2013 will apparently begin with a rather quiet month for Adam, as he has only one performance currently scheduled. This will be a Hennessy Artistry event in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on January 4. After that, Adam’s next scheduled event is the kickoff of his international “non-tour” in Seoul, South Korea on February 17. There is no official word as yet on whether some North American dates will eventually be added to the non-tour in the spring, but recent comments from Adam have not been very optimistic.

Above we see Adam performing at his final concert of 2012, at the Mulia Resort in Bali, Indonesia. Happy New Year and enjoy the chat!

Oksana, actually Kris is playing some very nice venues – small but nice. He played the Hamilton in DC, and on Monday he is playing a well-known venue in Annapolis MD – I actually had tickets to join two peeps from here at that concert but gave them to my cousin, can’t make it up there this week and kinda bummed about it.

  2. glambotgram says:

Thanks everyone! I didn’t see that tweet, it wasn’t’ on my feed for some reason.

Oksana I haven’t looked at any of the venues, that is really small if he is playing in bars.

  3. Kradamour says:

Glambot, it is actually totally acceptable to drink champagne from a white wine tulip glass. Nothing to apologize for!
    Wink

There’s an argument going on in the comments to PH’s article, one says Adam’s label was 19R and he was dropped and that meant dropped by RCA too and that 19R/RCA own AO and it will soon disappear. The other says no, his contract expired with 19R but he stayed with RCA. Someone else posted that 19R was removed from AO.
So, I went and checked. On the bottom of the page where it USED to say 19R/RCA, now ONLY has the RCA logo and this:

Visit http://www.OnGuardOnline.gov for social networking safety tips for parents and youth
    (RCA logo appears here)
© 2013 Sony Music Entertainment. All Rights Reserved.

The fact that it says 2013 Sony (which owns RCA and is a worldwide organization that is present at most of Adam’s int’l gigs) indicates to me that he IS still with RCA. So, I’m gonna believe Shirley, the Billboard guy and Lindsay and I think Adam feels a little nostalgic (hence the Change Is Gonna Come tweet) but is celebrating as someone said “one less hand in his pocket”! Just think how much MORE money he would have for 2012 with all those great gigs he had.

  5. Oksana2000 says:

Krad, I’m not saying that these venues are not nice, but they are too small for Adam to have full blown concert. With singers. And dancers.
My impression of Kris’ venues comes from watching few You Tubes. I could be absolutely wrong.
And I don’t think that Adam would financially break even, so what’s the point of such a tour????

  6. Kradamour says:

Oksana, definitely Kris’ venues are smaller than Adam’s and definitely he is not nearly as successful.
I just wanted to add some data points to your post about playing in bars.
That may well be true for some of his performances, though – but the ones with which I am familiar are quite nice small places.
Actually, Adam also played the Hamilton for a radio show this spring. (Adamized and I were there, with ulti and dcglam).

  7. Oksana2000 says:

Krad, radio show is a some form of promo, right? And Adam was not stuck with the expenses. I’m trying to rationalize why Kris is on US tour and Adam isn’t.

  8. Oksana2000 says:

Krad, Adam is not renting $8,000 a month house anymore, but his condo ain’t cheap either. He has to make some money and playing small venues is not a solution.
BTW, not buying a home was a smart move on his part. He is not tied to a place and in the worst case scenario all he has to do is to find a storage for his jackets and boots.
We know by now, that he doesn’t throw Out ANYTHING.

  9. ultimathule says:

From INROCK Feb 2013 issue – Adam: “I miss my early 20’s sometimes. Such a careless life, I was so young and skinny. lol”

    From AQD

  10. ultimathule says:

Said something about wanting to be nineteen again in an interview – forget which one.

Ah, can understand his looking back now at those crazy years – no real responsibilities – just have fun. Winding up drunk under a tree in a park or something like that – has its charms, I guess.

