2013 will apparently begin with a rather quiet month for Adam, as he has only one performance currently scheduled. This will be a Hennessy Artistry event in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on January 4. After that, Adam’s next scheduled event is the kickoff of his international “non-tour” in Seoul, South Korea on February 17. There is no official word as yet on whether some North American dates will eventually be added to the non-tour in the spring, but recent comments from Adam have not been very optimistic.

Above we see Adam performing at his final concert of 2012, at the Mulia Resort in Bali, Indonesia. Happy New Year and enjoy the chat!

Sneaking in during a break in my schedule at work (shhh don’t tell anyone!) to post my Australian 29-year old male indie band musician/drummer colleague’s listening notes.

Thanks for your patience! Been a little crazy this week.

Here you go! (He happily gave me permission to share this with you, by the way.)

Well, it’s only taken me 3 months but I am delighted to finally present to you my listening notes for the various Adam Lambert tracks you referred me to. And might I say, what a task it was!

He is one dynamic, talented performer! I wanted to listen to the album a few times straight through (I use a service called “spotify” which I pay a monthly subscription to and can listen to virtually anything I want) which was the main reason for the hold up. There definitely is strong shape to this album and it comes through bigtime when you have a few listens. The whole thing actually hangs together really well – it’s a good pop album, with plenty of fun, but good measure of substance and depth too (a hard combo to achieve!). And at 17 tracks it’s a MEGA album! Anyway, without any further ado here are my thoughts…

Trespassing – This is a fast, upbeat stomper for sure! Almost reminds me of a faster version of ‘Another one Bites the Dust’ with that bass line! Even has the “We Will Rock You” hand claps..

Cuckoo – I love the start on this song. The synth is awesome! Definitely lots of fun in this song too. The syncopated beat keeps it edgy, while the chorus has an almost “anthem” vibe about it. Very cool.

Shady – you can pick the Sparro influence straight off the bat. Chorus really lifts the song to a new level – brings the whole thing together. Each time I hear this song it reminds me more and more of Stevie Wonder (if Stevie Wonder was just getting going today). Funky and fun. I like this one a lot. It’s got a “swishyness” about it.

Never Close Our Eyes – definitely a strong pop song. I like the juxtaposition of the verse vs the chorus. The verse has an almost “start-stop” motion, then the pre-chorus has the hand claps on 1,2,3,4 which builds suspense, and then the chorus kicks in and the pop is unleashed. I feel like dancing when I listen to this one. It also reminds me of summer and having fun with friends. Not sure why, but it does!

Kickin In – I was surprised by this one. I wasn’t expecting the ‘rap-like’ content, but the more I listened the more I like it. Reminds me a little of a Justin Timberlake song, but it grooves. Another good song to dance to!

Naked Love – Cool start to this song (if not a little “Gaga”). Strangely enough I have developed a serious soft spot for this song. It’s light and breezy, but catchy and creates a good vibe. It’s close to my favourite on the album, I think!

Pop That Lock – definitely a club song. It’s got a darkness about this one not heard as yet on the album. It also has a sassiness which is quite cool.

Better Than I Know Myself – This is a transition point in the album for me. He lifts the lid a little more than previously on this one. This is the first song for me where I find myself really listening to the lyrics. The piano is a very nice touch in the background. Beautiful, actually.

Broken English – “slow trance” is the term I think captures much of what is happening here. There are dreamy elements, infused with some heavy electronic elements which merge to create an unusual texture. It’s reflective while exciting. Cool song.

Underneath – the first true “slow song” on the album. Lyrically a very powerful song. A theme also emerges at this point along the lines of “knowing the real me” or “who I really am”. Chorus vocals are really powerful. I love the change up in the second verse – it’s exciting and tense. Quite dark too.

Chokehold – has a late 80’s early 90’s vibe in some respects. Lots of movement in the bass line which creates a cool groove. This has a sassiness about it which is alluring. There’s a confidence coming through in this song which is hard to describe.

Outlaws of Love – genuine ballad. I have asked myself several times what he is singing about in this song? It his sexuality? A long lost love? By any measure, a very moving and heartfelt song. The high notes he hits are beautiful and has a semi-celtic vibe to it.

Runnin’ – This is another quite dark pop song. I sense almost an anger within coming through on this, matched with a new found resolve. It’s quite an uplifting song in many respects. The build in the bridge is awesome and it makes for an epic final chorus. Very uplifting in fact.

Take Back – I wasn’t expecting this one so late in the album. But it works! This is where the shape in the album really started to make sense to me. This song works really well juxtaposed against some of the slower, heavier tracks just passed.

