Somehow I had lost sight of this thread so just got around to reading it and saw the mentions of ‘Bicycle Race’ by Queen. This song actually caused a turn-around in my life. I never used to like songs that were in Dutch, because the lyrics were so corny (talking teenage years here). Of course songs in foreign languages were a different beast, because I had no clue what they were about. Until ‘Bicycle Race’. By the time this song was being played on the radio I was able to understand the lyrics. So, after singing along to this catchy tune for a while, I started to think about what it was telling me, and I was astonished. I realized I would probably laugh really hard and not give it a second listen if it was in Dutch!
This made me soften up towards the Dutch language songs.
Shortly after, there was an influx of bands that sang in Dutch (before that the cool bands all sang in English) and the lyrics improved greatly. Lucky me, because by now I’ve spent many, many hours listening to and enjoying great Dutch-language music.
And all thanks to ‘Bicycle Race’
And… today I will meet with riskylady right here in Vancouver!
I’ll make sure she and Mr riskylady will safely get on their way to Toronto for the big meet-up.

I enjoyed reading about the influence of the Queen song, ‘Bicycle Race’. An epiphany to actually listening to your own Dutch lyrics. Great story to share, because lyrics are many times elusive to interpretation.
So happy you were able to reanalyze, and appreciate Dutch songs & their lyrics.

Okay, so, I am “OUT” of the closet about Queen and Adam at work now, big time, and my fandom-ness is getting me some attention.
Whatever, now I am known as a “groupie.” Whatever, if that is my label, I wear it with pride.
So, today I saw an old friend/co-worker and we started talking, ……Queen/Adam. She is an artist and has a huge and bawdy sense of humor. In other words, we get along like peas and carrots!
So, right there at lunch, she starts looking up Queen?Adam concerts, and announces right there, in front of all my professional colleagues that she has to go to Detroit. I’m laughing pretty hard.
So, then she pulls up a “random” pic, OMG, it’s that pic from Chicago, which drove us all into a frenzy!! Her phone gets passed around like a hot potato, and some Loooooove it, some sneer in disgust, and we’re laughing!!
Long story short, she wants to go but probably won’t, but it sure was fun today. I told her to look up some gems, and do her homework, I expect a full report soon!
Gawd, I’m expecting to get hauled into HR for “inappropriate conversations in the workplace.” It’s Adam’s fault. He’s too damn hot sexy gorgeous fabulous and talented. I blame him completely. I hold no responsibility for my own behavior. I am not a mature adult professional when it comes to this. Nope no way no how.
Jojosie called me last night, we just hooped and laughed the whole time. She is so fantastic. She had stories to tell about her VIP tote bag. I’ll let her post them.
Her stories made me decide to use mine as my carry-on tote for Toronto.
It’s interesting how Adam is filling out the arms of that leopard shirt we know so well from last summer with Nile. He had those gold pants on with that , didn’t he nkd?

Oh, geez, Mils, I bow to your OUTness. Still don’t have the cajones to actually act like I’d want to at work. I’ve casually told a number of the young engineers where I went last Tuesday in San Jose, but (so fun) it was my manager – probably in his fifties, just back from England with his wife and teen age daughter, who was the most interested, and started a rousing chorus, wait for it, of Killer Queen!
Could have knocked me over right there, right then.

Like Mils has said I’ve had fun with my VIP bag. I just put my purse inside of it and anything else I want to that isn’t too heavy, put it over my shoulder and wait for comments. The first day after lunch, my sister and I went to the Dollar Tree for a little fun shopping. On the way out one of the managers approached me and said he’d noticed my bag and did I go to the Chicago show. He said he was sorry that John Deacon wasn’t with the guys. He heard he’d left in respect for Freddie. I said he did stay for awhile but leaving was his choice and I was so glad the others wanted to carry on with the music and the show. We talked a little about the set and of course Adam. He had heard that Adam was a good match up for Queen.I told him he really did miss the show of a lifetime. I work part-time in a large old hospital building which houses lots of none profit agencies. I got on the elevator with a group from a local Hospice unit. The two guys of the group saw my bag right away. Surprisingly the youngest was the most interested. He was also an Adam fan and mentioned that he should have won Idol. They were interested in how big the show was, how long, what songs etc. The young one said he wished he’d have gone since he knew it was in Chicago. I just had to tell him it was the best show ever. One of my younger guy co-workers and his wife are Adam fans so he has been interested in my trip. I’m taking my VIP stuff for him to see tomorrow. I gave him a few links to watch but tomorrow I’m telling about the one that’s been posted here that has the whole Chicago show. Carrying your VIP bag is a good way to get looks from guys, it’s too bad I’m old.

