I get where you are going but I think what they wrote is absolutely true. I can’t stand watching Sam Smith for just that reason, no stage presence.
ETA Except for what they wrote about his clothes and body type, which was uncalled for.
The mean spirited things they say about Adam are just mean, not true.

Appreciation is the word that comes to my mind.
I saw the first Finnish review of QAL today in an evening newspaper, from London concert. It seemed like the guy had interviewed Adam, only a part of article was about the concert. The heading was “As good as Freddie”, referred to a sentence in ingress “Brian May thinks A is at least as good as past singer icon”. Here’s some translated quotes
Adam also told about his own relationship to Freddie and Queen. He also said about making new music with Queen that there’s been some talk about that, but they are not planning recording now because of what happened to Cosmos rocks. Adam: “Freddie was the the most important song maker of Queen and without him the songs don’t sound like Queen whoever sings on records. I am satisfied with going on tour with Queen, but my own career is more important to me”.

Have to say I agree with Adam about recording with Queen. I much prefer Roger’s idea that perhaps they should be on Adam’s records, or do something completely new and separate.
And I agree with TLKC, he needs a great band for #3 live. I do think he will find a role for Tommy, as a loyal friend. Many bands (Cook, Kelly) have more than one guitarist. Tommy is eye-candy and a nice foil for dark Adam, plus he likes to tour with trustworthy people.
I love Ashley’s look, but don’t think she is a very creative bass player, just going by the snippets she used to play for her intro. Rick and Brian have probably moved on.
But I definitely do not want to ever see Monte again, his violent loud shredding and solos trying to hog the stage, and his back-stabbing wife getting involved, just NO.
Even though he has tweeted about Adam, and was at the Classic Rock awards, I don’t think Adam even acknowledged him. Someone would have noticed.
I will try to grab a few Italian Classic Rock mags while in Italy, love the pic on the cover with Adam and Freddie side by side.
Re Sam Smith, what a harsh review. Seemed like he gave the impression he wrote his songs alone, but he has one or two cowriters and we really don’t know how much or little he contributed as is the case with everyone. But they should’ve known better than to ape a melody to that extent.

While that review of Sam Smith appears mean….I can also imagine from watching interviews/music videos that it is actually true…I love his voice, but its time for something more upbeat now…too much angst could get boring.

When I watched “Village Troubles”, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake and a few other singers I wish Adam had his back-up band like those. Fun, Funky and groovy. They play and mesh together well.
Adam deserves the best and now he can afford it and has the label who supports him.

@luval, that link you posted about the Idol winner P2 doing a lawsuit to get out of the “oppressive” American Idol contract seems to be the hot topic now…
At MJs… somebody (Karrington) posted this about Adam regarding that lawsuit:
The difference being, Adam was already away from 19m and had DMG management working on his behalf. He later also left 19R, on good terms according to them and Adam, but was still signed to RCA. Of course, the RCA negotiations did not work out because of the cover thing, and maybe other stuff, before he got away from them also. DMG also got Katy Perry out of a bad situation so they probably have some clot and expertise in getting what they want without court. The problem for P2 is he does not have separate management to negotiate thus the lawsuit was his only way out, IMO.
asif, 73 was just the number of NA reviews. If you include the ones from the continuation of the summer tour and the UK it was closer to 100. But in the interest of full disclosure, lol, I didn’t “read” all the reviews. More often than not I scanned the beginning to see how Adam was presented, ie.”former AI contestant” or “acclaimed American singer”. Didn’t need to read the whole article, though I sometimes did. Still, it was a bit of work…
Hi tlkc and angelowal. Thanks for your sympathy. My spirits are up. I have good friends/relatives that have been helping me thank goodness. I have company here on the blog as well and especially late night/mornings to share my angst.
Went to the doctor yesterday evening. I asked him why it hurts so much for a couple days after his visits and he says he repositions my foot each time ( I didn’t even feel him doing it) and then resplints. Well this time I was ready. I took a painkiller before I went and an hour after I came home and lo and behold, not too long after that, the pain started to come and yay, it wasn’t too bad since I had been proactive. So I am making sure for the next two days I will be taking a tablet every 5 hours so I won’t get the full pain effect. Let’s see how that works later on today when the worst pain usually comes. I am now in a boot not a cast but only allowed to take it off for 1 hr each day to air out and rewrap with gauze and ankle strap. Don’t know who is gonna do it for me each day later on yet. Well my aunt will for the rest of the week til DH comes back but I already know he won’t do that. No walking or weight bearing on the boot though. OMG, I got a look at my leg for the first time in weeks before he booted it and you cannot believe that atrophy already set in. My vanity speaking. Ugh. He said it will be back to normal after physical therapy but that won’t start for 3 weeks!! Don’t know if I’ll ever be wearing shorts again.
Don’t be sorry for me not going to Milan. I am fine about that. There will be more Queenbert. Pretty sure. I am worrying about all my friends experiencing this terrible cold storm. luval, cgesq, my Canadians and all of you in those areas, please stay safe and warm. Hugs and prayers.

