So you actually have goats in your garden? Funny, my daughter and her partner live out in a rural area and have chickens in a coop they just built. Now talking about getting a goat – sent them a book on raising them – whatta hoot.
asif— I am so glad you were able to come to the Chicago shoe and be with everyone at the Greek restaurant. It was such a great pleasure to meet you and also meet your family who were great sports surrounded by us Aller fans! “The show must go on” and there will be more opportunities for us to get together as Adam’s career moves forward.

Everything is fine now, and going to be even better at 6pm when we meet with TLKC and rs for dinner, but we got off to a very rocky start at 7:30am!
Gil left at that time to go downstairs to pick up his sports jacket at the dry cleaners that he’s going to wear tonight and then come back with it before heading off to work.
15 minutes pass. 20 minutes. 25 minutes. Where’s Gil?!?? It shouldn’t take THAT long – the dry cleaners is right downstairs.
After 40 minutes and still no Gil, building Security calls me. Hearing this, my heart is now in my mouth!
Turns out, Gil is trapped between floors in a stuck elevator!
There he stood, by himself, holding on to his jacket in that elevator for what amounted to an hour and 20 minutes before they were able to get him out.
I was a wreck. He was as calm as could be when he walked through the door. He said, “There was no point in getting worked up about it. I knew they were doing everything they could to help. Only thing to do was wait”. He hung up his jacket and went to work. (I’m the emotional one in the family. He’s the one with the level head).
Oh, geez! It’s 3pm. I only have 3 hours to get ready for dinner!

Had an absolutely lovely dinner last evening with TLKC, ron, & gil. It was a great opening to the QAL festivities. I just wish that I didn’t have one ear glued to the news from home. They are shooting rockets to Jerusalem!
Have a lovely afternoon with rs at the AGO and then a wonderful dinner with Ron and Mr. Ron. So the Glam weekend has already started.
Last night, we had a discussion about the whole Freddie/Adam “thing”. rs used the Beatles to explain her thoughts and since we are all…..29…. we understood. She suggested that Queen fans who are emotionally attached to Queen and their music have great difficulty separating Freddie from the important moments that Queen songs marked for them, just as the Beatles marked all of the phases of her life as she lived them.
This is so true. There is a big difference between a fan and a FAN. I loved Queen in the late 70’s/ early 80’s and, probably because I was into theatre and had a UK-saturated upbringing, thought Freddie was amazing, but I was never IN LOVE with him or the band. I could sing along to about 30 of their songs but, to save my life, I couldn’t have given you a bio of the band or any member outside of Freddie (and then only the bare bones.)
From a live-viewing POV, I didn’t care a whit about Queen + PR and am only into this reincarnation of the band because of Adam.
For some fans, though, Queen and Freddie were, and are, much, much more. Jian Gomeschi, for example, has written a whole book about his coming of age, the focus of which is Freddie. When Queen hit the big time, Jian was a 13-year-old, Persian/English wanna-be musician whose family had emigrated to a very suburban community in Canada. For him, Freddie personified his inner rebellion and growing sense of self (which included the exceptionalism of his ethnicity). For that reason, Q+A will never work for him.
Freddie is un-over-look-able and that pretty much has to be addressed by any self-respecting music critic at the beginning of his or her review. The divide between fan and FAN also has to be anticipated by the writer. So be it.

Got a call from Orbit last night saying my 0510 flight (to SF) had been
canceled. Panic. Drove to airport (only 5 miles) and found
flight changed to 0540 to Denver. Connecting to Toronto gets
in 15 minutes later than original. So no big deal. Tried to pre-check in
this morning on-line,
(up to 24 hours before flight) but couldn’t because airline
(united) agent had to see passport. So drove again to airport
this afternoon – getting to know that place – and got pre-
checked in. Now just have to get thru TSA at 0dark30 in the
morning and I’m on my way. Why I drive if at all possible.
Jlurks, I’m glad you drive a lot of the time as it made my daughter and my trip to Chicago a lot easier. My DH said as we were leaving that he felt sorry for him being in the car with the two of us for that long. He doesn’t know that besides being generous, Jim is warm, smart and interesting and can hold his own in a conversation. He actually had three gals talking as he had his GPS on some of the time. I was a little down last week, after so much fun in Chicago, the glow had worn off, when in my mailbox appeared one of the shows program books that I had missed buying in Chicago and later they were sold out. I really had not been happy about it and had mentioned that in e-mails. The day it arrived I was rejuvenated and made a call to say thanks to jlurks and a call to Mils to just talk and talk and talk. I wish I was going to Toronto but I am happy that I did see the Q+A show and it’s off my bucket list and I’m certainly old enough to have one but don’t feel like it. Adam keeps you feeling young.
