2013 will apparently begin with a rather quiet month for Adam, as he has only one performance currently scheduled. This will be a Hennessy Artistry event in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on January 4. After that, Adam’s next scheduled event is the kickoff of his international “non-tour” in Seoul, South Korea on February 17. There is no official word as yet on whether some North American dates will eventually be added to the non-tour in the spring, but recent comments from Adam have not been very optimistic.

Above we see Adam performing at his final concert of 2012, at the Mulia Resort in Bali, Indonesia. Happy New Year and enjoy the chat!

I hope the third album is for the fans–incorporating more of what we like the most:

Who decides that? The tastes of Adam’s fans are about as varied as the number of his fans. The only thing that we have in common (in musical taste) is the love and appreciation of his voice. Because of that I have been exposed to and grown to love songs in musical genres that in the past I would have never listened to. Sure, there are songs that I connect to more than others, but I would never want that to dictate what he does in the future, it might make us miss some delightful new surprises. I just want Adam to keep trusting his own instincts, putting his voice front and center, making us dance, laugh, and cry with his musical magic.

cwm that collage of gymnast Sauli was breathtaking. Definitely worth going into the corner to contemplate.

  3. cwm says:

I agree, rs. Sometimes when I look at Adam and I look at Sauli, I just wonder if they each thank their lucky stars that they found each other. Each of them is so beautiful in his own way, and they are such a gorgeous couple together.

  4. LadyNorth says:

cwm and rs, maybe we could add into that collage also the photos of Sauli doing his air acrobatics movements with silk robes – that photo was also in twitter re #newpositions Smile Maybe they used those robes… Grin

Mils thank you for your compliment earlier! But I have to confess pervbert(ing) is not a product of my imagination, I’ve seen it in twitter. Suits fine with some cornerish episodes though Wink

  5. Soccermom says:

Does anyone know if there have been announcements about who will perform on the Grammys on 2/10/13?

  6. TLKC says:

Yes please, Lady North! I wonder how Sauli’s acrobatic silk lessons are going. Maybe that’s the source of Adam’s entertaining night. Grin

I agree with rs on Adam’s third cd. What do the fans want? Almost every song is ardently liked and disliked, depending on the fan. From the start, we were all squeeing over different songs and arguing for this favourite or that. Our tastes are so divergent that he can’t please all or even most of us.

The biggest thing I hope for out of the next cd is for it to be released the way Frank Ocean’s was: as a surprise, well before anyone can post it on YouTube or soundcloud for illegal downloads. Much of Ocean’s 1st week sales success was due to that and everyone is talking as much about that as the cd itself.

I love both FYE and Trespassing cd’s. Expect I’ll love whatever comes next.

  7. LadyNorth says:

    Hi TLKC!

I think too that there are some songs that are more popular than others. But not the way that there is one big hit loved above all. I have no idea what’s next album gonna be like. Adam said in one interview (from Vietnam??) that artists like Madonna and Michael Jackson did something new every time, that’s what a great artist does. I bet that’s what he wants to do. Make something new, but I am sure he does it his way.

I have no idea how much the record label has control over that. In some other interview he said something about control. That he is a control freak but it’s growing up that you know when you have to give up the control for someone else and surrender. I wonder did he mean something related to his career, music that he makes, way he makes. Anyone else remember hearing that, I don’t remember where it was… But recently.

My wish is that whatever the new music is, it shows his beautiful singing voice – no autotune or rap please Wink

  8. rs says:

I think it was in that recent CCTV interview LadyNorth, but I would have to go back and listen to the whole thing to find the exact quote. It was in the last part of the interview.

  9. LadyNorth says:

Thanks rs! I took a quick look and there it was. I’ve been thinking a lot is it, and what way connected to this situation with no Trespassing Tour, new approach etc…

“Part of being in control of your life is knowing when to surrender”

  10. TLKC says:

LOL! Adam is not the surrendering type. It must be hard for him but it’s a process, as he would say. Good things also come to those who wait. 2013 versions of the DIVAS MC spot and PLL episode.

BTW, I am convinced that Adam will perform Trespassing concerts in North America in 2013. Just not a tour. (Off to work – have a great day, guys!)

another possibility is the Peoples Choice Awards, which are live on Wednesday. Options could be red carpet, presenting, or performing, because even though there is a list of performers out there, it also says “and more”. Of course, if he was performing, I would think they would advertise that to get his fans to watch?

