    So, exactly 3 months after the fact, here is my recap of Edmonton:

    We drive 3 hours to Edmonton. Every few miles there is a road sign with a crown on it. The highway is called the Queen E II, for Queen Elizabeth (Canada is a Commonwealth country), but it seems appropriate. We have lunch at Burger King so we can take pictures wearing crowns. We get to the venue early, buy t-shirts and change into them. Our seats are high. We didn’t realize the second tier of the new arena was the nosebleeds. It matters not. We are there in person! Adam is stupendous, staggeringly so. His huge voice fills the arena and threatens to blow off the roof. And his confidence is noticeably on another level. After Adam’s speech, my husband says, “how can you not like this guy?”

    The band is so tight. We all agree they are even better than the last tour. No longer are they a band with a guest singer. They have become a bona fide band in their own right, a separate and complete entity. Their joy in each other is obvious. It’s a love fest on stage. I don’t know if you caught this on the stream, but when Adam asks Bri if he takes requests, Brian says, “Happy Birthday? ‘Cause I got my gift.” Awww.

    Time stands still for 2 1/2 hours. We scoop gold confetti off the ground as we leave the venue. We walk around the back of the building and come to a garage opening. Inside 3 black town cars are parked. I realize instantly they will be used to transport the guys. TO BE CONTINUED. . .

    Deciding to wait is a no-brainer. There are a handful of others, clutching LPs and other objects, who have the same idea. The security guards tells us to move along, that nobody will be stopping or signing. No one in the crowd budges. The guard makes us move to the other side of the opening, where we cannot see the cars.

    After an hour, 1 car exits, then another. We cannot see who is in them. 15 minutes later, the 3rd car appears. The passenger window goes down. It’s Brian! He gives a thumbs up. People yell “Brian, will you sign?” The car turns out of the driveway. Then it STOPS and HE GETS OUT!!! We are out of our minds with disbelief. The ever-fascinating Brian May has become a hero to our family since the last tour. And now he is standing right in front of us. It is surreal.

    He is resplendent. There is an aura about him. He is so gracious and humble. A man says, “you are the best guitarist in the world.” He says, “well, I don’t think so.” He signs and poses for everyone. My one son offers the liner of my Queen II CD for him to sign. My other son has the presence of mind to say, “Dr. May, would you please take a picture with my mom? She’s a big fan.” “Your mum! he exclaims. “She can’t be your mum, impossible!” By now his arm is around my shoulder. He looks me in the eye and says, “you look like you’re 15.” (I’m 52, Dr. Charming!) With that he moves on. I was granted that one perfect moment. He says God Bless to the assembled crowd several times, gets in the vehicle, and is off.

    The photo of us is poorly exposed. There is a light behind Bri’s head. “That’s his halo” my son points out.
