As July ends the “Trespassing” touring era now seems to be over with the last show at Paso Robles. But work continues as Adam is to be part of the Glee cast and also is guesting on Avicii’s new single “Lay Me Down”. It may be quiet on the touring front but there are always surprises. When it comes to Adam, expect the unexpected! Photo from Alikat1323 Smugmug.

Not a real Lennox fan – have some of her music – but have always found this performance sorta creepy – looked like Bowie wanted to get outta there.

Re-watched some of the VMA performances. Diff on tv than in the crowd obviously. @ladygaga’s intro was pretty iconic. Very Liza with a G

    And he is off again……

This is one of many reasons why we love him so. He’s a throwback. He knows “Liza with a Z.”

  6. ultimathule says:

What’s “Liza with a G”? Is this anything to create another brouhaha?

    Adam Lambert ‏@adamlambert 1m
@raspherries only when u complain. Lol

    He must be bored Wink

  8. ultimathule says:

Yes, remember that, mils – hope this “G” interjection goes over OK.

  9. ultimathule says:

What’s with the new blue connection lines on twitter? Anyone know what’s going on?

  10. milwlovesadam says:

Well, I do believe the intention was to honor Gaga with an homage to Liza.

People just need to know their history of music. So many don’t. Just saying. ( Sheesh, I don’t know everything either, but, you’ve got a pretty obvious tweet here, for older fans. Young ones will have no idea what Adam was referring to. IMHO)

  13. aely says:

I have no idea what he is referring to with the G. Care to share? In my world Liza has always been a joke.

  15. ultimathule says:

Sorta agree, aely – not sure if it’s a compliment or not.

Liza Minelli starred in a TV special directed by Bob Fosse right after they did the film Cabaret. It was called “Liza with a Z.” The show won numerous Emmy’s.

Liza Minelli is one of only a select few who have won The Oscar, Tony, Emmy and Grammy Awards.

To each his own, but, Adam was complimenting Gaga. In a big gay way. Wink

  20. milwlovesadam says:

Disclosure: I was in elementary school when that was on TV. But, I do remember it. The show was re-broadcast on PBS a couple of years ago, and it lives quite happily in my DVR.

    It is simply iconic.

  21. Ron says:

    Hi,

I’ll suggest that Adam’s reference to LadyGaGa, followed with “very Liza With A G”, that the G might stand for GaGa. If he’d put quotation marks around the letter G, I’d be sure that that’s what he meant but now I’m only guessing.

Liza may be looked upon as a joke today but …

winning a total of three Tony Awards awards, including a Special Tony Award and also an Oscar, an Emmy Award, two Golden Globes and a Grammy Legend Award

adds up to one talented lady. Star

  22. milwlovesadam says:

Yup, Ron, I neglected to say that the G was for Gaga. Razz

    Did ya like my number I posted? It’s just so…Liza. ( With a Z )

    Classic, mils!

There was nothing like the opening though of “Liza With A Z” for me:

  24. aely says:

Thanks!! I never said or meant she isn’t talented and do know she is very celebrated and has many awards but, no one I knew, me included, ever listened to her and she was always the butt of jokes. I never took her seriously at all. Now I can appreciate her but that is about it.

  25. ultimathule says:

Well, mils and ron – very energetic and lively performance – but not my cuppa. Makes the world go round, I guess. Loved the movie Cabaret though – Liza was very good, and Joel Grey was magnificent.

I loved Liza and Joel Grey in Cabaret!. A couple of years ago I saw him in a Broadway revival of Anything Goes (originally produced in 1934 with all songs by Cole Porter!). I really only knew him from Cabaret, so it was a shock to see him playing the part of the old man! He was very good, though and the whole show was delightful.

  34. ultimathule says:

That is one interesting article, aely – will definitely read it. Thanks.

  35. rs says:

Thank you aely for that excellent article.
I could quote here everything they said about Adam (the whole article is worth reading) but I will just bring over this especially true bit

Adam Lambert was also actually in attendance at the 2013 VMAs in which he presented an “Artist To Watch” award to Austin Mahone for nothing more than having released his a mediocre song and video for “What About Love”. Meanwhile the LGBT equality show is going on in full effect at the VMAs with Adam Lambert not partaking. Instead MTV is crowning Macklemore with high praise for “Same Love” – bringing a straight rapper, a lesbian and a straight R&B superstar ally in way of Jennifer Hudson to perform the track to the world on international television. Everyone really, except a gay male artist was present during this LGBT equality show. But I guarantee you this, if Adam Lambert would have joined Macklemore, Lewis, Mary Lambert and Jennifer Hudson during their performance of “Same Love”, the result would have had a much bigger impact

  36. HK fan says:

    Great article aely, interesting read.

I don’t think I have seen that performances of OOL before, definately brought a lump to my throat, beautiful. Where’s it from??

The VMA’s was the first time I’d heard the Macklemore song, didn’t like it or the performance…..sorry, just don’t like rap.

  37. nkd says:

Interesting about Island Records. They also followed him back. A label for Adam, or simply because he’s on one of their artist’s albums? Or both?!!

WOW about the Rolling Stone playlist ranking for LMD!

Okay, if someone were throwing around 2 million dollars, I honestly couldn’t blame him though

    aely, maybe you should apply!
I can just see you on the panel!

  38. ultimathule says:

That paragraph, rs, just breaks my heart – seeing Adam’s standing there handing out an award for such second-rate pap – knowing how much acclaim he deserves for his great music.

Where I disagree with the author is when he conflates both Adam and Ocean as trailblazers – don’t think the comparison is correct – Adam came out years before Ocean when acceptance was much more difficult, and Ocean never suffered any backlash from his one statement – he never even said he was gay.

Reading what I/we already suspect is just so dispiriting.

  39. ultimathule says:

Should get my RS tomorrow – that should make me feel really good.

  40. milwlovesadam says:

That article was eloquent. Can somebody send it out to Adam?

It looks like I need to be on Facebook to comment. Can’t.

Who from here wants to comment? That author needs to have some Glam love.

  41. milwlovesadam says:

    Agree about Frank Ocean ultimat.

Can’t wait for my RS either.

HKFan I believe that OOL was from the radio promo tour
    Feb 2012 Stockholm Sweden

I stand corrected, thats what I get for trying to guess with all the experts around here.

  43. glambotgram says:

Love the article from HQ Music aely Thanks for posting.

I wanted to add my 2 cents and say I too believe Liza with a G was definitely a compliment and G was for Gaga.

  44. nkd says:

I believe that the OOL was from the showcase in London in 2012. ChartShow TV filmed it.

  45. luval says:

I’ll add my 5 cents Smile. Yup, I think Liza with a G (gaga) was a wonderful compliment. For the record in case I didn’t mention it…I loved Gaga’s performance the other night!

  46. Kiwi says:

I thought that OOL was from the London Showcase??? I could well be wrong but it’s always been my favourite version along with Ste Agathe

  47. glambotgram says:

luval I’ll see your 5 and raise you 10. Laugh

  48. nkd says:

I also think that Liza with a G was a compliment, implying that the performance had a very Liza-esque feel to it. The G being for Gaga.
My cents seem to be worthless, so I won’t offer any! Wink

Has this been posted? Love this. My sons are huge blues fans, and I learned so much from them, and discovered that what I love in music is really at heart the blues.

Listening now to Sweet Tea. I’ve seen Buddy Guy several times, he’s a living legend. He plays my city fairly often ( close to Chicago, you know ).