Nirvana – I love the groove in this song! The chorus is really quite beautiful. It’s a pop ballad with a spiritual dimension coming through. Images of hope shine on this one.

By The Rules – this one definitely comes from left field for me – but in a good way! It’s reggae meets RnB, and definitely grooves. It’s a very summery kind of song with lots of fun and a carefree vibe coming through (despite the name of the song). It’s a nice reward following some of the heavier ballads.

Map – a very nice way to wrap the album. It’s a long journey to this point and this song has closure to it, and although slowish, is still upbeat. A positive finish to a very enjoyable album. Rare to find!

Thank you again for taking the time to send me these recommendations. I now have this album on my favourites and am enjoying it immensely. It was a pleasure listening to the tracks and being able to send through some thoughts.

    Big Smile

I agree with so much of what he says about every track. And one thing I really like about his listening notes is that it’s obvious he really “got” what Adam was trying to achieve with this album, just from a few careful listens. And I like seeing what he, as a serious musician, focused on and appreciated. I’m pleased that he liked it so much.

As a reward, of course, I am sending him the Trespassing Deluxe CD and the Kiev Queenbert DVD. Big Smile

Well, our guy is ranting all over twitter. He’s going on about fame and celebrity and how people criticize and attack each others essences.

Oh, we thought it was going to be slow around here. LOL.

    Oh, nkd, our sabers crossed!

  14. Oksana2000 says:

Mils, I like that he has a meaninigful convo. Not like some celebs who tweet what they had for dinner.

  15. milwlovesadam says:

    OMG nkd!!

So why the frack doesn’t he just put OUR Elmo on Glee??

  16. milwlovesadam says:

Oksana, of course, I love it that he has meaningful dialogues. He just gets misquoted and misunderstood so much , that it becomes part of the dialogue.

Mils, I watched F word many times on TV. It was on OnDemand channels, I dont remember which one.

  19. milwlovesadam says:

No, it looks like Darren Criss or someone from Glee, IMHO

  20. milwlovesadam says:

It was on Music Choice, on demand.

  21. Oksana2000 says:

Mils, you mean that OUR Elmo was stolen????? Any decent Glambert will know who it belongs to.

  22. nkd says:

So why the frack doesn’t he just put OUR Elmo on Glee??

    No kidding!!!

That is Darren Criss in the photo.

  23. luval says:

    That’s not our Elmo. Frown

  24. luval says:

Maybe our Elmo will show up and pop him in the noggin.

  25. luval says:

I’m waiting for someone on twitter to ask him what kind of ice cream he likes.

  26. HK fan says:

love that photo nkd, its a start……and it did have a wink next to a glee comment that someone asked him about on his twitter party, maybe there’s something in the works!

Love, love your friends review cwm, he seemed to like all of them in some way.

nice video of Sauli before and after Adam, he didn’t have many tats when he was in the BB house.

  27. milwlovesadam says:

Haha luval. He’s doing something serious now. Man, cleansing sure does bring out contemplative Adam.

I’m waiting now for the backlash feedback.

  28. milwlovesadam says:

Who’s on twitter that can tell me how the feed looks? Is he getting flack and nonsense or serious replies?

  29. luval says:

Hey, there are 2 openings now for judges on x-factor. LA Reid’s & Britney Spears…….

Wonder if they are invited to Golden Globes this Sunday?

  30. luval says:

    Guess he’s done, now.

    Adam Lambert ‏@adamlambert

Ok I’ve ranted enough on this soapbox that is twitter. I love a good discussion. Grateful for everyone’s insight- been enlightening.

I find discussions like this are very hard to do on twitter. They are more for face to face group talks.

  31. luval says:

    Well, almost done.

    Adam Lambert ‏@adamlambert

And FYI- ANYONE is welcome in this Glamily. ANYONE. Please be welcoming and kind. Quit cyber fighting.

Really not sure how this all started.

  32. Kradamour says:

Yup, our boy loves a good discussion and doesn’t hesitate to make them happen.
Mils, most of the replies were respectful and surprisingly on topic – no ice cream inquiries!
One kid posted “F*CK OFF!” and Adam acknowledged it and told him to cool down.
Someone else told him that the Dixie Chicks criticism applied to him, too: Just shut up and sing.
    Overall quite a good conversation.
Loved the tweet that said something like “Darn, you are making me think!”

Okay totally cannot love him more.
    In Love

  33. milwlovesadam says:

    ITA Krads,

but, I’m expecting someone like PH to twist this and post it online..

