adam-hennessey

After wrapping up January with a benefit concert in New York City, Adam will have a couple of weeks off before his international Trespassing tour kicks off on February 17th in Seoul, South Korea. This show will be followed by six concerts in Japan, taking Adam and company up through the end of the month. The tour will continue in March through the Philippines, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Jakarta, Russia and finally to Helsinki, Finland on March 22. Still no word of any additional concerts beyond March 22, so it appears unlikely at this point that we will see a full Trespassing tour here in North America.

Above we see Adam performing at the Hennessy Artistry event on January 4th (photo courtesy of adam-pictures.com).

Adam will become busy during the second half of the month with 7 shows packed into a short time period, so enjoy the chat here and on those concert threads!

OMG luval, you are right! NO MANS. Was that a line anywhere in the movie? No Man’s Land? A play on words? Adam is amazing.

Eagle Eyes luval. You are in the running with riskylady for picking out the details.

  2. milwlovesadam says:

luval, yes I saw the Freddie/Queen specials from last weekend. One of them I had seen in pieces on You Tube. The second one, from 2012, I hadn’t seen. Funny, because my brother just gifted me the Barcelona CD. I haven’t listened to it yet, but will sometime.

And, I guess my brother falls into the category of a Queen purist. He is a walking encyclopedia about Freddie and Queen. He just didn’t care for Queenbert. He did, however, like Dragon Attack and WWTLF from Kiev. So, thanks jlurks for your DVD again.

And, living in China, Shanghai most recently, he did say that Adam is very very popular and well-known over there. His students simply adore Adam, male and female alike. He does acknowledge his talent and charisma, however, he just doesn’t care for Adam. Coming from him, actually, this was a huge compliment musically.

We had a discussion about androgyny and the culture over there. Correct me if I’m wrong please, anybody who is Asian, but, he said that he doesn’t find men in Asia to be as threatened or horrified by gay, feminine men, or by androgyny, as they are here. He said that he sees young men dressed very ambiguously all the time, and it’s no big deal. He says that they “get” a lot of girls, and that girls find that attractive in the culture.

Maybe this explains a bit of Adam’s popularity in Asian countries.

Hi everyone. Thank you all for your sweet, loving support. Talk about signs. I was just thinking yesterday that maybe I was finally caught up enough and maybe finally had it in me emotionally to post here, so I decided yesterday that I would post today for sure. Then I came onto this thread this morning and saw your loving messages calling me back when I was ready. You are such wonderful people.

It’s been a hard few weeks and my heart is heavy. Sometimes I’m exhausted, physically and emotionally. I spent two weeks with my mom, supporting and taking care of her and doing the million things that have to be done, and pulling together the memorial service, which was beautiful and healing. I’m back home now and back at work for the past week, but struggling to catch up and keep up. New job is kicking my butt. I miss my dad a lot. He was an amazing man. And I worry about my mom, but now that I’m home I’m too far away to be of much help to her. But I’m grateful that we had my dad for as long as we did and that, although none of us was ready for it, he died without pain or suffering. And family, friends, co-workers, and all of you have been wonderfully supportive, and I am very grateful to be surrounded by so many caring, loving people in my life and to have such a community of support. So thank you to all of you for your kind, supportive words and loving messages.

By now I’ve been able to watch a handful of videos from the WAG shows, but I haven’t had a chance to watch the entire show yet. What I’ve seen I have loved. I love the set list and I love what they’ve done with everything – musically, visually, and the flow of energy and meaning. Stay and Underneath are so hauntingly, unbelievably beautiful and sung with such perfection and purity of emotion that they are a balm to my heavy heart and soul. Broken English is amazing and just perfect in every way. The antics during Fever and the excitement during the IIHY opening have made me smile. And I just listened to OOL for the first time today and I was struck with how healing the new arrangement is. Adam starts the song so sad and melancholy, but then transitions it to a joyful tone (almost defiant in its joy), conveying that, when we come together, we can overcome sadness and despair just by being in solidarity in our pain. Wow, that really resonates with me right now. And his beautiful, joyful face when he’s singing reggae cannot be beat.

How many times can we keep saying that Adam has never looked or sounded better? But it’s always true.

Here’s a lovely little something I found that I don’t think has been posted here yet:

I ran across some additional wonderful pics on twitter that I’ll post on the Kanazawa thread.

  10. nkd says:

Thanks AL for the article on the painting.

