the states a hit. And release another hit. That’s what he deserves.

Rant over. Now you can throw both eggs and tomatoes at me.

  9. Miss Chaos says:

mils, no eggs or tomatoes from me. I agree with everything, especially the 2 singles released. They were good singing singles, but not what the radio is playing, thus they arent going far with the average Joe. The dancing singles would have been a big hit, or maybe not. Adam is just too good of a singer, and the radio and public dont care, they rather here, Baby Baby over and over or Boom Bom Pow, that they can sing along with, to me it sucked that they tried to use Bruno Mars to get radio play. But dont egg or throw tomatoes at me, cause this is not my thought, but maybe just what it is, Adam is and always will be a contestant from American Idol. Look at how the others but a few of the girls are doing, look at Cook, Allen, DeWize, even Haley who is an awsome singer, even McCreey they are complaining that his second single went no where. All these people can sing, but after the AI thing is over, fans or public dont seem to care, Is AI a curse, only Kelly, Carrie seem to have made it, and Kelly had her problems.
I blame the radio, I think the DJs have no class, cant understand a good singer, because they never hear one.
Blah Blah I am done for now!

  10. firstimerob says:

Mil I pretty much agree with you regarding desperate Adam. When FYE came out I was not familiar with the internet although the interviews I watched I recall saying to myself why isn’t he plugging his album. I have heard more plugs from him this time around than the entire time of FYE. Again it could be because I wasn’t in the bubble then but there is desperation in my imo. That scares me.

  11. jlurksacto says:

Doom/Gloom Monday – hope Tuesday is better

  12. TexasWannaHoldEm says:

Ugh, I just hate confronting the “truth” sometimes. I don’t know what to think … I must be in the minority, but BTIKM and NCOE are among my favorite tracks from Trespassing. If I had been given the responsibility of choosing singles, I might’ve chosen BTIKM, but I know I would’ve definitely chosen NCOE – I like it, alot. I’m just starting to think that Adam doesn’t have what it takes to win the younger market. Don’t know why, really. One thing that I’m wondering lately is this: Has Adam toned down his look and performance style too much? I mean, his fashion and performances really, REALLY pushed the envelope back in the FYE cycle. Maybe he’s trying too hard – whether it’s his idea or “theirs” – to be like everyone else.

The Queen gig is looking more and more crucial for Adam. I really hope that it helps him get a foothold in Europe. Success is success, whether it be here or there. I won’t be picky at this point. Big Frown

  13. TexasWannaHoldEm says:

Forgot to add that I didn’t see desperation in Adam – I mean, it’s a fact that his audiences in England for the most part aren’t familiar with his new music, or HIM for that matter!

It kind of makes me mad at myself for getting so invested in this sweet, sexy, talented, adorkable guy that I can let this ruin my day! Wilt

Well, I’m gonna go cheer myself up with a pedicure, peeps. I still think Adam will be okay. We don’t know what the future holds for him – a few bumps in the road may ultimately lead to a much more comfortable business relationship for him in the future. I’m going to keep enjoying and celebrating him! In Love

  14. ultimathule says:

So funny, Texas – the “younger market” – the seven- and nine-year-old girls here love the album. They know the words better than I do. The nine-year-old takes my iPod and goes off and plays “Underneath” – it’s her favorite. She also likes NCOE. The seven-year-old loves “Trespassing.”

Don’t know what that all means – maybe they just have better taste than the average.

  15. Ron says:

If anyone is going to throw anything around here, it should be bouquets.

We’ll just continue on as we’ve been doing and eagerly anticipate his next performance, provide YouTube links and new photo links and flail and jump bounce up and down with each new success.

Nothing has really changed for those of us here. We can look at disappointing chart numbers and CD sales and scratch our heads in disbelief just as long as we remain optimistic. Having an upbeat and positive attitude is what’s carried us through this far and so it should and will continue.