  11. milwlovesadam says:

I have seen some talk about Kris’ venues. Some of them are super small these days. I remember that Kris was touring around the time of GN. He was booked to play in the same theater here that Adam sold out in 5 minutes flat ( 2,800 ). Kris sold so few tickets they moved him to a smaller venue in town, which still didn’t sell out. And this was close to Idol.

I do think he is a small venue performer with a dedicated fan base. I wouldn’t pay to see him though, but he’s not my cuppa. I do give him credit for being tenacious and sticking with his music. I also give him huge kudos for getting onstage just a couple of days after hand surgery and a major car crash.

I did see that some of his gigs are for 200 and less, some are for 100 and the tickets are less than 25 bucks. If this is true, it’s kind of sad. But, like I said, he really works hard.

  12. Soccermom says:

Riskylady, I agree that 19R had the rights to Adam’s recordings for a certain contracted period since Idol plus any additional option years they decided to renew. Those rights were then licensed exclusively to RCA. The 19R contract either just plain expired with no more options, or they decided to not pick up any remaining options. However, the RCA contract without 19R in the middle appears to still be in place. So either the RCA contract continues for a different period of time into 2013, when that too may end, or the departure of 19R permitted RCA and Adam to work out a different new contract (or they are still negotiating it).

I have read in a number of places that Adam did not have a 360 deal with 19R/RCA, which means they would not have had their hands in the 2012 gigs, just the recordings, except to the extent that they agreed to advance certain expenses of those gigs with the thought that they would sell more recordings. However, now that 19R is out of the picture, there is a lot of speculation that the new contract with RCA would be a 360 deal, since Adam is not a proven radio hit artist nor does he have strong enough Trespassing era sales (even internationally) for a major label like RCA unless the deal is a 360 deal.

I have also read somewhere that AdamOffical website was only renewed for one year, so it is possible that the RCA contract connection expires at a later time in 2013 and either RCA will drop him or work out a new deal.

At least this is what I have gathered from reading a number of articles today.

  13. luval says:

    What is a 360 deal?

  14. ultimathule says:

That’s pretty much what I gleaned from the discussion, too, Soccermom.

  15. Soccermom says:

    http://musicians.about.com/od/ah/g/360deals.htm

On 360 deals – rights to profit from more than just recordings. Also profit from concerts, merchandise AND endorsements. A lot of artist contracts are moving to this if with a major label, since the money these days is from those other things – not so much the recordings, unless you are Bieber or Swifty. OR the artist goes to a smaller label so they can retain those other rights for themselves, but then they have to front more of the up-front investment costs themselves too. So only artists that can profit from live concerts, merchandising, or endorsements will risk doing the smaller label path to avoid the major label demand for a 360 deal.

  16. Soccermom says:

Was just reading back – Mils – the Borg and assimilating – too funny. He is after all from another planet and has some type of magical powers. Are we his collective hive then, that he draws strength from? Apologies to those of you that have never watched Star Trek Next Generation and have no idea what Mils and I are talking about…

  17. Soccermom says:

And the Borg are about total world domination.

  18. milwlovesadam says:

Yes, soccermom, I’m appreciating your interpretation of the news today, and your Trekkiness. Over the holidays there were a couple of Trek marathons, and I recorded them and watched the whole series of movies. Again. First Contact is my all-out favorite. I am very intrigued by the newest movie, love the cast, love the nods to Trek history and the humor. The new movie is due out in May.

I gotta admit, one of the things I love about this fandom is the similarities so many of us have. And then, when we see, for instance, Adam making a Trek reference, and Eber tweeting out clips of Mel Brooks movies, even the stuff Neil tweets ( except his political rants about Israel ) , there is a similarity there, and a sense of humor. Love it.

  19. milwlovesadam says:

And the Borg are about total world domination.

    Ahem. Don’t you mean “universe.?”

LOL. When Adam tried to assimilate in London, he ripped his laces!!

