2013 will apparently begin with a rather quiet month for Adam, as he has only one performance currently scheduled. This will be a Hennessy Artistry event in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on January 4. After that, Adam’s next scheduled event is the kickoff of his international “non-tour” in Seoul, South Korea on February 17. There is no official word as yet on whether some North American dates will eventually be added to the non-tour in the spring, but recent comments from Adam have not been very optimistic.

Above we see Adam performing at his final concert of 2012, at the Mulia Resort in Bali, Indonesia. Happy New Year and enjoy the chat!

I agree that the dancers are all over the place and very distracting. Terence and Johnny have very different styles of dancing, which sabotages any attempt at having choreographed moves. Although I really liked Terence in GNT, I think that the VJJ’s add enough visually and that Adam should have the rest of the stage for his own much appreciated gyrations.

  3. luval says:

Trying to remember the first show he used Terrence & Johnny. WB, Fantasy Springs, Phoenix, …. no dancers and the shows were just great.

And the toasts just keep on coming – because everyone just keeps on chatting!
This time it is TLKC who has reached 1000 posts!
Congrats TLKC – a toast for your posts!

  5. HK fan says:

I don’t like the dancers either purely for the fact that they never seem in sync, or doing moves together. I liked the dancers on GNT, the moves were well choreographed, they were in time, and I loved it when Adam joined in a little bit. Plus they were only on a few songs so Adam still had lots of time to move around himself.i agree with the word sloppy now, and unrehearsed. And while I’m at it, I think the girls should stay to one side singing in the background. I don’t want them keep walking and moving all over the stage…

  6. retjenny says:

The dancers were at Cape Town S.A. That might be the first one.

  7. retjenny says:

mmm222 A few days back you mention that you had written detailed recaps of some of the concerts. I remember some way back at the beginning of Glamnation that the writer talked about kind of tricking her husband into going. They had planned to stop for dinner but then got caught in a traffic jam and just made it to the concert. Something along those lines. Could that have been you?

  8. nkd says:

I got your email address LadyNorth if you’d like to remove it from the planning thread.
I love licorice but I’m going to pass for now. Thank you so so much though! Too much temptation and I’m trying to be good.

  9. luval says:

Well, since this is a non-tour & Adam may not have the support of whoever behind him for a real tour, he’s perhaps not as serious about putting a show together tight enough.

Adam gives 110% & the band does too it seems, but IMO dancers are along for the ride. Not that there is anything wrong with this. It just gives the show an amateur feel.

Will be interesting to see what happens after this non-tour is over.

    Yup,SA was first. Thanks, retjenny.

  10. luval says:

btw…I love that January photo up top. Reminds me of GN with a bit of Trespassing thrown in. Adam really loves those hats & fringe (I do too!).

This awesome picture is from the S.F. Jingle Ball. That jacket looks even more spectacular when you see it live. He looked so happy and focused that night. It was a short set so no change of costumes – just straight out singing. The only time he interrupted the singing was to comment on the school shooting tragedy. He was articulate and sincere and said that only way we can help is to love each other. Then he sang “Is This Love”. Very moving

  14. Ginger says:

    TLKC, welcome aboard.

Went to see Les Miz today with D and GD. After all the comments I was expecting not to like it, but I have to say I was emotionally involved to the point of tears along the way and I am not a crier. Glad I went.

Do not care for the dancers.

  15. luval says:

ultimathule…take the plunge and look at the videos! Always love your reaction & comments.

I just posted a recap on the Bali thread. She loved the dancers. LOL!

  16. mmm222 says:

retjenny– No, it wasn’t me. There is no way I could get my husband to go to a concert, even with elaborate trickery. As long as he continues to have no objection to my going without him, that’s fine with me.

  17. luval says:

So here is Russell Crowe’s take on the tweet:

    http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=11829114&l=3128d7836c&id=252558399090

Earlier today I read somewhere that Hugh Jackman may not have said what was printed. It was a hoax. But who knows.

  18. milwlovesadam says:

Finally saw Les Miz today. Gotta admit to lots of tears the last half hour or so, but, I do think Adam was right about some of the vocals. There is a big difference between a stage musical and a movie. To me, the biggest changes were the undersinging and great acting of I Dreamed a Dream and Take Him Home. I understand that by bringing it down to pure emotion the movie was made. I get it.

But, to me, a lover of musicals on stage and on film, I can see Adam’s disappointment. But, overall, Jackman was fantastic, Anne Hathaway was wonderful, Marius, had a great voice, Eponine was beautifully sung, however, Cosette was undersung and screechy.

I actually was surprised by how good Sascha Baron Cohen was, and now can totally see him playing Freddie Mercury.

I don’t think this is a movie I want to see over and over. Chicago, yes. Dreamgirls, yes. Mama Mia, no way. Rock of Ages was ruined by actors who couldn’t sing at all.
    IMHO.