Brezhnev! He’s the one with the eyebrows.

    Translation of the art description

Brotherly Kiss: Part of the East Side Gallery on the Berlin Wall, this mural, 23 of the total 100, which painted by Dimitri Vrubel in 1990. It commemorates the famous kiss between Eric Honecker, the East German Central Committee Secretary, and the visiting General Secretary of the Soviet Union, Leonid Brezhnev, who met for the 30th anniversary of the German Democratic Republic. Vrubel’s caustic remark on the painting reads “Господи, помоги мне выжить среди этой смертельной любьви” or “God, help me to survive this deadly love!”

I posted some new pics on the Kanazawa thread.

Looks like Adam and his band were hanging out a local music joint in Kanazawa the other night, and they (the band at least) actually ended up doing some jamming. This is a post from someone there, perhaps the owner?

Hello cwm! Glad to see you back and enjoying a bit of Adam. The next year of anniversaries is going to be hard but Adam is a beautiful distraction from real life and I hope you are able to find as much time here as you need to heal your heart.

Thanks for the pic, AL. I am going to get print done. The best thing about “NO MANS” is how it’s angled to be a seamless part of the illustration. I bet Cabaret is one of Adam’s secret dreams, too, mils.

Ron, I’ve been thinking about you since I saw Barbra’s performance at the Oscars last night. She is so very special – just keep watching it over and over on youtube this morning. Came across this link from the Grammy’s in 1987 – hope it’s okay to post here. I was blown away by the nominees for Best Female Pop Performance; each and every nominee is a true legend. Really highlights how the “quality” of pop music has changed over the years, imo. Really love the winner’s acceptance speech, too!

  29. dcglam says:

Thanks for posting that video, Texas.
True legends, indeed!! No matter how strong the competition, Barbra has always remained in a class by herself — my husband’s favorite singer of all time. She and Adele were the only two reasons we watched the show last night and neither of them disappointed.

  30. TexasWannaHoldEm says:

Hi dc! Yes, Barbra’s performance has sent me on a trip down memory lane this morning – just can’t get enough of her right now! One other thing about the 1987 Grammy nominees that struck me was the “maturity” of most of the nominees… Dionne, Barbra, Tina – being chosen the winner from that group of nominees was truly an honor!

Ron, I’ve been thinking about you since I saw Barbra’s performance at the Oscars last night.

    Hi TexasWannaHoldEm!!

That’s so sweet of you! I was on the phone with nkd Saturday night and was asking about you.

I knew Barbra was going to be on the show but I didn’t know what she was going to do. I thought the purpose of her being there was very touching and her performance was just perfect.

So while I knew Barbra was going to be there, I was shocked when Shirley Bassey came up through the floor and belted out “Goldfinger”. During the tribute to James Bond music, I started to wonder is it possible? Is Shirley Bassey going to sing?! No, I don’t think so … and then, there she was!

Overall, I enjoyed the whole show but those were two special moments for me.

Coincidentally, at this very moment, “Funny Girl” is just starting on TCM to be followed by “The Way We Were”.

My afternoon is now booked. Smile

I hear ya! Have to admit youtube has really interfered with my “to do” list this morning. Grin

  33. TexasWannaHoldEm says:

Oops, messed-up block quote! Was replying to Ron Blush

  34. rs says:

Interesting that in 1987 the “Best Female Pop Performance” went to an album of Broadway songs. How times have changed, and not for the better. I can just hear Simon complaining that Adam (and others) were too Broadway for the show, implying that theater and pop were mutually exclusive. (I know, Simon said that Adam was too “theatrical” but I am taking liberties)

  35. AL says:

Thanks for the pic, AL. I am going to get print done. The best thing about “NO MANS” is how it’s angled to be a seamless part of the illustration.

Funny you should mention about “NO MANS” being part of the illustration. There was a famous caricaturist, Al Hirschfeld who did drawings of celebrities (Broadway) who did just that, He would include the name of his daughter Nina in each drawing – in the hair, clothing, etc. Maybe Adam knew of that or it was just coincidence.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Hirschfeld#Nina
http://mereditheagan.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/hirschfeld_carol_channing.jpg – NINA is part of her hair.

  36. dcglam says:

Haha, Texas…… I was just thinking that Barbra’s big performance last night was on the 24th as well — her favorite number. Too funny!! Big Smile

  37. TexasWannaHoldEm says:

Yes, dc – and almost 24 years since the 1987 win!