  20. Soccermom says:

Mils – you are correct – universe! Can’t wait for May new movie!

Was just reading over there that 19R usually has option periods that run up to 7 years, but that they probably decided that they did not want to fulfill their part of the deal – advancing Adam $X (speculated at around $275,000-$300,000) because they did not think they could recoup it just from his recordings. Meaning they probably did not recoup the advance from Trespassing or it came too close to risk another one. Kelly, Carrie, etc keep having their 19R contracts renewed (even if they would like to get out of them), because 19R believes that they can recoup the advances. Although you would think Kelly would be out of hers by now or very soon – more than 10 years? Unless the option periods were longer back then.

Back to Adam and 19R not having a 360 deal, so 19R is not profiting from his live concert moneymaking (unless they agreed to invest in them up front), or merchandise or endorsements. So they stop their part of the contract and RCA either completes their part until it expires, or renegotiates a new one, most likely a 360 deal.

  21. Kradamour says:

Hmmm…sounds like Adam has a lot of reason to be contemplative; lots of changes and responsible decisions to make.
On the other hand…we know that he is confident that he will perform forever, which was his dream.
And he is apparently careful with his finances; he has said in interviews that financial security is very important to him, and even that he might have been an accountant. In high school he was a member of DECA, the business club. (It is pathetic that I know that.) So many peeps his age blow through their money as though there is no tomorrow, and we know that Adam is not doing that. Boy has a good head on his shoulders and he listens to people he trusts, and he has a strong support group of those people.
Considerably pre-queenbert it was estimated that he had made at least 6 million dollars. Dunno about anyone else here, but I could live on that, even if I never made another dollar.
It certainly appears that he has the go-ahead for a third album.
Even if it his last, he has Broadway to fall back on, and that is not a bad fallback position.

We know that he wanted to be a pop star. But perhaps he is finding that being a pop star is not all that it is made out to be, or that it looks from the outside looking in. He has said several times that he sometimes feels a little bit like he did in high school, when there were cliques of cool kids and he wasn’t one of them. The paps clearly bother him, and he lives in a fishbowl.

Maybe he will find that he just wants to sing, and doesn’t care too much about the context, as long as he has opportunities to grow as an artist. He is adored in the orient and lots of places that aren’t here. Perhaps his tours will be there, and his production will be here.

We’ve been over this before, peeps.
Adam is fine and will continue to be fine.
But “fine” may be being redefined in Adam’s head. Being home for a while, after a long time away, with those you love at your side, at the new year and at one’s birthday, can do that to a person.

Just some thoughts. Like everyone else, I just speculate.
    Smile

and we will surely see him many more times I’m sure—–I am positive we know where THAT picture came from Yes Big Smile

  25. Kradamour says:

eywflyer, I can’t imagine that Adam won’t find ways to perform and to interact with his fans; that is too important to him.
But I do think that it will be foolish for us to wait for a tour in the future, and miss opportunities to see him live in whatever context. I am grateful for the radio shows/promos that I attended, but I could have made a few more happen. (I even had a ticket for Des Moines, and could have met mils and others from here, but pooped out because of the airfare).

I need another Paris concert at some point, though.

  26. aely says:

Love NFL playoff weekends! Great games today. Anyway, I am throwing this out there. Could it be that RCA did do a 360 deal that would include making money from say, a tour (big or small) with Queen. My thinking behind this happening is this, Brian’s soapbox, his adding all those extra pages in the fan magazine with long time fan reactions, Queen and Brian really tweeting anything regarding Adam not just the stuff that mentions Queen, plus his voice insurance. Not sure why you would need that if you don’t have plans and income and WHO would insure you? Adam has always acted coy and Shoshanna even retweeted the story a couple of times. She really doesn’t do that if it is negative or not real.
Plus, who knows they could be helping produce an album. If I remember right they have produced some of their solo music themselves.
I think we will see him in concerts this year and beyond. If all these other people can do it with a much smaller fan base then so can Adam.