Thanks for the Save Me lyrics, asif. I had seen them before, but I just read them while watching Adam perform the song. So heart wrenching and beautiful. It is so crazy that some reviews are saying that Adam doesn’t bring the emotionality that Freddie had. In a lot of cases I think that he has more!
What amazes me even more is that Adam can remember the lyrics to these complex songs night after night. I mean they aren’t “baby, baby” on repeat type of lyrics, are they?
THIS. The worst reviewers are insufficiently knowledgeable to critique the music and the performance objectively so they fall back on their biases and they posture.
No danger of that in the UK. Music critics know their Queen inside out.
The Sam Smith situation is interesting. Tom Petty is an industry heavy. Unlike some of the people who have fought for recognition of their music in the courts, he cannot be ignored.
The P2 matter is interesting. He is at the end of “post Idol year three”. This is the point at which Adam announced new management. Why isn’t P2 doing the same thing? Is his contract more restrictive than Adam’s?
One of P2’s complaints is that the label identified an event as “merchandise”, which netted them better remuneration (40%!!!!)
According to fans on adamofficial, Adam’s contract allowed RCA to keep merchandise revenues for an extra 2 years.
Maybe this where P2’s complaint lies: he is phasing out of the performance part of the contract and they are re-classifying some projects to improve their bottom line. If so, then they may be violating the contract.
Philip is taking a risk – he could make himself an industry hot potato. I am grateful that Adam handled his exit from RCA so gracefully. Something we don’t have to worry about.

One commenter has posted the weirdest take on Adam’s loss that I have ever read. She says that the Idol contract allows TOP 5 to turn down the public vote so that they can “lose” the winner’s spot and the related onerous contract. And she says that Adam took advantage of this!!!!?????

TLKC, that is very interesting speculation. Indeed. I’m always pretty skeptical about things like that, and whichever way the cookie crumbles, Adam is a huge winner.
The whole P2 thing is going to blow up in his face. He’s young and doesn’t seem to be getting enough support. Sad. I don’t like his music, but, he has always seemed like a nice guy, and just not ready for all his fame.
Isn’t it interesting how a thread over there is about P2 and becomes hijacked by Adam speculation? Adam simply gets the most posts. No matter what.

. At least the ‘boot’ is an advantage over a solid cast – you can get it off to cleanse your leg and get some fresh air on it. My son had a big boot/aircast for his recent fractured ankle – they’re big suckers, aren’t they, but they’re quite lightweight. He used to remove the black foam liner and replace it with a towel making it more comfortable and less sweaty. His leg atrophied within 2 weeks but with physio, it is fully back to normal.
His surgeon always left him with more pain after a visit too, and during the last visit accidentally walked into my son’s elevated foot and sarcastically muttered ‘Sorreee’
; that was the end of that relationship! Now my son is taken care of by his sports med. specialist from way back in his gymnastics days where he’s dealt with competently and delicately

…..and thanks too for the lyrics of “Save Me”. Oh gosh, they are so poignantly sad and beautiful. Poor Brian, he must feel so deeply and profoundly; no wonder he tends to sink into depression. I had read that he was very depressed after Freddie’s death and it took him a couple of years to recover. That’s another reason why I despise the critical fans who claim he has no right to continue performing as Queen, since Freddie’s passing…..grrr!

I didn’t dare post that controversial take on Season 8 on MJ’s for fear of kick-starting another diversion from P2’s dilemma.
Phillip is quite young. Year Three is often difficult for Idol contractees. The second cd rarely does as well as the first and the label’s interest is waning. We can’t know what his contract involves or what advice he is getting but he’s taking a decision that may not play out well over the long haul.
