That was the best part & I was excited with anticipation for the full performance. Was a slow falling let down after that.

Proud of Adam’s cudo’s for the face mapping technology, which was an amazing effect, and a believable parody to David Bowie. Yes

Poor Nile, I feel for him. That needy woman kept him late rehearsing and caused him to miss a scheduled performance with Adam. I bet this wouldn’t have happened with Adam doing the tribute.

The piano mics fell on to the piano strings, that’s what the guitar sound was. It made it sound out of tune. Shit happens. X

I can’t even recognize Gaga’s face any more. And I don’t care for any of this tech crap, does nothing for me. Bowie was so effortlessly cool, elegant, and classy. Witty and utterly charming. I miss him.

  14. cher says:

I didn’t watch the Grammys but I was watching the highlights
on ABC World News Now and they were saying the Gaga performance was one of the best things of the show. Kinda weird if you ask me. I also smiled when they said that there were sound issues and that Adele hit some rare sour notes because of that. Really? Happier now that I didn’t spend my money to buy expensive tickets to her concert just to sit near the back of the arena which were the only tickets that ticketbastard offered at open sale. I used the money to buy Bruce Springsteen tickets instead and I’m going to see him tonight. Not that I’m a fan but I wanted to see him at least once before he leaves the music scene. He hasn’t toured for years. “The Boss”, a real music legend. Smile

  18. luval says:

@NickyMarinucci: Nice tribute to Bowie from Gaga, but rather frenetic. Lacked the impact and simple elegance and class of Let’s Dance from @adamlambert

  19. luval says:

G’morning! Just read through a bit of the last few days and am excited that Adam got to collaborate with Nile on a Bowie tribute even if it wasn’t a mainstage event.

I wouldn’t worry about the vocal Glamenters, luval . A lot of fans of a lot of singers who didn’t make it to the Grammies are plainting in the same way. It’s always part of the general buzz and hum of implication surrounding the big awards shows.

Adam is Adam. He will always look at the bright side of things and his tweets at events like this are his way of engaging us. A kind of twitter party that’s not about him. Generous and sweet and hope he never changes.

  25. adamized says:

TLKC perfectly said. I am not as “big” as a person as Adam and found myself constantly saying “Adam could have done that so much better”. It is unhealthy to always be comparing every performer to my touchstone but can’t help myself. On the good side I now know who almost every current singer is whether I like them or not because of Adam. I’m the cool Aunt.

Yes, there is a bit of sour grapes mixed in with my cornflakes this morning.

I don’t get the Grammy’s personally. I’ve never seen so many people crammed into a huge space with what looked like horribly uncomfortable folding chairs. Sound issues from the very beginning and throughout. Come on folks this is supposed to be the biggest musical night of the year. Has no one heard of sound check?

To be honest I only made it about one third in and then turned it off. Sorry I missed seeing the snippet of “Hamilton” though.

I bet Niles had his reservations about this performance. I hope he was okay with how it turned out. Feel for him since he had such a personal connection with Bowie and I’m sure he wanted the best tribute possible.

ITA HKfan. Gaga is going through her 1950’s cinema bombshell stage. She showed up to the Golden Globes channelling Anita Ekberg in La Dolca Vita, right down to the black dress and the 60’s eye make-up.

Some people saw Marilyn Monroe in her presentation but European cinema is much closer to her sensibilities. She has to be a Felini freak. She’s Italian and possesses that hard darkness that etches the outlines of an Italian blonde cinema queen. She can channel them all, even Sophia Loren, if she wants to.

It would be brilliant if she decided to resuscitate NINE on Broadway, where she could play all of Fellini’s women. Maybe she is thinking about it? It would get her a Tony.

The down side is that plastic surgery is a slippery slope. She is too young to be doing too much of this. What is going on? Is she meta-channelling Michael Jackson at the same time as she channels these ladies (and relishing the idea of it) or is there an extremely fragile person behind the performance artist who feels the need to put up smoke and mirrors because, deep down inside, she thinks isn’t good enough, as herself, for all the attention she gets?

She’s brilliant but I think she may also be very, very sad and alone.

That Rayvon Owen and Shane Bitney Crone love story is so sweet. Best wishes for their happiness.

  29. TLKC says:

The periscope of Adam singing “Let’s Dance!” won’t work on my computer. If anyone gets a more video, please post!

Didn’t see Gag’s performance but it goes without saying that she is too big for this kind of tribute. She was bound to dominate the coverage.

  30. TLKC says:

Big Smile Heart adamizeds! It’s hard not to want everything for Adam. We all feel it and saying it does help. We all know why Adam doesn’t grab the mainstream imagination and it isn’t fair.

The extent to which he is overlooked by the general audience is pretty much on a par with the way the world sees women. Men make their own success; women are “helped” to it. One of the bigger moments from last night:

Swift pointed out in her speech that she is the first woman to win album of the year twice and added: “I want to say to all the young women out there – there are going to be people along the way who are going to try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.”

As far as Adam always giving praise to others, I love him for it. It’s good karma. You get what you give. Positive energy into the universe. All of that.

He plays well with others. And others want to play with him.

Loving the comments here this morning. Nice to see you guys posting here.

  32. milwlovesadam says:

I caught up with Gaga this morning whilst prepping for work, and I don’t think it was that bad. A bit frenetic, but pretty visual while the vocals held out. The audience loved it, and it is getting much buzz today.

    IMHO.

  33. glambotgram says:

mils I think she is getting lots of press because of who she is, not because it was good. She could have made it amazing but she made it about Gaga. Even the tattoo was for press.
Also Adele gets tons of excuses for her poor vocals because of who she is. IMHO

I agree with what some of you have written about Gaga being fragile or insecure. I really got that impression when Brian May was talking about her and think that is why he seems to be so protective of her.

I really wish Nile had just left her and joined Adam as planned. I bet he really wanted too.

  34. HK fan says:

I haven’t watched the Grammys, but watched the video of Gaga…I thought it started off well, the first minute or 2 was great, then it all seemed to get a bit frenetic and weird. I didn’t think it was bad….just odd.

Just curious why people think GaGa had plastic surgery. I think she looks the same. Maybe Botox. But she wears so much makeup it makes her look different. And she lost weight too. She would have to had lots of down time yet she’s seen every day.

  39. TLKC says:

Just looks like it to me, luval. I googled Gaga and plastic surgery a few minutes ago and found this article:

Not by any means proof but an educated guess.

@milestougeaux: How does a normally soulful Gaga do an entire Bowie tribute with absolutely none?

  41. riskylady says:

Love the Vogue critique, I think it’s spot on. I wish Erlich had just said to Nile, here’s 5 or 8 mins, do a Bowie tribute, knock yourself out.
But no, he’s Mr Dictator. I mean, Pitbull? Grammys reduced to AMA- or below- level. Used to be about quality over volume/money.
I personally don’t think Gaga even GOT Bowie, based on her saying he created his music to “heal people’s souls.” Huh?

This review is spot on and thoughtfully written. It covers all facets & nuances of GaGa’s tribute performance to David Bowie.

I feel sorry for Nile Rodgers, and don’t blame him at all. Too many cook’s in the kitchen, so to speak for him to bring more authenticity to the tribute.

    Love Eber’s comment! Yes