  27. TLKC says:

Just dropping in before I go to bed.

FYI, I lurk over at AO. The site was frozen for a few days around the time that Adam was in Asia doing the MAMA’s. Afterwards some of the AO fans there were talking and they said that Adam renewed his arrangement for the site with RCA for another year. The conversation seemed to assume that access difficulties were connected to contract issues. One fan pointed out that Adam renwed for one year only, Kelly for three.

I didn’t mention it at the time because it didn’t seem to be a big deal but now it makes sense. Adam and RCA must have been in the process of severing some ties and establishing others.

Anyway, Adam says he’s working on a new cd, AO is renewed for 2013, Lindsay Parker says he will be okay and Perez Hilton has never been very nice about anyone, so I’m going to bed and I won’t have any trouble sleeping.

Sad to say, I never did see a Trespassing concert but I did see two Queenbert shows so I’m not complaining. I also think Adam will do a few stateside concerts through the year. We will have to keep our bags packed….

  28. dcglam says:

I hope everyone got to see an Adam concert during the last couple of years…

I feel very fortunate that I was able to attend three Trespassing shows within the past year. By doing so, I also had the privilege of meeting peeps from this site who have since become very near and dear to me. Thank you, eywflyer! I can peacefully admit that I am now ready to say goodbye to the Trespassing era and eager to move on to Album #3. Along with this transition, I am looking forward to many more Adam concerts in the years ahead. They will happen, and I plan to be there! Yes

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVOwoJQiVS0

… but unfortunately, and all too often, that isn’t the way it works out in real life.

I was recently hurt to the very depth of my soul … how over the top dramatic!!! … but that’s the best way to put it.

The thought crossed my mind that it might be better to not be here any more.

But, thanks to Gil, TLKC and, my straight wife luval (I’m her gay husband), I’m still here and posting and now posting that I’m off to bed.

You know what? After all the negative thoughts I’ve recently had about myself, that others have made me feel, that I allowed them to make me feel, I don’t think I sound half bad in that video! It was a direct response to the way I was feeling at that moment.

Maybe 19 … whatever it is … will hire me?

No smiley face. Don’t feel like joking around … just want to go to bed.

    Good night.

Just viewed the sweet vid some young Iranian fans made for Adam’s birthday. Made me ashamed for feeling sorry for myself this week when I have had the opportunity to see Adam “live” so many times while these fans may never have the chance. How amazing that Adam touches the hearts of so many souls all over the world (maybe even the universe Laugh )

  45. rs says:

Oh ron, I noticed that you weren’t here for a while! I missed you. I hope that nobody here was responsible for the hurt you felt. You can’t leave! You are one of the lynchpins of this blog and you are one of the people who I feel that I have a real relationship with even though I haven’t met you (but we will remedy that when I get to Toronto this summer). If you just want to talk you have my email. I don’t want to say that I “loved” your song because I could feel your pain, but it touched my heart.

  46. rs says:

Just viewed the sweet vid some young Iranian fans made for Adam’s birthday

I watched that vid, too, and wondered if it was really made in Iran. The dress and the make-up that the kids were wearing is so unacceptable there. Of course I know that they could never go outside like that, and maybe they just got dressed up for the video. But I was thinking that they might be part of the Iranian expat community in the US. Just sayin’…

    Good morning, Ron!
I just woke up and read your post. It made me very sad, but it also made me think. Although I have never had the good fortune of meeting you in person, I feel that you are one of the most utterly delightful people that I have ever come across. You have a wonderful gift of bringing joy to others. I would say ugh to anyone or anything that would make you feel otherwise. You know that very wise man, Adam Lambert.
Well, he once said this about ignorant people (bullies)… “If you give them the power to affect you, you’re letting them win. And they don’t deserve that.”
Thank you for sharing yourself with us, Ron. That is a part of what makes you so special. And yes, you did a lovely job!!! Blowing Kisses
