19 Entertainment has contracts with Idol contestants. There is a management division and a recording division.
Adam dropped the management in 2011 and hired DMG. Management would handle bookings, concerts, appearances, etc.
Adam had a recording contract with 19/RCA.
RCA is his label. I’m not sure how responsibilities and profits are divided among the groups.
Apparently this is the last of the contractual ties to Idol.
Outside Edge (Shoshanna) is his PR rep dealing with his media exposure.
This is how I sort of understand it. Anyone please add your thoughts!

But what I don’t understand, if he had a recording contract with 19/RCA, are they 2 different labels? He dropped 19 but is still with RCA. So was the role of 19 recordings different from RCA? I assume there are many corporate fusions in the history and that’s what makes this so difficult to understand.

From what I’ve been able to gather, 19 earns profits from record sales and possibly merchandise, and they may also front some of the money for recording and tour expenses.
Since Idol brought these artist to public attention, they would want a share of the profits from their sales.
19 Recordings is separate from the record labels with “partnerships” with various labels; RCA, Arista Nashville, Interscope…
I think Adam’s artistic direction with his albums has always dealt with RCA A&R teams, so nothing has changed there.
19 will no longer be taking profits on new ventures, but will also not be funding any.
One less entity to deal with.
That’s the part that I don’t understand Lady North. How can he still be with RCA but not 19R? Does RCA still have other labels? Has Adam been offered a chance to negotiate with the other RCA labels to see if he can come up with a mutually satisfactory arrangement on his own?
IMHO, RCA has to be concerned about letting someone like Adam go. It’s possible that he could hit it out of the park with a single next time around and an executive who decided not to re-sign him would have some answering to do. By putting Adam and his managment in charge of talking to internal labels, they can either sign him with a contract that reflects his current sales levels or have him say goodbye. That way, it’s not on their head if he goes to a new label and strikes big.
Not worrying about whether there will be a new cd. He’ll sign with someone, for sure. I’m with kradamour, though. If Adam never made another cd (G*d forbid) he has a strong body of work in the existing ones and they will stand up over time.

I understand that one less entity to pay is a plus but Adam needs an investor and, when he gets one, he will have to pay them. Interim relief is nice though.
I hope Adam can come to an agreement with another RCA label. He’s a lot smarter now, free to negotiate on his own terms and he will have very good managment support in his negotiations.
As far as we know Adam has not parted ways with RCA.
RCA is a record label, there doesn’t need to be another division involved. If you look at their roster, only a few of the artists are listed with a division other than just RCA.
This is a complicated business, I hope that DMG will negotiate a great deal for Adam whenever those contracts come up.
We may see him release singles way ahead of the album this time, and hopefully they will do well!
Just remembered something.
adamofficial.com is owned and operated by RCA. Fans on that site were discussing the matter last month and, apparently, Adam re-newed it with RCA for another year some time in December. That confirms that things are still in motion, not limbo. The renewal was for one year and, apparently Kelly renewed for a longer period.

I just see Adam has having a big future. This split with 19, I tend to agree with cher, it’s just fewer people to skim off the top.

TLKC, what that number means to me, is that record sales are waaaaay down for everyone. Except Bruno, Bieber, Adele and a handful of others. Oh, Swifty. But 179 is good, despite everything.

I was hoping for 200,000 because that was the number that a music executive cited as the expectation for a cd, in an article someone posted last year. IMHO, it was a shame that Adam signalled the end of the Trespassing era before the holidays. I think the fan base would have marshalled a better Christmas gifting effort if they had thought the cd was still in play.
Adam’s international sales would easily put him over 200,000 units but I don’t know if the executive counted ex-US sales as part of the equation.
Interesting. I noticed the ring on Sauli’s hand in the pic you posted nkd but didn’t want to jump the gun. It’s on the “wrong” hand but I think some countries like Germany put it on the other hand.

And the thing about living across from Kelly…IMO, Adam is grown up now. 31 years young. Can’t see partying all night long anymore like a teenager. Am hoping (and pretty sure) Adam has more sense than that.
And actually it may be uncomfortable. Remember the Seinfeld episode about the “pop-in”? I know I couldn’t live very close to a friend. Would be too hard to get rid of them when you want your privacy!! And popping in at the most inopportune times is awful!

I see it as a good thing. Can you imagine the bonanza 19 has been having with all his high profile gigs? China, Queen, etc. Good riddance. DMG/Outside Edge are doing good jobs IMHO. New record with RCA!
Yup. No Debbie Downer here. Nope. I view this as “freeing” so that he can go in any direction he wants. Screw pop radio. He needs to develop a different niche.
Our guy is such a chameleon. Who knows what he’ll morph into next. Maybe he’s Borg. He just assimilates and grows stronger.
I see it as a good thing, too. 19R was in the middle of Adam’s relationship with RCA, as a go-between, representing Idol. Now he and DMG are free to negotiate new terms with RCA as needed, and DMG is in charge of all of Adam’s bookings, and there is one fewer entity to skim off the profits. I don’t think 19R gave him all that much benefit above and beyond DMG and RCA – I think 19R primarily exists to “pay back” Idol for bringing the artists to mainstream attention and to represent the Idol stable as a group. The contract expired and the parties chose not to re-up. Now all contractual ties with Idol have ended. I agree with MJ that all Idol artists are smart to move away from 19 contracts as soon as they can so that they can negotiate their contracts for management and recording directly for the best terms possible, without Idol entities in the equation.
What do I know? Well, nothin really, but that’s my opinion nonetheless!
Can anyone clearly see what the brand of champagne is? Someone on twitter said that it’s Cristal, which goes for $350 per bottle. If so, that would suggest that they’re celebrating something, no?
I don’t think I’d put too much weight on the fact that Sauli is wearing a ring on his right-hand ring finger. Just like Adam, Sauli wears a lot of rings on different fingers all the time.