    Yes

  16. Teri63 says:

Mils and Miss Chaos: I’m not going to throw tomatoes and eggs at either of you because it’s friggin hot here in Chicago, and I’ll be needing them for a cool, crisp salad for supper! I have a really delusional alternative take on the single thing, though; If it’s accurate that Adam is being seen/marketed as a “new artist,” I kind of like the fact that they haven’t yet hit the radio PDs with Adam’s best tracks off Trespassing. If NCOE slowly climbs even to the level BTIKM reached, I think they will have done their job to (re)acquaint Adam with radio so that when they release something awesome like Cuckoo or Naked Love, it won’t be coming out of nowhere, like I kind of think BTIKM did. I mean, when it was released, Adam had been out of the general public eye for well over a year, his album had no firm release date, and the holiday freeze was just about to occur. We’ve all gone over the various reasons for that bizarre release date, but whatever the thought process, I still think it was, by circumstances alone, kind of doomed from the get-go. Also, I still haven’t written NCOE off; WWFM took a long time to pick up speed, and that was much closer to Adam’s days in the Idol limelight. Even if it’s doing so lethargically, NCOE is still moving in the right direction.

  17. firstimerob says:

Thanks guys. I feel better, I am the one who is desperate for him and reflecting it on sweet Adam.

  18. turquoisewaters says:

mils said: I have a feeling many of us have had these thoughts. I’m just typing it out.

    Yep.

TexasWannaHoldEm says: I’m just starting to think that Adam doesn’t have what it takes to win the younger market. Don’t know why, really. One thing that I’m wondering lately is this: Has Adam toned down his look and performance style too much?

I don’t think so. He is just not a “teenage dream” like Bieber or those boy bands. The music industry is held hostage by preteen/teen tastes because adults apparently don’t care enough for music to pay for it. If Adam fit perfectly on radio, I would probably not care for him.

  19. Teri63 says:

Regarding the G.A.Y. performance and those of you thinking Adam seemed desperate: I didn’t really get that vibe at all. Yes, he’s plugging his album more this time around, but he also has different management who may want their artists to pitch their albums. I mean, the bottom line is that Adam has made a product, and now his role is that of “salesman,” whether it be through performing it, talking about it, or more blatantly pitching it. The only vibe I felt from Adam was major adrenaline, like a mix of excitement and, likely, exhaustion from his being on-the-go for literally months on end.

  20. turquoisewaters says:

Ron says: Having an upbeat and positive attitude is what’s carried us through this far and so it should and will continue.

    Amen to this.

  21. milwlovesadam says:

Thanks guys, I feel better about this.

Real life is always more important, of course, but, when this fandom thing gets “down” , I don’t know, I just enjoy the “up” so much more.

Oops. No naughty intent here for once!

Anyway, like I said, I’ll always be his fan.

I absolutely give up on radio. I have requested Adam every day for a month. No plays. When I look at the playlist, it’s on repeat repeat repeat. Same 5-10 songs over and over. All of them, virtually all of them are CRAP.

  22. turquoisewaters says:

    Nice add from Boston WBMX-FM.
    Like jlurksacto says, keep requesting.

  23. luval says:

Texas…you mentioned the toning down thing. Although it seems as though Adam likes and is comfortable with his new look I think it makes him look older. The shirt and tie just doesn’t fit in with the venues he’s been playing. He looks safe and mature. I have always said when he started changing his fashion that he will always be glitter and glam through and through. I would love to see him dressed like at the endnof BTIKM. The white shirt, black leather jacket. I bet someone else is telling him what to wear.

And I agree, mils. The AMA’s.

  24. Ellessay says:

I think we just need to be patient. Although we follow everything he does, there just isn’t a lot of info getting out to the mainstream. Even in my own family, fans of Adam don’t know what’s been going on. Many of the interviews, magazine articles, etc. are in niche markets that not everyone follows.

Not everyone watched the AMAs. I know I never did until Adam was on. But “that clip” was run over and over again, and was online news for a while too. And really, the bottom line with that was people got tired of hearing the big deal media made of it–they missed the fact that it was not one of his best vocal performances.

