AL, thanks for the Sam Sparro video. I loved it. Just imagine, Adam, Nile Rodgers and Sam Sparro performing together. It’s going to be an amazing concert! I also read that the venue has excellent acoustics, which will make it sound even better. And Kradamour, adamized and I will be there!!! I’m getting more excited every day as more tidbits are being leaked about the show. I’m also glad TALC will be there recording it for us. Now I just have to get through the next week of work…

Like the radio person that told mils in Des Moines that Adam only had one hit, when his time was taken up by Neon Trees who only had one hit in the US and was still pretty unknown. Geez. And I know people like Gotye and Adele, I did too until I heard them way too much – even hubby noticed during our 45 minute trip to and from grandkids and that’s the only radio time we have. LOL, he even said, Oh, I know we’re in the car because it’s Gotye and Adele…..

As far as Adam recording with Cindy, although a great honor, is she still relevant today? Would radio play it?
Something I still can’t figure out, when Adam was first peddling Tresspassing around to all the stations, all the Djs seemed to love the album. Lots of excitement. So why the dissconnect from when they had the listening sessions, to not playing any of the songs. My area was lucky, Adam came to Wilkesbarre, so our station played him for about a month.
It’s probably true about Cyndi Lauper not being relevant in today’s music. But who is anymore yet they have successful, long careers. Cyndi is touring constantly. If Adam does record Mad World with her they would have to be on shows like Ellen, Leno, Letterman to get it heard. Radio would never play it. IMO. Mad World has always been in the top 5 favorite Idol moments and I think people would love to hear it again
Doubt if we’ll see any press on the We Are Family gig. It’s just one of many that entertainers get involved in all the time that we never hear about

eta: Ladyh, yeah the DJ’s seemed to love the songs but in the end it’s the program director who decides what to play. And that’s the question of the decade…why did they not decide to play Adam.
I just can’t figure out any more why there is no radio play for Adam in US… There must be something behind the scenes. I don’t believe it’s only wrong song choices. The whole system seems so complicated, with all those payed promoters etc. I hope Adam and his team are a bit wiser about this than us.

LadyNorth, Sauli has such gorgeous angles and planes in his face. I would love to sculpt a portrait. I don’t think that I would survive an attempt to do a life sculpture of his body. There is no way in the world that I could stay objective and examine that body closely, the way one has to do when sculpting.
My brain, heart, and other parts would probably explode…. I would get too distractedLove the photo’s of Sauli. Do you think they are out-takes from the Finnish Elle shoot?
I know this is an unpopular opinion but I agree with aely. Not saying that there are no over-rides to the playlist data. Sure, there is quid pro quo between labels and media. Sure a major artist will get the benefit of a doubt if they test low on the initial surveys BUT, that is layered on to the data and probably accounts for less than 20% of the play list. And it’s done at least in part because it either generates revenue or it’s a safe bet.
No business that is dependent on ratings flies on gut feels. The big radio stations do serious listener surveying to determine their play lists and the smaller radio stations piggy-back onto their research by monitoring the larger ones and Billboard.
There is a possibility that fan behaviour is a factor in Adam’s radio penetration. I know that no one here is an OTT voter but there are a lot out there and they can negatively affect a song/singer’s chances. (Remember the radio station that told fans they would play Adam and P2 only once a day? They took both of them out of the running for decent rotation because of fans.)
At the very least, fan requesting/voting it can be ineffective.
I actually had a brief talk with the Marketing VP’s of Sony and Universal Canada at a politically-oriented cultural forum back in Spring 2010. When I told them that we were planning on calling the radio stations to request for Adam they both jumped and said “NO!” (even the Universal guy did and Adam’s not on his roster.) They told me that fans contacting radio stations is a bad idea. Their opinion: we are not necessarily the best advocates or spokespeople.
One of our fan group, who used to work in radio, confirmed this, so a substantial group of fan/friends in our city decided that the best policy was to actually listen to and focus on our biggest radio station. We followed the DJ’s on twitter, re-tweeted them regularly, started doing the “Rate the Hits” survey every week and entered some of the contests. Some (enough) of us kept it up even after FYE was played out.
When BTIKM came out, we got it to Top 10!!!! Then, something interesting happened. Fans started gaming the system by ranking the songs immediately above BTIKM as “Hate it” to help it out. Lo and behold, a special survey was issued to the raters. They don’t know why (I wasn’t one of the gamers) but my theory is:
a) Hate it is used sparingly by regular raters
b) “Rate the Hits” results didn’t correlate with the other surveys coming in.
At any rate, they started to give the votes on that survey a closer look. I can’t definitely tell you that that is why BTIKM subsequently dropped but my guess: it was a factor.
I have a whole theory about Mediabase voting but I won’t go into it here. Suffice it to say that it is probably pointless because fans of all singers stand out like sore thumbs against regular listeners.
IMHO, radio stations deserve a bit more respect than we give them and it’s just possible that our attitude filters through in the way we approach them, treat them, use them. They are running scared in a business that is in decline and they are looking for the least offensive offering so that people won’t do the one thing they fear the most: switch to another station.
They are looking for “wallpaper” music. Adam’s problem is that he isn’t “wallpaper”; he’s the biggest f*cking piece of furniture in the room.
Nobody can put BB in the corner…or make wallpaper out of him. Better that he should find a more appropriate room where he will fit in with all the other fabulous furniture