  14. ultimathule says:

I’ve never come to a conclusion as to why radio doesn’t play his music. Is it the music the suits don’t like and/or don’t think it’s commercial – or is it that he’s just not respected as a musician like Bruno. Influence/money a part if it? Play other artists for whom initially there seems to be no demand. Wonder if even he knows.

  15. luval says:

    Couple of things…

nkd…It sounded & looked like Adam to me in that Wicked video.

Regarding Liberace movie…Who would go see this movie? Who in the last couple of generations even knows who he is? I predict a huge flop. Opening generating less than 2 million.

Out of the theaters in one week. Don’t mean to be harsh. Smile
I’ve taped the Guy vs Rachel show. Watched it last time. These stars think they can cook! Funny show. Am interested to see how Johnny Weir was.

I gifted a Queen DVD at work today. As usual the conversation usually starts with “Who’s watching the Bachelor tonight?”, Then it leads to other reality shows…AI starting up soon. “Oh, you’ve watched it in the past?” This leads to Adam…traveling…Glam Nation, etc, etc. This girl loved (I said loved), Adam. What is he doing now, etc etc. She thought she heard that he had a second album. Then I asked her if she liked Queen and she replied they are one of my favorite groups of all time. So I whipped out my Queen DVD I always carry with me & gave it to her. She was thrilled. As millions of other people, had no idea he sang with them last year.

  16. nkd says:

cwm, the Bali gifs on the floor are from Are You Gonna Go My Way.

  17. nkd says:

luval, you are a great ambassador for the cause!

I agree with your thoughts on the Liberace movie, and think that it will be viewed on HBO which is prob the best place for it.

My grandmother loved Liberace. She saw him several times in Vegas and was thrilled when he gave her some personal attention in the audience one time. I can remember doing some eyerolling! I’m wondering now if that was the reason they made so many Vegas trips! Laugh

  18. luval says:

ultimathule…that is the question of the ages. Wonder if we’ll ever get an answer. All I know is my local dj said “we don’t even play songs by people who are doing better than him”. This is not an answer. Why not?

When you have songs like Ho Hey by the Lumineers, Scream & Shout, Thrift Shop and others in the top 10, make me wonder what the heck is going on.

This subject has been discussed many times but I want to know the answer too.

  19. rs says:

luval here is the article I originally posted that started the discussion about the Liberaci movie. It is going to HBO and not to the theaters because no studio would make it. It was considered too gay. I remember Liberaci when I was growing up. I didn’t like his type of music, but I can imagine that quite a good story could be made about him and what he went through, being who he was at the time he lived. I would go see a movie about him directed by Steven Soderburg and starring Michael Douglas and Mat Damon.

    http://tv.yahoo.com/news/steven-soderbergh-every-studio-rejected-liberace-film-too-011822449.html

  20. luval says:

Thanks, rs….HBO…does ring a bell Smile

  21. Soccermom says:

I agree that it was Adam in Megan Hilty video (it sure sounded like it was his voice in there anyway and the character that bowed and took Megan’s hand was the only costume like that where the male was tall enough to be Adam).

I am over 29 and know who Liberace is but would not buy a theater ticket to see that movie, even though Mike Douglas and Matt Damon are in it and it is not because Liberace was gay or that the movie would be “too gay”. But since I already pay for HBO, I would watch it because of those actors and producer/director and because it is an interesting backstory set in a very different time regarding the gay lifestyle. So I can see why a studio would not want to pay to make it to have the theater release (if other over 29 year olds would feel like I do)and DVD rights, but HBO needs content for its cable network and also releases DVDs, so for them it must have been worth it. They may also get prestige at Emmy time if it is a quality production.

  22. luval says:

Oh, I will watch it too, Soccermom & rs. Like you I’m payin’ so I’m watchin’!

eta…thanks for that great Pop That Lock video, cwm! I still think that song…and not even the re-mix…the regular song, would be a radio/dance hit. And if possible they must keep in the Michael Jackson sample.

I read the post about the video of “wicked”. I have the whole show on DVD. I purchased it from someone in USA shortly after “idol”. It is filmed from the audience and in a couple of places the person filming has to hide the camera so we only get audio. So yes that is definately Adam. I have a copy if anyone would like it. They can then make copies for others as it can be dubbed. As it’s from the states it will be in your format, i presume.

I should have said in my post that the DVD I have of wicked is when Adam played the lead role of Fiyero as he was normally the understudy.