  34. luval says:
  35. Kradamour says:

Okay gonna say it. I don’t care if Adam never sings another note.
I don’t even think of him as a singer any longer. He is too multi-faceted. His intelligence, his articulateness, his belief system, his efforts to make the world a better place, his role modeling…I think that has come to mean much more to me than his performances. And I think it is becoming more and more important to him, too (although of course not to the exclusion or even diminishment of singing…but as an addition)

I think we are seeing the blooming of someone who will become much more involved in social activism and who will become respected and sought-out. Another Bono, but in the context of social humanism. (If that isn’t the name of a field of study, it should be.) or a Brian May, but replace “badgers” with struggling humans.

Not that I think Adam will stop performing, but that he will find additional outlets for the passion that has been put into his performing before fame gave him a platform, in the same way that Bono and Brian have.

(And on a somewhat more shallow note, I love that he defended Kesha and complimented her legs…)

  36. milwlovesadam says:

Did I miss something about Ke$ha?

  37. turquoisewaters says:

Planet Fierce: Congratulations!! I hope all 3 generations are doing well. I think it is very unique to see a grandchild grow up. (I’m not there yet.) Let the wonders begin.

  38. milwlovesadam says:

Why do I get the feeling that something massive is coming with Queen?

  39. Kradamour says:

A happy surprise! I just went through today’s mail…and a letter from our pastor says that our church will be performing our first same-sex ceremony in a few weeks, for a long-time same-sex couple in our church! Even though our congregation has embraced the concept of union equality for ages, this is the first time that it has been sanctioned by the hierarchy.
Not a marriage, not called marriage, but almost the same ceremony, and a HUGE step in the right direction. Just a matter of time, now – the bridegroom has been carried over the threshold!

  40. Kradamour says:

mils, someone dissed kesha when he tweeted out her new video. Adam said she was cool, said they had hung out.

@keshasuxx you look so cute! Your legs are killin!
    &
@RockAngel1993 hey be nice! We’ve hung out and she’s real and down to earth. Supporting a friend.
In reply to @RockAngel1993: smh what’s with u complimenting her, don’t u know real music..

  41. HK fan says:

meant to say, congrats Planet fierce on your first grandchild, how truly special…..I want one!!

And you know I said a while back about Adams advert for this years Idol (he seems to be the only ex Idol doing one this year so far), well I still see it, but also he recorded a countdown, so each day they have a quick clip of him saying Idol, only 10 days to go, and Idol, only 6 days to go etc….

  42. Kradamour says:

Planet Fierce, congratulations! Many peeps here have grandchildren and love them to death!
(I have told both of my boys to not even THINK about having a child until I am gone, though! Kinda ridiculous to be a grandmother at 29…)
    Grin

  43. Kradamour says:

HKFan, so cool about the countdown!

Here is another countdown to bring back a memory…
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi1se7XOE6o

  44. nkd says:

Kradamour, it’s wonderful about the same-sex ceremony occurring at your church.

I agree with your post at 7:31 about Adam becoming more socially active, except for the never hearing him sing again. I think I might have to curl up in a padded cell somewhere with my ipod.

  45. milwlovesadam says:

Ha! I still think Ke$ha is responsible for , um, “de-flowering ” our boy. Not gonna be changing my mind about this any time soon. I do find it interesting that he doesn’t get asked about it, or isn’t hammered by fans about it with questions about who exactly it was. And it’s been a long time too.

FWIW “hanging out” these days means anything from our 29 year old interpretation of hanging out, to having sex. As in, ” we were hanging out and I forgot to bring a condom, so we did it anyway.”

  46. Kradamour says:

    Re kesha:
    1. It is none of our business.
    2. But so is a lot of stuff that we obsess about!
    3. And I agree.
    4. And I think that it was a good experience for both of them.
    5. And they seem to have a special relationship, with much in common.
    6. And I am delighted for any and all good things that happen to our boy, so I totally approve.
    Wink

  47. Miss Chaos says:

Well crap. Its time for our guy to have another twitter rampage so that the other place can give us something to do, the threads over there are so boring and under 20 responses, when Adam did his remarks about LeMiz there were over 400 responses, sooooo who gets the most remarks, who has the best fans, according to Ryan Seacrest, Adam Lambert does, so there!!!

  48. Miss Chaos says:

Mils, what do you mean? Blush

  49. milwlovesadam says:

    Yup. Krads. Just “Yup.”

  50. milwlovesadam says:

Miss Chaos, what do you think I mean? Devil Moi?