There wasn’t much interest on the blog for going and I wasn’t really feeling it either, but I was missing adamized and asked her if she would like to go. From Baltimore the bus is only a few dollars and we got a cheap room in what my son would call a craptastic hotel. (We ended up with pretty cheap train tkts tho, I think I am getting too old for the bus).
We ran it by the other local peeps and still no excitement except for mmm222 so we didn’t post it. It kinda looks like a stealth trip but that wasn’t the intention – it just didn’t look like that hot an opp’y, especially since peeps just went to NYC to see Adam with Cyndi L a few weeks ago. Now, of course, it is looking much hotter, but who knew?

This event should make it on the NYC media radar. Cyndi’s event would have made a bigger dent if the Rolling Stones hadn’t been at Madison Square Gardens on the same night and the 12/12/12 concert hadn’t been in the same week.

I was away on 2 different trips and missed the Cyndi L concert in New York and the Kris Allen concert in Annapolis last week. When I returned on Sunday and found out about the Adam/Nile concert, I couldn’t pass it up. I think we’ll see another side of Adam’s incredible, versatile talent at this concert. Now that Sam Sparro is joining them, it will be even better. We won’t be returning home until Saturday, so the recaps may be delayed shortly, but I promise a good one. Since Adam is not going to have an official tour, I feel like I need to seize any reasonable opportunity to see him whenever I can. (A short trip to Asia for a concert is about as unreasonable as it gets.)
So excited for our ALL representatives at the gig in New York with Nile Rogers! It is one of those things that I would run to if I was on that side of the pond. And I do love New York so much. So we need VERY detailed recaps. Please

I have a theory that a radio spammer (ahem, requester) could be more effective and save a lot of boring time voting if she simply picked one of the larger regional stations in her area, signed up as a listener, followed the DJ’s, re-tweeted them occasionally, entered the odd contest and took the surveys regularly. That way, her voter profile would be weighted properly and count for much, much more when her favourite singer/songs show up.
Radio requesting is like life. There aren’t too many short cuts and no easy way out.

The comments on Popdust made me laugh. I have to admit I’m not much of a voter since I was disillusioned by the VH1 countdown. It’s nice that people are passionate but Fifth Harmony just doesn’t seem to have the talent level to inspire such
dedication. IMHO
Kradamore, My avi is the only noneyeroller who lives in my home. He enjoys sitting at my feet and listening to Adam talk and sing. And he has never once asked me about his sexual orientation, why he wears makeup, or why his songs aren’t played on radio. It’s very calming. His name is Rocky and he is a 140 lb. bernese mountain dog/great pyrenees mix who keeps me company now that the nest is emptying.
