After a very eventful past month for Adam and his fans, December has arrived. Adam enjoyed quite a bit of publicity during November, including an epic performance with Queen at the EMAs, a Rolling Stone interview, a mentoring appearance on Majors & Minors, and his return to the AMA stage (unfortunately only as a presenter this time around). Still no new music for us to enjoy with our holiday feasts, but all the signs currently point to the lead single from Adam’s new album being released in January.

Update 7 PM 12/14: as per Adam’s tweets today, “Better Than I Know Myself”, the lead single from his new album “Trespassing”, will be released on Tuesday, December 20th!

Reality TV, for all its questionable ethics, has brought real gay people into the living rooms of America; in 2009, the most popular of those shows, Simon Cowell’s American Idol, was seen as a bellwether of changing attitudes as a young gay contestant, Adam Lambert, in eyeliner and glitter, advanced to the final. Lambert’s flamboyance conflicted with the show’s notorious reluctance to field openly gay contestants: he seemed to be telling us he was gay without spelling it out (until after the finale), and the subsequent conversation in the media, and online, showed how far we had come.

    Don’t think i would watch that show On The Line again. Love Project Runway. I’ll stick with that. Adsm looked absolutely stunning, though. He filmed it very close to Ste Agathe and to me it’s exactly how he looked in person. Anybody buy the iTunes download? Was tempted but I only want Adam’s part!

    Some people on Twitter are listening to the livestream with Neil and Cam and said that Cam confirmed that the band is going to China with Adam, except for her because she has some other thing going on at that time. But she is staying with the band.

    Monte finally removed “Adam Lambert’s musical director” from his twitter profile, and given all that has gone on with BfM it’s hard to imagine that he will be going to China. TJR is indeed a guitar player who has been playing bass for Adam, so Tommy as Monte’s replacement makes sense. Not sure that Tommy is as proficient on lead guitar as Monte, but I think he can do a credible job. I always figured Isaac would be back as he seemed to embrace/enjoy his portion of the GNT (moreso than LP who always seemed anxious to resume his own agenda), and he and Tommy are buddies. I had wondered about Cam as she has her own projects, but sounds like she will be still in the band in general (although not for this gig).

    So, Ste Agathe was very likely the last time that Adam and Monte will appear onstage together.

    I wonder who Adam’s new musical director will be for the next tour? I doubt it will be Tommy. With Monte gone, Cam is probably the most qualified of the band members. Another possibility for musical director would be Zach (I forget his last name) who played keyboards at Fantasy Springs, and I believe has programmed backing tracks/vocals for other Adam gigs as well. I think Zach played in the band for the Leno Sleepwalker gig too.

    Just looking at the Top 16 to date, is there another current artist anywhere out there who can sing well in such an amazing variety of genres/styles? I don’t think so. Six songs to go – you guys probably have a pretty good idea of which ones those will be Smile

    You’re right, eywflyer – there’s no one else out there who can change from one style to another so easily – extraordinary.

    What does a “musical director” do?
    Orchestras get along without a conductor (maybe just a first violin). Pianists occasionally conduct from the keyboard. I think Adam knows exactly what he wants and, perhaps, doesn’t even need an intermediary. He obviously loves being in control. Just have to wait and see.

    But he’d better get a sound man who doesn’t mind colorful language.

    jlurk, as I understand it, the musical director is responsible for coordinating things like programmed backing music (with just a four piece band not all of the music we hear comes from the live stage instruments), backing vocals, song transitions, instrumentals/solos (like the interlude before SFW), etc. I have no doubt that Adam knows what he wants to hear, but I think with all of the other things he has going on before/during a tour, Adam just doesn’t have time to be his own musical director too. I’m sure he will have plenty of input for whoever the musical director is lol.

    If the single drops this month, we may break the site records for thread comments and total pageviews that were just set last month!

    I agree that there is no way Adam can be his own musical director. I suspect it’s going to be the new guitarist coming in to replace Monte.

    I still feel so sad about the Adam/Monte situation. I wonder now if in Ste Agathe Monte knew all along the s**t was coming down the pipe, knew the ramifications but still did the gig for the bucks.

    Morning! My feelings about Monte and the role he played in BFM debacle are truely mixed. Just unfollowed him on Twitter this morning since I wasn’t opening any of his tweets anymore. I hope that he and Adam are able at some point to be friends again (presuming they have come to a parting of the ways currently) and get beyond the decisions each of them made over the past several months. It is a shame that the folks who rolled out BFM took the low road. What a waste.

    Ok, moving forward…we hopefully only have a week left before BTIKM finally explodes. So happy that Cam is staying with the band. It will be interesting to see how good TJ is at lead guitar. Rubbing hands together with great expectations.

    eywflyer really enjoying the top 16 countdown. Can you believe I had never listened to the studio version of Feeling Good. Loved it! Thank you again for this sight and keeping us busy.

    Couldn’t be happier Adam’s GNT DVD sold so well! Knowing it placed 12th sounds great but how does that translate to the number of units sold? My curiosity lead me to this:

    Adam’s Glam Nation Live was a big seller from the beginning. It debuted at #1 on SoundScan’s “Top Music Videos” chart, selling 17,000 units in its first week. Because it was registered as a DVD release, 50,000 units must be sold to obtain RIAA gold certification. Although not there yet, it is close, with sales of almost 44,000 units at the end of November, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

    Not too shabby! Wink

    luval? I’ll buy 1 if you purchase the remaining 5,999 copies needed for gold certification. Grin

    Been thinking about Monte and Adam performing together for the last time at Ste Agathe, which is almost certainly the case. On that stage, on that evening, the love and connection among the two guitarists and Adam was palpable even in the audience. Drummers came and went, keyboardist changed, but those three WERE the Glam Nation from beginning to end and Ste Agathe was a celebration of that and the final coda to the GN.

    IMO, Monte made some terrible decisions, but (as others have pointed out) he has to feed his family. He isn’t on retainer for the next Adam tour, and as far as I know he doesn’t have a regular gig during down time. Man is between a rock and a hard place, and I can’t judge him (but I do judge the record company that held out the 30 pieces of silver to him).
    For both Monte and Adam (and the rest of the band), I am sad for the friendship that was lost, and wish everyone the best in the future. Rose

    I agree that the situation between Adam and Monte is sad. I’m disappointed in Monte and the bad decisions he made. I hold the most disdain for Welsford and co., who couldn’t see their way to take the high road and release the music ethically.