When the Beatles came out, they were on Ed Sullivan–a popular show at prime time. I was in 4th grade and fell in love immediately. I bought Beatles bubble gum cards, posters, and other merchandise. They made movies–I own A Hard Day’s Night for when I want to relive those days. There was even a Beatles cartoon series that played their music throughout.

Loved Bobby Sherman, David Cassidy, Davy Jones-I could see them on TV every week. Bought the fan magazines. Bought their records.

I think Adam needs to up his presence on the news and television. The Queen thing may help as long as it makes the news. We need to be able to turn on the tv and see him on talk shows, tv specials, guest appearances, and dare I say, a movie. Release the GlamNation tour disk so it can play on the music channels, etc. I hate it that those people I know who love his music, don’t think he’s done anything lately, when we know how hard he is working.

And also, this is where the GAY thing comes in. I think most adults don’t care about his sexuality, as long as the music is good. BUT do they want their pre-teen daughters with posters of Adam on their walls? Do they want their daughters crushing on a gay man? And for another thing, he’s too old–no teen idol like Bieber. Yet, I know I would have crushed on him just as much as my other teen idols (probably more!)

Adam is breaking down barriers and changing people just by being himself and being visible. I know we want him to be a superstar, and he may be eventually, but it will take a little time. We have to be patient. Paula was right–he will be iconic. There is no one like him. It will take a while until radio catches up to him.

  25. turquoisewaters says:

I agree shirt and tie is a bit stuffy for a concert, tee and jacket is just right. For me, the WB look was perfect.

  26. Ellessay says:

For the record, I LOVE BTIKM and NCOE even though radio doesn’t. I think whenever we finally get a radio hit, people will go back and rediscover those two songs and great videos.

I don’t listen to enough radio to know why these wouldn’t fit in. I’d rather see them used on television where more people would hear them.

  27. Ellessay says:

As far as I’m concerned, he could peel down even further than that. Take off those darn heavy boots and go barefoot again in this heat. Let’s see those arms and legs.

  30. apal123 says:

I was feeling very sad about radio play and doubting my own personal taste and ear for good music. So I just did some very quick research on two of the largest media conglomerates, Cumulus and Clear Channel. Both were publicly held companies taken private by Bain Capital. Both were at the forefront in Banning the Dixie Chicks from their air waves. Cumulus talk radio stations feature Rush Limbough, Glen Beck, and Sean Hannity. In other words, these are conservative entities. While I don’t subscribe to conspiracy theories, I also don’t think they are jumping up and down in anticipation of new Adam music. So I say keep requesting and eventually they may come around. To quote the Biebs— BELIEVE!!!

I agree with both of these comments. For the most part, I would say that Adam both dresses and gears his performance according to the venue. I’m sure he dressed up with “the” Royal Albert Hall in mind. Of course, he was dressed perfectly in shorts at the DC National Harbor!Sweat

  40. dcglam says:

The F Word interview is wonderful. Adam’s words are always so brutally honest and heartfelt. He did an excellent job of portraying both the ups and downs of fame.

So to decide between outdoors DesMoines and indoors WinStar Casino. I’m not making that decision because I’m working that weekend.

  48. milwlovesadam says:

Also, about his wardrobe at RAH, I thought is was perfect for the venue, and for the type of event. Leona Lewis wore a stunning evening gown. I also think his loose slacks were more formal and on purpose. We just are so used to tight pants.

TeeHee, although his leather pants were quite saggy in the butt at G-A-Y.

  49. eywflyer says:

Winstar World Casino – the site of notoriously overbearing security during the Glam Nation tour. I believe that was where Adam tweeted his “they are just excited, not hostile” comment regarding the fans to casino management.

I’m really surprised that he would agree to return there.

  50. milwlovesadam says:

Yeah, not happening for me. But, it will for others!

I wonder if he will keep adding more gigs.

Maybe closer to here- he has so many in Cali, and just did so many out east. One thing I will say, his team knows there is a middle of the country!!
