Texas, that eyebrow raise and smirk killed me then, and still gives me a thrill!
At my first M&G, I got that eyebrow and a big one-sided smirky grin as he walked up to me at the M&G area. I was first in line, and he had to come out of the building to the M&G area. That look made me weak. Honestly. I’m amazed I held it even half way together.
In that Beth video, you can see Paula just fan-girling like nuts. LOL. She’s Glambert Prime. The first. She became one at his audition months before it aired.
I just can’t believe that management had Cuckoo being the featured song on PLL, a show that is shown worldwide and one of THE most popular shows, and didn’t have Cuckoo ready to release as a single, WITH video. Dumb, dumb, dumb!!! And the album has gotten bumps even from the rebroadcasts of the show for the regular season beginning.
Just have to believe that that stupid bastard album forced the premature release of BTIKM and from there it all went downhill…..
Bear with me here, I have another, more controversial and less likeable theory (even I don’t like it).
WWFM and IIHY got plenty of airplay, with WWFM charting at #10 I believe and IIHY at #15 or #16, somewhere in there.
Sooooo – maybe radio didn’t take nicely to the meme of Trespassing, the talking point that Adam felt like an outsider in the biz, etc. He did say that many many times during his (unnecessary to me) blitz of radio stations this year.
But, the biz did play those first two songs, he did get a Grammy nom for one of them, and WWFM still gets airplay and so does IIHY. I can’t believe it’s just because PD’s didn’t like the new songs – they’re perfectly good songs, just as good as any of the other stuff being played if not better, and good enough to get plenty of airplay in many many other countries, to the point that the editor of People South Africa was bent out of shape because BTIKM was not sung at their concert. Just sayin’…..

No, Oksana, because they had ALREADY given this gay singer lots of airplay with WWFM and IIHY. I’m theorizing maybe they didn’t like to be labeled as treating him like an “outsider” after the considerable airplay of WWFM and IIHY – enough airplay to generate a BB Top Ten for WWFM and Top Twenty for IIHY, plus pushing album sales, plus a Grammy nomination. Also, Adam was invited to perform at many summer radio concerts, did in-house concerts for iheartradio, etc.
You know the real reason I hate VFTW?? They were the ones who dug out Adam’s kissing boy pictures and brought them into the daylight. These pictures cost Adam his American Idol title cuz middle Merka would NEVER vote for gay singer.
Don’t try to convince me that it wasn’t the real reason that he lost to Kris.
Riskylady, the only time I recall adam saying that he felt like outsider was when he went to Grammy ceremonies and he felt that he didn’t belong there.

I do remember in some of those 100+(?) radio interviews Adam saying he still felt like an outsider. The question from the dj’s would be something like “how do you feel now that you’ve made it” or something like that.
Hate to say it…Niki Minaj isn’t that bad as a judge. Kinda funny actually and puts a little life in the show. Mariah puts me to sleep.

On Rove he said he didn’t think that celebs would include him. He does talk fairly frequently about feeling like an outsider.
But, I honestly hope that didn’t keep his music from being played. I think it had a lot more to do with single choices and timing of a lot of things.
I actually love all the judges and the combination of their personalities. Imagine if Nicki was not there – pretty dull. On the other hand, I think she was overdoing it in tonight’s episode – like too much caffiene or something. Mariah has her spirited moments in between emotion bouts. But overall, Mariah is to be respected for the great talent that she is and her ear for talent as well. I actually expected her to be more HBIC than she is being – instead she seems more approachable than I expected. Keith is adorable and Randy is not annoying so far. How do you think it would have went if Adam and auditioned before these 4? I think they all would have loved him. Mariah would have loved his voice, Nicki would see that he is a star, and Keith seems to have an inner rocker, so I think he would have loved a little Queen.

I suppose it’s possible that radio PDs took offense at that or thought it weird. But I attribute the radio shut out in this era more to Clear Channel buying up more and more stations and deciding at the corporate office who and what goes on their (limited) playlist. And for whatever reason, Adam didn’t make their list.

I watched Grey’s tonight too glambotgram. I also thought of Adam bedazzling things but I didn’t laugh uncontrollably until I read your post, now I’m jiggling!
There is nothing outsidery about BTIKM and NCOE, the singles that were released to radio. Trespassing is a bouyant song and it doesn’t feel outsidery, either. I doubt radio programmers sat down and listened to enough of the cd to get that outsidery vibe, which is more likely the real problem. Most programmers probably don’t listen to half of what they’re given.
In most interviews Adam was engaging, funny, polite and he sang beautifully. He doesn’t act like an outsider.
WWFM actually went to #2 on the HAC charts. I think it was #12 on Pop. It was huge. Perhaps he would have done better this time around if he had targeted HAC instead of POP. Chokehold might have made an interesting HAC single. His voice is beautiful and it stands out from the music (like WWFM). Not my favourite but it’s a good song. Runnin’, Nirvana and Take Back are great, too. If he decides to go that way next time around, he might succeed on HAC.
Cuckoo did get a bounce from PLL but it was a pretty small bounce. To be at 99 ranking for a couple of hours may seem amazing but what it actually means is that, at it’s best moment, there were still 98 songs selling better that it was.
PLL featured Cuckoo because it had a train in it. They featured Trespassing because Adam and the label wanted to promote it. Cuckoo got a bigger bounce than Trespassing but a) it was more prominently featured on the show and b) a whole lot of fans deliberately downloaded it the night of the show, me included. We couldn’t download Trespassing that night because we’d already done that a week earlier. (A lot of people downloaded the songs under the direction of Adam Storm.)
We can re-wind the “would-coulda-shoulda” forever but the Trespassing era is over on radio.
Adam is moving forward and we are right behind him.

TLKC, I think that Cuckoo was downloaded by kids who simply liked the song that they saw on PLL. I didn’t know that fans vere urged to download Cuckoo on that particular night, and even if I knew, I wouldn’t be able to do it cause I downloaded the whole album ages ago. Cuckoo happen to be real earwormy thing with fun lyrics.

You all know, that if Adam got Idol job, he would be blamed for absolutely everything. Ratings, contestants selection and WGWG#6 who will be crowned in May 2013.
You may be right, aely. Sure seemed like Randy came back into the mix at the very last minute.
I bet Adam was very close to getting the job, only to have it yanked away by last-minute power plays by Mariah and Randy, and then, since TPTB couldn’t tell him the truth about why they rejected him, they gave him some mealy-mouthed explanation about how they were seeking a panel that would be “credible, entertaining, and balanced.” Yep, totally coulda happened that way.

I dont think a WGWG will win this year, I just have a feeling. There were some pretty good girls, just not the screechy ones, that could pull it off, at least I hope so.

Just to clarify, I didn’t say the songs were outsidery. I said, in all those promo videos and many interviews just before and after album release, when discussing the mission of the album, and especially his interactions with Pharrell when writing Trespassing, they talked about life, being an outsider in the music biz, etc. It is a song about being shut out, after all.
And, Trespassing the album got a very nice bump that lasted about 6 days from first run of PLL, and Cuckoo the song got more than a couple of hours, more like 2 or 3 days. I have it written down, as I watch the iTunes charts daily. WWFM and its video also came back on for a couple of days.
Then there was a two-day Divas bump.
Another bump happened in the last couple of days for the album ONLY after the rebroadcast of the PLL Halloween episode. Probably PLL fans and people noticing the Idol blog/newspaper article recaps and Glaad nom.
