Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing Adam perform live this spring but at least we have plenty of great music and silly video chats to keep us going for now. The wait is over for Adam Lambert fans.
After 5 years, it launches the new record, the 4th of the solo career, titled “Velvet”, under the aegis of More Is More and Empire and featuring producers such as Tommy English, Joe Janiak, Steve Booker, Josh Cumbee, Butch Walker or Fred Ball.
The executive producer of the project is Adam Lambert.
The album comprises 13 tracks and “came to light” on March 20, being available on all music platforms.
Prior to the album, Adam also presented the video of the eponymous piece, which illustrates it in the tailor’s hipster pose of the ’70s.
“Velvet” is the “gateway” to the new era, introduced in a different, nostalgic style, reminiscent of the “golden years” of music and artists like Prince, George Michael, David Bowie or Boy George.
“Superpower” was the first official single from Part A (and of which I wrote more here), a song with seventy disco-funk influences and a colorful clip, filmed last year in Brooklyn, New York.
“Stranger You Are” appeared with “Velvet: Side A” and includes many rock elements, but also trumpets, outlining what might be called “the anthem of the different”.
He had a very positive feedback from the media, but also on social media platforms, becoming the song that opened the concerts that Adam held in the US at the end of last year.
“Loverboy” is funky, sensual and brings Prince, according to numerous reviews that have been published (and which place it in the top 3 favorite tracks on the EP).
“Roses” is the only collaboration of the album (about which I wrote here), a funk piece bearing the signature of Nile Rodgers, along with whom Adam has also worked on songs such as “Shady” (2012 – “Trespassing”) or “Lay Me Down ”(2013 – released by AVICII as part of the album“ True ”).
“Closer To You” is definitely the ballad of the album, being part of “Velvet: Side A”, EP released last autumn.
The piano is the element that gives it sensitivity, focusing on the voice and lyrics.
“Overglow” is the piece that best describes the influences of the 80s, being one of the most popular. Like the previous one, it was released with the first part of the record material.
“Comin In Hot” was presented in June 2019 (when I wrote more here) with the video clip below, continuing the “Velvet” series initiated by “New Eyes”. The song is dominated by strong bass, illustrating the glam rock era.
“On The Moon” is, after “Velvet” the second totally unknown song until the album’s release.
Mysterious, sensual, atmospheric. It is somewhat reminiscent of “Broken English” or “Nirvana”, both from the album “Trespassing” (2012), or from “Voodoo” (album “For Your Entertainment” – 2009).
“Love Don’t” is, according to Adam, the most difficult piece in terms of interpretation. He mentioned that he would like to perform live with the Queen.
There are rock influences from the 70s, “decorated” with high notes, characteristic of the impressive vocal record of the American artist.
“Ready To Run” concludes “Velvet: Side A”, being considered by some to be the most rocked track in the EP.
“New Eyes”, a single released almost a year ago, simultaneously with its video, was the one that introduced us visually into the new era of Adam Lambert’s music career (more here).
We discover a new look of the artist, as the influences of the 70’s (Prince, David Bowie).
“Feel Something” was the first piece from the album that Adam shared in February 2019, along with a cover letter (details here).
The song is a very special one, from its title and the foundation that Adam set up with the new musical project.
Unfortunately, both the promotion period of the album and most of the recently announced events suffered because of the current medical context.
The album “Velvet” was presented to the press in a promotional miniature that Adam conducted last year in Germany, the United Kingdom and Australia (details here) and in the United States, respectively.