A day late I guess to the conversation, but I don’t think this is Adam. This nose isn’t as pretty as Adam’s. Of course, when I continue reading the blog and find out that it was him…oh well. That’s my thought at this time anyway. Razz

ETA: The voice sounds like Adam, but I didn’t see anyone exceptionally taller than the others as I thought Adam would appear.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1oz2q4S1ho&feature=youtu.be

ETA Excellent quality, too! This guy must be a real ninja, because security was supposedly so tight at this venue.

  33. Ceddies says:

I loved Liberace and watched his show almost every time it came on. I was about 8-10 years old and seems that it came on every day around 10-11 a.m. Yep, this is coming to “y’all” from down here in Mississippi. I also was the one screaming “no, I like it” when everyone else wanted the opera stars turned off or down when they appeared on shows like Ed Sullivan. Yep, again. I’m a 29 year old.

I would go to see a Liberace movie at the theatre, but as someone said above, I don’t believe he would want his life exposed in such a way.

  34. Ceddies says:

I don’t watch tv enough to have HBO so I would probably not get to see the Liberace movie if that’s where they put it. Frown

I’m not surprised that the Liberace movie went to HBO. It’s a “niche” film, with a limited audience. I don’t think because it’s “too gay” but because anybody who cares or remembers him is likely over 50 years old. It doesn’t hit the 18-35 age demographic.

I’m from his hometown, even here, he’s kind of a “has been”. Too OTT, too campy, too much classical music. But that’s exactly what he was. He was also good looking, witty, funny and a great conversationalist. He was the punch line to thousands of jokes. And as flamboyant as he was, he was deeply closeted.

Liberace’s museum closed in Vegas last year. No customers.

My mom’s take on Adam? “Oh, he’s like a young Liberace.”

GROAN. No mom. He’s not. I don’t think Lee could sang and floorbert. Amongst many other differences.

And our Adam is out. And proud. And respected for it.

But, it does come with a price. Which makes me very very sad.

  39. ultimathule says:

And I think it’s a big price, too, mils

ulti Going back to your question about why Adam isn’t getting radio play. Remember that more than half the stations in the US are owned by Clear Channel, an ultra right fundamentalist Christian organization; it’s formula music with little or no local input, and remember that one tweet recently that was from a fan who was told by her CC station that they weren’t allowed to play Adam.

  41. Miss Chaos says:

So Clear Channel isnt allowed to play Adam, well do they play any gay singers, or is it just Adam, this would be interesting to know!02

  42. luval says:

Hi Miss Chaos…Was wondering how little Trespass was doing. Getting into mischief maybe?

  43. ultimathule says:

So many questions, Calgary – has CC become so much more a big player since WWFM? Do they control that Z-something station in New York? Is it that Adam is such a striking, out-there, unapologetic gay that’s barred him – not necessary that he’s just gay?

Have often wondered if he were straight and dating women every five minutes, what his status in the music biz would be.

And what “formula” do they use to play the stuff they do air? Perhaps they feel he has the wrong demographic?

All so confusing and inexplicable to me.

So happy he’s doing well outside the U.S.

  44. Calgary says:

Miss Chaos Good question. The thing is, other singers we know are gay came out after they had had many hits, and how many of them are now advocates? Elton, yes. Any of the others? Adam is the only one to come out before his albums and to continue to be outspoken.Just guessing.

  45. Miss Chaos says:

    Ricky Martin?

  46. Miss Chaos says:

And ya, if he was a pot smokin, woman beater, womanizer, drunkin, super stud, male, they would play the heck out of him, Rolls Eyes Sarcasm
Look at Taylor Swift, she broke up with her latest, gets tons of publicity for it,probably a new number 1 single the whole bit Mad Razz Clap

ulti, Miss Chaos I should have learned by now. This is my 4th attempt to tell you about a really good article about Clear Channel. It is called “Big World: How Clear Channel programs America” by Jeff Charlet. If you google the title and scroll down to page two or so to a site called the revealer, it should come up as the first article on the page. I have spent so much time trying to post this that I’m not going to add any more links, but if you really want to you can find lots of comments, including one from a blogger named Jessica Richardson, and an older article in Salon.
As for Ricky Martin, he came out way after he had become a hit. Don’t know about current advocacy.
ETA – apparently the link I was trying to post obliteratd my whole post! Took me three tries to figure it out!