Hi Mieps, glad your still around the blog and got to see Q+A. Your always welcome in Iowa and our famous annual bike ride across our state starts in August.
I still can’t get over STL from the 5th. The long runs, and that flamingo pose at he end, not to mention the shoulder action. Love it.
Asif, since Chicago was our only show I think it was a great one as there were so many from ALL there and everyone was so excited and pumped up (even Adam & Queen). We had a great dinner and party after on Wednesday and another party after the concert. So glad Mils got us that suite. I love meeting all the Canadian group, the Duke and Duchess, Glambotgram,the joyous asif, and most of all nkd. I made a list early on when the blog was young of people I wanted to meet and she is one of the last ones from the list. I now need to start a new list as we’ve gained posters. I have one question for nkd. It’s hot and dry in Texas I hear so how do you keep such beautiful completion?

These are my random thoughts about seeing Adam in Las Vegas. I’ve been out of the fan loop for some time, but have lurked in the background, watching occasional videos and live streams, checking Twitter, and getting e-mail updates. I’m thankful that you all and other Adam fans remain dedicated, connected, and keep the information flow going. The threads that Adam started us weaving continue to grow deeper and broader!
His voice remains magnificent and has an even larger range than he’s previously sung, correct? I think there were several notes on Sunday that should have shattered glass. Words that come to mind are unbelievable tone and range, richness, power, emotion, clarity, delicate, rhythm, sexy, connection, and like Kara said some time ago…Who sings like that, that’s some crazy shit!
Unlike with GlamNation, I left both shows in awe but satisfied and satiated. I think that’s the magic in Adam performing with such experienced and talented musicians as Brian, Roger, and company. The complexity of Queen’s songs took a lot out of me but put so much back as well. I realize that Adam’s songs left me wanting more, in a good way, but almost like something was missing, very different than Queen’s songs. It could be all the pomp and circumstance of stage, lighting, sound, but also the breadth and depth of writing. I’m thrilled that Adam is “taking it all in” with these tours and time with Brian and Roger, which should lead to his growth as an artist. I’m also thrilled that Brian, Roger, & Co. are genuinely good people. I’m also doubly thrilled that they are getting back as much from Adam as he from them, such as GOLD GOLD AND MORE GOLD!!! Ha ha, I have saved gold glitter from both shows
Adam’s youthful energy, joie de vivre and camp are showing up in the rest of the band and their interactions, which is awesome.
I wish Adam could learn to deal with sound and earpiece issues without fiddling with the earpieces. He’s gotten much better with that, but it is still distracting and takes away from being in the moment and from the depth of his theatrical performances. I know he is a control freak and maybe needs to make adjustments to sing as flawlessly as he does, but I hope he figures out some better fixes.
I love that Adam can play up camp, especially in Killer Queen, and I love it even more that Brian is being drawn in like a moth to the flame
I wonder if Roger is slightly jealous being stuck behind the drums. At least he and Adam have fantastic interaction on Under Pressure. By the end of the tour, Roger and Brian both will be jumping Adam’s bones all over the stage!
I love that Adam is touring with amazing musicians and technicians, and is learning so much about the business, performance, and the things that have made Queen such a successful group. I’m sure that it will translate into a long-running successful solo career. I want Adam to continue touring with Brian and Roger on a permanent basis, create new music with them, and also balance putting out his next album and squeezing in some solo concerts until he’s ready to do his own big tours. It’s clear from all the comments we are hearing from Queen fans that Adam is doing a total bang up job filling Freddie’s shoes, but also making them his own sparkly glittery high heeled boots and creepers
I am so happy that Suz paved the way with concert videos. We have absolutely reached the tipping point for excellent videos and photos of Adam and company. I don’t follow any other musicians, but I don’t think there is anyone else who has such expert videographers and fans taking care of their performers in the way that we do, preserving events that can be lived along with in time and space. Ha ha, kind of like Brian’s story about the astronauts and time bending!
It was so good to meet up with those of you in Vegas! Best wishes to everyone going to upcoming shows! I think I found a good mix of being in the moment in the concerts, but also taking some video and photos to enjoy afterwards. Carpe Diem!