  19. nkd says:

Earlier today I read somewhere that Hugh Jackman may not have said what was printed. It was a hoax. But who knows.

I’m pretty sure that the comment attributed to Jackman was not so much a hoax but just an imaginative tweet by @_izla_zandzz. She had a series of Examine Him: tweets yesterday. She is a very creative writer and goes off on a little sarcasm tear sometimes.

  20. nkd says:

I still haven’t seen Rock of Ages, but I love Mamma Mia! I was never a big Abba fan but the songs are part of my teen years, constantly played on the radio, so I knew them all. It’s a fun movie.

  21. luval says:

Hugh Jackman is on twitter but hasn’t tweeted since December 21st.

  22. loveroftalent says:

    @luvalOh!Oh!

  23. HK fan says:

I love MAmma Mia, not because of the quality of singing because most of the cast didn’t have that great of voices, it was just such a fun, feel good movie.

Haven’t seen Dreamgirls so can’t comment. As for sort of musicals, I really enjoy Burlesque too.

  28. riskylady says:

Wow. I was watching Pop That Lock – so close on that video and full screen – and you know how we always ask, “There were dancers?” Well, just a video, but so close, he’s just so gorgeous and magnetic it’s almost to the point where you think, “Oh, he’s singing?”

  29. ultimathule says:

Lovin’ those Welcome vids – make me feel happy.

  30. ultimathule says:

Watched the Bali vids – and, yes, riskylady, PTL was a stunner – his voice is simply spectacular – think it’s just getting better all the time.

My 2 cents on the tweet controversy–

My daughter excelled in high school chorus and was the only one at her school selected to try out for the state chorus. When the school decided to stage a production, they chose a musical. But they chose the drama club to perform it. However, my daughter got to sing the female lead, and several other chorus members had singing parts. They had to hide behind the back curtain to sing while the “actors” were out front lip-syncing. It was crazy.

When I was in school our a Capella chorus put on the school musicals and we acted the parts also. The drama club put on the school play. We managed to find quite a few singers who did very well at acting. Our production of “West Side Story” was particularly memorable.

I loved “My Fair Lady” and felt cheated when I found out it wasn’t really Audrey Hepburn singing. The actor playing “Freddie” wasn’t singing either, although I read that he had a credible singing voice.

On the other hand, I love Mary Poppins, Sound of Music and Victor/Victoria, because I loved Julie Andrews’ voice. No matter how many times I’ve seen her movies, I will always watch just one more time.

But I also love Mama Mia, even with the imperfect voices, especially Pierce Brosnan’s. I bought the video and have watched it several times. I love the songs in this one, but it’s pop music and doesn’t have to be sung perfectly, just with gusto and feeling.

Chicago is another favorite. The leads all did a credible job singing. Good actors, decent singing, for what the movie called for.

I know nothing about Les Miserables–never saw it, never read the book, never heard the songs. It seems to me though, that the presentation relied heavily on singing, and the style was more that just pop music. I can imagine someone familiar with it and had high expectations might be disappointed.

I did not mind Adam tweeting his disappointment. I think he probably could have worded it a little better, but I won’t speculate any motives. I am a fan of Russell Crowe, and I know he fronts his own band, so it’s not like he doesn’t sing. Hugh Jackman is also known to be a singer in other Broadway shows. In that way, I wouldn’t say that they were actors pretending to sing, just that their singing style didn’t match what the production called for. In that way, I agree that the singing was of secondary importance to the acting, and I agree that they should have been able to find people who could do both.

As for singing live–Adam knows how hard that is. There are many recording artists who cannot master it. It makes sense that they should have tweaked it in the studio before releasing the movie. You would still have the feel of being live, yet, the vocals can be adjusted so they would not be distracting to the emotion of the story.

  34. Calgary says:

Awwww those Vietnamese videos are so sweet! Especially the one where they gave out the letters of Adam’s name. I hope they all show up at the concert like that. And I really hope that Adam sees the videos before he gets there.

  35. ultimathule says:

Kris Allen broke his arm in an auto accident – he’s OK, but, Krad, looks like that concert will be delayed again. (Took out the lol – guess not appropriate.)

  36. turquoisewaters says:

I think he probably could have worded it a little better,

I’d have to agree. That all caps “PRETENDING” did him in. And as Krad said, would have been a lot smoother to leave the criticizing to others and just praise the good parts. But that’s also Adam. Not always thinking everything through 100%.

  37. riskylady says:

HK fan just posted a wonderful review of the Bali concert on that thread. GO READ! This will definitely help sales for Jakarta in March.

ETA: Going back to PTL, ultima, you are so right, that voice is sublime. And that blue suit fits very very well, nice that the jacket is sort of shortish in the back.
